The Magic Keyboard can be forced to unpair itself from its current paired device by pressing a key combination. To do this, hold down the power button for at least three seconds and click on the Bluetooth icon in the upper toolbar. If the keyboard doesn’t have a Bluetooth icon, you can turn it off or remove the batteries. Click the Bluetooth icon in the upper toolbar and select “Set Up Bluetooth Device”.
If the keyboard doesn’t have a Bluetooth icon, hold down the power button while holding down the power button until the LED indicator starts blinking rapidly. Open the Bluetooth app and click on the Bluetooth icon. If the keyboard is not unpaired from the previous Mac, you can use Apple Universal Control to switch the keyboard and mouse seamlessly between devices.
To reset your keyboard, hold down the Shift and Option keys (‘Alt’ on some keyboards) and click on the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar. Turn on your device and the LED should start blinking to show that it’s discoverable and ready to be paired. If the LED never turns on, you might need to change the device’s batteries. On macOS 13 or later, choose Apple menu > System Settings, click Bluetooth in the sidebar, Control-click the device, then choose Forget. On macOS 12.5 or earlier, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Bluetooth, Control-click the device name, then click Remove.
To force unpair the keyboard without needing access to the original paired device, turn them off, press and hold the power button until the LED indicator starts blinking rapidly. Unplug the keyboard, hold down the ESC key, and plug the keyboard back into the system. Open the System Preferences application, click on the Bluetooth icon, and right-click on the name of the keyboard you want to disconnect from.
