Does Dex Help A Sorcerer Cast Spells More Effectively?

The tooltip suggests that incantations and spells with long windups are less affected by DEX in their cast speeds. In sorcery testing, spells with long windups are less affected by DEX cast speed increases. The question is whether it is better for a sorcerer or wizard to use spells a little before (dex) and increase their armor or should they have higher health points (cons).

Dex is mostly for AC, initiative, and any dex skills like stealth. It’s generally worth having a +1 or +2 in dex for non-heavy armor users. Charisma fuels your spells, with your spell save DC and spell attack bonus tied to the stat. Max out your Charisma as much as possible to make your magic more effective.

To build a DEX/INT sorcerer, one should consider the Bloodline of Glasya: CHA for spellcasting and DEX for AC, while the Bloodline of Levistus: CHA for spellcasting, CON for hit points, and INT push. Dexterity only benefits a sorcerer build for PvP, but the advantage your casting speed will get will be very marginal.

The typical argument for high dex for a sorcerer is that they can’t use spells in armor so need to get AC from dex. They need dex for any spell that requires a ranged touch attack on a target, such as acid arrow. Heavy arrow spells will always cast slowly, even with 45 dex, but they also benefit the most from the stat. Dexterity has two benefits: it lowers AC and makes the caster more difficult for others to hit, and it improves the chance to avoid being hit.

Does dex matter for sorcerer BG3?

The main stat of a sorcerer is charisma, with dex aiding in AC due to the lack of armor. Con is useful for extra HP and doesn’t require str/int/wis except for saves and skills. To maximize stats, set str/int/wis at 8, pump CHR as high as possible, and prioritize DEX/CON. Dex is preferred for its ability to increase sleight of hand. If a stat is no longer needed, redo the character and pump another stat, like con or dex, or choose 10s instead of 8s for saving throw.

The choice of party doesn’t matter as the events of the heist will result in V and Jackie not getting paid, and Dex will likely stab V in the back for more money. Regardless of the choice, the overall outcome is not significantly impacted.

What stat makes sorcery stronger?

The author, an Astrologer, suggests that increasing Intelligence is not effective for increasing damage. Instead, it is recommended to increase Intelligence to the level needed to cast a desired spell and then increase Vigor or other stats to increase survivability. Intelligence can raise the “Sorcery Scaling” attribute on staffs, which increases damage. To improve stats, it is suggested to get enough Intelligence to use the desired spell, with 26 Intelligence being sufficient for most spells. Starting out with Glintstone Pebble is sufficient for most situations. Mind increases the FP pool, allowing for more spells before needing recharge.

  • Surprised no mention of the Glintstone Kris. With shard of Alexander and Godfrey’s icon it absolutely slaps, pierces through targets and has an insane follow up r2 that can catch people off guard. Minimal FP use too. Magic shrouding cracked tear + the int tear also slaps. I do prefer a more slice and dice build though personally. Anyway great vid for people to use as a base as always. Cheers

  • Very similar to what im running rn. I wonder tho why You choose few things, i assume because of level, or accesibility maybe. But from my (maybe wrong) observations You could amp it up with few things: 1.Id put golden vow on misericorde and upgrade it cause of stance breaking potential and misericorde having higher critical with 0 or 1 more to load if i remember. 2.Id go with Carian regal scepter for more scaling and actually not bad ash of war (tho i switch weapons and staves from same slot side), plus You can boost the moon spells. 3.Getting moon spells, good dmg, debuff with rannis moon, great for start of a boss. Also night comet for it being literally unavoidable by any creature in game. 4.Spellblade set is nice, but You will need more if You don’t want to be always 1shotted on NG pluses. Even on lower lvls just for sake of being little tanky Id use Ranni’s hat, which boost Cold dmg (which is always nice) by 10%, use nice chunky armor, and maybe use spellblade gloves and pants for this little bonus, or 1 if i cant hit 51 poise. 5.The turtle talisman is awesome, its nice seeing it getting some love, graven mass, and alexanders are a must in my opinion, but personally i don’t find moonveil that fp costly as mage, You could always use dragoncrest for defense, or magic scorp charm for 12% more to all magic dmg. I feel it just being more efficient in a long run. 6.The cerulean flask is good to spam Azuls, or some moons at the beginning, but for many bosses that may require more strategy and time i find it usually better to take either the stance breaking tear(thorny if i remember?

  • THANK YOU!!! i just started and am TERRIBLE! I killed my first “boss” at 9 hours (some lesser enemy in a wolf cave). i’ve never played a souls game before — everything is extremely confusing. the timestamps, explanation, clearly spoken/articulated script, and info on where to get things is going to be so helpful. like and sub to come back to this vidya… i’m still gonna get my face smashed in for another 30 hours before i really start “cheating” and just book it to wherever the locations are you mentioned (i didn’t pay attention on purpose). peace!

  • this is is very similar to what I cobbled together at release in 2022. I used alot of azula’s moon blade & the slicer spells and ignored the comet spells though. gosh was moonveil’s stagger damage busted at releasee. would 100% re-do a version of this build using the wing of astel or darkmoon great sword in the future though.

  • Never played a souls game before, but I’m doing pretty well thanks to youtube guides. I want a melee-ish mage because I love the melee fighting quite a lot, lol. This game relies heavily on content creators, youtube and other social media. Without it, people wouldn’t even play it because there’s nothing showing you what to do and where to go. Cheese builds are developed on purpose for content creators to share, and the game gets good reviews and marketing in return. It’s all connected so as consequence I would never rate ER as a difficult game. Those elitists who claim otherwise are just a cog in the wheel.

  • Get to 150. Put ten points into mind and distribute the rest of the stats according to what’s most important to you. If you’re keeping this outfit for the buff you’ll definitely need more vigor. That said, the moonveil also scales with dex so you may want to place some points there. At that point though, you’ll definitely want to make some significant changes. Specifically, I would swap that offhand staff out. With this build probably carian regal scepter. You could do lusats or azurs if you wanted to stick with the glintstone skills, but either way, throw in some more FP efficient spells like Glintstone Comet Shard, the single shot Lorettas great bow, and glintstone shards. Having options like carian slicer, adula moonblade, or the hammer are good. I will say, if you want to enjoy the game without the comet azur cheese….try something like rannis dark moon or meteorite of astel.

  • Where is the fun in one-shooting everything incl bosses? This min maxing exploits just shows how bad the game design is and how lame and scared you have to be that your only reason to play is to avoid any challenge. Elden Ring is for babies with confidence issues. Worst FS game ever. Play Sekiro instead.
