How To Crochet A Magical Adjustable Ring?

The Magic Ring is a basic crochet technique that provides a secure, adjustable center with no visible hole, perfect for amigurumi and projects requiring a tight start. It is created by creating an adjustable loop, inserting hook and yarn over, chain stitching, working stitches into the ring, tightening the ring, joining the round, and weaving in the yarn tail. This technique is essential for crocheting amigurumi projects and is a great way to start crochet projects that are tight.

To create an adjustable ring, start by wrapping the yarn around your fingers with palm facing you and crossing. Work the magic ring in two stages: the foundation ring/loop, followed by any stitches your pattern calls for. Follow these step-by-step instructions to learn how to crochet an adjustable ring and see adorable projects you can make with it.

In this beginner-friendly crochet video tutorial, Natalie of Nattypat Crochet demonstrates how to create an adjustable ring, also known as a magic loop, a great method for starting crochet projects that are tight. • I’m trying to figure out how to do a 2nd (& on) magic circle in a line of motifs, using one continuous piece of yarn without having to join together separate motifs. I’d like to pull closed the center holes that chain 4 & slip stitch leaves me. Is that possible, &, if so, can you explain how, please?

  • I found a “beginners crochet kit” to make cute tiny animals with cotton crochet thread. After an hour of trying to follow the book, giving up and going to Youtube, and trying this tutorial, I have made… a tangled mess 😑 I might come back with reasonably sized yarn eventually but until then this stuff will remain a mystery 😅

  • Wonderful article! After trying and failing with many other articles I was able to do this on the first try thanks to your article! So thank you very much! I have a question though. I’m using this currently to make a beanie, but the loop keeps opening up. Did I do something wrong or am I supposed to tie it off when I close it?
