Attack Power is a physical damage attribute that increases your base melee damage-per-second (DPS) by 1 point for every 14 Attack Power. It can be gained with either Strength or Agility, depending on your class. In WoW Classic, Weapon Stats such as Armor Penetration, Attack Speed, Attack Power, Critical Strike Chance, Hit Chance, and Weapon Skill affect weapon damage.
As a Hunter, 1 Agility gives you 2 ranged Attack Power, 1 melee AP, a small increase to your chance to critically strike, 2 armor, and a bonus. Spellpower is the stat that modifies how much damage or healing any caster’s spells will have. Every ability takes a percentage of a player’s spellpower and modifies its ultimate effect by that amount. Agility improves your armor rating, your chance to dodge an attack, and your chance to score a critical hit with a melee or ranged attack, thus dealing increased damage.
In Classic, there are five primary stats: Strength, Agility, Intellect, Stamina, and Spirit. Strength increases the amount of your melee attack power, while Spell Power is now Intellect. 1 SP = 1 Int, previously known as Arafal.
Attack Power (AP) increases your base DPS by 1 for every 14 Attack Power. Most abilities scale with attack power and spell power equally, so strength far outweighs spell power for threat. However, attack power does increase the damage of some “spell” attacks, and varies depending on your spec.
In summary, Attack Power is a crucial attribute in WoW Classic that increases your base weapon damage by 1 point for every 14 Attack Power. It can be gained with either Strength or Agility depending on your class.
