The Spells Known column of the Bard table indicates when you learn more bard spells of your choice, each of which must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For instance, when you reach 3rd level in this class, you can learn one new spell of 1st or 2nd level.
Bards can already cast ritual spells, but they are strictly limited by the fact that they permanently learn spells. Low-level spells, even if they’re rituals, might need to be replaced to make them more effective. Dispelling spells of a higher level than Dispel Magic requires an ability check, so you can cast Dispel Magic at a higher spell level if you absolutely need to end.
When you gain a Bard level, you can replace one of your known spells from the Bard Spell List with another. The new spell must also be from the Bard Spell List and must be of a Spell Level that you can cast. At 6th level, you learn two spells of your choice from any class. A spell you choose must be of a level you can cast, as shown on the Bard table, or a cantrip.
The basic class features are the same for all bards, but the subclasses and spellcasting choices are where this class really becomes versatile. Hit Points are 1d8 per bard level. The DnD Bard 5e class is fueled by charisma, using the power of performance to cast spells, charm others, and inspire their party. This guide includes the complete rules for playing a Dungeons and Dragons game.
Bards begin at level 1 with 4 spells known, then gain (on average) 1 new known spell per level, until they reach 6th level. At 6th level, you learn two spells of your choice from any class, and one spell can be swapped out for another for every level gained. The new spell must be at a level where the Bard has the appropriate spell.
While this guide has a strong focus on the best Bard spells, it also provides a detailed explanation of the progression table and the mechanics behind it.
