Pyromancies are fire-based magic spells that can be cast with Flames and the White Hair Talisman. They can be obtained, used, and upgraded in Dark Souls 3, including their damage, resistance, and description. To cast pyromancies, you need a pyromancy flame (for pyromancies), a catalyst for sorceries (can be bought from Rickert in New Londo), or a talisman for micracles (can be obtained from fat guy in Firelink). A pyromancy hand is required, which you get in the tutorial if you start as a Pyro.
To use pyromancies, you must equip a glove in your right hand, put a spell in the attunement slot, ensure the spell has at least one use available, and use it as if you were attacking. Power Within is a self-buff pyromancy that boosts strength, endurance, and attack power but drains HP over time.
Pyromancies can be equipped with the Pyromancy Flame or Dark Pyromancy Flame. Once you have equiped your spell and the Pyromancy Flame, you can cast the spell using a normal attack. The amount of damage a Pyromancy spell deals is not tied to any specific stat (unlike Faith for Miracles and Intelligence for Sorcery).
Pyro spells have a dark/brown background and can be cast by switching to the Pyromancy Flame and using a light attack. To fully upgrade a Pyromancy Flame, it costs an arm and a leg, but once upgraded, any character with any build can equip it and become a full-blown Pyro spell.

Quick video where I go over pyromancy. Extremely good spellcasting, although the damage isn’t as high as intelligence.
📹 Dark Souls 3 – How to Use Spells – How to Cast Miracles, Sorceries & Pyromancies in Dark Souls 3
Let’s Learn How to Use Spells in Dark Souls 3 – When I first started playing, I had no idea how to cast miracles, sorceries or …
Fun Fact: you can almost beat every boss in this game with exclusively pyromancies. Like you mentioned, Quelaag, ceaseless discharge, centipede demon, and the bed of chaos are all immune to fire. Of those 4, ceaseless discharge and the bed of chaos have instant kill methods that rely on the number of damage ticks rather than the amount of damage. Black Flame does a small amount of physical damage and has enough casts to kill both of these bosses. The centipede demon is weak to both poison and toxic, and when his AI cooperates can be toxic’d with just 1 cast of toxic mist. You can also get 6 total casts of poison mist on a given playthrough. As long as you’re willing to wait the upwards of 10 minutes, centipede demon can be killed with just the status effects i.e. only the pyromancies That just leaves Quelaag….. She has way too much health for black flame to matter, is immune to poison, and while she CAN be toxic’d due to a woopsie by the devs, the toxic mist pyromancy is locked behind her as you need to purchase it from Eingyi. But even if you glitch your way passed her(or attempt this strat after a couple new game+ cycles to give yourself enough casts), she only takes status buildup on her human form and the cast animation for the mists is very wonky,(and even if you get the hitbox right I don’t think your 1 cast is enough to toxic her). Quelaag is literally the only roadblock to a true pyro only run
There’s no reason not to upgrade pyromancy all the way if you’re at least going to get some Attunement slots. All you have to do is at least get to blighttown/ dark moon garden to get the door opened up in dark root garden and meet quelana in blight town. Once you do they just keep running into the garden and let those npcs follow you and jump off. Grind that for a couple hours and you’ll be able to get the pyromancy upgraded all the way and be able to buy all the pyromancys and use what you can depending on your Attunement lvl. You can easily do this after you ring the bell of awakening as a new player
This is my first run & I messed up big time. The guy in the barrel went hallow & I found him in blight town & had to fight him. I didn’t really pay much attention to the hand throughout my game so far it’s only at 4 & I feel like I’m in a decent chunk of the game. So, now that chick isn’t there on the pillar to get those cool ass spells. Idk what to do.
I can’t watch this article. I’m sure there’s good info, but just a bit past a minute into it, you’re spoiling so many later bosses. A pyromancy guide is naturally going to be targeted at beginners. I’m sure many of us are coming here after Quelaag and meeting her sister (unlocking the Chaos Fireball). Something to consider for future articles.
I have finished the game and I don’t know how to do it, first time playing dark souls game i must be stupid, I don’t understand the infusion thing in the game hahaha i have dark sword but I didn’t noticed anything, I would love someone to give me tips before i start NG+ (Edited : also am lvl 160 ) 😬
Hi! Great guide. Noob question: I’m trying to do a combination of Pyro and Faith build for my NG+. You said that increasing the attunement stat will increase the number of spell attunenment slots. So would you happen to know at what value of attunement I’ll be able to open an extra attunement slot? I want to be able to switch between Great Chaos Fire Orb and Lightning Spear without having to attune spells at a bonfire, hehe.
