I’m 1963 I married a very special man who was also named Ray. We had barely been married for 10 years when I lost him to brain cancer. He was only 37 years old. But he left me with three precious gifts. A young girl of 9 years, another girl of 6 years and a boy of 4 years. Ray was a faithful man, my two girls married faithful men and I have 6 granddaughters all married to faithful men. I’m 78 years old now and I live with my beautiful oldest daughter and her lovely husband. They take such good care of me and spoil me rotten. I’m sooo truly blessed. 😇😇😇🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I married a Ray, but his name is George. i met him through a friend three days latter we went on a date by ourselves. told my friend i’m going to marry him one day. I was 16 and now we have been married for 61 years. yes the 16 is not a typeo best movie i have seen in years. my George has dementia now and didn’t remember who I am . but every time i change his solid dipper he say thank you for taking care of me. ” for richer for poorer in sickness and health ” we are still married and in love. thank you God for my George.
I didn’t want this movie to end! I’ll be married 10 years this April and my husband is still just as sweet and kind and Ray was. Gentle and would do anything to make me happy. He is a Christian and seeks to love me as Christ loves His church. Ray was such a beautiful example of Jesus who loves with a selfless, consistent love. Beautiful movie! Definitely rewatching!
I had an aunt during this time in history that found herself pregnant. There were no options. She knew she could not have the baby and raise it on her own. My great uncle ( unrelated) found out and offered to marry her. She was a beautiful woman. He treated her with great respect and they never had any further children. She died early but her daughter was treated very well by all the family.
This is really “The Magic of Ordinary Days”, I love how calm the film is, how meaningful the dialogues are, how humane the story is. Everything is so simple and so powerful. I’ve watched this many times but still love it. People love Ray for his kind heart, but I think Ray’s sister is also a generous woman with a positive energy, she was kinda shocked when Livy wanted to leave, but never judged her at all. Everything is perfect and this is one of the best films I’ve ever watched. Thank you so much for sharing <3
I married a’ Ray’.when we met i was coming out of a very complicated long relationship that left me never the same.i was messed up emotionally and all other ways..but i married him still, when i look back i realise i took a huge risk, it could have been disastrous.I must say that after 8 years of marriage i appreciate him ever more for being patient, respectful, loving, kind and so humble all these years.at times i feel i dont deserve him but am thankful that he endured the complications .he taught me by his actions and kind words to emulate him and try to love him if not the same but similar with my imperfections.. Il be forever thankful for experiencing true love with my husband
This is so relatable. Marrying someone initially not in love with and then realizing how good they are to you, you can’t help but love them. ❤️ Love how this movie reveals such a deep truth, without all the garbage. Real men like this do exist, they desire a woman’s happiness and want to deeply love her like she deserves. It’s a feeling so beautiful, one only feels unworthy of such goodness.
I had been married to a boy I grew up with for 6 years. It was a big mistake from the first. I stayed for 8 long years. I was single for 5 years when I prayed and asked God to send me the man who He knew was right for me. Two weeks later I met Mr. Right. We married a year later and 33 years later he is still my gift from God and I still thank Him for this man every day.
A truly lovely movie. As I imagine my parents lives, before my father went to war in 1941. The farm, family, the measured pace of life bisected by the Great Depression and W.W.2. Noticed she had nylon stockings, during the war that was a great luxury. Kerri Russell is one of the great beauties of cinema. I like the awkwardness of their relationship at 1st. Two very different people trying to make a life.
How could I not know about this film before? The story is just so sweet and Ray, good god, is unbelievably wonderful. I couldn’t help but cried when he said ” and I love that baby”. I guess if Livy had not already fallen for him before unknowingly, she would at that moment! I’ll definitely watch this movie over and over.
This movie has touched me so much! Most of all, his positive spirit (face to a woman with a past and with no apparent intentions of having a true marriage with him), his generosity, his forbearance and his gentleness! Due to all these, he finally made her love him! I was never like that in my relationships and that ‘s a big lesson for me… The second thing that was unexpected, is that he (with no studies, cultural and social status, no experiences on love affairs, as she has) appears in the beginning as a simple farmer with no value at all, but on the course of the events, proves to be more confident than her!
I was brought up in a dysfunctional middle-class family with authoritarian parents whom LOVE as in this movie was completely absent. I realized much later in life that even my parents never experienced LOVE in their families either and that gave me solace and peace in my old age to be grateful after all. This movie brought lot of tears to my eyes and wish I had some of the LOVE when I was growing up. I am not complaining and actually been blessed throughout my life, however, missed lots hugs, kisses and encouragements when I was younger.
I don’t like how Abby was going to start terrible rumors and lies about Ray. I love how Livvy defended him, and told Abby that she couldn’t do that. Abby wanted Livvy for her own selfish reasons, because her husband was sent to war and she was lonely. I really enjoy perusal her love for him grow a little bit more each time, and after she got the ring, a simple diamond, that was just for her made her realize that the love he had for her was real, and genuine. perusal her give birth and name their son after Rays and Martha’s brother was very heartwarming. But when Ray started singing to Daniel, I bawl every time.
The magic of a beautiful film. The movie stays with you as the viewer in taken on the journey with Ray and Livvy. Skeet Ulrich and Keri Russell’s performances are subtle but powerful. Each showing compassion for the other as they navigate getting to know each other under uncomfortable circumstances. Livvy is surprised by Ray’s innate wisdom and touched by his gentleness and kindness. Ray’s horizons are expanded while learning about the interests and dreams of Livvy. Great performances. Can’t imagine another actor representing Ray better than Skeet Ulrich. His performance is magical.
When I’m a young girl Sometimes I wonder and think about good men in my thoughts, because while I’m growing up i didn’t witness a 100% MAN. My father, uncles and grandfather were good people but not as good as a man portrayed in this movie. To my surprise I found a genuine man in my life who is my Husband ☺️ I’m so grateful to the universe for letting him in my life. Now we are going to be parents 🥹 if I gave birth to a baby boy I’ll raise him like Mr. Ray, it’s easier for me because I have a good man besides me❤🧿
I fell in love with this movie when it was first broadcast in 2005, and I’ve been hoping to see it come up on YouTube. Thank you so much for posting! It’s a wonderful story (I’ve now also read the book), and the all the actors are perfectly cast. It’s one case in which I think the movie is even better than the book, thanks to the wonderful chemistry between Keri Russell and Skeet Ulrich, as well as a few extra scenes in the movie that don’t appear in the book. This is my very favorite Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, ever!
My great grandmother was pregnant when she married my great grandfather. Her mum put out an ad in the newspaper in Germany for someone to marry her daughter. She was 17 and pretty and my great grandfather needed a wife so he offered to marry her. He loved her and treated her well, but she resented him for taking her to Australia and away from her family, she had many affairs and her third child ended up being the baby of their Italian neighbour (he looks very Italian haha it was very obvious who his dad was) she ended up leaving him and taking her youngest child back to Germany. He never spoke badly of her and they ended up as friends as time passed. When my nan got pregnant at 17 outside of marriage my great grandfather said she didn’t have to get married he said he would support them. He also said that she didn’t have to put up her baby for adoption (which was absolutely radical at the time) women often had their babies taken without their consent because they were unmarried. In the end my grandmother married my grandfather but she was always so grateful that her dad gave her the choice.
For me one of the most interesting things in this film is the photography…it matches perfectly to the title. It says ordinary days… and the images are simple, ordinary, commom scenes of a normal daily life. The scene in which they”re having lunch shows it very well…simple, commom, ordinary, extraordinary, MAGIC!, Just love it since the first time I’ve watched it… it’s been a couple of times already…haha
I claim this blessings too. To get married to the most handsome and happiest man on earth, who would count his blessings one by one and find it raving and so honoured to have me as a wife. And we would both love one another to the deepest and thank Abba for blessing us both with our children and a faithful and glorious family in Him. And I would not stop smiling abd thanking God for finally putting a smile on my face forever till he calls me home ❤❤❤❤.
I’m obsessed with this film! I found it 3 days ago and I’ve lost count how many times I’ve seen it! The book is on order too lol!!! Can’t wait to read it & compare it to the film. I love so much about it, one of the best is when she’s in labour & says “getting ready for OUR baby”. She burnt her locket & was ready and relieved when Ray arrived! Great film!!! ❤
Loved the movie! such love without judgement from Ray or his family! The sibling love between Ray and his sister! You see the different aspects of characters in the movie, like REAL life…Livy’s sister, selfish, Ray’s sister unconditional love for her brother and her familly, the respect of spouses for their difference interests in life….beautiful movie, thank you!
Key line..” you will forgive yourself ” that is the whole issue. Love and forgiveness. We can’t carry our own guilt. If we do it makes us miserable, irritable, and unlikable. We need to give it to God..” come to me, all you that are heavy laden and i will give you rest..” only he can take it from us and free us from the past. True true true. Thank you for this honest movie..what it was like during ww2…for those of us left behind, while our loved ones went off to fight for freedom. We owe them our love, our gratitude, our support and our freedom…as Long as we can keep it.
I have watched this movie too many times to count. It is filmed in Alberta where I live where life in many areas still holds the simplicity and purity that is portrayed in the film. I fell in love with all the characters, so perfectly cast and brilliantly portrayed. We need more of these kinds of movies.
I thought this was wonderful movie. Her father loved Olivia deeply and picked a simple but very loving and kind young farmer to marry her. She got pregnant out of wedlock which was considered a disgrace back in the 1940s. His kindness and unconditional love won her ❤ over time. I think it was Edward Brown ‘s loss that he wanted nothing to do with Olivia and the baby. She was not losing out on much because Edward was a real casanova. Ray will make a wonderful father and loving one and good husband.
i couldn’t help but love ray & olivia, both. so very many of the newer Hallmark movies are trashy. so much so that if i had been aware that this is one of the newer ones i wouldn’t have watched it— even tho i accidentally clicked on it! but it’s as good as the older ones which you could COUNT ON being good & heart warming (we never missed a one of them when they came on!!! everything else was excitedly put aside when it was time for them…). LOVED this! it is extremely rare that i watch a movie twice but this one, i know i will. Skeet Ulrich truly deserved the Best Actor award for his part. ty for posting.
Omg, i normally don’t even watch movies and stumbled by accident over this one. What a beautiful and heartbreaking movie. I can’t believe this a*hole wrote back to her that hes not responsible, leaving her to figure it out by herself. Makes me so angry that she had so much love for him while he backstabbed her🤬🤮 Lucky for her she ended up with such an amazing man. She was right, she didn’t deserve him but she changed throughout the movie and i know you cant make someone fall in love, but i really hope she did in the end, cause ray was the kind of man every woman is wishing for and sadly most aren’t so lucky. This movie really hit hard😢 Should be watched by any young girl.
Ahh, this movie is so darned sweeet! I will never be able to erase it from my mind. What a pleasure! I was around 6 years old when this supposedly took place, and have a sister 9 years older than me, so can readily identify with subject matter and a way more simpler time in life. Loved the lake boat scene. Ray simply adored her, so aware right then that this woman, come into his life, was the girl of his dreams! Loved the dinner table scene where “Troy” is mentioned. Just hilarious! Got a big kick out of Mrs. Platt and Mrs. Parker. Twins?? Ray and Livvy were meant to meet each other, enrich each other’s lives; changed people because of this. The author, director, photographer, location scout manager, ALL, are tremendously talented adding to this movie’s magic. Thank you, everyone, involved in the making of this gem!
A type is man any gal (with sense) could fall in love with! Awww!! He was so nervous and shy! That’s so cute!!! 😍 Aww!! He said welcome home! I forgot how sweet he was! Aww! He wrote their marriage date in his Bible! She forgot to ask him if he likes spicy foods! She was trying to surprise him though!
Martha and Ray never judged Livy at all. Livy got in trouble, she married Ray, she wanted to leave after she hurt Ray. Through it all Ray loved her. Livy was slowly falling in love with him but she didn’t want to get hurt again. I loved when Ray asked her to stay and gave her a ring to show her the truth. Then at the end Martha witnessed her brother’s love for Livy and her child and his love returned to him made me happy. Second time perusal this movie today lol.
I keep perusal this wonderful movie. I cant seem to stop. It takes me away from the rotten ecistence i have in nursing home. I remeber the wrong choices i made growing up. Oh if only someone helped me to know people like Ray existed and i could wait for him. A soul mate. I was so alone and took the first one that ask me.Please keep showing this movie. It takes us away from this life.
While I’m not a huge fan of Hallmark movies, this one hit it out of the ballpark. Well, almost; at the point Livy’s about to leave for good, it’s almost as if they went, “Whoops, look at the time! Better wrap this up!” and within 5 minutes threw in: a plot twist with the sisters and the POW– Livy burning evidence– going into labor– having a baby shower (um, guess she decided to stay?)–guess she really does love Ray–let’s go exploring together… Whew. Still enjoyed it. Good acting all around
I am from Tamil Nadu which is a southern state of India. Of late I had started perusal only Hollywood movies of 1940s for I was under the impression that the modern movies are not so emotional and artistic but only full of speedy actions and depict only romanticism. But this movie really has made me realize my folly and also made me change this wrong notion. In fact the factor of such acceptance with such genorosity is still anathema to the people of our country, still the greatest truth that no one can afford to shake off is that true and real love will obliterate every other thing how serious or dreadful it might be for everything will be oblivious to the real love.
I always believed in love and then I met an Italian who was less mature to understand the love or even feel it. Even 5 were not enough for him. It destroyed me and made me a different person and selfish too in order to protect myself. I know it’s wrong and one day I will change back and find the right person❤
~Watched this three times so far this week. A powerful story told in a simple way about the strongest emotions people have and how they try to cope with mistakes within a world in turmoil. The outcome of having faith in human nature and the kindness of community is so gratifying. I wish my life had been more this way.
This is a great CLEAN movie. The actors all worked together like a well oiled machine to make this production work. Keri Russell and Skeet Ullrich make a great onscreen couple. The way that they both portray awkwardness between each other is fantastic. Do you notice that until Olivia nee Dunne Singleton handed over a letter to Edward Brown, the flight instructor who was the father of her child, to her sister Abby, that there was no reply from Edward? It might possibly be that in the small farming community, some influential people knew that the father of her baby wasn’t Ray Singleton, and that her mail might possibly have been intercepted at the mail centre, so that Edward Brown never received the letters? Because after Abby posted her letter, Ray brought the reply letter from Edward to Olivia/Livy and handed it to her. It might possibly be that Raymond Singleton had even steamed opened the letter and read it (or someone else who had done it and told him the contents of the letter) before Livy received it. I had a personal experience akin to that.
What a beautiful movie! I was pregnant by my “high school sweetheart ” and ended up pregnant after 3 years. He left, but many men asked me out as I didn’t look pregnant until 6 months along. I of course told them immediately, 2 persisted on marrying me. I just couldn’t do it as I didn’t want to burden them with someone else’s child. But I denied my child a REAL man to raise her. I raised her on my own for a few years, and both men still wanted my child and I. It’s a difficult decision to do what’s right for your child
These days it’s a different world out there however at the end we all strive for that ‘great love’ in our life. It is too late for some and the great sadness is to leave this world and never to know what it’s like to have a ‘Ray’ in your life, if only for a short time. I hope my granddaughter gets that chance❤
My brother was born to unwed parents. He was thirteen days old when he came to live with us. When he had children he found is real family. His parents married. They say my niece looks exactly like his mother. Both of his parents died before he looked them up. When I think of it I feel so sorry for their whole family. Unwed doesn’t mean unloved. I wish “unwed” did not mean “sin” in the 1950s. In the 1960s there were girls in my school wearing odd-fitting skirts. But this had a lovely ending.
