I have lived all over New Hampshire for 50 years. I still reside in NH, and Love my SAFE state. Of course larger cities have a denser population, so more chances of crime, as it is in any state you live in. I know Keene NH very well, as I lived within miles of this very small city. I have lived in Nashua NH as well, and still very safe place to live, compared to other states. There is no where in NH, I wouldn’t live given the opportunity. I have also lived all over the United States growing up, and New Hampshire still my favorite State. “Live Free or Die.” great Moto, Fantastic state!
I live in North Conway NH and the crime in this area is because of the drug problem. I have lived in many places including NYC and Boston and I must say the drug problem in this area is the worst I have experienced. People have a mistaken impression of where the opioid crisis is. They assume it is an urban problem mostly with minorities. In fact the crisis is the worst in rural areas like mine and it mostly affects white people and women are very much the most affected by it.
Sadly opioids are the culprit behind quiet New England’s crime rates. The good news is the government and police are getting some traction on the problem. I think going forward, when the Department of Justice publishes its 2020-2021 statistics, there will a noticeable drop since addressing the opioid crisis got serious during those peak years of 2018-19. Thanks for your articles. They are informative.
Born and raised in Plymouth New Hampshire I don’t really find it to be very dangerous. Every state has its certain places. And it is true that unfortunately New Hampshire has an immense opioid problem. I don’t know.. I carry a concealed firearm everywhere I go and I’ve never had to pull it out and point it at another human being in this state.
I was born in New Hampshire, lived in Florida from 4 to 11 and moved back to New Hampshire to Laconia, and New Hampshire may seem harmless compared to most places but I can say that where I lived in Laconia, we had massive issues with drugs and violent crimes, I now live in Bradford where it’s pretty peaceful, but then again we had that lady who was buddies with the Epstein guy living here so you never know what your neighbor could be…..
Laconia is pretty low for violent crime rate but I know that the property crime is slightly higher than national average. After all, I’m never in the center of it. I’m always near the Weirs beach and the Lake area. Only had 1 incident where a guy got angry because he was driving 10 under the speed limit and I was close behind him getting ready to pass him. But he pulled over and then then followed be around. Cops were called and he eventually stopped before they got to him. Safe to say that bad drivers need to be taken off the road.
How it is now is unfortunately better. Unfortunately because we had to go through a period of drug death whacked to get to this less death time. In many places at many times you’ll get people that will say. Crime ? There’s no crime here. Yet you only got to check, The Patch, States Police logs ( town, county, state) and you’ll see there’s plenty of crime. When we went through our opioid period. People were saying, ‘ Nah, it’s pretty boring here.’ I’m thinking, ‘ Are you frigging blind.?’ We had, in a city of 120k, and of 90k. 2 deaths a day for months, and 1-2 for a year. They just get indifferent or jaded. And respond in a ‘ ..well, it wasn’t me.’ view. And don’t think about it. OH, it’s just partying and that one messed up. ..I warned the one… In the middle of a joke..drunk..sex session,..when they were attentively asleep( lights on but in their basement or, not home!!). So basically, in actuality, did NOT warn them. Crime Yes There’s Crime here everyday like elsewhere. Stop the self deception when possible. And you don’t need to be a cop to, or, be a local criminal, see it. I hope you have a nice day.
My question is how are these calculated. Do they include shop lifting in towns with large commercial districts. Shoplifting frequently occurs. If these crimes are included I think it skews the overall risk of dangerous crime in any given town. These crimes are serious in a financial sense but don’t think they cause the level of risk to people that break ins or assault do.
I’ve lived in Rochester for over 11 years now. It’s a walk in the park compared to the slums I’ve been around in many parts of the country. My hometown of Killeen TX is ghetto land even though it is the the home of Fort Hood. Where I was stationed in CA the base was adjacent to the town of Lompoc. I never wanted to drive off base into town after dark unless I was with a group of people.
Is this. For real?. I grew up on New Hampshire. I tell you. The towns like. Manchester, Nashua, Rochester. Keene Even Derry. Crime Rate Has Gone Up. Honestly, Don’t matter where you Live. Crime’s of all types. Not to far away. Drug’s. Alcoholic’s, Homeless is Everywhere across the United States. Sad. Just watch your back. Be careful out there. Be Smart. Be aware of Your surroundings and if you see Anything Suspicious. Call 911 Call Report incident to the Police.
I think the most dangerous places in NH are plces where there’s street people camps( not part of political campaigns or safett awareness campaigns. Any place wild animals regularly visit ( like black bears, coyotes, other) and anywhere there’s humans with guns powerful enough to kill coyotes, bears, and etcetera. The drug death problem, by reports ( I don’t smoke or drink), seems much handled. And don’t see too many reports of parental murder of their kids.
To anyone perusal this who isn’t from NH: This article is 2 years old. Do some current research to find out what’s really happening now. I live in a rural town outside of Keene, and the crime rate in Keene has skyrocketed. Armed robberies, carjackings, etc have gone crazy. A few years ago I wouldn’t have thought twice about walking around downtown Keene in the evening after a dinner; but after 3 attempted armed robberies on me on the sidewalk, I won’t go to Keene without a weapon. Many other “cities” in NH are experiencing similar issues.
You are correct conquered and Manchester you will find homeless people living under bridges stepping on needles. I have a friend that I was engaged to and he was an officer be very careful where you move. New Hampshire is very lovely. Just like the state of Maine Boothbay Harbor Newcastle. I had a house in Southport Island, but of course I was never paid for it. Sad thing is I have proof of it because I’m handicapped. I’ve never done anything about it. I can’t drive. I can’t get anywhere in. My kids are so angry. Remember, nothing is as it used to be New Hampshire is overpopulated you want your own private propertywith quite a few acres you’re able to go hunting I always thought eating deer would be disgusting better than black Angus
Compared to the west coast state I moved away from, Manchester (specifically the ‘Wild’ West Side) is how neighborhoods thrive. Our block is very close knit and quite diverse and we have the same kind of fun the original French-Canadians had in the 1890’s when my neighbor was being built. I love this town.
Cody, you may have mathematically summarized which towns and cities have the highest crime rates, but you failed to make one massive glaring point for context: New Hampshire IS THE SAFEST STATE OF THEM ALL. We are consistently THE state with the lowest crime rate, or at least in a statistical tie with Maine, depending on the year.
I just heard an ad on you tube; “respect your pubic region”. It reminds me of something the catholic church officially said about 15 years ago: “the worse it is, the better it is for us”. Noone’s being remotely honest about who all these people in this world are, and what they always are planning on doing next as hellbent cruelty, no matter what the day’s news just was. They’re all evil (just like in the bible when in the days of Noah “every imagination of their heart is evil”. I am not that horrified myself at the pubic comment as gay ‘pride’? but I can vouch for the fact that they are not telling anyone what this situation is going to end up with as a purely evil population in a kind of cheap chintzy way as just a front and cover for how invisibly it doesn’t begin to address the behind the scenes incalculable hatred for everyone good. There are constant disappearances; there are horrific tortures like dragging and flying; there are total vaporizations and blackouts of lies and obnoxious one point upsetness of people in super high places, and that constant lie promoting that idea.
