The University of San Francisco’s mascot, the Don, has been used for over 90 years, representing the institution’s heritage and the legacy of slavery. The debate over the Indian nickname and mascot continues, with the most prevalent argument being that they honor Indians. The white-goateed Confederate army colonel is considered an offensive symbol of slavery, but some students, alumni, and Ole Miss alumni still honor the Don.
