Are Clairvoyants And Mediums The Same Thing?

The terms “clairvoyants” and “mediums” are often misunderstood, but they are not the same thing. While psychics, mediums, and clairvoyants are all gifted with spiritual abilities, they have significant differences in their services and techniques. Mediums, on the other hand, focus on finding peace, clarity, and connection through their psychic abilities.

Clairvoyants use psychic abilities to see spirit and visions instilled by the spirit world, while mediums claim to be conduits for supernatural entities. The Parapsychological Association defines “clairvoyance” as information derived directly from an external physical source. Mediums and clairvoyants are both types of psychics, but they differ in their services and techniques.

Psychics can predict the future, while mediums communicate with spirits (as a medium between dimensions), and clairvoyants just see things. The distinction between a psychic and a medium is important because they are connected in their ability to provide guidance and connect with others.

In summary, psychics, mediums, and clairvoyants are all gifted with spiritual abilities, but they have distinct skills and abilities. Mediums and clairvoyants are known for their ability to visualize present events and connect past and present to predict the future. Understanding the difference between these three types of spiritual guides is crucial for seeking guidance and understanding the unique challenges they face in their respective fields.

What types of clairvoyance are there?

Clairvoyance is a paranormal ability to see distant people and events, divided into three classes: precognition, retrocognition, and remote viewing. It has been claimed in various cultures throughout history, with stories of individuals seeing distant objects common in pagan religions. Clairvoyance is often used in prophecy, particularly when future events are predicted. This ability has been attributed to a higher power rather than the person performing it, and has been a part of various religions, particularly in pagan oracles.

What is the difference between a medium and a spiritualist?

A medium in occultism is a person who can contact the world of spirits, often in a trance state. They are the central figure during a séance, often requiring an invisible go-between. Disembodied voices are said to speak, either directly or through the medium. The materialization of a disembodied spirit or part of a human body can take shape from a mysterious, viscous substance called ectoplasm, which exudes from the medium’s body and returns to its original source. Sometimes, the medium or material object appears to float in the air.

What is considered the medium?

A medium is defined as the materials utilized to create a work of art, which is often referred to as the “media.” The most commonly used media include oil paints, tempera, marble, and bronze. These are employed to hold pigments together, create soft white stones, and cast sculptures.

What is a medium magic?

The prevalence of magic can be conceptualized as a spectrum, with some scholars categorizing worlds that exhibit a combination of high and low magical practices as “medium magic.” The majority of settings can be situated somewhere on this spectrum, rather than at its extremes.

What does it mean if someone is clairvoyant?

Clairvoyant is an adjective meaning “clear-seeing” or “knowing beyond the range of ordinary perception”. It originated in French and became a firmly established term in English in the 19th century. Today, it is most often applied to someone with ESP, an unexplainable ability to know or perceive things that others cannot. The term is also used as a noun for a person with this ability.

Clairvoyant sleuths, such as Crystal Palace (Kassius Nelson), help other spirits with cases that have gone as cold as their bodies underground. They have been featured in various media, such as Live From the Other Side with Tyler Henry, Live From the Other Side with Tyler Henry, and the family seeking religious counsel from clairvoyants who claimed that more than 200 demons controlled their Carolina Street home. The fill-in for the clairvoyant’s former classmate was the clairvoyant’s former classmate.

In summary, clairvoyant refers to the ability to see beyond ordinary perception and is often used in the context of ESP. Clairvoyant sleuths have been featured in various media, such as Netflix’s Live From the Other Side with Tyler Henry and the family’s search for religious advice from clairvoyants.

What are the abilities of a medium?

Spiritism and Spiritualism involve mediums acting as intermediaries between the living world and the spirit world. Mediums can listen to and relay messages from spirits, or allow spirits to control their bodies and speak through them. Mediumship can be classified into two main types: mental and physical. Mental mediums tune into the spirit world through listening, sensing, or seeing spirits or symbols, while physical mediums produce materialization of spirits, objects, and effects like knocking, rapping, and bell-ringing using ectoplasm created from their bodies and séance attendees.

Is spiritualism a branch of Christianity?

Spiritualism, a form of Christian spirituality, has roots in early Christianity and has evolved into an additional form, such as the First Spiritual Temple in the US and the Greater World Christian Spiritualist League in the UK. The UK’s leading pioneer, medium and Reverend William Stainton Moses, was a member of the British National Association of Spiritualists and launched the London Spiritualist Alliance, later becoming the College of Psychic Studies.

Contemporary Christian Spiritualist denominations include those within the American Spiritual Church Movement, such as the Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of Christ, Pentecostal Spiritual Assemblies of Christ Worldwide, and Universal Hagar’s Spiritual Church. These denominations aim to promote spiritual growth and understanding, fostering a sense of community and spirituality.

What is a medium?

What is a medium?

Mental mediums possess a range of psychic abilities, including clairvoyance, which involves seeing spirits and visions instilled by the spirit world. Clairvoyance is the ability to see anything not physically present, such as objects, animals, or people, occurring “in the mind’s eye”. Some mediums claim this is their normal vision state, while others train their minds with practices like meditation and seek spiritual helpers.

Clairaudience is the ability to hear the voices or thoughts of spirits, with some mediums hearing as though they are listening to a person talking to them on the outside of their head. Clairsentience is the ability to have an impression of what a spirit wants to communicate or to feel sensations instilled by a spirit. Clairsentinence is a condition in which the medium takes on the ailments of a spirit, feeling the same physical problem as the spirit person had before death.

Clairalience is the ability to smell a spirit, such as a person smoking during life. Clairgustance is the ability to receive taste impressions from a spirit, and claircognizance is the ability to know something without receiving it through normal or psychic senses.

Spiritualists believe that phenomena produced by mediums, both mental and physical, are the result of external spirit agencies. Psychological researchers like Thomson Jay Hudson and Théodore Flournoy have suggested that all kinds of mediumship could be explained by suggestion and telepathy from the medium, but this idea has been merged into the “super-ESP” hypothesis of mediumship, which is currently advocated by some parapsychologists.

What are the powers of a medium?

What are the powers of a medium?

Mediumship is a form of clairvoyance where individuals communicate with spirits and those who have passed on. It can occur during a trance-like state and can be a form of psychic powers, premonitions, and other extrasensory experiences. These powers can range from telepathy to clairvoyance, communicating with higher entities, and receiving messages from the universe. Psychic powers are deeply connected to perception and intuition, and can manifest in various forms, depending on an individual’s energy and perceptive strengths. They can manifest in various forms, such as telepathy, clairvoyance, aura reading, and other powers and perceptions.

Understanding psychic powers and how they work is crucial for making a decision about whether to pursue this path. We are all on a spectrum when it comes to our powers, and it is up to us to nurture them and make the right choice for our lives. By expanding our sensory connection beyond the physicalities of this world, we can better understand and harness the power of psychic powers.

  • I made this one back in December 2021. It is by far the most ambitious article I have made and probably the best in terms of analytical details. I never got around to uploading it. Instead, I kept adding more and more details. Now, I think the work is done. It is my promise that the article is worth your while. You are welcome to share it. I hope you enjoy.

  • Our brother Nicholas, the youngest of my parents’ seven children, was murdered by an unknown assailant at age 21. With the investigation at a standstill, and after my parents spent over $100,000 on private investigators, my two older brothers embarked on a crusade to find who took our Nick from of us. In their desperation, they sought out psychics and mediums, including a not-yet-nationally-known Caputo. The private reading, held at the home of our oldest brother’s colleague, was suspicious from the start. A list of attendees was required and no last-minute additions were allowed. About an hour before the reading, everyone was asked to leave the house so Caputo’s assistants could “cleanse the room of negative spirits” or some such nonsense. After a humor-laced opening, the reading gradually changed tone, culminating in sheer chaos when my brother Eric called out Caputo’s BS and a shouting match ensued. She demanded Eric leave the reading, but we refused to honor her demands. She spewed some obscenities, insulted the hosts, gathered her belongings and abruptly left. She’s a control freak and a narcissist like I’ve rarely seen. I’m an educated man with a strong intuitive nature. While I’m convinced Caputo is a fraud, I don’t think she’s a heartless monster — not a grief vampire like Sylvia Browne or James Van Praagh — just misguided. Our family ultimately sought the services of professional grief counselors, who taught six heartbroken siblings and two devastated parents how to cope with the loss of our spikey-haired mischief-maker.

  • Brilliant analysis and expose. What a con and what a dreadful thing to do to deeply hurt and grieving people. Theresa, to me, comes across as very aggressive but I see now why thanks to your explanation. This manipulation is really cruel. Breaking her reading down as you have done so well really clarifies how false the whole thing is.

  • I saw Theresa in person last week. It was underwhelming, to say the least. A lot of people said no to her questions and she would say “okay I’m sensing someone in this area has a watch or ring from the deceased”. And then turn it into a necklace. My wife was really excited for the show and was also disappointed. She only “read” a couple people in the very front rows, and it was over. She kept saying “how would i know that”? OVER AND OVER. But at the intro Theresa said “if you don’t believe, I don’t give a shit”! She repeats herself word for word in this article and in the live show! She said the same thing about someone’s mother not wanting them to take their last breath to someone at the show and the woman looked confused. You want to believe in something but the world is full of crooks and deceivers.

  • I feel so much RAGE towards people like this woman giving people false hope and fake comfort. In my opinion that’s the worst betrayal there could be in life, some heartless person trying to profit from the most devastating experience we will ever face in life. I swear there were times I wanted to punch my screen when I saw this woman face appear.

  • ” In my opinion the only thing as bad as grieving the loss of someone close to us is false hope.Providing people with false hope has been a profitable industry through out human history .Even though people word sounds good and gives us peace they are not necessarily true. The Truth doesn’t care about how we feel or what we want to be.If we are not bite by Truth we are easily deceiving by lies.” Martin DeCoder

  • i loved this article. thank you. on a personal note: toward the end of the article ( 27:56 ) there is a photo of a pond; i have been an aquatic gardener since 1989. i wanted to reach into this photo, clean all the algae, and fill that pond w a rainbow of waterlilies. thanks for the reminder that at 66 years old i still love what i do.

  • Great analysis of a very interesting type of conversation! The manipulative and slightly aggressive tone that these mediums use towards their clients always made me distrust them. (Along with the vague generic statements and the fishing for cues, of course) So very interesting to now learn the linguistic patterns behind this deceit! What I take from this analysis is that being a successful medium sure does take a lot of skill – just a different one than they want us to believe 😉

  • I agree there’s some dodgy devious frauds out there. But I had a very interesting experience with a medium in my 30s that to this day I still can’t explain. I walked in off the street to see him, so he had no chance to find out anything about me. Everything he said was spot on and three things were particularly amazing. I had just had operation on my left breast. He said he didn’t mean to be personal but said I had a problem with my left breast, he then touched his throat and said I would find out I had a problem here. A year later I discovered I had thyroid disease. He then went extremely pale and looked devastated and nearly cried. He kept repeating ‘tears at 42, tears at 42’. Years later my best friend died on the morning of my 42nd birthday. He also said who’s Arthur? He’s with you all the time. Arthur was my grandad who died when I was 18. And finally he said there’s a Mar …something not Marie …a name like it …on your mum’s mum’s side. You are so like her in spirit. My mum’s mum’s sister was my auntie Marjie who I loved dearly and everyone said I was very like her in character. Weird.

  • “I see a man, or a women, or a friend, maybe someone from your work . . . and I’m getting the colour ‘blue’, like a blue dress or jumper or maybe a blue sky, did anyone at work ever say “blue sky thinking” or did a loved one, possibly a parent, have blue eyes or have you ever had the ‘blues’, like a deep sadness, a sadness you couldn’t seem to shake, like a milkshake, do you know anyone, ever, from anywhere in the world, at any point in human history who liked or drank or mentioned a milkshake ?”

  • I need a person to go to Teresa with a completely fake, made up person AND SEE if she says that completely made up person is talking thru her. Play along with it and then at the end they can hammer her ass with “you’re full of sh!t, that person doesn’t exist” AND PUT IT ON TV. It really is that simple to prove that she’s a liar.

  • I was fixating on her hairdo, and how it plays into the act. Whether it helps her become a character, or distract the customer… but it also occured to me that it would serve to perfectly conceal an earpiece. Even without an earpiece, I believe that there’s likely an element of “hot reading” mixed into this session. If Jackie is a producer of Theresa’s show, it isn’t too much of a reach to suspect that Theresa might have access to her company computer, email, telephone, or work area (including desk, adorned with photographs of friends and family). Might Theresa have once overheard that story about the blizzard? Might they share mutual friends at work? Might Theresa be inclined to study the social media of acquaintances? Might there even be an “I.O.U.” sticky note in the background of one of Jackie’s photographs online? Would it be unheard of to imagine that someone else with a vested interest in Theresa might look at a Facebook page and feed bits of information to her to help reinforce an otherwise generic performance of cold-reading? Or would a professional medium NOT resort to any such trickery or research, even if it were readily available, purely out of principle? To me, a psychic medium with that hairdo is like a stage magician wearing a 19th century buffalo coat. 🤷‍♂️

  • I would like an opportunity to interact with this fraud in the same way I trap fake phishing accounts online…To draw them into their deception methods with nothing but lies and made-up family members, and then humiliate and destroy their scam. I find this particular grift repulsive for how they exploit people that want to believe they can connect with a diseased loved one. I’m glad you completed this piece.

  • You know for me I think it’s really telling what kind of person you are whether you tend to immediately buy into “mediums” like this woman, or have a healthy dose of skepticism. And I think it speaks to whether your more likely to be a realist or idealist. And I feel like an idealist would leave the type of comment either fully believing in this lady’s abilities, or implying it doesn’t matter if she’s making it all up because it makes the person happy regardless. And sure leaving someone happy is great, but it completely disregards the very real fact that the entire conversation was built on lies. That the subject was lied to repeatedly and manipulated. And at the gain of the alleged medium. (I assume in most cases financially.) Maybe it’s the realist in me, but it’s always amazed at how people can completely ignore an entire interaction and only focus on the ending or outcome. I find it bizarre. Anyway thanks for this fantastic analysis. 👌

  • These people have mad a fortune doing this. Big money here! Excellent synopsis of these people. I had a friend and when her husband died she was so distraught. She was calling these online psychics she was spending $250 a month. Next thing you know it’s up to $1000 and it kept going up and up and up sad very tragic.

  • This website (together with Jordan Peterson’s) is the most interesting and useful to follow on this platform. I just love it. It is so much more reliable and “right on the spot” than the usual “body languages” readings that are out there as well . I noticed that there are some lectures in danish, it would be so fascinating to watch some in english as well … If I can make a humble wish. Thank You for all the amazing analysis you’re doing. I get so stucked to them every time, and I am almost dissapointed when the article finish❣⚘

  • My brother ran away to deal with his issues. For whatever reason he did not communicate with the family. He was reported missing to the police to no avail. My mother, frantic with worry agreed to consult a medium. This charlatan put in my mother’s head images of her son covered in blood dead in the snow. Bulletins had been circulated country wide and he was eventually found, safe and sound, and admonished to contact his family. I curse that medium and her ilk. They are mostly harmless, but can be put in positions to do real damage. All of them should be exposed for the frauds or fools that they are.

  • Now that you have brought this to light, she is not that good at her profession now is she. Hopefully she is not still doing this, good grief. ” How would I know that about you” pretty pathetic really, as she manipulates her for a positive response. Thank you Martin, good stuff. PS get your money back people.

  • Hi Martin, I believe some people are intuitive. I am. But have to admit, I never understood communicating with people who have passed. I have never connected with Theresa, she is too over bearing. Intimidating even… John Edward, on the other hand, I watched & enjoyed his show. There were too many times when he said things that would only apply to that person. So…. I sit here wanting to go thru his shows ( I taped them) to see how often he used the techniques you describe. I trust your work. Thanks Marty.

  • i really enjoyed perusal this. I stopped viewing vids on your website for a while because there isn’t anything on this planet i could be LESS interested in than Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, and it seemed that was the only topic on my YT criminal psychology feed for ages. Im glad that topic appears to have run its course and we’re back to the Good Stuff.

  • Thanks Martin, you give the scientific break down of what I instinctively felt from my fuzzy reasoning. I’m sure most mediums are predators but I think a few have convinced themselves that what they do is directed in some mystical way. This then gives them a status of being ‘gifted’ people. Sad in a way because being able to help people, with a gift to connect with others and help them attain peace from understanding themselves and work through their troubles,is a gift when used honestly. If you want to help others to know themselves, the would be healer must honestly know themselves. In the case of the bereaved,we all have to come to terms with our existence and with that existence as we know it and coming to an end. I suppose the purely predatory kind of medium, does know what they are doing, people who approach them for help, they consider them suckers to be used. I would say that the, “fortune teller” is a close cousin of the medium. In both ‘professions,’ they have followers because people desperately want them to have the ability they boast of. All kind of people get taken in by mediums, very smart people can be vulnerable too because the medium is manipulating on bruised emotions

  • Mediums all use the same formula, I did a public talk some years ago about how they go about it. Reading the tarot is different because you’re reading what each card means and getting prompts from the mark will keep the * psychic* on a path that’s relatable to the client. The evening I gave the lecture on mediumship I had actually pulled a couple of people out of the audience and they were fascinated by the accuracy of some of the thing’s I was telling them. (Cold reading) They were astounded when I explained how it was done. Hopefully that night I saved people hundreds of dollars they would have spent in the future.

  • I’m so pleased I found you and subscribed a while ago Martin, as I have only just been alerted to this superb analysis. I found the subject truly fascinating as I have visited a few mediums myself in the past through dreadful grief and on occasions I have to admit i was convinced on certain points but after listening to your brilliant analysis it is now obvious it was more a case of me convincing myself there was some truth in it. I have to say I strongly disagree with Jackie’s summery that the peace given by a medium means more than whether it is the truth, though of course I respect that is her prerogative and personal to her. To me it is quite simply a scam, a very clever way of making money through someone’s grief which i find particularly distasteful and unforgivable. So, thank you again Martin for all your hard work, it’s so appreciated. 🇬🇧

  • Thank you Martin for explaining how Teresa is a fraud. I felt it, but you confirmed the whys. I haven’t watched her for over 6 years. Recently I started perusal YouTube series where psychics were used to solve murder mysteries. They weren’t paid and they did solve many crimes. I was wondering what your thoughts are about those individuals.

  • Right off the bat very interesting to me, and made me think that we have come full circle from the time the village or tribe gathered round a fire and shared the stories or myths of their people, through the age of reason and Science right back to gathering around the proverbial campfire,( phones, social media hubs ) to tell our stories as if they’re concrete fact and cementing them into “historical” fact, even history means ” the telling of a story “

  • It’s disgusting that “psychic people” take advantage of people’s grief. I went to a John Edward’s “show” 20 years ago…..because my dad said that if he can contact me after he dies, he will! Let’s just say…..John Edwards couldn’t pinpoint anything about my dad. He had an unusual name n passed away in an unusual way. John’s people pointed him away from me when his bull didn’t work. N the excuse was that i wasn’t accepting of what was being said to me from a place i can’t understand…..I call bullcr#*!

  • Not sure why you made this article, but regardless, I’m glad you did for anyone who has an interest in these scammers. I once was able to tell my school mate so many things about his life that were personal and he was shocked, and I don’t even know how I knew these things, but I was just going with my intuition. It was so easy! lol

  • I like your articles and the watched several of them and learned quite a bit. I especially like the way you editorialize in silence. With your eyes or a certain expression.. This one was very interesting to me because this medium is playing a game. You seem interested in it because you seem to be able to pull it apart. You can pull it apart because this is not how this is done. I am seventy three years old and i’ve been doing this since I was about seventeen. So I will cut to the Chase and tell you how much done. And for what reason in the end?…… Someone is directed to me by somebody else. I sit down with them, I asked no questions at all, I take their hand and close my eyes and drop my ego. I see what is required for that person as a piece of film or perhaps I am them at that certain time in their life. I tell them exactly what I see and feel and what is happening. I ask no questions. It only takes a few minutes. I know when to let go of your hand. Most of the time they are in tears afterwards. Because they have solved something that releases them from de prison that has bound them to their stage in life.. It can take as little as thirty seconds. I can explain to you the exchange that can happen within 30 seconds. That requires no language or questions, but contains the truth that they need. And then I get up and leave. And they usually drift over to their friends who introduced us. I am not solving there problems, They are solving their problems. I’ve never charged money for it.

  • Martin, Thank you so very much for creating your articles for us on YouTube. Language Arts have been a weak spot for me, The way you break down statements combined with the terminology of L.A is very helpful for me to learn. I appreciate this statement analysis not only as a way for me to become better with my own communication. It also helps understand what others are actually communicating. Martin I believe you are providing a wonderful community service ❤️ I Thank you more than my words have the ability to express.

  • There are a lot of fraudulent mediums, but it is possible to communicate with spirit. I heard spirit from a young age and so for a long time I assumed everyone did, the older I got the more I realised it wasn’t normal and society succeeded in crushing any belief I had in my own experience. I stopped “hearing” when I was in my early 20’s, then it started again when I had a spiritual awakening at nearly 40. I trust in this awareness because I’ve learned to trust myself, but I understand it’s very hard for others to accept and believe, especially when so many frauds pretend to make a quick buck. Being spiritually aware is very lonely, because I’m living an experience I most often cannot share or discuss because of people’s scepticism and attitude. I believe all human beings have higher senses that allow them to acknowledge many more layers of consciousness both within and without, we were just taught that it isn’t real and so we learned to switch off that part of ourselves. Even though it can feel alienating and upsetting when people question my integrity I remain very grateful that I can communicate with spirit, it has been a tremendous source of comfort, inspiration and strength and alleviated my fear of dying. It is also sometimes scary because beings in spirit are as variable (if not more so) than living humans, it’s not all love and light. I find that most people have had peculiar experiences of a spiritual nature, but without a scientific explanation they disregard it. The number of times I’ve heard “I don’t believe in spirit but let me tell you what happened to me once (insert spiritual story)”.

  • Martin, since I saw your article, I pulled up a couple of episodes of Teresa “on demand”. Now, the things you pointed out were jumping out at me. She is quite good at cold reading, but I almost felt I could do it myself after this, just by using these techniques. When she makes a mistake, she says “That is just my symbol or (whatever)” … or “That is Spirit telling me (whatever)”.

  • I think there are real mediums, as my brother encountered one when he was eating dinner in St. Croix. Some woman, who was eating dinner across the room, came up to him and said she was sorry to bother him, but this woman would not leave her alone until she talked to him. The woman was my mom who recently passed. She said she was with my Dad and a few other things, but the most important thing was she said our half brother was there. My brother had been trying to find him. So, where the mediums we see are frauds, there might be people out there with the “gift.” This woman was on vacation and doesn’t do it for money.

  • Ha! I was going off about this outside the toilets of a show -when the lady came up past us -Paula something. I was on about how they never pick the weird names or unusual jobs for the area I live. My grandparent used to be into all that; said you look at the washing line when you go to a house to do a reading, look at the shoes laid out on the porch. Prove a couple things like that and your more suggestible. I’m trained in Hypno, nlp and was doing a cosca counselling course at the time, I was interested in the ethics of using this as grief counselling and whether it was exploitative or did it help.

  • whats really interesting, is that, if the dead could really speak, they wouldnt need an interpreter to do it. the very fact someone you have never met before has access to YOUR loved one, rather than YOUR loved one contacting you directly, is utterly bewildering? and, i would imagine, alarmingly clearly false. imagine making phone calls with friends and family but theres an intermediary on the line interpreting the conversation? you’d hang immediately. the real question is why cant the victim see it? and what do they really need?

  • Howard Stern invited Theresa on his show and she said she would only do his show if she could talk to each member of the show individually and privately before going on his show. Howard declined. He didn’t want to have her have the opportunity of having any clues prior to coming on his show. that proves it right there and she wouldn’t do his show

  • It you are by nature or training skilled in emotional intelligence, intuition / instinct, communication and ‘reading’ people, you can convince them in a vulnerable state such as grief to do or believe anything. If you have these traits and skills, it is SO important to recognize them and use them for good. To have a lot of self awareness and understand how easily you can manipulate and influence others. They are incredibly powerful skills that not everyone is granted and can be used to do a lot of positive things for people (counseling, coaching, therapy, helping others build personal confidence, healing, helping frightened distressed people to be comforted etc) but can also be incredibly destructive and damaging if used for self serving purposes. To see these mediums happily defraud people for personal gain is heartbreaking. They could website their abilities into much better and helpful pursuits.

  • Thank you, Martin. I think you are one of the best, if not the best qualified analyst on the I/T. I once took classes in spinning from a wonderful Danish woman, who also grew in her garden many of the plants used for dying fabric. I found her to be unique – not at all like the Canadians we all were, afraid to be forthright and factual. I really admired the way she expressed herself and I see it in you too; the world could be a better place if we had more people from Denmark! Thank you too for tackling some excellent topics.

  • I know nothing about this person other than what’s in this article, but in this specific case I have to side with the comments shown at the end. That producer, or “mark” or whatever does seem to be better off than before the interaction. The way you seem to view these types is how I view psychologist, psychiatrist and the like. Most are complete charlatans, masters of self delusion and a waste of time and money, but some seem to be helped by them.

  • I do believe there are people who can tap into certain things… However I can only believe that those people who are genuine, don’t do it for cash… I know I have what I would call moments of insight… For example, a friend of mine came to my house, I opened the front door, and I said to him, immediately, your sister is pregnant.. I had only ever met his sister briefly, on a couple of occasions, I had not seen or heard anything about her for a couple of years.. I didn’t live anywhere near her… But I just knew.. My friend was shocked, as it was true… Other situations have happened to me that are similar, but the best way I can explain it, it’s like being in a darkened room, seeing the light around a shut door from the next room.. Some people must have the ability to kick the door open.. I can’t say I have that .. But I do have, what I call moments of insight.

  • Martin that work is a treasure of knowledge and analysis !! That would be fantastic to get your synopsis into books or and in audible and kindle ! It is worth a TONE of values !! I screenshot your sentences and print them out to better metabolized it !! I feel your sentences so well built on that I should take notes ! When will we be able to grab you in Amazon ? Seriously!!

  • Absolutely amazing, logic-based analysis. I recently went to a medium with friends who had just lost their Husband/Dad. I’ve always been skeptical of mediums and psychics but impressed with their skill to almost make you believe they have some special relationship with the dead. I watched my friends question her, and it was immediately apparent that they weren’t skeptical at all. They wanted to believe their loved one goes on in some way and therefore forgave the mistakes and missteps the medium made.

  • The Amazing Randy a magician who devoted the last years of his life to debunking all manner of psychic phenomena told a story about an exercise he did with audiences at his Randy institute. After a lot of hocus pocus type narrative, he handed out envelopes that supposedly analyzed people’s personalities, telling them about “deep” hidden facets of themselves. The participants opened and read their analyses that were based on their horoscopes. Every person agreed that their personal analysis was accurate and captured the essence of who he/she was. As you have probably guessed, the analyses were identical. Word for word as though run off on a copier, identical, yet each person believed that his/her paper captured the essence of who he/she truly was deep inside.

  • Very well done! A proper and appropriate analysis. Interestingly, the same distinction between heart felt focus on love and rational focus on logic is a major issue with ‘spiritual’ and religious communities that focus on the idea of love as if rational understanding like physics has no bearing on their ultimate philosophy. I’ve experienced the backlash of those who say ‘love’ by suggesting they might also need some logic in their mix only to be rejected as if I am stamping on love by doing so. If true reality is ignored in favor of hugs and kisses no matter what, the very idea of being self-honest and discerning is ignored, and yet these are the very people who claim to be so honest with themselves, because they are ‘spiritual,’ that they cannot be fooled when their heart is involved. If the medium goes for the heart and seems sincere, the listener thinks it’s all good. The misses the medium gets are simply ignored and passed off as an unknown to the listener only, as if the medium knows more than they are telling and holds a seat of high honor in the spiritual world that allows them this incredible information at their fingertips that only they can know. That is very dangerous, at best, but it makes for great TV. It’s nicely dramatic and mysterious. The true human condition is simply a spectrum of ignorance, it seems. I don’t think anyone likes to admit that.

  • You perfectly explained the psysiological & psychological processing that the human mind undergoes during grief and how the questioning from the medium reflects that as well. What you have not given objective credit to is that Theresa is not an expert trained in psychology, body language analysis or linguistics analysis, therefore I think it’s fair to see what she does as a form of entertainment and counseling to her clients. From her perspective, these observations come to her from a “divine” source. I see no malicious intent to swindle anyone or humiliate I any way. I see a intent to help, and the utilization of the skills at hand

  • I disagree with you respectfully. I am not a psychic or a medium but I have the gift I have chosen never to do anything with it. I was at work one day and a co worker was standing next to me. I told him point blank you are going to have a baby soon. He looked at me confused, he never had any kids and wasn’t dating anyone. 2 months later he came up to me and told me I jinxed him. He said he had just starting dating a girl and she found out she’s pregnant. I told him yeah it’s a boy. I didn’t jinx him I merely told him what I saw. He did end up having a son! He didn’t ask me for a ‘reading’ and I certainly didn’t charge him for anything. I merely told him a vision I saw. I wasn’t friends with this person, I didn’t know much about him at all. He was standing by me, I said what I said, at the time he thought I was crazy but it ended up being reality. There are people who are born with a gift! Again I’m not a medium, I don’t do readings and I don’t charge money.

  • Martin, You are so right here! Excellent breakdown of the wiles of mediums, spiritists, palm readers and the like. The Bible warns about consulting such people as in Leviticus 19:31, “Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.” What you explain here is why the warning applies. 😊

  • HELP. How do the popular local ones do it? My wife swears she only gave her unlisted number to make her reservation, and this psychic said some very specific things they shouldn’t be able to guess. I know it’s all bs but I can’t figure out how they knew these things. My main point is that if it was real it wouldn’t always just be about making you feel a little better about a loved one who died. Mediums would be solving murders, being led to treasures, finding lost items, all kinds of stuff, but no it’s always, “I’m getting an S, maybe Susan. She says she loves you and really appreciated the time spent together”.

  • Everything she said about the blanket, ring and nightgown would apply to my Grandmother too. Its sort of like asking if your toddler liked to play and McDonald’s. Toddler things. Grandmother things. I hate this so much! (Her con not your article. Your analysis is awesome!) Even skeptical people would try to be polite and agree when she is eagerly grinning in your face. People don’t to hurt someone’s feelings in most cases.

  • The only fictional character had a realistic effect was from Spock, look at life with logic did make me a little wiser. Take E.T. or unidentified objects in the air or anywhere, all you know is that you don’t know. Did E.T. visit? No evidence what so ever, just runaway speculation. Good presentation, entertaining!

  • I was not a believer in spirits making connections with people until a YouTuber Rev. Donna solved the Daybell/Vallow murders. 6 months before there was even a clue..she was told by spirits every detail. Place, people and very sadly how the children were murdered and buried..right down to a necklace found in the hole.

  • I did security for her “Experience”, and I could tell something was off, then I paid attention to her lines of questioning, in fact, she said verbatim some of the same things she said to Jackie. I never believed in psychics, anyways. But seeing it in person just cemented it. I wanted to go back stage and ask her how she could live with herself after conning that entire audience.

  • If they are not flawlessly solving crimes and other issues only they (the person that has passed away) would have knowledge of, then they (the medium) are fake. Equaling, all of them are fake. Any medium who could accurately talk about the past in this light would be gold and would not have to do these little shows and seances.

  • The tragedy of it all lies in the sheer stupidity of imagining that happiness and meaning in life will come through just feeling good, with nonsense that tells us we’re very special, rather than through the more difficult process of determining and dealing with what is reliably accurate about reality, and about ourselves.

  • I’ve had loads of medium readings and all have been so incredibly generic and vague. Why? Because there’s absolutely nothing to see on my Facebook page so they can’t hot read me. My readings have pretty much gone: Oh your grandad is here, Who is the male who died of a heart attack or heart issues? I’m sure we all know a few. Who is the lady who died of cancer? Again we all know a few. Who had the miscarriage? Again miscarriages are so incredibly common that we all know a few. There’s a birthday or anniversary coming up. Statisticly most families will have a birthday or anniversary coming up. There’s only 12 months in a year so giving any given month has a high chance of getting a hit. You’ve kept some of their clothes, You sleep with something of theirs. You’re getting memorial bears or jewellery made. Whose getting the tattoo in memory? Are you thinking about moving? I’m seeing keys, maybe new house or car. There’s been disagreements in the family. You’ve got a ring / necklace of your mams/ a watch of your dad’s. You’ve been thinking about a trip or holiday . You should go. Are you decorating? Making home improvements? Has someone recently been for an eye test or blood tests? Throw in some common names like Margaret, Lynn, David, Anthony/Tony I’m sure I would have had much better “readings” if my Facebook was full of information though.

  • Some not all are total con artists and at that very multi skilled they basically are narcissists praying on your vulnerability they know how to quickly move on when a person has a reading they are not thinking properly so they only here the hits not the misses alot of information is stored in the subconscious mind of the sitter mediums don’t realise they tap into the unconscious mind were all memories are stored from themselves and loved ones. To be a medium you have to give names specific things you wouldn’t know dates things places even health issues we call these body scans basically a good medium is also a seer and will time travel with remote viewing the rest is just cold reading from these fakes people like myself know if we were to pray on the vunrable we would quit believe it or not if your to good people don’t believe you if your fake they love you..

  • PS: this article reminds me of an old school SVU episode with Martin Short, but he gets B.D. Wonged!! Hargitay tries to fake reactions and lie to the psychic, but his “facial expression radar” is so good, he spots the deception and calls her out. Maybe these are cheesy episodes now (and then too?) but I love classic SVU for the drama peppered with information.

  • Whamo bam! Thats right my friend thank you for aharing. Ive never ever read this many comments because i was saddened to hear so many people that have, for whatever sad reason, shut themselves off to the majesty of the spirit world! And i Love that you share that it can sound false, because your tapping into a twisty person who is not quite right. Absolutely true and you are beautiful for sharing this! Rick on with your entrusted outstanding gifts! Love and light to you!

  • Your final comment is how I feel also. I know people who know her personally and believe she’s real. I thought your idea of projection was interesting as there are other mediums from similar backgrounds as she who also claim to be mediums. I found it telling when I was once introduced by my shortened name of Katy to a different psychic, but later when that person spoke to me, referred to me by my full first name which they must’ve found on Facebook. I believe this same person uses social media to find things out about others (where they’re going, what they have going on in their lives), and uses that information when having a session with people because a lot of their clients are from referrals from friends, so they can easily look them up.

  • Martin, thank you so much for doing this article. this is so important with the deception of the state of the dead! There are so so many verses saying that they are asleep, they know nothing, they have nothing to do with the world, they’re in the dark. they are asleep. Thank you, brother.❤Enjoy your articles.

  • I can see this is a year old but hey, loved it and your right on the button Martin you clever man. Your observations are great, wish I could learn your talent. I think this analysis of Theressa can be applied to a lot of others. Especially JOhn Edwards who I thought from the beginning was a scam or whatever word one wants to put on hm. Done in a live setting must be easier I reckon. got a lot of people who would be able to relate to lol. Thanks for that. I noticed to that you dont look at the camera like you do nowadays and wheres your humour gone.? I was waiting for the other you to be there and your lovely comments along the way. :hand-pink-waving:🤣🤣🤣💗❤

  • They say things that will apply to almost everyone and then just follow the feedback to hone in. I guess she just tells people what they want to hear. Everyone has lost people and some desperately need closure. If it makes them feel better about that maybe it’s not that bad even if it’s not true. I’m sure that’s how the medium justifies their con.

  • Can you read one of her skeptic ones? Because the queues you speak of only happen in readings where these people are obvious fans. In skeptic articles they don’t queue her the same and say will no and get rude — especially older men. That would be interesting, her having to read a disagreeable old man. There’s a few, old male skeptic articles of hers. They’re the best.

  • I paid so much money to go and see her and she is absolutely a fraud and the whole audience left feeling so sad and empty you could feel it at the end of the show we all were just walking back to our cars as she was swooped away at the end of the show. She didn’t answer any questions or have a meet and greet or anything it was all b.s and she made NO connections the entire show! I was there with someone who just lost a parent and it was just heartbreaking but the Bible speaks specifically against this stuff

  • Martin..how does Caputos physical appearance, tone of voice affect the subject..to me, she is annoying and her appearance to me shouts fakery..how you managed to view the article for your article must have been a struggle at times…and another question i have is you must have had great mentors/professors for guidance and instruction..almost an inane gift that was nurtured? amazing talent that you can relate the facts to this audience…

  • I absolutely agree with you. As a professional psychic with 30 years experience under my belt, I have long recognised how they operate. But there is an assumption that all intuitive workers are automatically cut from the same cloth. I myself do not see or speak to my customers in person or over the phone. I receive an email giving basic information and produce the consultation as an audio file. There could be an argument that I am looking people up on social media – however, most people do not reveal the reality of their inner world on social media. Also, my work is future-based, and social media wouldn’t supply that kind of detail. The point is, it is entirely possible for human beings to ‘read’ one another without being in each other’s company. But this is not being explored because the popular psychics and mediums are presented as completely representitive of the industry.

  • Hi, Martin. Great content. I’m curious about your orgins?? I’ve been perusal your articles for a few months, and you sound “standard” British in the recent content I’ve watched… but in this article, your accent / delivery is a bit different. Is from (I’m closing my eyes to focus, like a bad pyschic in a turban)… continental Europe??? Hope that isn’t a creepy question, I’m simply curious because I can’t pin it down and I’m intrigued by accents.

  • I am not a fan of these kinds of shows. I absolutely respect your scientific explanations of human behavior. That being said, this woman had a brain scan done at a college research lab while “preforming” her spirit sessions and it did document highly unusual brain activity in those times, mirroring the same brain activity as the out of body experiences described by Monks during the deepest forms of meditation. I’m no expert, but that is a part of this equation that you omitted, I will assume unintentionally.

  • A neurologist carried out brain scans on Theresa Caputo and found that she had very distinct and unusual brain activity. The conclusion was that it was reasonable to say this could be responsible for part of her abilities. But that further scientific advancements were needed. When the US Govt is financing decades long remote-viewing and other psychic testing it’s rash to discredit it purely through language analysis. Her use of language is likely to be a “support” to the main work she’s doing. No one exercises their key skill in isolation? An Olympic athlete can run incredibly fast but he also relies on his breathing and his mental state of mind. Language analysis can be definitive in some cases but it’s mostly part of a jigsaw. You can certainly tell when someone’s pulling a fast one! But to claim that psychics are exposed as frauds, because of their use of speech, is too far. You also need to account for the fact that most psychic-type activity is situational and spontaneous in its presentation. These people are put on the spot time and performance-wise by cameras or a group event – so, again, it makes sense to “support” their sensory/psychic work with other abilities, such as words/language. That doesn’t lead to the conclusion that it’s all fake.

  • Why doesn’t this medium slow down her speech? Why does she ask so many questions when as a psychic she should know the answers to already? This con versation feels like an interrogation more than like a revelation. Why does she give commands in the form of questions? A true medium hears the voices of the dead speak about the person in question. During her fast pace ramblings, there is not even enough time for her to hear a message from the dead to convey to the person. Messages from the dead have to be specific and unique to be believed. This is deceptive manipulation at the level of a professional magician. She likely was a high pressure saleswoman in a previous profession. Martin’s description of the paradigm of pathos and logos is both important and relevant to our times. Here we see a clear example of how pathos(emotion) is subject to manipulation and exploitation whereas logos is not as susceptible. Those who rely on pathos are more likely to exploit others and be exploited. I believe that understanding pathos is the key to morality, however limiting your own pathos with logos (rational thought) is the key to civility.

  • Do not give psychics any money or credence, it disgusts me how they rob vulnerable people and control them with bs. I’ve seen a friend completely disregard logic about an abusive boyfriend because the medium convinced her that she spoke to the boyfriend’s dead Aunt (who would have spoken a different language) and how the aunt knows the boyfriend does love her and has problems that stem from his childhood and his culture that my friend doesn’t know about. The medium filled my friend’s head with such garbage and she’s now back with the abusive boyfriend and blaming herself for letting down and not understanding the boyfriend. She justifies all the boyfriends bad behaviour with what the medium told her. She paid the medium a small fortune and won’t hear a word questioning the validity of the medium. It’s so sad to see an otherwise fairly intelligent woman cling onto every word that the medium says and it’s clear they target people who are desperate in one way or another.

  • This is NOT true. Just isn’t any field. There are many fraud’s pretending to be psychic mediums. However, I have been a psychic, medium my entire life. It is normal for me to talk and communicate with those who have crossed over. It is normal for me to have strong intuition and premonitions, it is normal for me to do all of those things. It’s just simply my way of life, and it is sincere and authentic. We all have these abilities, but we are taught early on in society and brainwashed to believe that we do not especially by religion. It is very sad for me to see this article even though he’s a lifelong, intuitive, psychic, medium, I am all too familiar with these beliefs. I am sad for those who believe what is in this article, but I am also a huge encourager of skepticism as long as it is not cynicism that cuts you off from greater realities beyond the one we are taught in force to believe in society. Believe what you will, but I can tell you as an intuitive, psychic, medium not all of us are frauds. And you to have these abilities.

  • I’m sorry, but this just is not true. I’m sure you could prove me to be a total fake with the right intellectual conversation and trickery, but the truth is as many of us have this gift and you do too. We are all psychic mediums, and it begins with her intuition. It is very easy to trick us, and say were scammers even those of us who do most of our readings for free. This is because the readings come in through consciousness and you were judging through just the cognitive processes and the reason we can communicate beyond is because we’re going to be on the cognitive mind. I don’t expect you to believe me, but I am sad to see all these people out there attacking psychic mediums. There are frauds and fakes in every single profession and they’re always will be. Most of us psychic mediums are honestly just trying to help people and we are honestly connecting you with the other side. The problem is is we actually connect to your energy so if you are projecting an image of a fake person, another spirit can come in, and our mind can merge that to appear to be the image that we’re reading from you, which would cause us to give a fake reading, even though our heart was in the right place. If you don’t do this type of work, you don’t understand that we are connecting countless bits of vibrational frequency, and we have to interpret each and everyone of these in order to give a reading so it is very easy to fool us into giving a reading that appears to be fake when actually, we are totally reading you.

  • I went to The Lo 21:16 ng Island Medium as a skeptic but wanted to see for myself. There were several obstacles that I had to overcome before going. I now realize that I was meant to go. I was the first one she read. She said it was my Brother. She told me things but I knew absolutly nothing about his passing. I couldn’t confirm what she said but she kept repeating. I told her I knew nothing. When I got home I did some research and found his autopsy report and found everything that Teresa told me was spot on. There was no way she got any clues from me since I didn’t even know.

  • I believe you got this all wrong. Everything thing Teresa days confirms things I’ve heard from spirit and I keep these things to myself I don’t do readings at all or try to sell my gift because my purpose on this journey is one not to heal others from the departed. Look another thing I’d like to say is for your health trying to expose people and seek to find them as frauds can’t be beneficial to your life or your growth. I pick up the same messages as her and I get it she bares good fruit to those who believe her. But I think it would benefit you to go within yourself and you would absolutely be able to tap into the same information the more love you have in your heart now I’m not saying there aren’t any frauds but I had to tell my truth with Theresa. Thanks and God bless.

  • You are generalising. Everybody is psychic, even you. Like any faculty, it can be developed to a high standard. Some people are ‘naturally’ a bit more open than others. However, it is a field in which charlatans can thrive, unfortunately, and it is very sad that a lot of people dismiss everything as a result of their practises. If anybody is open minded enough to develop their psychic side, find a reputable development class and learn there. It can be of benefit to a lot of people. A lot of spiritualists churches do not charge anything for running circles. And remember, skepticism = open mindedness not blanking everything.

  • I am no medium, but I did have an “imaginary friend” at the age of 2, whom mirrored the prior, deceased, owner. Learned about it when the owners came over, watched me talking to a corner, and asked my dad about it. He told them I was talking to my imaginary friend, Dot, she’s a maid. Then they told him, they inherited the house from their mother who died in a chair in that corner. She worked as a house cleaner, her name was “Dorthy”, but everyone called her “Dot.” My dad’s face turned pale.

  • You cannot analyze the spirit world with fancy words and science stuff. I just have to swallow that huge pill that God did create All, even the unbelievers, haters and the bad guys that use their energies to tear down beautiful spiritual true love. Its all for a greater purpose that none get to grasp right now. What i do know is that my heart and my head sure do feel special after reading how many people carry negative thoughts about such an extraordinary gift that so.many people do truly have and share and have produced healing waves across the globe with! Im just humbly grateful that i am one that receives and picks up on those waves and fresh sweet air when life seems heavy and im all of a sudden refreshed from the heavens! Dear lord if even one heart can be opened up for you to wiggle in a little holy spirit Love, my time here is worthy! God blesses my friends, you just gotta sincerely ask!

  • When I was very young, around 6 yrs old, images would pop out of nowhere in my head. I didn’t think much of it until one day I was with my friend playing outdoors. It was recess and both of us had lunch boxes. His mom made these pastries of real whipped cream and I asked him if he could share it with me. He agreed. He handed it to me, our hands touched and I remember it felt as if he burnt my hand, I saw an image of him crying so much. He couldn’t stop crying in the image. I dropped the pastry. This lasted only a few seconds but the image felt burnt in my mind. Went home after school that day and I asked my mom if she could make a pastry for my lunch like my friends mom did for him. She asked me why I would even think of such a thing and I told her about his mom doing that for him and about the image I saw in my mind which made me drop the pastry. I go a no from her. The next day my friend never showed up to school. His dad had a major heart attack sometime during the night & he died. Joey didn’t show up at school for 2 weeks. I called him by telephone, never spoke with him, his mom told me he was too upset at his father dying. When I heard that, the image in my mind the day before he died made total sense. Somehow, after briefly touching Joey’s hand I got a glimpse of his immediate future. Our religion taught us that it was a sin or some kind of demon possession so I didn’t pursue it. But as the years passed and I was getting older these images would happen out of the blue after I touched someone who had something terrible happen in their life soon afterward.

  • I totally disagree with this. Some people are tlhat’s true and I think it’s because we put the emphasis on people that are lying about what they can do that we see it everywhere. Western culture does not validate extra sensory perceptions and it also lays an expectation that everyone who claims this gift is lying. I’ve had several extra sensory experiences myself and I can tell you, I wasn’t lying. People are naturally scared by what they don’t understand. Contrary to popular belief it’s not magic though it does take a commitment to trusting one’s own intuition and working consistently to develop the practice.
