How Did Gohan Become Spiritual?

Mystic Gohan, officially known as Ultimate Gohan, is a powerful Saiyan transformation that surpasses Super Saiyan Blue. It is achieved by Gohan after his potential is unlocked by Elder Kai, who performs a ritual that allows him to tap into his hidden potential, giving him a massive power boost. This form is stronger than his current strongest form Super Saiyan 2, and Gohan’s alter ego, the Great Saiyaman, was created as a disguise for his true identity during his school days in Satan City.

Gohan’s Ultimate form is a powerful transformation that gives him the same level as Super Saiyan 2, but without the strain. Gohan gains access to the Ultimate form while training on the Supreme Kai’s planet, accidentally freeing the imprisoned Elder Kai from the Z Sword. To thank him for freeing him, the Elder Kai spends over 20 hours undergoing a bizarre ritual to unlock Gohan’s full potential, granting him the Ultimate transformation.

Gohan’s “Mystic” form is a form where base Gohan gains access to his full potential of his hypothetical Super Saiyan 3 without transforming into one. Ultimate Mode, also called Ultimate Gohan, is a transformation achieved by Son Gohan after Elder Kaiōshin unlocked his potential. Once the ritual is complete, Elder Kaioshin tells him to activate Ultimate by turning SSJ. Gohan uses the SSJ power and turns fully Ultimate.

Mystic Gohan allows Gohan to reach 100 of his potential, which means it can grow stronger as Gohan grows. The reason why Mystic/Ultimate Gohan didn’t transform into a SSJ is because he no longer can. If he knew Hirudegarn, the fact he turns SS is a contradiction as Mystic was supposed to eliminate the need for SS.
