Astrologers often discuss dominant signs, which are a set of rules used to identify outstanding signs in a birth chart. These signs include the solar sign, the sign where the Ascendant is posited, and the sign where the Ascendant’s ruler is posited. For example, if your Ascendant, Midheaven, and Moon signs are all in a particular sign, such as Aries, it would indicate that Mars is your dominant planet.
To find your chart dominants, use a calculator that uses 13 points in its equation: the “big three” (sun, moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto). There are ten planets in astrology, and each can be your dominant planet. The calculator calculates the dominant element (fire, earth, air, or water) and dominant quality (cardinal, fixed, or mutable) for each house placement.
An astrology house with five or more planets can also indicate that the ruling planet for that sign is your dominant planet. For example, when you are a Taurus or Libra rising, Venus is dominant and important in your birth chart. All zodiac signs have weak or strong elements, or traits that can be interpreted either way depending on the situation.
To find your ruling planet, you must know your rising sign or ascendant. The ascendant is located on the cusp between the 1st and 12th House on the left side of your birth chart. This application helps you find out the dominant Elements of your horoscope and discover the proportions in which Fire, Air, Earth, or Water are represented.

How do you know who is more dominant?
Dominant personalities are naturally assertive, taking control of situations and tackling challenges head-on. Their confidence can boost team morale, but they may overwhelm less assertive team members. They desire control and work well when given autonomy, but may not always be good team players. Astrologers like Alexandria Lettman, Letao Wang, and Rachel Lang have contributed to this understanding.
The chart ruler in astrology is the planet that governs over the birth chart and influences how a person approaches obstacles, challenges, opportunities, and constructs their identity. Understanding the planet’s influence on a person’s chart can help individuals better understand their characteristics, relationships, and past lives.

How To Calculate Your Dominant Planet Based On Your Birth Chart (Astrology) & How It Describes You. Zodiac Signs Birth Chart, …
Helloooo captain Tan!!! I’ve been using astro-seek for dominants and I just checked astro.com and it’s giving me different ones. Do you have an opinion on which one is better?? On Astro.com my dominants are: Jupiter, Uranus, Pluto On astro-seek it’s: Uranus, and Jupiter and the Sun tie for second place I’m a lil confused
Planets: Uranus 15.8% / Mercury 10.6% / Mars 10.6% Signs: Aquarius 25.2% / Aries 15.1% / Scorpio 11.6% Element: Air 32.2% Modality: Fixed 43.5% I NEVER knew Uranus had such a huge influence in my chart! Here I was thinking I’m just a pisces with a lot of Marsian energy. Except for my sun, all of my inner planets and jupiter are in the signs of Aries or Scorpio. But I’m basically one/fourth Aquarius, lol. I knew Uranus and Mercury are well aspected planets in my chart. I also have a 6th and 11th house stellium and I have a gemini ascendant and aquarius mc, but I never really realized the impact until now. I’ve been focussing so much on my planet placements, that I hadn’t dove head first into my houses and aspects yet. I am LOVING learning about them now! It brings about an even deeper understanding and reflection of how I work, how I can support myself, my values, the impact I have on my surroundings and vice versa, etc. Thank you for spreading knowledge and wisdom!
Woooow, that is a lot of Cardinal and Water energies! Your signs and planetary energies are potent and clear. For me, Mercury is my Dominant Planet ( in Leo) at 15%. Then i have Moon in Aries at 10%,ending with a tie between Venus in Gemini and Mars in Aries(both at 9.6% ). My Dominant Signs are: Gemini with 14.4%, Aries with 12.4% and Scorpio with 10.6% My Dominant Elements are : Fire with 29.4% and Air with 29.2% My Dominant Mode is Fixed with 35.8% So even using the Whole Sign system, my energies are diverse and tied, not completely focused.
planets: 1. venus 2. pluto 3. jupiter signs: 1. leo 2. scorpio 3. libra elements: 1. fire 2. air 3. water 4. earth modes: 1. fixed 2. mutuable 3. cardinal i have no planets in any water sign and i’ve always found it to be weird sinc i could relate with the water energy really well, guess the scorpio and pluto dominancy explains that.
Hi, Awesome article: Signs from greatest to least: Sagittarius 18.1%, Aquarius 16.0%, Scorpio 13.9%, Pisces 11.7%. I thought this odd, I only have Saturn in Scorpio. Sagittarius I have most of my planets in that sign and then Sun Moon in Aquarius. I thought Pisces would be 3rd as I have Venus and Mars in Pisces. Pisce is 4th. Odd that Pisces was not third. Before I watch this article or the Astrology chart series (I binge watched them today). I thought Scorpio probably is not a big player in my life. I only got one planet Saturn in that sign. Sure shakes up my thoughts at the moment. Now I ask What is Saturn in Scorpio lol. My planet ranking from greatest to least: Moon 15.3%, Pluto 14.6%, Sun 11.6%, and Jupiter 10.9%. I know my mood fluctuates quite a bit from the moon or affected. I pay attention to moon placements sorta just flow with the sign placement of the day. So I knew the Moon plays a big roll on how I function during the day. Pluto is making me scratch my head and have a puzzled look. Elemental from greatest to least: Water: 34.9%, Air, 27.4%, Fire 27.3 % Earth 10.4%. I think on another article I commented I like more water and fire. Maybe this is while. I do like Air signs too. I dont have many Earth friends. Earth well are more acquaintances. I have a Capricorn friend though. Modes from greatest to least: Fixed 39.9%, Mutable, 34.4% Cardinal 25.7%. Just to add in, here are my Planet placements. Sun and Moon in Aquarius Mercury in Capricorn Venus Mars in Pisces Jupiter Uranus, Neptune in Sagitarius Saturn in Scorpio Pluto in Libra My Ascendant is Cancer and North Node when I was born in Cancer.
Dominant plants- Neptune, Jupiter and Venus Dominate signs- Pisces, Gemini and Sagittarius Aquarius Dominant element air Dominant mode mutable Idk whether it’s true or not but my Uranus and mercury are in comfortable positions and I’m not sure if that’s dominant lol. I mean I’m a Gemini sun and Venus in the 3 and 4th house. Mercury in Taurus in the 3rd
Planets: Top1:Mercury, Top 2: Venus and Top 3: Saturn. Signs: Top1: Pisces, Top 2: Libra and Top 3: Capricorn I guess my Mercury gets the first is because she is conjunct with descendant point, while it is in Pisces (power lost). Venus is in Taurus in rulership and Saturn is in 7th house conjunct with my sun. Stallion in Pisces in 7th house (Sun, Mercury, Mars and Saturn), Pisces is sure the first. However, Libra becomes the second makes me really surprised since I’ve got no signs in Libra (Maybe stallion in 7th house?). and my Jupiter in Capricorn with the most aspects (though most of them with an orb larger than 6 degree, so minor effect)… I still don’t know why Capricorn becomes the third… my Sagittarius moon and my Virgo rising are all not in the top 3, even the 4th is Gemini…
I have been thinking about the god of the underworld for quite sometime my ancestors worshiped him and I came across your article, and found out that Pluto is my dominate planet. 16. 2% in Leo my 7th house and Scorpio Sun in 10th house 10.7% and my moon in Taurus 4th house 13.8% I never knew this I have 4 planets in Scorpio and Cap rising 19 degrees and Jupiter in Gemini in my 5th house RX and I always wanted to be a Lucky gambling game of chance lottery person it is exciting and I am very psychic with numbers. The past couple of years I have been feeling Plutocracy he rules these people to. I am feeling his power he is 28 degrees in Cap my Sun is 28 degrees something is going to happen and the New moon in Leo conjunct with my natal Pluto. Uranus in Taurus 23 degrees conjunct my 23 degrees Moon in Taurus. I went through the terrible fear situation in my twenties Saturn in Leo was conjunct my Pluto fear and pain was running all through me. Now I know why that happened. I don’t fear now I keep my emotions on ice. I am more about protection and prevention. Nothing surprises me anymore or shocks me. I just don’t care. Thanks for the article.
is it normal to have all of your top 3 dominant planets in your first house.. and have your sun sign in the first house.. and venus is the natural ruler for taurus and taurus is my ascendant and in my venus.. mercury is natural ruler of gemini and my gemini is in mercury which is one of my dominant planets.. wow just wow
I don’t understand the planets on an angle thing, why are those houses you mentioned ‘the house of the angle’? Edit: thanks for the astro.com tip, waaay easier for me I was so confused cause my venus is in libra, but my dominant planet is Mercury just like I thought, I just have so many things in Virgo/Gemini/3rd house haha Dominant Planets: Mercury, Moon, then it’s a tie between Pluto and Sun Dominant Signs: Scorpio, Leo, Capricorn Dominant element: Water Dominant mode: Fixed (by 0.4%)
this doesn’t make any sense to me… when i use other apps, it says my dominant planet is mercury which makes sense because i’m a capricorn (rising) sun and mercury in the twelfth house. when i put it into astro.com, it says mercury is my eighth strongest planet. it also says my top three planets are saturn, uranus, and then neptune, but when i put my chart into another app it said neptune is my weakest planet. why is everything different?
I am pretty much your average saggie but my top three is mercury, mars and uranus. I kind of think of uranus as a mix of the mars and mercury energies, it has the force of mars but canalized through mercurie’s ability to manipulate things to achieve a goal, resulting in big changes, mostly on a conscious, mental plane though. And yes, I have a long neck. 😂
Gemini rising. 15% Saturn, 11% Mercury, 11%Uranus & 11% Pluto. I can see why this proportion works. I have a Stellium in Aquarius and moon in Scorpio in a tight conjunction with Pluto. Resonate with pretty much all these traits. I do have a quite young appearance, very thin, talk with my hands, super disciplined, can be intense and unpredictable. The eye part is true too.
Hi, I love this article, love all your articles! I follow sidereal- Libra signature/air dominant. That being said ASC- Pisces (Neptune, Jupiter), SUN- Libra (Venus), MOON- Taurus (Venus). I am… guess what Venus, Jupiter, and Neptune dominant (traditional ruler ship replace Neptune with Saturn, which is dont really feel). I am all this characteristic traits and I’m very tall, almost 6 foot, long slender limbs, thick brown curly hair past my shoulders, I am told I look “elvish” or “alien like” with upturned almond eyes, strong jawline, high cheekbones, full lips, and prominent forehead. I obsess over different cultures and history, especially occult and metaphysical history. I am Irish, Benin W. African, Iberian Roma, Dutch, Taino, and Jamaican. I have a very ethereal beauty and very pale skin considering my family background. I sing and play keyboard, write my own music and have a passion for helping people as a mental health counselor. I’m into the occult, spell work, different religious practices, meditation, qigong and yoga, alternative healing, dream work, short distance travel to see beautiful landscape, explore places with my dog and cat (I’m eccentric), meet new and old friends, and travel to EAT! Lol. I am starting a program to receive a doctorate in Metaphysics come fall and next fall start my master’s degree in clinical counseling. I am a quiet extrovert and make friends easily. I know how to turn on the charm and when i speak people listen. I have a flair for fashion and accessories.
I’m a Pisces with a Venus Dominant planet. It’s also in Taurus idk if that makes a difference lol. But I honestly somewhat relate to it. Yes on the artsy stuff, but not on the big butt aspect unfortunately. I’m more shaped like a rhombus. 🥲🤣 I do have thick dark hair, thick lips, but not facial symmetry, also unfortunate.
1. Pluto, 2.Uranus . LOL, I enjoy my dark plutonian energy and use it for good and living my best life. I entered into my previous job, and the person I just knew for few minutes feels intimidated by me without me saying anything. and she kepts on trying to bring me down, which she fails, as I am not intimidate her, I say nothing, but she is the one that feels intimidated. I resigned after a year because I do not want to deal with her feelings threatened by my presence while what I do is doing best in what I do, analysing and investigating cases and secured a better position and Leader of the medical team whom in charged of 11 countries.
I will go on the website and check but if I had to guess I would say that I am Venus dominant because I have a lot of Libra in my chart with my son and rising both in Libra and my moon in Taurus which both of those planets are associated with Venus. I would be very surprised if it was another plan however I will be checking just to make sure thank you for this article.
I am Mercury dominant at 17%, Jupiter at around 11%…then Neptune and Venus…I am also, it seems have a Virgo Dominant chart, with Fire being my Dominant element…and have a Mutable signs dominating my chart….I am basically a walking Conundrum…especially since I am Aquarian…I value intelligence..hence the Mercury dominance…I am petite, youthful…but because of the Virgo….I am not too chatty…I do adapt to change quickly…am yet to tap into that Fiery element..
me: gemini rising/mercury as my dom planet, knowing that I could be a good communicator my social anxiety: only if u had the courage lol :d also it’s so true. I’m like 4’11 (yeah, I know), people always call me cute and I’m really sarcastic lol but I guess it’s my pisces sun and moon that don’t let me be “me” :'(
I’m a Gemini sun with two dominant planets same percentage: moon(10,2%) and Venus(10,2%). And Pluto just right behind (10,1%)… my moon is Capricorn and Venus in cancer… I have a mostly water and earth as main energy. I do (kind of) relate to the moon Venus and Pluto dominant. I think I’m a good mix of these three
I got 11.3% Pluto, 10.7% Jupiter and 10.8% Moon. I am an Aries, with Scorpio Ascendant and Sag Moon, Jupiter and Pluto. All the descriptions were weirdly accurante, even though the description for Jupiter and Pluto kind of contradit a bit. I do feel that internal dicotomy some times… If you think about mythology, Jupiter (Zeus) is the ruler of the Gods, and Pluto (Hades) is the ruler of the underworld. One seeks to expand and rule and other is faily internal and deep.
Uranus dominat) hahah) people called me strange)) i don’t know why)) probably bcs I always have my own opinion, and if I’m not interested, I ignore 😅 spontaneous…yes. I can’t work under someone, love freedom. I guess I’m interesting person, bcs I collect a lot of different information. My neck is long 😂 but height is normal, and legs arms also normal. Eyes are black. I’m kazakh tho. I look bitchy, but when they speak to me, I’m super nice and cute
I’m Venus dominant and a Cancer. However, I don’t relate with Venus that much. The artistic part and being perceived as “beautiful” are true, but I’m the unapproachable type of person, also how can I be luxurious if I’m poor?! Moreover, I’m not socially skilled and I hate being the mediator. I relate with the description of Venus dominant in Vedic Astrology, tho. Updt: I watched the timestamp for the Moon and, incomparably, I relate more to that. I’m a Cancer after all, right?! haha. Also, the Moon is my Soul Planet. I feel a strong connection with the Moon. I even was born on a Monday! 🌕🌙
Mars traditional, Uranus dominant with planets. I don’t relate to Uranus at all, I more so feel like weird otherworldly themes happen more in my life. I relate with dominant mars traits (Scorpio sun, Aries moon, mars in Leo). I relate with mars more so with, how I am, and how I look. Whereas Uranus influences more life events.
Mercury dominate I sick at all thus except being persuasive at times and I know I can even be a bit manipulative. I am humorous I can be dark and sarcastic! I do have a wide range of random knowledge I like to talk to friends about different topics. One on one I’m great with communication. I do have friends and family that are very diverse. I’m a virgo rising… me in social life a wallflower..cutesy yes.. I’m cute too alot of people and I’m petite
Libra 🌞 & Venus Dominant . I relate to both honestly, but my Aries moon.. 😅🥴 needs to be put in check 😂😩❤️ (I kinda didn’t expect Venus to be my dominant planet at first, I feel like growing up I definitely did embody these qualities, and I probably still do I just need to tap into & connect with them again cause .. the Aries was brought out of me 💀 * like I said she needs to be put in place* :,) & I relate a lot to my Aquarius rising too / Uranus in the first house)
Apparently I am Saturn dominant, but I vibe more with the description for Pluto (second highest), but maybe I don’t come across as that intense externally. I’m Cancer sun so maybe that is why I resonate with it more, because I’m very watery and easily pulled down into my darker emotions and moods and not particularly practical.
Cancer ♋ is my zodiac sign. But, my Pisces ♓ is in Moon. Therefore, Moon dominant was my highest percentage. Everything is true, except I’m not shy. 🤣 Cautious yes. My second highest was Uranus dominant. I can definitely relate to this as well. But, my eye color is black, deep setting, and intense. Therefore, I do have a mixture of both dominates. If that makes any sense?
