Dunn-Rite, a popular Canadian chicken finger brand, has been discontinued due to concerns about the legality of its products. The demand for meat from animals slaughtered according to Islamic law in the U.S. has grown, leading some grocers to avoid using the halal label due to fears of zabiha. However, the American Muslim ruling on meat states that if Christians (i.e. Americans) slaughter meat, it is considered halal if they say “bismillah” before slaughtering.
Sargent Farms in Ontario and Dunn-Rite in Manitoba also provide halal poultry, as do other small processors across the country. Cargill’s Dunlop facility in Ontario specializes in halal beef, while SunGold Meats in Alberta specializes in halal lamb and goat. Other Canadian companies even sell halal bison and elk.
Dunn-Rite Food Products Ltd., located at 199 Hamelin Street Winnipeg, is certified Halal by Halal Transactions of Omaha. They offer a full range of uncooked, ready-to-cook, and fully cooked fresh and frozen poultry and meat products. The Halal Monitoring Authority has certified this establishment as offering one or more halal options.
In addition to their halal chicken products, Dunn-Rite Food Products also provides halal turkey slaughtering and processing services. Their products are available at Sobeys under a different name, and their environmental assessment of their upgraded food-processing facility was prepared by Stantec.
In conclusion, the demand for halal chicken products in the U.S. has increased due to the growing Muslim population and the growing demand for meat from animals slaughtered according to Islamic law. However, some grocers may not use the halal label due to concerns about zabiha and the legality of their products.
📹 Exposing the CORRUPTION in the Halal Industry (Full Documentary) | Br Malaz Majanni
For the past few months, OnePath Network has been investigating the Halal Industry in Australia. Our findings were shocking, …
How do you know if chicken is halal?
Halal meat is a type of meat that is prepared following specific Islamic dietary laws, including a humane slaughter method. It is obtained by looking for Halal certification labels from reputable Islamic organizations, checking the labeling and packaging, asking the supplier or seller, asking for restaurant certification, and checking for Halal symbols. Halal meat is considered different from regular meat due to its unique taste and preparation methods.
Can Muslims eat halal chicken?
Halal meat, commonly used in Islam, refers to meat that Muslims can consume, such as lamb, beef, goat, and chicken. However, not all meat is halal, as it must be raised and butchered in a specific way and have a prayer said before slaughtering. Halal meat is healthy, as the animals are fed a vegetarian diet and cannot be treated with antibiotics, growth hormones, or other additives. Muslims are not allowed to slaughter sick animals, as the blood from the carcass must be completely drained to prevent contamination.
Some types of meat are not allowed in Islam, including carnivores with fangs, birds with talons, domesticated donkeys, reptiles, and animals that have died due to natural causes or have not been butchered. These meats are not allowed or permissible in Islam, despite following proper rituals.

Additionally, the list of products includes Pillsbury’s Pie Crust, Kellogg’s Frosted Mini-Wheats Cereal, and Starbuck’s coffee.

Mufti Menk explained the meaning of Halal in a way that is easily understood. ▻ Become our Patron – Your Constant Sadqa Jaria: …
in Malaysia recently there’s a big ruckus that a multimillion-dollar company was importing non-halal meat from Australia and pose it as halal…and it has been going on for 40years. It got a lot of backlashes but somehow it is swept under the rug as some of high ranking government officials was involve, possibly from our very own halal certification body. so our citizens just avoid getting any meat from Australia just to be safe.
For at least 5 years, my family have stopped buying chicken. We grow them ourselves in our backyard (and we live in such limited space), and only eat chicken whenever our chickens are mature enough to be slaughter. I think all muslim have to be self sufficient and capable to grow and process their own food. For many cultures, it’s a lost skill. I’m living in Indonesia btw, but in an place where muslim is minority.
Assalamalaikum this documentary has bought back memories. A few years ago I went into a takeaway and asked if they were Halal and the guy behind the counter laughed at me and said “Do you really think that their is a guy with a knife in the slaughtering houses saying Allah Hu Akbar every time he kills millions of chickens it’s all the same haram and halal” I was gobsmacked but it did actually get me thinking and this was in the UK.
– Prophet Muhammad (salla Allahu alayhe wa sallam) said: “At the time of breaking the fast, Allah choses people who will be freed from the hell fire, and never ever enter it. And that happens every single night.” o I pray to Allah for you and I to be of those whom He chooses and to be freed the hell fire. Sahih Ibn Majah
I worked at a halal restaurant and we were always busy every Friday since the restaurant is connnected near the masjid. One of my coworkers told me never to eat the chicken . I asked why because they buy it from Costco the cheap bulk kind that’s non halal. After this experience I quit and wonder if other halal butcher shops or market does the same thing. Can’t help but assume . All I know is our intentions are pure trying to eat and purchase halal.
Am almost a vegetarian after seeing how badly animals were treated in corporate farms. This article is enough to want to stop eating meat totally till the cruelty and halal deception problems are addressed. May Allah Keep our earnings, dealings and food halal and accept our duas, ameen. Thank you for your investigations.
I’m portuguese and never heard of Halal food untill I emigrated to East Timor. It’s a Catholic country but with major respect for the Muslim community. The fact that I bought a halal chicken here and didn’t know what that meant, lead me to your article. Great content. Thanks for enlightening me about this subject.
Even with the “halal” certifications the fact that the animals are being stunned and are all kept together and can see each other being killed is problematic with what us muslims have been commanded on what is permissible to eat. This article really shows you, it went from you must say basmAllah to allowing the animal to be stunned. So many breaches yet we are blind. I beg of the ummah to reduce it’s consumption of meat and only consume the animals that are slaughtered on small scale authentic halal ways not the systematic butchering of animals with no regard for what Allah has commanded us.
I once worked as a private personal trainer for a couple of multi millionaire grocers in a major city, these two men did $250K a month in Halal meat sales, they confessed to me that none of the meat conformed to Halal regulations and that if they didn’t sell the meat someone else would. His words to me were, “It’s not hurting anyone, they still believe the meat is clean.” Life advice: Don’t trust anyone.
In Belgium I went to a Syrian restaurant ‘Palmyra’, I asked them if the meat is halal? They immediately nodded their heads that yes it is. Sadly, when it was time to order drinks, the waiter asked me which alcohol I would prefer, I found that question quiet odd as previously I had asked if the meat is halal or not. I told him I am Muslim, so he persisted that you can taste a little. At that point I had already eaten the meat. I knew at that moment that when they have no shame asking one to drink alcohol, there is no guarantee that the meat is halal.
Excellent and informative article. I’m not a Muslim and respect the rights and religious requirements of Muslims seeking Halal foods. I recall reading a story about 15 or 20 years ago about dodgy Halal certifiers selling certification to companies like KFC, etc. I hadn’t realised the industry was still unregulated and so open to corruption. I hope the industry gets the overhaul it requires to put all Muslims at peace, knowing the meat they purchase really is Halal.
(Im a revert) I’ve noticed when I go to markets in Nashville TN or even hamtramck in Michigan that it’ll say Halal but you’ll read ingredients and it’ll have nitrates and dies and MSG (monosodiumglutemate) which is HORRIBLE for you. I agree with the brother who mentioned in the comments. It should be shown what they are fed, living conditions and so on… i almaot find it counterintuitive to find Halal but its filled with posion…. i try to harvest most of my own meat now. Deer and squirrels. I plan on doing chickens soon. Maybe even goat. Insh’Allah …Asalam Aleikum
Very interesting… I’m brazilian and I’ve challanged myself to learn the Arab language just to prove to myself that I could do it since it seems so difficult, but their culture is amazing and passionate. Of course there is strong cultural differences between us tho. But that doens’t scares me. It’s all about undertanding the other.
Asalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu. I have been a butcher in local halal and mainstream halal meat shops. I realised many issues working there for nearly 10 years, I brought my concerns to local imams and students of knowledge here in UK. They said all meat produced in UK is classified as ahlul kitab which I found to be in the grey. Secondly, they responded saying buy halal meat from where you trust if the supplier promises halal process and their muslim by default you have to trust their word and if their lying the sin falls on them. Wallahu alam, this was me 3 years ago enquiring. Really happy you brothers have created awareness for this.
Thanks this was an interesting take on the application of Halal in modern markets. As a Muslim, I see Halal rules as being very strict and precise to encourage Muslims to only consume meat and those who eat it, in an Islamic manner at the very least, I believe, we should avoid consuming meat and animals altogether, at least when possible. With Halal all Muslims can stay on the right path as a Ummah.
We all must raise our voice, make phone calls, write to authority and demand that you want to visit their processing centre. The greatest worry is our own Muslim local authority to check their process of issuing the HALAL COMPLIANCE CERTIFICATE. It’s time to raise your voice and show your concern. URGENTLY URGENTLY URGENTLY
This has been a concern for many years, how the chicken is being slaughtered and some of the slaughterer whom don’t even pray. Muslims in Australia are quite divided by national flag they bear, hence the amount of halal certification bodies is not normal. Whenever you are in a muslim majority country, the one who issues a halal certification is one body of organization. We should put aside our differences and come to one thing that everyone can agree on, centralized the halal certification which oversee by each Muslim representation might be a solution.
This is so sad…what do we do?😔 This affects us all. We need more solutions asap. Speaking about myself too, maybe Muslims in Sydney can cut down on donating money for building a mosque in every suburb just for the time being. We can start donating towards some sort of project that could end up with a reliable,God-fearing, not money hungry group of Muslims buying an abattoir ? I dunno . Too confusing. There’s a lot of wealthy Muslims in the community too who have been very generous with other project donations. May allah reward you too. Maybe someone can take this idea and do something with it…🤲
Peace be upon you. Advice from a younger brother. To those who see my comment, do not leave your prayers. There are millions in the graves who wish they could come again to prostrate. And don’t let anyone precede a child’s memorization “Al-Fatihah” He will pray their entire life 💛 And do not forget to pray for us
Dear All Muslims, Ummah, our knowledgeable Scholars and Imams living in Australia, Please I request you all to stake a big stand, Australia believes in Freedom of live and respects people from all culture and Race, ethnicity and background, and yet this shocking news that people are unaware that majority of slaughterhouses are supplying non-halal meat and labeling them as halal. Please take a stand and let us all file a petition or raise our voice against this major issue. In Sha Allah, Ameen.
Baraka Allahu Fiykum, One Path Network! What better time than now to alert the Ummah about this situation. There’s so many controversies going on in the religion of Islam and we should make sure that we’re aware of what’s going on. I ask Allah to bless us and our families with a holy Ramadan. As Salamu Alaykum.
A friend of mine used to deliver meat to supermarkets. If the truck wasn’t a certain temperature when it arrived the whole load was rejected. So he was turned away and forced to find another buyer. Since happened more often than you’d think. He, while looking for an outlet to sell, found a supplier of Halal meat who would always buy it. So was this meat then sold as halal PROBABLY
Thank you for this enlightening article. We are having major issue around this subject in the UK. Over the last 3 months, I have significantly reduced my chicken intake and now in Ramadan, have completely ruled it out Inshallah. I have a piece of salmon every other day or a bit of red meat. May Allah give us strength to hold on to our faith.
I’m grateful for the investigation, this shows me the care and consideration for the food consumption for others & self. grateful for all of you & many others that are taking the food marketing production-products/items serious and to a healthy/honorable standpoint of halal aligned items to Vital Religious standards. 💚 May we all realign ourselves as best as possible and our food consumption in a safe & healthy manner as it’s necessary and impactful to our body mind soul & spirit
I am amazed perusal this article. I just realised many things about the Halal Industry. I didn’t so many things and it is vital to know everything happening inside as I am living in a secular country as UK. Thank you for informing me and the masses about the Halal industry. I will be cautious about verifying the Halal certification rather than just believing the logo itself.
I am Chinese living in Canada. I usually buy chicken, beef and lamb from my local halal meat shop. Because I know that animals must be alive and healthy at the time of slaughter and all blood is drained from the carcass during the slaughter process. That means quality meat. Especially no blood in the meat, that makes the meat tastes so much better compared to the meat sold in the western shops.
In Canada 🇨🇦 there is HMA certification, which is one the most reliable with the highest standards – they’re certifying a plant which is using gas stunning – stunning procedure they say varies from company to company(custom catered for this one) – and they’ve mandated unconscious to a certain degree while still alive. As per HMA, tests were performed where birds are stunned but alive which meets Halal requirements. You may check their site for more details.
I am a sheep producer and I had a Muslim family request to buy a lamb that they could slaughter on our farm for Halal purposes. I am a Christian but very supportive of other people and their own faiths so I had no issues with this, and before this article, I didn’t think Christians were allowed to slaughter for Halal. So the husband insisted to slaughter which I had no problem with because he said he had done it many times. I have slaughtered hundreds of animals with a knife only and I can kill very quick by cutting the throat only. I offered him my sharp long hunting knife but he refused and insisted he use a small pocket sized box cutter knife. I told him I would rather him use a proper knife designed for killing but he insisted he use his tiny box cutter. He then proceeded to face North with the lamb before killing it, not East. As I was trying to inform him that he was facing the wrong direction according to his religion, he began to painstakingly make little slices on the lambs throat, it took him a good 10 seconds to get the throat opened up to bleed while the lamb was writhing in pain. It was a terrible scene and I felt so bad because I knew if I had slaughtered the lamb it hardly would have felt a thing. I the Quran allows Christians to slaughter for Halal, why didn’t this Muslims put aside his pride and let an experienced sheep farmer Christian, slaughter his own lamb. And if I did it, the lamb would have been facing East, funny when a Christian can do a better job of Halal then a Muslim
A suggestion. You will need a central certification board and authority that issues strict requirements for halal certification and regulates the halal food industry from A to Z all throughout the country, such as the Malaysian Halal JAKIM. You should pay a visit to their offices sometime and learn up on how they do their stuff.
I am a vet. Honestly what I have witnessed by my own eyes in different slaughter houses (chicken, sheep and cattle) back in time when I was in my country which is an Islamic one too has made me confused about the quality of the meat we perceive as halal. I remember when we were children we grew up in another Muslim country. Our father back then used to buy live animals and hire a butcher for animal slaughtering and meat processing in our property because at some point he became suspicious about the purity of the meat from shops. I live in European country now with minor Muslim community where finding Halal meat is truly a struggle but at least more trusted since the suppliers mostly conduct the slaughtering by themselves. I think the way this world is formed into a big marketing pool racing to fulfill the increasing demands of ever-growing communities has messed up everything and made it hard for us to trust that anything we consume (edible or not) could be 100% humane and meet ethical and religious requirements!!
I think kosher and halal will just end up the way of the dodo. I’ve worked in a kosher kitchen and boy, I never worked with stinkier chicken. The practices are not respected because there is no discernable difference made to the meat. Kosher and halal don’t equate quality these days. Better off just buying locally raised/ organic for actually good quality meat.
Just like the article emphasizes, being Muslim is not just about obtaining a Halal certificate, it’s about the genuine intention and expertise behind the production of Halal products 💯. That’s why having Muslim experts in the field, like our team of AI and Islamic culture specialists, is crucial in creating authentic Halal products 🎯. We’re pioneering a new standard in Halal mentorship, combining Islamic values with cutting-edge technology, and taking on the social responsibility that comes with it 🌟. It’s not just about a label, it’s about the integrity and expertise that goes into creating products that align with Islamic principles 💕
Subhanallah I don’t know if there are other documentaries of this kind out there. If there is one for the USA that someone could share it would be very much appreciated. There is so little transparency when it comes to halal slaughterhouses. I pray Allah gives the Muslims his tawfeeq in complying with the limits of this deen. May Allah bless and reward all those who worked on this documentary. Aameen.
Assalamu Alaikum. Thank you for producing such a great article. To increase awareness in the wider Muslim communities, is it possible for One Path Network to pass the alarming message of this article to all masjids across Australia through the Imams and Sheikhs? In that way maybe the awareness and right actions from the consumers can be prompted and massive change will start from there InshaAllah. Jazaak Allah Khair.
I’m not a muslim, but it seems to me at least, that any meat production done on a industrial scale can’t be halal. How can the word of god be said before slaughter, with any sincerity in such a setting? It can’t… Honestly, factory meat production is a monstrosity, a literal hell that everyone looks away from…
It would be a shame to not talk about the “halalness” of the halal animal. Sh Hamza Yusuf talked about also being toyyib – pure. The animals are not being brought up properly and numerous injections mainly for profit. How can a chicken not brought up accordingly be treated unfairly still be halal? Such is a worrisome thing but money always talks
In light of the latest ANIC statement on CAS stunning, how should we act as cosumers? We can boycott poultry, yes, but we need to be more proactive. Myself and others would like to contribute to establish our own Islamic abattoirs. Can OnePath facilitate a new project, get the right people, investors, etc. to establish our own Australian halal compliant facilities?
This is another slap in the face to many Muslims. Many are being so particular of the halal, but they’re being negligence to the corruption practices. Even in a heavily regulated halal industry like in Malaysia, we have cases of meat cartel – whereby unscrupulous business imported non-halal meats disguised as halal meats for local consumption.
Where I come from in India, when an animal is slaughtered, the slaughterer allows the blood to completely drain off. This is the usual practice. If the animal is stunned or gassed, this would not be made possible because the blood is still trapped in the animal. No amount of cleaning later can facilitate the blood from coming out of the body. Therefore the customer will have cooked it and consumed it. In my place they don’t recite bismillah or anything when they slaughter. This is only done in the Muslim community.
101 O you who have believed, do not ask about things which, if they are shown to you, will distress you. But if you ask about them while the Qur’an is being revealed, they will be shown to you. Allah has pardoned that which is past; and Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing.Quran Verse (5:101)
I am glad even though I am Muslim. I am actually vegan. Not vegan as in packaged processed foods, but as in eating fruits, vegetables, whole grains, indian and Italian spices and making my meal what Allah has provided naturally that still today it grows from the ground up. The meat industry can never suffice to go 100% halal as there are billions of people in the world just buying meat and there is no way a man can say “Allahu Akbar” for each cow/chicken/goat/lamb coming to be slautered..
Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wabarakattuh. It’s good that you exposed the corruption in the meat industry which is to be honest disgusting especially non-halal meat and it’s affecting the halal industry. However, it is important to mention the importance of tayyib and an animal being treated well when it’s alive, which you didn’t enough to be honest. I hope to insha’allah provide widespread halal AND tayybib meat for muslims and stop this disgusting abuse of animals
I worked closely with Halal restaurants in Malaysia, the standards are fine but the implementation, from my perspective, is full of loopholes and corruptions. In order to get Halal certification from JAKIM, your kitchenware and appliances have to be from “those” companies, which are significantly more expensive than you usual commercial counterparts. Also, some ingredients that are not possibly to be produced in “Haram” manners also have to be purchased from the “Halal” suppliers or JAKIM will come and raid your kitchen for this particular reason. Who are behind those companies and suppliers? you know, those who set the standards.
Daily Reminder: Try to supplicate this dua every single day to become a habit. 1. Dua That Guarantees You Forgiveness (Sahih Al-Bukhari) Prophet Muhammad SAW (PBUH) said: “Whoever gets up at night and says: La ilaha ‘illa Allaahu, wahdahu la shareeka lahu lahul mulku, wa lahul hamdu, wa huwa ala kulli shayin qadeer. Subhana allaahi, wal hamdu lillaahi, wa la illaaha ila Allaah, wa Allaahu akbar, waLa hawla wa la quwwata illa billaah. There is none worthy of worship in truth except Allah Alone, He has no partners, He has the Dominion and for Him is all praise, and He is capable of all things, praise is for Him, and Far is Allah from imperfection, and There is none worthy of worship in truth except Allah, and Allah is the Greatest, there is no capability nor is there any power except with Allah. “Then he says: Allaahumma aghfirlee. O Allah forgive me! Or he supplicates and his supplication is answered, and if he makes Wudhu and prays, then his prayer is accepted. 2. Dua That Guarantees You Jannah (Sahih Al-Jami, An-Nasa’i, Ibn Hibban) Prophet Muhammad SAW (PBUH) said: “Whoever recites Ayatul Kursi, verse 255 from chapter number 2, Surat Al Baqarah after every obligatory prayer, then nothing is stopping him or her from entering Jannah, except one thing: Death.” 3. Dua That Wipe Away Sins (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Muslim, At-Tirmidhi) Prophet Muhammad SAW (PBUH) said: “Whoever says: Subhana allaahi, wa bihamdih How far from imperfections Allah is, and I praise Him. “a hundred times during the day, his sins are wiped away, even if they are like the foam of the sea.
its always easier to expose the negative and later leave people in distraught and confusion, rather than providing a solution. So the whole evidence is based off an interview with a slaughterhouse employee, opinions from some known halal food owners in the industry and an imam who I just got to know after 20 years in Australia. Interesting… why the halal food owners ?? Just so we can instead buy their products instead and start trusting THEIR halal food certification. Overall its a good article with a slight taste of hyprocrisy and business promotion. End with good advise and a subtle message ” YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN” I can conclude…..HALAL FEAR MONGERING on high quality article. Congratulations!!!!
Assalaamualaikum this is such an important topic, thank you for sharing this documentary. I would love to use this article as reference and share for knowledge. I noticed there is some soft music in the background of this article, is there a version without music that has been published / can be published?
Assalmualikum brother, that’s a very good step you guys get, jajak Allah khair. Yes i had always doubt when i used to eat meat from halal chicken factory and some other place with halal logo on it. At last i got my answer. May Allah save us from this delusional and evil people who only after money and sale products in the name of halal and playing game in terms of sensitive issues.
Lovely article. Not a muslim myself but i love that halal gives respect to the animal whilst beeing slaughtered by ensuring least pain and dedicating it to Allah. In light of the animal having the least amount of pain one could consider the gas killing to be least painfull and therefor, allthough not specifically specified in the koran, could be halal.
So no eating chicken in Australia, and only buying meat from local Muslim butcher houses that slaughter and butcher their own meat. If there are none, then buy from a reputable halal certified shop (No chicken though) Or be like us, buy the chicken alive and then slaughter it yourself or by a butcher. Here if the chicken was not alive 2-4 hours before serving them on plates, then ppl will throw it away. (for beef it’s 12-16 hours)
Why not send muslim men to slaughter houses for halaal zibah process alone:Only slitting the neck with jugular cut as per sharia, and uttering Bismillahi Allahu Akbar. This should make the slaughter halaal. They can do this as honorary- without pay or least pay. And then after the animal has died, rest all procedures may be carried out by any person- washing, sanitising, packing, etc is secondary.
It is sad but there are unscrupulous people involved in religions worldwide. If there is money to be made, these people will appear from under their rocks… Moslems in Australia must form a certification beareau, similar to South Africa. Hopefully this idea will help because the government will do nothing to help muslims.
I’ve always said it, half century ago.. ..that manufacturing and its endeavor will destroy or stain what halal means.. This system we’re in is making a mockery of the truth to the Faith.. But many will argue it’s salary; food for my family; we must evolve or die hungry.. I say atleast, those that walk the path know who they are when they died. Unlike the pretentious who claim only to be shocked at judgement.. ..and “each to their own” is a term used for excuses here on earth, try that when your facing your worth on scales..
I hope there will be a certification for jatka certification as well.. that way people can choose non halal meat as well.. The basic requirement should be that the meat should not have origin from any pizlamic country and not touched by any Muiilim in the processing and should be only sold at non Muiilim Store
This article explained to me the rules and principals of Halal slaughter. My understanding is that respect and causing the animal the least amount of distress and pain was the principle for the founding of the practice. This was at a time when when the alternative to a sharp knife would probably be clubbing to death or something equally barbaric. If modern humane methods had been available at the time according to the principles they would have been adopted.
I have only one thing to say to these religious leaders and their delusions. (10:59) Say, “Did you note how GOD sends down to you all kinds of provisions, then you render some of them unlawful, and some lawful?” Say, “Did GOD give you permission to do this? Or, do you fabricate lies and attribute them to GOD?”
This as a non Muslim is something I had a bad feeling about for a while. I work in Nyc and one time I ordered food from a supposed Halaal cart for lunch. Much to my dismay I saw him cooking it right next to pork bacon. I asked him why is he doing that it is not halaal when mixed with pork to which he said he always does this. Never ordered there again. As far as this article is concered they should show the faces and names the names of the people and companies involved in these actions forget anonymity and expose them all and forget country law. We abide by Islamic Law.
This makes me genuinely believe that there are almost no real Halal butcheries left in the West. Western laziness and complacency has caused the work ethic to decrease and cost cutting/corner cutting to increase which has led to decreased quality. It would be a community service for someone to truly process Halal goods for the Muslim community, huge profitability as well.
Blood is Haram, (except liver and spleen). All red meats in markets, whether Halal or not, are full of excess blood. This means that the animal’s blood was NOT properly and totally drained after slaughter. This is done under the pretext of keeping the meat juicy. This is totally untrue. It is simply a way of cheating by leaving the meat drenched with blood in order to increase its weight, hence its price. This programme overlooked this MAJOR flaw in the Halal industry specifically and in the meat industry in general.
This is so sad to watch. Its no wonder that its so hard to stay healthy and be fit even with a healthy diet. I moved from Africa almost a decade ago and im glad im moving to Malaysia. People back home don’t consume as much fruit and veggies as here but most are fit, healthy and strong. Thank you for exposing this major problem. I shall not be eating chicken henceforth or feeding it to my family. My suggestion to you is that you develop an app where you list the authentic halal certified stores and restaurants because as consumers we cant tell which one is authentic halal or fake halal. The Qadi needs to demand that atleast one person from the halal industry is posted in every farm supplying Muslims to oversee if they follow the rules or bend them and this cannot be a one time in a year inspecting thing. It has to be a permanent post where the person reports for duty daily and takes notes. Subhanallah, its no wonder that kids are going astray as well. How can one expect their kids to turn out well when they are fed haraam food? May Allah protect us from this deceptive world. I for one have had enough and im doing hijra for the sake of Allah. The app would be very helpful for my husband who will be returning for work.
Mmmm all food is clean biblically.. what I would like to understand is why eat halal food and yet I know and see Muslim men practically entering promises of prostitution? And running prostitution young ones from universities around the country? Is that haram. I also witnessed the treasurer from the local mosque in barclays bank placing a large sum of cash in front of the cashier she asked where did you get this He replied from the casino I’m not exaggerating I’m being honest ..is this haram.I live in a Muslim town I have young Muslim men involved in drug selling is that haram? I have abused battered Muslim women in the area is that haram ? There is Muslim men serving crimes in prison but yet go about halal that doesn’t make sense if they are concerned about being holy ?.
I remember when they were selling what in the UK was known as ‘Dutch water chicken’ where they put 100kg of chicken in these big Dutch spinning machines that injected water and 200kg came out the other side..Only the water injected had a pork protien in it so the water binds to the meat better and holds the weight. Then it was packaged and sold in cash n carry outlets as halal chicken….

Thanks for the article. In all the years we lived in Australia we never bought any so called halal meat or chicken because of these reasons. When we had the opportunity we bought the animal and slaughtered it ourselves. We also did research and found Jewish man with a chicken slaughter factory in the liverpool area and the guy was actually slaughtering the chickens the halal way (for them Kosher with a JewishPriest), so we used to go and slaughter our own chickens. Also can you talk about the process of the chicken being dunked into hot water and so the feathers can be easier removed? JazakAllah Khayran.
The suffering of animals raised for meat consumption is utterly barbaric whichever human group is involved — housed in unnatural conditions where they’re crowded together, no fresh air, feet resting on metal grates for much of their short miserable lives, and then a cruel slaughter. Sadly, Muslims are oblivious to the suffering of these sentient beings that have a heart, liver, kidneys, eyes, brain, etc, just like us humans — and just like humans they feel pain and sadness, yet are bred in the trillions upon trillions to be gorged upon. Became a vegetarian. Can’t stand the suffering of these beautiful souls, or the barbarity inflicted on them.
Money is starting to corrupt, then doubt will begin. They seek individuals who are will to look the other way, for money. Then the money will be used to break the community. So you are the last stronghold, the culture. You have to hold them accountable. Or you will slowly become weak enough for money to rule your land.
It’s not just the halal industry that have been tainted but also the processes in Sharia governance. Many people especially those who needed assistance for any Sharia documents such as for marriage and divorce are being used by the imams or the so called Islamic religious for money making business. They ask money and it’s not just small amount just to process documents which doesn’t need much for processing. It’s a shame for people with titles in Islam to be doing so.
just a little info that they leave out -halal meat also means that they have to cut the throat of the animal having it to bleed out (draining) from dying in such a manner, in the west we electricute the animal for a quick and swift death so it suffers the least possible way. – nowhere in quran does it state meat HAS to be halal for it to be consumed, it only just means that it’s blessed, Allah has forbidden Muslims to eat animals that did not die as the result of man, contain blood, are pigs, or have been sacrificed to another god (Qur’an 2: 173). AKA no road kill, death by animal, instant consumption. it’s also proven that death through a halal method makes an animal suffer longer then that is necessary in this day and age, it might have been a less sufferable method 200 years ago but we have the technology to do better now. – also reciting a ritual before killing something? sacrificial much?
This is what the Quran says (5:5) Today, all good food is made lawful (Halal) for you. The food of the people of the scripture is lawful (Halal) for you. Also, you may marry the chaste women among the believers, as well as the chaste women among the followers of previous scripture, provided you pay them their due dowries. You shall maintain chastity, not committing adultery, nor taking secret lovers. Anyone who rejects faith, all his work will be in vain, and in the Hereafter he will be with the losers. (5:87) O you who believe, do not prohibit good things that are made lawful (halal) by GOD, and do not aggress; GOD dislikes the aggressors. (6:145) Say, “I do not find in the revelations given to me any food that is prohibited for any eater except: carrion, running blood, the meat of pigs, for it is contaminated, and the meat of animals blasphemously dedicated to other than GOD.” If one is forced (to eat these), without being deliberate or malicious, then your Lord is Forgiver, Most Merciful.
Halal and Kosher laws are very similar. As neither a Jew nor Muslim I’m not sure on all the rules regarding each. I believe in a creator God and the general premise of most Abraham religion. I am an avid ethical hunter. I have talked to a pair of Rabbis before that actually had a controversial ideas regarding hunting. They supported it but had many conditions as to the cuts of meat. Certainly no pork. As firearms did not exist at the formation of these religions including Christianity. They believe that a properly placed bullet followed gods plan. They said most Rabbis would disagree with them and they said that the other Rabbis were certainly entitled to their beliefs. I’ve always wondered how Muslims regard hunting and eating game. A Wild goat, fowl or otherwise halal animal but killed in the wild with a gun. Or how about an arrow with a broadhead blade designed to slice the throat of the prey. Personally I believe that God looks favorably towards the manner in which I harvest my meals. My deer, elk, rabbit, pheasant, grouse meat, as well as beef that I raised myself that is never stunned and I use a 12 gauge slug. Grass fed happy cows. It’s a spiritual connection I have with the purity if nature and God and the animal. Respecting our respective parts under the creators plan. It’s something that a non hunter or even a hunter that lacks morality would understand. To any Muslim that that answers my question والسلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته نعمة من الله. شكرا لك على مساعدتك. Actually that extends to all Muslims even if you cannot give me an opinion of Halal and Hunting.
Yes Imam, you can do one thing – STOP expecting a western country to cater your needs and START living in a muslim country OR Start a muslim governed animal farm/factory and so you have the total control of ensuring all animals are slaughtered in Halal way PROBLEM SOLVED Does anyone disagree with me?
Sorry guys but Halal certification isn’t just about meats anymore. It’s pervading products that don’t require certification as they are naturally Halal. It’s being placed on kitchen cleaning chemicals, womens make up & sanitary products & in Indonesia it’s being placed on kitchen white goods like microwaves, fridges & freezers. Complaining that meat processing isn’t being done to Islamic requirement is a cop out – a compromise had to be reached regarding animal welfare in Australia or else there is backlash from the relevant animal welfare groups. Another blight on you article is featuring another Imam who only speaks Arabic. In 2022 it’s about time the Imams in Australia were Australians who speak English. You’re right about one thing HALAL CERTIFICATION industry is unregulated, dodgy and a global money making racket.
This us shocking being an Halal Inspector in the USA. I’ve been in the poultry business 15 years or more 9 years as an Halal Inspector. I’ve heard of gas stunning but never here in the US all major poultry producers use electronic stunning as a Halal Inspector I do reverse life tests where randomly pick birds after stunning to see if the bird recovers in the allowed time.
I recently decided to increase my plant based nutrition. Of course, Allah swt made some meat permissible, and there are some benefits to natural meats… but this article only makes me want to go more Vegan(ish). Unless I SEE the animal being slaughtered in a halal way and I know that they were pasture raised and treated with kindness…. I’ll just stick to plant based proteins. As for fish… I have seen so many documentaries about how horrid farmed fish are and how they also have ruined the ecosystem to increase disease for wild fish. Sure… one can also mention how there are pesticides on plants…. but some of these animals have cancer and bacteria that cooking doesn’t kill off. No thank you. May Allah swt continue to provide and protect us.
I was eating meat from non halal stores because I used to think they slaught their animals and the religion of USA is Christianity so I can say besmillah and cook, but I felt uncomfortable while consuming this meat so I searched for halal stores to get my meats from, which is sometimes double or even more than usual prices, it’s really confusing astghfrallah
Quran himself is 80 % about people who were not Muslims, didn’t know Shahade, didn’t pray 5× / day or gave Zakat ! So,what’s big deal, slathering animals in any way to satisfy human thurst is questionable altogether! Question corruption of muslim leaders is more challenging than industry which was corrupt as idea from very beginning!
Halal is a process to ensure job reservation for muslims in workplace And economic sanctions on non-muslim made products. Halal certification requires that 25% of workplace employ muslims. Halal is for all products – not just meat. Halal boycott of non-muslim products, Jaziya tax on non-muslims and Jihad is how Islam grew.
haraam means something NOT honestly earn. Haalal means opposite. Taking a life of an animal with or without cruelty can be called Halaal? So what is haaraam?….in Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Kabeer ji said “kabeer jeea jo maarehi jor kar kehathae hehi j halaal || Kabir, they who kill the beings perforce and call that righteous. dhafathar dhee jab kaadt hai hoeigaa koun havaal ||199|| When the Lord would take out the account of His office, what shall their condition be?
I think halal is more than just meat. The modern definition of halal’ I don’t think is right.. It’s all food. It says in the Qur’an that food should be wholesome and good. Some of these food preservatives are known carcinogens would I consider them good or wholesome? No…. Ask any dietician or doctor about Ultra processed food. Do they think it’s healthy for you? No… If something is known to cause harm. It’s Haram. That’s the blessing of Islam. Forbidding anything harmful.
Many big outlets like Costco, Sams Clubs, Restaurant depo here in Cali. US do import Halal meat from Australia. I would personally advice to shop around with local slaughter stores or do visit the nearest slaughter place or get it slaughter themself(which is the best). Some restaurant/Business do serve Zabiha halal as well which is little expensive over machine cut Halal(which i ‘personally’ don’t consider Halal at all)
I’m from Pakistan (a fanatically Muslim country), and non of these sharia laws are practiced always, especially in large-scale butcheries. Islam copied everything from Judaism or Mosiac law which only say to make sure that an animal bleeds completely before you cut its head off. Islamic sharia laws were good, but only for the 1400 years old deserts of Arabs and are man-made and that’s why can never be universal or even timeless. and just like a halal meet, every Islamic law is outdated. this is the difference between God’s law and man’s law.
One thing in this article that they will Never tell you is the actual process of Halal Slaughter, They hang the animals upside down and drain the animals blood whilst the animal can feel everything and then dies in extreme pain, Halal Slaughter is Animal Cruelty and the way they treat the animals is Animal Abuse. No one has the right to treat any living thing with such disregard, One of the men in this article started, Muslims should demand Halal meat, my reply to this is If you want to do halal then do it on yourself and NOT POOR DEFENCELESS ANIMALS.
If you are in doubt buy from jews and christian. It’s in the Seerah that Prophet Muhammad PBUM ate from the Jews and Christians when he PBUM was invited and did not ask any question regarding how it was slaughtered. Problem solved by our Prophet PBUM or if you are still in doubt make the hijrah to another land.
Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. 1John 4:3 KJV The bible teaches that Islam is a antichrist religion.
It’s not that Muslims aren’t concerned, it’s that the price will rise accordingly if the industry becomes fully compliant with halal standards. Yes, the vegan, etc. industries comply with what vegans, etc. want but they are also willing to pay the higher prices that such specialized standards require. Stop being hypocritical about this. Until Muslims are willing to pay a fair price for the extra standards to be met, the same as other specialized industries require, Muslims cannot complain if the industry cheats. Until Muslims are willing to pay extra for the reduced production of halal compliance within your area (when shipped abroad, those markets are already paying the higher price, so of course the industry is willing to provide those higher standards!) then you really can’t complain. “You get what you pay for” holds true everywhere. Until then, be glad you have what you do. In some places of the world (like many areas of America) halal food, on any level, is impossible to even find unless you butcher animals yourself, so these are your choices, pay up or shut up and butcher your own meat. At least you still have a choice. The people putting this article out must be simply trying to stir up trouble since they don’t give this simple, and only available solution to changing the industry-cry out for change, sure, but assure the industry that you’ll pay, that they can still turn their profits. Don’t expect any big industry, even a Muslim one, to be motivated by anything besides their greed, so speak to that or stop wasting everyone’s time and efforts and don’t compare halal industries to vegan, etc.
In the UK the halal slaughter houses play a cd of the islamic prayer at the start of the shift and then turn on the machines !!! . The slaughter is automated and the labour force is kept to a minimum !!. The frozen chicken is coming from a big company from the Netherlands !!. They just stamp a halal stamp on the box !!! The chicken is injected with water mixed with pork fat !!!. In Birmingham UK a Pakistani firm were buying meat condemned for cat and dog food and washing the red dye off with pressure washers !!! That chicken was then supplied to kebab shops !!!. The halal industry is fake and it’s all about money !!! The people who own these firms do not give a damn about halal !!!!
I once had a muslim colleague who’s always talking about Halal meat, etc. bragging about his body being clean as he only eats Halal. I once asked him how he’s sure the meat he’s eating is halal. I told him you didn’t see the slaughter, you don’t know the person who slaughtered the animal etc. He said there’s a stamp that says Halal. I asked him back, that’s just a stamp, how would you know it’s really Halal? He said they should not stamp it with Halal if it was not slaughtered the Halal way,it’s forbidden. I asked him again, well they shouldn’t but they can isnt? They can cheat isnt? You shouldn’t masturbate as it’s haram, but inside your room nobody knows if you’re masturbating or not, so there’s a way for you to masturbate and just claim that you’re not masturbating at all. He never talked to me again afterwards. Apparently there’s a strong reliance on the Halal stamp without even realising it could be fraudulently stamped Halal. It’s like the scam with stamps like “organjc”, free range, responsibly sourced, carbon neutral, vegetarian fed, etc. the only way for you to ensure a meat is Halal is if you did the slaughter yourself or have witnessed the slaughter. Don’t get me wrong, I’m also a pro Halal meat, I wanna eat meat from an animal raised and slaughtered the more humane way. But let’s face it, it’s very difficult to find a truly Halal meat if you’re just buying commercially. Almost impossible. Many meat shops claimed to be halal but they’re halal when somebody is observing, behind closed doors, they’re not.
I’ve been thinking of something like this ever since I learned of animal factories— why not adopt a non-vicious way of preparing animals for consumption…. I didn’t think it had a name 😅 I didn’t think there was a system like that until youtube recommended this article to me. It feels like I need to examine and look at things and systems at different perspectives from now on lol. I also don’t understand how why a humane system gets ridiculed… Why? Is there more to this halal? I don’t see anything wrong with it.
