Criss Angel, a renowned magician and illusionist, is known for his mind-blowing magic that goes beyond what the eyes can see. In a video, he demonstrates seven tricks and reveals the secret behind his magic. Angel cannot go to a magic open-mic to smooth out his routine and cannot test new material on-stage. Since 2019, he has been performing his signature magic show Mindfreak in Las Vegas.
After his Believe misfire, Criss Angel is back to performing his magic show Mindfreak, showcasing his innovative tricks and tireless team of magicians. His latest show, AMYSTIKA—The Secret Revealed, takes audiences on a journey through wonder, magic, and down-the-rabbit.
Criss Angel’s levitation trick is simpler but less impressive, as it involves standing on your toes from a carefully chosen angle. He fools your eyes and brain into interpreting what you see as unexplainable “magic”. Card tricks and pulling a rabbit out of a hat are not performed magic but are misdirected or very good at breaking and entering.
As one of the world’s most successful illusionists, Criss Angel uses misdirection, choreographed movements, and hidden compartments to disappear and reappears. His classic magic illusion trick has been a hit with audiences worldwide.

You were close on the salt and pepper one but you weren’t spot on. He had a magnet in his sleeve and when he grabs her hand you can see him moving his sleeve over the salt to collect the magnetic powder. The left hand just had more powder or maybe even real pepper by that point since the magnetic powder was now in his sleeve
I’d like to add an improvement to the the salt/pepper explanation. I believe he has a magnet in his cuff or under his cuff strapped to his wrist. when he holds her hand over the mixture, the filings are jumping up and onto his cuff. Hence the pepper coloured, patterned shirt to hide it should anyone look. That way, the salt on the table can be examined.
My first encounter with Criss was when he made my girlfriend disappear. They had dated previously but broke up. While I was dating his ex, he decided to call her up and ask her to come to Vegas… he was lonely following when his teenage Vegas GF left him. By the time my GF landed in Vegas, he had made up with the teen, and said he couldn’t see her. She had dropped me like a hot potato… but was dropped by Angel during her flight. Hilarious. That pretty much ended my relationship with her right there. Nice one, Criss!
Dude your accent rules. This was cool to see ’cause I can’t stand this guy. I went to Vegas many years ago with my family and we all went to see his show. I didn’t want to go, but that’s just what we were doing that evening. Everything he did during the show was so underwhelming and just boring, especially compared to the stuff he did on his TV show. The worst thing by far was that he kept trying to be funny. Every “joke” or ‘funny” thing he said fell flat, and there was all this super corny, fake sentimental nonsense he kept talking about. Like his childhood and just stupid shit like that, I was just rolling my eyes through the entire thing. Everything on the stage was blacked out, everything behind him were a series of black curtains, and they kept the lights very low whenever he was doing any sort of “magic”. The end, like finale of the show was him levitating, and it was just him “floating” like five, maybe ten feet above the stage. It was the worst live performance I’ve ever seen. I thought he was a total douchebag before I saw his show. So after seeing him live and sitting in the theatre listening to him try to be funny and cool for an hour or so, I left thinking he’s a far bigger douchebag than I previously thought. I can’t even begin to tell you how lame and cringe-y the whole thing was. –
Awesome analysis dude. Very entertaining and engaging presentation!! Of course we know the tricks are fake but it’s fascinating to find out how he did them. I always remember penn and teller how they used to tell how they did it. Truck runs over Teller and the Penn explains was it a fake truck, a fake tyre or a fake teller. Now on all tricks I try to work out what is fake!
Regardless, the coin under the skin trick is still impressive. You can see space in his bracelet and the fact that it bled a little bit is very believable. A lot of his tricks are stupid and gimmicky (like the Frankenstein trick) and most involve paid actors but some of them are still good and more importantly, entertaining.
I find Criss’s tricks impressive. But what I don’t like is that most of the time the audience is in on it and aid in the illusion. So I could do the same stuff he does if I had my audience working with me and spending a couple hours setting up the trick and filming it to show to people. A great illusionist is one who can do fantastic tricks in front of an audience that is NOT in on the trick!
Most of Angel’s tricks can be performed by anyone. It just requires some technical tricks, camera-trickery and some acting. Don’t get me wrong: Angel is quite a good magician, but most of what he showed on TV can be done without slight of hand, or even without practice. On top of that, very often the entire crowd is in on Angel’s tricks. Like the Walking On Water trick, where glass plates were mounted just below the water line. That entire pool filled with people knew exactly what was going on, even evading the platforms and their glass pillars when swimming below and in between them. Same thing with him flying from one building to another. The entire crowd below are paid actors, pretending to not see the wires that were edited out later. Same thing with him putting his hand through a glass pane in a casino. That required installing a glass pane with a hole in it, that can slide into place when needed. Again, no slight of hand needed, and the entire staff and all the workers who installed that glass pane were in on the trick.
The explanation of the last trick with the iron gate is completely wrong. It was shown conclusively that the trick was done using CGI. The gate you see when he performs the trick is 100% CGI generated, and he is simply walking through a clear space. The filming was done in 2 stages, first with an actual iron gate attached. And second, with the iron gate removed. It is 100% staged.
