The Magic Mouse on a Mac is often experiencing issues with its right-click functionality. One common cause is a loose battery terminal contact in the Magic Mouse. To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
- Turn off and on the device using the Magic Mouse switch at the bottom.
- Power on the device and wait for it to appear in the Device list. To reconnect the mouse, click on the Connect button.
- Reboot the Magic Mouse by turning it off and then on again.
- Check the battery and ensure it’s charged. Verify that the Apple Mouse is on and Bluetooth is enabled on your Mac.
- Use your Mac laptop’s built-in trackpad or a USB mouse to choose Apple menu > System Settings (or System Preferences) and click Bluetooth. Try turning Bluetooth off and on again, or try plugging the mouse directly into your Mac using an Apple lightning to USB cable.
- If the mouse doesn’t connect, reset it by holding down the power button.
- Replace/recharge the batteries, re-pair the Apple Mouse, reset the Mouse settings, restart Bluetooth service, and restart.
- Open the Bluetooth Preferences pane and delete your mouse’s profile. Make sure the Bluetooth Prefs pane is searching.
- Pair the Magic Mouse by going to “System Preferences” > “Bluetooth”. In the Bluetooth settings, you should see the Magic Mouse.
In summary, if your Apple Magic Mouse is not working properly, follow these steps to resolve the issue.

Thanks for this tip, simple and straightforward, but probably most of us don’t think of this solution. I had my MM2 randomly disconnect from my iMac and it just refused to connect. I let it lie low for a few weeks, but it still didn’t connect. It never occurred to me to ‘Disconnect’ it first and then let the iMac re-find it. Now it’s connected and working.
