What happens if you break a mirror on Friday the 13th?

Breaking a mirror can bring seven years of bad luck, according to legend. To break this spell, one must turn seven times in a clockwise circle, which may make one dizzy and increase the chances of falling on broken mirror parts. This would likely lead to an emergency room visit.

Opening an umbrella indoors is also considered bad luck, as it may indicate a fire in the building. If you find yourself in such a situation, calmly exit and contact the fire department.

Walking under a ladder is also considered bad luck, as it may indicate construction or routine maintenance in the area. Paint cans, tools, and other construction equipment could be on the ladder, which could fall due to gravity. If one of these objects falls at the exact moment you are walking under the ladder, you may be back at the emergency room. To avoid this scenario, observe the area surrounding the ladder and take extra steps to walk around the perimeter of the work area to avoid potential hazards.

What does the Bible say about broken mirrors?

Paul addresses the Corinthian Church, arguing that they are failing to accurately represent God in the world. He compares people to broken mirrors, with sin causing the mirror to break. The Holy Spirit repairs these mirrors through faith in Christ, transforming believers into Christ’s likeness and image. Believers are called to be the mirror of Christ to the world, and Paul aims to challenge the notion of using the scorecard of their culture. By measuring up, believers can have confidence in a world with conflicting character and priorities with that of Jesus.

The mistake is one of preservation rather than prioritization, as Paul’s message emphasizes the importance of faith in Christ and the Holy Spirit in repairing the mirrors. This issue will be tackled together for the next three weeks.

How long are you cursed if you break a mirror?

The origins of many superstitions are unknown, but some can be traced back to specific times in history. One such superstition is the belief that breaking a mirror brings seven years of bad luck. This belief has been present in ancient Greece and the Roman Empire, where reflected images were believed to have mysterious powers. Superstitions are also prevalent in every human culture, with some Asian societies believing that sweeping a floor after sunset brings bad luck, while others in the U. S. panic if they accidentally walk under a ladder or see a black cat cross their path. Additionally, many tall buildings do not label their 13th floors due to their association with bad luck.

How do you stop the curse of a broken mirror?

It is a common belief that breaking a mirror can result in seven years of misfortune if not rectified promptly. To negate this, the broken mirror should be cast into a south-running stream, thereby washing away the malevolent influence and restoring good fortune within a seven-hour period. This expeditious technique can salvage one’s soul and should be employed with haste, before the opportunity for positive change is lost. The act of breaking a mirror has the potential to incite chaos and evoke strong emotions among those who adhere to superstitious beliefs.

Why is it 7 years bad luck to break a mirror?

Why is it 7 years bad luck to break a mirror?

The ancient Romans first suggested that a broken mirror brought seven years of bad luck, as life would renew itself every seven years and any broken parts of life, such as health issues, would be fixed. If a mirror smashed and reflected your image, you would endure seven years of misfortune before the curse ended and good luck was renewed.

To prevent this bad luck, one could bury the shattered pieces by the moon or touch them against a tombstone in a graveyard. However, these methods are not recommended today. If a mirror is broken, it is likely okay to sweep up the pieces.

Fragments of highly polished obsidian found in Turkey, dating back to 6000BC, are believed to be some of the first examples of man-made mirrors. In those days, if a person glimpsed their reflection, they believed they were seeing their soul staring back at them. Damage to the reflection would damage the soul.

How do you get rid of a broken mirror spiritually?

To avoid bad luck, scatter pieces of paper in the ground at night to avoid spirits. Bring a friend and be cautious of moonlight. If you can still see your reflection in a mirror, your soul is safe. Carrying a good luck charm, such as a four leaf clover or horseshoe, can also help. The superstition of seven years of bad luck is rooted in Roman times, where it was believed it took seven years for a soul to renew itself. The oldest mirrors we know date back to Anatolia in 6, 000 BC.

What is 7 years of bad luck?

The ancient Romans believed that a broken mirror would bring seven years of bad luck, as it was believed that only poor health would cause a mirror to crack. The Romans saw seven as the number of years required to complete a full life-cycle of sickness and renewal. This meant a death-spiral that might take seven years to escape. However, they believed that gathering broken mirror pieces and burying them by moonlight could prevent this outcome.

Another superstition associated with broken objects is “stepping on a crack”, which is seen as a portal to the realm of the supernatural for both good and ill. Stepping on cracks might invite or release unwelcome spirits into the world, ready to cause harm.

How to reverse bad luck?

Bad luck is a common belief that people have a negative impact on their lives. It has been a part of human culture since ancient times, with various practices such as shamrocks, rabbit feet, horseshoes, and jade used to ward off bad luck. Despite advancements in science and technology, the idea of bad luck remains deeply ingrained in the human psyche. People often seek explanations for their experiences, and sometimes “bad luck” is the only one that fits. However, if you’re constantly questioning “why do I have bad luck?”, it might be time to reexamine your own decisions and shift your mindset to a more empowering perspective.

Some people have experienced bad luck, such as Tsutomu Yamaguchi being in both Hiroshima and Nagasaki during the atomic bombings, Costis Mitsotakis not being asked to chip in for a winning lottery ticket, and Ann Hodges being struck by a meteorite. By believing in yourself, recognizing your need for growth, changing your story, focusing on success, stopping negative thought patterns, seeing problems as gifts, practicing gratitude, and facing your fears, you can overcome bad luck and achieve a more positive outlook on life.

How do you reverse mirror breaking luck?

The broken mirror superstition, believed to date back to the Romans, suggests that breaking a mirror will bring 7 years of bad luck. The Romans believed that the reflection in a mirror represents not only one’s physical appearance but also one’s soul. Breaking a mirror would require waiting for a new soul to rid oneself of the bad luck, hence the 7 years of bad luck. Some people also believe that mirrors were devices of the Gods, angering them and tormenting the person responsible for breaking the mirror.

To break this curse, one can throw salt over their left shoulder, spin in a circle three times, grind the mirror into a find powder, toss the broken mirror into a South Running Stream, blacken the mirror with fire, or bury the mirror.

  • so my eyeshadow palette was on the floor and either me or my brother stepped on it around a week ago and I only noticed right now that the mirror was cracked in the upper left corner. the problem is it’s a brand new eyeshadow palette but the shards are still glued all the way in! I threw salt over my shoulder and crawled under the table. i also knocked on wood three times to ward off evil spirits and I have 2 lucky coins that I place under 2 fingers of the one hand as a good luck charm. is there anything I can do? would painting the smaller shards of the mirror (almost like an art project) count as repurposing it?

  • Those are cute suggestions. If people are that superstitious. I went down this Mirror rabbit hole to see why, they are always breaking mirrors in hollywood. Mostly every movie that we watch with mirrors in them, somebody has to break one. So I was just curious of why? I know without on we can’t see our own personal faces. Anyway still a mirror is just made of glass. It’s something humans invented by their hands. Just glass and special paint inbtween them. Although people can conjure up spirits in the air, man did not create the super natural we did not create the spirits. So whatever we create it’s just from the dust. The best thing to know is to know what that mirror was before it was a mirror and see it as that. Reflection is everywhere especially in the movies. So we can see that in the water, or through anything like a glass tv screen, when it is off or even a window in the dark. Does that mean that spirits are lurking there or do we create our own illusions? Remember GOD created our minds so our minds are strongest. More than what an image of an illusion can. If it is broken it doesn’t mean you have shattered your dreams because whatever was in the mirror was your past. Not your future. So if you break it. Then you’ve actually erased your past. After so many years of seeing what you really didn’t like in that mirror it might give you good luck ahead to break those spirits. So instead of believing you just gave yourself bad luck. Put it behind you and say Muzzle Tov!! Lol.

  • The most successful countermeasure I have used for any and all bad luck is as follows. Generously tip everyone with whom you have had contact since the bad luck event. These tips can be monetary but can also be helpful household tips, helpful living tips, helpful relationship tips, etc. The people you tip will have good feelings toward you and will counterbalance your bad luck. Because Karma is powerful and works both ways.

  • Something a guy on Quora said, so you will be less scared. The saying exists but it is just that—a saying. It does not reflect how the world actually works. There is absolutely no causal relationship between breaking mirrors and either good or bad luck ocurring. There is a correlation between mirrors and luck though; the problem however is a correlation can be created literally between any two things, e.g. a rise in piracy with a global increase in temperature. Correlations can be absolutely absurd things (as per my example), e.g. like black cats crossing your path indicating bad luck is on the way OR breaking mirrors leads to bad luck. Nothing is going on except in your own individual fallacious reasoning. Nada. Picture it this way: there’s also a saying that if a black cat crosses your path you will experience bad luck. Well, how many owners of black cats are there? I suspect millions. Do they have demonstrably poorer luck—lose their job, fall down stairs, get cancer, fail at winning lotteries—than people who own white cats or no cats at all? I suspect everyone is equally “unlucky” (whatever that means).

  • Just a few questions. What happens if you visit a haunted house ride & you see your reflection in the broken mirror? Also what if a neighbor left their broken mirror out in their yard for garbage pickup & you passed by it but didn’t directly look at it? And lastly what if all these scenarios happened a few years ago & you don’t have the mirror because it was thrown away or belonged to the ride/attraction itself? Can you still do all these tricks or is it too late?

  • Since last time I don’t know if I’m clumsy or what I always broken mirror accidentally or not by accident . Every mirror I have will be broken whether it’s big or small solid strong or light . I rmb the renovation people come and fix new big mirror in my room they even broke it and need come back with new one to install . I don’t know what’s wrong with me . So unfortunate . • Help. I broke a mirror out of anger four years ago and trust me, this thing is not a coincidence and as I never thought this would happen to me, the truly terrible love life – it just happened. So the problem is I have no pieces left from the mirror it was thrown in the trash so after perusal the tips, my only option is to throw salt and spin 3 times? Any better ideas? And to the non-believers, I had an awesome love life before and never thought I could have lonely times for such a long period. As you can guess, I never believed the broken mirror might be the reason. But now I just want to break this curse and be happy with my love relations. Stay safe and healthy!

  • I accidently broke a mirror when a dropped a remote control on one after someone else had left the mirror on the table. I looked at my reflection, but then watched this article, threw salt over my left shoulder and spun counter clockwise, I washed the mirror under the tap facing it south. now the mirror is wrapped up in newspaper and in the trash

  • I just stepped on my $1 hand held mirror tonight while holding my almost 9month old daughter cause she just got out of the bath and I didn’t know it was on the floor 🤦🏻‍♀️ I crushed it up tonight I plan to take it outside tomorrow and crush it some more but I’m nervous as crap I been dealing with bad luck for years already this really sucks ☹️

  • Great article, I have a wall of mirrors that I need to remove for a home renovation project. Eight mirrors in all. How do I prevent bad luck. Also in the part where you suggest using the broken mirror for a project, “pretend you broke them on purpose” since I am breaking them on purpose does that mean I’m safe?

  • Please help me. I looked up that you got to Grind up the mirror into dust and throw it into the wind, so I used a hammer to break it up, and my grandma came in while I was grinding it and told me to throw it away, so I threw it away and I didn’t want to but she made me, im so scared, I’m only 13 and I prayed, but salt on my left shoulder, and I was spinning around 3 times counter clockwise. PLUS AFTER I CRACKED IT I SAW MY REFLECTION IM SO SCARED HELPPPPP

  • So I am an Amazon driver and basically I backed up and hit a tree, which broke the driver’s side side mirror. My Mom was born on Friday the 13th, so I am wondering if I am immune because of that. Also, technically, the tree broke it, not me. Any steps I should take? I didn’t collect the broken mirror…it is basically crushed and none of the glass actually fell off to my knowledge. I am 29 and was hoping my 30s would be better than my 20s, so any advice to help me would be appreciated. Don’t want to spend 7 years with bad luck. Also, the song “Mirror” by Justin Timberlake played right as I turned the radio on when I got done with work and was driving the work van back where it belongs. What are the chances of that?!

  • Help!! okay so last week i accidentally broke my mirror and just now I kicked it for fun but not meaning to brake it and now I’ve had my phone accidentally in the washer and I stepped on one of the mirror pieces im lowkey scared but the mirror is all in the frame and I left it sitting somewhere safe I twirled 3 times im freaking out my anxiety is out of the roof right now.

  • Today is Friday the 13th and everyone at my school was complaining that it was a bad day for them. I was getting ready to take a shower and for some reason I grabbed my my hand held mirror and wrapped it in my towel. Well, I went to go give something to my brother, while holding my stuff, and out came the mirror and it shattered. I did some of the stuff in the article to prevent the bad luck (the first thing I did was the salt one). During the times I was doing the stuff in the article, I kept experiencing minor bad things and I kept saying, “The bad luck has already started! 😭”

  • I became 16 in January, next month I accidentally broke 1 mirror, and then next month I broke another 1 mirror again, and another next month I broke a mirror again, and then again!. If 1 mirror is broken it means I have 7th year badluck, what happened if four mirrors? 😢. Do I have a very bad, badluck?. And now my mother and me are not in good relationship 😞

  • I broke my mirror that was in my wallet purse so idk if it still is considered bad luck if I didn’t see my reflection sense my wallet purse was closed when I accidentally stepped on it I also do have an evil eye bracelet that I haven’t worn in a few days maybe its time to put it on again 🙂 I just don’t know what to do with the broken pieces of the mirror and I don’t want to throw my purse wallet away because it is still in good use and I really like it but I also wouldn’t mind getting a new one just incase.

  • So I think I broke my mirror because I was in a rush and I needed to still do my eye makeup and I had a small medium kinda size mirror and I put it in my bag that had folders and books and I was rushing out the door and when I went to the car, I opened my bag and the mirror was broken. But I couldn’t do much at the time and my dad was driving me so I put the mirror pieces in a bag and he said he would throw it out. Should I be worried about both of us or just me? But I didn’t think much of it but during the day I spun around because I was playing with my niece so am I okay or what should I do????

  • It’s been 4 years since i chipped a mirror and yes i seen or been through unlucky stuff im kinda scared but i believe in god and my gf thru away the chipped mirror but ima ride this one out hopefully this 3 years get better than those 4 years and it’s like a nightmare i can’t wake up from but i tried to make the best of things i’m like optimistic with things.

  • I was having an argument with my mother And got angry I firstly smashed my iPhone and later took the sword and smashed the big mirror In my house and my grandma took sword from my hand I threatened my mom that if she speaks again I will take my mothers head out from the same sword… does that bring me a bad luck

  • When i was vey young, i broke all the mirrors in my house, I never do any ritual or anything, my mother was catholic and don’t belive in any ritual. …I broke maybe 7or 8 all my mother was keeping buying, the mirrors broke just by looking my self, by holding the mirror, I never understand why I was young, so here im 65 years of age, very healthy with 2 wonderful sons, i has traveled all over the world, never had a surgery, i got separate separated from my husband, but lots of people separate without breaking any mirrors, so don’t belive any of superstition

  • This might be true. I broke a mirror on accident last year and didn’t do nothing about it n my ent surgeon ended up framing me and setting me up to intentionally injury me brutally in secret over racial bias. Everything has been so rough since. I’m not sure if this is what caused it but my life has been so hard ever since. This doctor intentionally paralysed both of my cricothyroid muscles in secret and I was refused any imaging until the wounds were pretty much healed to help hide the evidence. I wasn’t even suppose to have surgery n they did all this in secret n even framed my initial symptom complaints to match my new symptom complaints and used my anxiety and depression disorder as leverage to make it seem as if I was having some delusional/psychotic episode instead. All other other health providers tried to quickly help him cover this up and refused me care. If this ain’t bad luck idk what is. I can’t even find a lawyer at the moment.

  • This wasnt to helpful for me. The mirror itself isnt broken but it was attached to 2 other mirrors. It was a vanity. Now every time I purposely sare at it it looks like it’s smiling cruelty at me. Also in the year it has neen broken i have lost all my friends and been rejected 3 times. And my brother went to live in another state

  • So I took my mirror off the wall and laid it face down to retire the string at the back. As it was facile down on the floor it cracked and broke. I wasn’t looking into it it was just reflecting the floor. Do I still get bad luck? When I lifted it up I didn’t look into it. But my partner did. Does he get back luck even though he didn’t break it and wasn’t looking into it when it broke? Please help

  • Please I need your help, I was looking at the mirror 🪞, and it fell down and broke it’s been a week now Luck everything I do nice this week don’t work out.. this will cost me a lot, I don’t know what to do … I still have the mirror pieces do I put salt on them… Please tell me what to do it been 1 week now …do I have to do the 7 thing stated in the article or just one? Accidentally I don’t know how they got on the floor but I stepped out of my broken and now I feel like there’s something constantly touching me for my inside of my bed it scares me I need some good luck I used to have plenty of it and now I don’t have any I need help please somebody

  • Thank you for these tips I really enjoyed your article. I came across other superstitions or beliefs such as reflections not matching, black mirrors, mirrors as portals, magic mirrors, haunted or cursed mirrors and mirror feng shui… i once visited a museum with a silver mirror that belonged to the captain of the titanic, legend is he appears each year on the anniversary of the tragedy. I also read a Chinese myth that claims reflections you see in the mirror are not reflections at all, but were in fact, another species entirely / demons pretending to be us and silently plot our death. Their world is said to be completely different than ours As crazy as it sounds there is an actual recorded event that took place in history from 2697B where our reflections (referred to as mirror fauna) stepped out from the mirror and attacked humanity. They were successfully banished back by the Yellow Emperor Huang Di.. the world of Mirrors can be so bizarre !
