How To Determine The Astrological Planet Degree?

In astrology, degrees play a crucial role in determining the strength and influence of planetary placements in a birth chart. Each zodiac sign is composed of 30 degrees (0-29), which make up the circle (12 signs x 30 degrees = 360 degrees). To interpret astrological degrees, one must first ascertain planet positions, then pinpoint their respective degrees. Astrologers use these degrees to mark exactly where a planet or celestial body sat at the moment of birth.

To accurately assess an astrological chart, degrees are a key factor. If the chart notates planets close to the zodiac ring, you can probably eyeball the planet’s degree accurately. If not, grab a straight edge (like a ruler) and make a straight line from the planet to the edge of the chart. Wherever this line lands indicates the degree of the planet inside a given zodiac sign.

Degrees are based on the actual position of planets in the sky and not on any calculations. Since there are 12 zodiac signs, we divide 360 by 12, making the maximum number of degrees by sign or planet 30. When a planet is within 4 degrees of the cusp of the next House, it will work on both the House it’s currently in AND on the next House.

To find your Sabian symbol, check your birth chart, see the degrees of the planet, and then find the symbol that corresponds with that. For example, to locate 25 degrees Aries in your birth chart, look at the purple circle at the bottom of the chart. Place all 9 planets within 30 degrees of a sign, and place the planets between 0 to 30 degrees. Understanding how to interpret planetary degrees is an essential skill for any aspiring astrologer.
