The legality of drugs, including weed and hash, is generally considered legal. However, using psychedelics like magic mushrooms and magic truffles can be risky and requires respect. In the Netherlands, magic truffles are legal, but psilocybin remains legal in Amsterdam. Truffles and spores are also legal and easily accessible in smartshops, urban stores that sell legal drugs.

Psychedelic truffles, also known as “magic truffles”, are fungi that give psychedelic effects when consumed. They are a narcotic labeled under the “drug” label and outlawed in most countries. However, in the Netherlands, magic truffles offer a more mellow experience. The sale of most hallucinogenic mushrooms (also known as magic mushrooms or paddos) has been forbidden since November 1, 2008. More than 200 different mushrooms were put on the ban list and are currently illegal.

The Netherlands will ban the sale and cultivation of all hallucinogenic “magic” mushrooms from next week, tightening the country’s liberal drug policies. Amsterdam has considered legalizing marijuana, prostitution, and gay activities for decades. The most commonly sold types of magic mushrooms in Amsterdam are Psilocybe cubensis varieties, most notably the Psilocybe mexicana.

While recreational use, possession, and trade of non-medicinal drugs described by the Opium Law are technically illegal under Dutch law, official policy dictates the Dangerous Drugs Act in the Bahamas. In 2007, the Minister of Health of the Netherlands requested the CAM (Coordination point Assessment and Monitoring new drugs) to assess the overall risk of using psychedelics.
