How Come Edward Wasn’T Included In Thomas And The Magic Railroad?

Edward, the character of Thomas the Magic Railroad, was never included in any known script for the 2000 British-American fantasy adventure film, Thomas and the Magic Railroad. The reasons for his absence include his holiday with Sir Topham Hatt and Lady Hatt, as well as the lack of screen time and opportunity to utilize him in a way that would have added real value to the film.

The film was written and directed by Britt Allcroft and produced by Allcroft and Phil Fehrle. The cast includes Alec, who is known for his role as the perfect engine of the original seven created by Wilbert Awdry. Edward was never in any known draft of the film, and according to Phil Fehrle, there was not enough screen time or opportunity to utilize him in a way that would have added any real value to the film.

Some Thomas fans have claimed that Edward was away for repairs during that time. However, it is believed that Edward was not in the final movie, which is now known as “Thomas and the Magic Railroad”.

In summary, Edward’s absence from the 2000 film Thomas and the Magic Railroad was due to his holiday with Sir Topham Hatt and Lady Hatt, as well as the lack of screen time and opportunity to utilize him in a way that would have added real value to the film. The film has been criticized for its lack of screen time and potential for improvement.

📹 The TRUE REASON Edward’s NOT In Thomas And The Magic Railroad

Hello everyone, Happy New Year! I apologise for being a bit inactive recently, but the holidays have now started for me, so I hope …

Why is Edward hated by Thomas Creators?

The article explores the irony of Edward, a beloved character in the popular TV series, being hated and disregarded by the creators. Edward’s personality, which is often praised for his kindness and wisdom, makes him a boring and uninteresting character to write for. The show has shown two ways of exploiting Edward: underuse or ruin. Some fans, like Britt, Brenner, Christopher, and BWBA, believe that Edward’s appearances dwindle, while others, like HIT, believe that exploiting Edward means changing him as a character.

The article argues that Edward doesn’t need to appear in every episode, but he should be more prevalent and reoccurring. If the creators can find time to include characters like Diesel misbehaving, James showing off, or Thomas speaking for the lion’s sake, they could include Edward in a few roles. Edward, as the noble, hard-working, brave, and sensible engine, is essential to the existence of the railway series.

What happened to Lady after Thomas and the Magic Railroad?

Lady, a member of the Conductor Family, was entrusted to Burnett Stone to protect her from Diesel 10, an evil diesel engine. After escaping, she was caught by Diesel 10 and crashed, causing her to lose its magical energy. Burnett spent years trying to restore Lady, but lacked the right coal to make her steam. Years later, Lily and Thomas brought the coal necessary to make Lady steam, and she returned to life. They were chased by Diesel 10 again, but Lady, Burnett, and Thomas managed to defeat Diesel 10 and give the Conductor Family the Gold Dust they needed.

In Calling All Engines!, Lady and Rusty appeared in a dream sequence, advising Thomas on how to resolve the conflict between steam and diesel engines by working together. Lady is a kind, wise engine who is respectful to others and tries her best to help others through direct or sage advice. She appears to be friends with Thomas.

Why was Henry written out of Thomas and Friends?

The Island of Sodor: Its People, History and Railways, written to provide historical background to the Railway Series, has sparked debate over the rebuild of Henry the Green Engine. Reverend W. Awdry claimed that the pre-rebuild and post-rebuild Henry were two separate engines, although Henry seemed familiar with events before the crash. The question of whether there have been two Henry’s or one remains unanswered, as both sources can be considered equally canonical.

According to “TIOS”, Henry was an experimental locomotive built from plans stolen from Sir Nigel Gresley, but the wrong plans were taken and the locomotive was riddled with faults. The Fat Controller, desperate for any locomotive, was the only person who could be persuaded to buy it.

Why were Edward and Henry removed?

A new series of Thomas and Friends, consisting of 26 episodes, has been announced, featuring changes such as the removal of Edward, Henry, and Toby from the Steam Team and the replacement of the narrator with Thomas. The series is set after Big World! Big Adventures!, which was released in July 2018. It introduces gender-balanced and multicultural characters and features a new theme tune. The series is split into two halves, with the first half featuring Thomas traveling around the world and the second half back on the Island of Sodor. The series was released on Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu in late 2018. The series was renewed for a 23rd series in 2019, and the 24th series was released in September 2020.

Why did Thomas and the Magic Railroad flop?

Thomas and the Magic Railroad, a 2000 film, was criticized for its acting, plot, special effects, and lack of fidelity to its source material. However, it became a box office success, grossing $19. 7 million worldwide against a production budget of $19 million. The company Allcroft resigned in September 2000 due to the film’s poor performance. HiT Entertainment acquired the company two years later, including the television rights to Thomas. As of October 2020, a second theatrical live-action animated Thomas and Friends film is in development at Mattel Films, a division of Mattel, the current owner of HiT Entertainment.

In Shining Time, Mr. Conductor faces a crisis as his supply of magic gold dust is too low for him to return from Sodor. Diesel 10 announces his plan to rid Sodor of steam engines by destroying Lady, the lost engine. The steam engines agree to find Lady before Diesel 10, unaware that his sidekicks, Splatter and Dodge, are spying on them. Diesel 10 destroys the shed where the steam engines are sleeping with his claw, scaring Mr. Conductor away.

The next day, Mr. Conductor calls his cousin, Mr. C. Junior, to help him with the gold dust crisis. They discover a secret railway between Sodor and Shining Time and Diesel 10 tells Splatter and Dodge of his plans to destroy Lady. Toby overhears and distracts Diesel 10, who knocks one of the shed supports with his claw, causing the roof to collapse. Thomas is abducted by Diesel 10, who threatens to drop him off a viaduct unless he divulges the location of the buffers.

With Thomas’ help, she alerts her grandfather and Patch, helping restore Lady to her former glory and returning the magic to the Magic Railroad. Lily wears a purple jumper, red shirt, white khaki trousers, and black shoes.

What happened to Edward in Sodor left for dead?

Edward’s corpse is found in a shed, mentally causing Thomas and Oliver to mentally break them and other engines brought to the station. Trevor even asks to be put in the shed with Edward for the day. Wellsworth is overrun with infected people, and the group leaves. Edward’s soul becomes active, allowing him to control his body even after death. He gathers all the infected and makes an appearance with his army at Crovan’s Gate.

In Sodor: Left for Dead 2 Last Stand (Non Canon), Edward’s corpse is dragged to Tidmouth and placed in a shed with James’s remains. Burnett Stone uses James’s remains and shoots a beam of light, bringing Edward’s corpse back to life. Edward goes into a frenzy and helps the survivors fight off BoCo, Thomas, and a horde of zombies. After Topham sacrifices himself, the zombies are brought back to life, leaving the survivors uncertain of their future.

Why was PT Boomer not in Thomas and the Magic Railroad?

The original extended director’s cut version of Thomas and the Magic Railroad featured several changes, including the introduction of a major character, “Petey Tiberius Boomer”, portrayed by Canadian actor Doug Joseph Lennox. Boomer was originally intended to be Burnett Stone’s adversary, the real culprit responsible for Lady’s crash, rather than Diesel 10. Test audiences complained about Boomer being too frightening for younger children, leading to his absence from the final theatrical cut film before its release.

The movie also featured scenes in the future that revealed Lily and Patch, 20 years later as adults, were married and had children. Lily was originally the narrator of the film and was telling the story to her children. Later, the scenes were cut from the film and adult Patch was portrayed by Robert Tinker, but it is unknown who played adult Lily and her kids.

P. T. Boomer was described in the original cut of the script as being “a drifter through choice” and was intended to be Burnett Stone’s adversary, the real culprit responsible for why Lady went too fast and crashed instead of Diesel 10. When test audiences complained about him being “too scary”, he was cut out at the last minute, explaining the laziness of the movie’s final cut and rewriting Diesel 10 as the main villain.

Boomer was seen in the movie in the form of two cameos, with part of his confrontation with Burnett being seen by a distance as Stacy and Lily arrive in their car. Audibly, the scene is re-dubbed so that Burnett is giving directions to a lost biker, which presents a dark contrast and appears somewhat menacing.

Many key scenes that gave Britney Mary Allcroft’s original story substance and were filmed with Peter Henry Fonda as Burnett Stone and Russell Means as Billy Twofeathers plus Cody McMains as Patch, were not in the released version because of the references to P. T. Boomer. The movie scenes with these cuts were either edited out or altered.

The original UK trailer for the film also contained original voices, with John Bellis being the voice of Thomas. However, American test audiences thought Bellis’ voice made Thomas sound too old, so he was canned. Canadian voice actor Eddie Glenn performed Thomas’ voice in the final cut, and Michael Angelis, narrator for the UK series from 1991-2012, was replaced by Susan Roman and Linda Ballantyne as James and Percy respectively.

The movie also contained several flashback scenes of Young Burnett (Jared Wall) and Tasha (Laura Bower), which ended up being cut due to some involving P. T. Boomer, such as the dance they have. The scenes are only audibly heard in the movie through Burnett’s imagination.

Why is Edward not in Thomas?

Edward, the only engine of the original seven created by Wilbert Awdry, was not in any known draft of Thomas and the Magic Railroad due to insufficient screen time and opportunity to use him effectively. In the eighth series, Edward was part of the Steam Team, the main cast of eight central characters. However, after the twenty-second series, he was removed from the team to fix the gender imbalance at Tidmouth Sheds and diversify the franchise. Edward was relegated to being a supporting character.

In the UK, Keith Wickham portrayed him with an English accent, while William Hope gave him a Southern American accent. Edward’s voice lacked the stereotypical Southern American dialect, making him sound younger than he actually is. Tim Whitnall tried voicing Edward in the US dub of the eighteenth series episode Spencer’s VIP but did not make the final cut.

Where is Edward in Thomas and the Magic Railroad?

Edward was never cast in the original film due to the unavailability of his new model and the paucity of screen time or opportunity to utilize him. Nevertheless, he did make an appearance in the 20th Anniversary Video Presentation, where he was the engine that transported Sir Topham Hatt and Lady Hatt on their holiday. Noel MacNeal, renowned for his role as Bear in The Big Blue House, provided the voice for the character.

  • Well I looked it up why Edward wasn’t in TATMR and it said there wasn’t any screen time or opportunity to utilize him in a way that added any real value to the film but maybe he took Sir Topham hatt on his vacation and there’s one more character like Edward but he was actually meant to be in the movie and that’s George the steamroller he was actually supposed to have an appearance in TATMR but his model didn’t make it to Canada for filming and as a result his role never passed the storyboard stage

  • It would’ve been nice if they had finished Edward’s model in time for Thomas and the Magic Railroad, then Edward would’ve appeared in the film and on the big screen. It also would’ve been nice if Duck, Donald, Douglas, Oliver the great western engine, Bill, Ben, Stepney, Trevor, Terence, and Toad all appeared in the film as well.
