Quick play spell cards, normal trap cards, quick monster effects, and continuous traps all have spell speed 2, which allows them to chain to spell speed 1 and other spell speed 2 cards. Chains are built in order of ascending Spell Speed, meaning a Spell Speed 3 effect can chain to any effect, while a Spell Speed 2 effect can only be chained to a Spell. Traps, Quick-Play Spells, and monster Quick Effects are all Spell Speed 2, so they can be added to a Chain in any order.
Quick-play spells are spell speed 2, as well as other traps except counter trap. They can be activated at any point during the opponent’s turn, such as when they’re about to play a card. However, if a player sets a Quick-Play Spell Card during their own turn, they cannot activate it until the beginning of their opponent’s next turn.
Quick-like effects on traps are similar to Trigger Effects but of a faster Spell Speed. They are identified by their speed. Counter Traps can only be used against the card they are immediately following in a chain. Only Spell Speed 2+ cards can be activated during the Battle Phase, including normal trap, counter trap, continuous trap, quick-play spell, or any Speed 2 card.
Quick-play spell cards should always be able to activate in response to a trap or spell card to ensure defensive play has a strong impact.
