The Magic Keyboard Folio brings full-size keys, travel, and responsive feel of the Magic Keyboard to the entry-level iPad for the first time. It also introduces a function row to an Apple iPad. The new edition features a “floating cantilever design” that adjusts the angle of your iPad as you type on the keyboard. However, there is no way to fold the Magic Keyboard back behind the iPad Pro to get to an ideal sketching angle.
The Magic Keyboard Folio folds into a case to provide front and back protection for traveling with iPad Pro and iPad Air. System requirements include iPad Pro 11-inch or 12.9-inch (1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th generation).
The keyboard doesn’t fold behind the iPad, so you must completely remove it from the device to use it like one. The Smart Keyboards allow you to fold the keyboard all the way around to the back, like you would with a regular non-keyboard iPad cover. However, the Magic Keyboard Folio allows you to fold it all the way to the back of the iPad when it is not needed.
Some reviewers dislike the Smart Keyboard’s added weight or having fingers rest against mushy keys when the keyboard is folded back, but the new Magic Keyboard doesn’t try to do that. It doesn’t fold back on itself and doesn’t offer a tablet experience.
