How To Use A Sta-Rite Filter To Empty A Pool?

The STA-RITE System 3 Cartridge filter is designed to filter water for swimming pools and spas. To clean it, follow these steps: 1) Turn off the pool pump to prevent accidents or injuries. 2) Open the air release valve and drain fitting on top of the filter tank to release all pressure from inside the tank and system. 3) Wait until all pressure is released and water is drained from the filter tank and system before loosening clamp knobs.

To prepare your swimming pool for winter closing, drain your water level to 4″ below your skimmer and add a backwash hose to your filter system to drain without draining. The filter outlet piping will not empty through the filter drain, so make sure that the outlet piping has a separate drain for winterizing.

Inspect the system general by washing the outside of the filter with a soft flow nozzle. The Sta-Rite PLM Series Media Pool Filter is easy to clean and filters better than a paper cartridge filter. To clean the filter, turn off the pool pump to prevent accidents or injuries.

When using a Sta-Rite pump and trap, tighten the pump trap lid to 30 ft. lbs. (4.1 kg-m.) torque before testing. Water pressure for testing must be 25 PSI (172 psi). Shut off the pump, unscrew the drain plug from the back of the filter, and turn the pump back on to let the water run until it reaches the point where you want to clean.
