Should I sleep with my tarot cards?

Tarot cards can be a helpful tool for interpreting your emotions and thoughts. If you pull a card with positive connotations or intentions that you want to dream about, sleeping with it can be beneficial. However, some people may find the energy distracting for sleep. If you feel pulled to sleep with a card, go for it. If you are constantly stirring, remove it and try to fall asleep again. Daily tarot readings provide a moment for self-reflection and calmness, making them a quick and effective mental check-in. Getting into the habit of pulling tarot cards can help you improve your sleep and overall well-being.

How to cleanse and bless a new tarot deck?

This text describes a method for cleansing a deck using incense lighting. The process involves fanning out the deck, passing the front and back of the fan through the smoke, or cleansing each card individually. The author prefers the latter method as it allows for a personal touch and a chance to chant a blessing. The ritual can be personalized by creating a blessing. Once the smoke has cleansed the cards, they can be left to sit with a crystal or placed on a windowsill in the moonlight or sun. The process can be done immediately to start working with the new deck.

How do I choose the right tarot deck for me?

Look for a Beginner-Friendly Deck. As a beginner, it’s a good idea to choose a tarot card deck designed with novices in mind. Look for decks that come with a guidebook or companion booklet that explains the meanings and interpretations of each card. These resources will give you a solid foundation for understanding the cards, and you can progress from there.

Consider Your Intuitive Connection. Tarot cards are all about intuition, so having a personal connection with your chosen deck is crucial. As you explore different cards, pay attention to how the deck makes you feel. Do the cards feel welcoming and in tune with your energy, or do they create resistance?

Your intuition will guide you to the right choice. Trust your instincts, as they play an important role in being able to connect with and interpret the cards effectively.

To recharge the deck, place the desired crystal on the surface, cover it with a silk cloth, and allow it to rest undisturbed for approximately 12 hours. Once the deck has been cleared, the cards should be held in the hands and the practitioner should meditate on the process of charging them with their own mental and spiritual energy.

What to do first when you get a new tarot deck?

Upon opening a new Tarot deck, it is essential to take the time to thoroughly examine each card. This includes shuffleing the deck, cleansing and blessing the cards, and performing a reading to get to know the new deck. This experience is a unique and unforgettable one, offering new art, ideas, and opportunities. However, the process of breaking in a new deck can be cumbersome and awkward, making it difficult to read.

Additionally, the challenge of learning a new spiritual language through pictures can present hurdles for intuitive Tarot readers who use the imagery for meditative divination and may struggle with the new imagery for stricter readers who commit their interpretations to memory.

Many practitioners of divination develop habits and rituals for breaking in new Tarot decks before performing official readings. Some practical suggestions for physical breaking-in include shuffleing the deck, cleansing and blessing the cards, and performing a reading to get to know the deck intuitively. However, it is important to note that these are just suggested methods and should not be considered the definitive guide to understanding a new Tarot deck.

In summary, the process of breaking in a new Tarot deck involves a thorough examination of each card, shuffleing it, cleansing and blessing the cards, and performing a reading to get to know the deck on an intuitive level.

Tarot cards are a divination tool that requires occasional clearing. They reflect, amplify, and mirror energy, making them an extension of one’s energy. Clearing your cards before each reading can help maintain a clear and accurate reading. Some methods include smoke, shuffling, knocking, crystals, flower petals, salt, full moon bath, and sunlight.

Tarot cards are an extension of one’s energy, and clearing them can provide an instant mood boost. Keeping your space clean and tidy can also provide a sense of rest and calming, especially for those who are sensitive to energy. Naude recommends the Rider Waite Smith tarot for beginners to familiarize themselves with the foundation of tarot practice. The four elements (earth, water, fire, and air) and numerology play a large role in the tarot, as most people already have some ideas about the meanings that can be drawn on. By doing so, the interpretations can be more personal and freer, as it allows for a more personal perspective.

Is it OK to pull tarot cards for yourself?

Tarot readings can be done by beginners, providing insight into current situations, honoring intuition, and forecasting potential outcomes. To begin, clean the energy of your space by burning herbs, ringing bells or chimes, taking a bath, or using crystals. A Selenite wand is a popular energy refresher that aids clarity.

Sit comfortably and close your eyes, focusing on the protective energy surrounding you. Take deep breaths, think about your question or needing guidance, and keep your mind and heart open to the answers that may come through the cards. Shuffle the deck, focusing on your desired query, and shuffle the cards in front of you. The pattern laid out is called a “spread”, and the meaning of each card in combinations builds up to the overall answer to your query.

Before beginning to shuffle, know which spread you will be working with. As answers come through, it’s important to draw additional cards for further clarity or start with a new question from a different perspective. Tarot readings can be a powerful tool for personal growth and understanding.

  • Spread Positions: 1. What is your task as a deck & what can you teach me? 2. What is your perception of yourself as a deck? 3. How do you see me as a reader? 4. How can I best work with & learn from you? 5. Where do we connect in a working relationship? 6. What new passions & talents might you inspire in me? 7. What shadows of mine will you help me bring to light & love? Enjoy your new deck! 🙂

  • New to tarot, first deck. Did a LOT of shuffling but this is my first spread ever with it. From what I gather we have a lot of bonding to do and my deck has attitude, but I might just have to do more research on the card meanings. I’ve only been referencing the book that came with the deck. 1. 3 of swords 2. 5 of swords 3. Temperance (R) 4. Queen of cups 5. King of swords (R) 6. The Devil (R) 7. Queen of wands (R)

  • Just did this spread today, I got: 1. Ace of Swords 2. Six of Pentacles 3. The Fool 4. The Lovers 5. Two of Swords (Reversed) 6. Justice 7. Four of Pentacles Despite making sure my cards aren’t reversed, I opened the 5th card and it was in reverse. I was about to turn it upright, however the fact all of the cards were all upright except the 5th card I decided to leave the reversed card alone. Reading the cards gave me insight about my deck, and the fact that I got the 3rd card as the fool really surprised me… especially it’s true that I am a beginner with in the tarot world. I welcome any insight about my drawn cards/ second opinion.

  • Lol I got my deck awhile back but interviewed it today to start working with it. And for “what’s your 1st impression of me?” I got 3 of cups reversed… essentially I took that to mean I’m sad, lonely, and friendless and I can’t even be mad about it cause it’s accurate 😭 Also got called out for “how can I best work with you.” Got page of pentacles reversed, I interpreted it as I need to get off my booty, work hard, and stop procrastinating 😅 “what new talents or passions might you inspire in me?” was exciting though. I got page of cups upright. I interpreted it as psychic development and rediscovering my creative roots. Something very important to me since I’m an artist 😊

  • I have The Good Tarot. I did this relationship building with my new deck. Here is what I got: 1. Magician 2. Chariot 3. 10 of Earth 4. 5 of Air 5. Page of Air 6. King of Water 7. 3 of Earth. I am now even more happy with my deck. It is omitting such positive energy. No wonder it is called “the good tarot” 😋

  • I wrote down a few different interview question lists from different people for interviewing my new tarot deck. I very quickly realised that my deck was answering the questions on your list. I’m in awe. Thank you. It feels incredible to have had this conversation with my cards. The questions/answers that pertained to me were so accurate.

  • I got my tarot deck yesterday and I have found that so far I like the shuffling method when trying to communicate to my deck so some of the questions came out with two cards instead of one – but I really feel connected to my deck after the interview! 1. Eight of pentacles 2. The fool 3. Seven of Cups 4. Eight of wands 5. Page of Pentacles & king of wands 6. The Empress and Ace of Pentacles 7. Two of Pentacles (R)

  • Just got my Beautiful Afro Goddess Tarot Sunday. I know it’s going to be my forever deck so I wanted to connect with it asap. This was my response 1) The World & IV of Swords 2) Judgement (reverse) have a feeling this deck will be very straight forward/cut throat 3) Justice 4) The Hierophant & VIII of Pentacles 5) VIII of Swords 6) VI of Cups 7) IV of Cups

  • I did that, and let me tell you, I stopped, i looked at the cards and I got this inner happiness, the colours, the images, cannot explain it with words .. Although I am still a bit confused on how properly to read everything, 3 and 7 were spot on. 1 – The Lovers. 2- Seven of Cups 3- Ten of Wands 4 – Temperance 5- The World 6- Ten of Cups 7- Four of Pentacles ☺️☺️

  • Here’s what I got! 1. Strength 2. The hanged man 3. two of cup 4. Eight of pentacles 5. Seven of Pentacles 6. 6 of cups 7. The high priestess I never thought of interviewing my tarot deck, I have had mine for a couple months! My deck really just wants to help me grow and mature 🙂 but god my deck looses its anger sometimes lol. I feel like it’s a very caring for me and I really love that 🥺

  • So I just did this with the Tarot of the Divine and she was very direct and intuitive. It was like having a conversation with an older Sagittarian lol. This is what she gave me: 1. The Hierophant 2. Knight of Cups 3. Queen of Coins 4. Ten of Cups 5. Seven of Coins 6. Ace of Wands 7. She threw out two: Eight of Cups and Ten of Wands She seemed to know a lot about me already, so I asked her an eighth question: How do you feel about working with me? She gave me the Queen of Cups. Felt we hit it off pretty well.

  • I have been working with my decks for a few weeks before discovering your websites. I did this interview with my main deck. 1. The Magician 2. 5 of Pentacles reversed 3. The High Priestess reversed 4. 2 of Wands reversed 5. 5 of Swords 6. Ace of Pentacles reversed 7. 3 of Wands I love how the Magician and the High Priestess showed up in the spread. I feel like she told me she could teach me magic and all kind of powerful reading, but I need to trust my intuition more because I am not prepared for it, I am quite the high priestess yet.

  • Just did this with my Tarot of the Pagan Cats deck. Interviewing or having a conversation with a deck is not something I had heard of doing until recently. I’ve dabbled very briefly with tarot cards a few times but never got pulled in. That is until more recently. I’ve had this deck for a few years now and have only used it a few times. If anyone has different interpretations to these cards, I’d be curious to hear them as I am a novice at reading. My cards with some keywords of my interpretations for those curious and scrolling by: 1. King of Wands – To inspire and impassion 2. Queen of Wands – Nuturing, inspiring, passionate 3. The Star – Soft, gentle, a guide 4. Two of Pentacles – Maintain balance 5. Four of Wands Reversed – Instability, Resistance 6. Judgement – Grow, transform 7. Seven of Cups Reversed – Seeking escape, ambiguity This deck’s task and perception of itself are so aligned in 1 and 2! (The image of the Queen of Wands is an adult cat looking over a kitten!) 3 was like a warm hug, especially sitting next to the card in 2. 5 gave me issues. The tiny guidebook that came with this deck only said “working with no fun or rest” so I turned to the internet to get a broader look. Instability and resistance seemed more appropriate giving my on and off again relationship with the deck so far. Thoughts on this? 6 was a head scratcher at first as well as my initial thought was “How does judgement inspire anything?” The guidebook was really vague here but the internet helped clear it up.

  • I just started my journey with Tarot today. I tried connecting with my deck and practiced this spread. My cards were: 1. 10 of cups (upright) 2. The Hermit (reversed) 3. The Chariot (upright) 4. King of swords (reversed) 5. Ace of swords (upright) 6. The Hierophant (upright) 7. 8 of wands (reversed) It would be great if someone could help me understand this. Thanks for the great article. Really help me introduce myself to the deck.

  • Thank you for this illuminating deck interview! I just interviewed my first “real” deck and found that we have such a connection. The answers were: 1. Nine of Pentacles 2. Temperance 3. The Star 4. The Lovers 5. Four of Wands 6. Page of Swords 7. Page of Cups I got very patient and healing vibes from this deck. It’s exactly what I was hoping to find. It seems to know that I’m a tarot newbie and that I was hoping to consult it on personal dilemmas and life’s bigger questions. I’m really excited to get to know this deck more. Thanks!

  • You have no idea how helpful this is!!! For Spring I unpacked Tarot of the Old Path (as well the Fairy Tarot and the Mystic Faerie Tarot) and it has been a bit challenging to interpret in the weeks I’ve been using it. I’m an intuitive reader so I don’t rely on the right mind to interpret the cards meaning, I pick up on elements within the card that gives me the Insight of the meaning. This particular deck’s art is a bit green technically speaking and the white expressions of the court cards are hard to read. I’m going to interview the deck tomorrow and find out how to best work with it. Namastè 🕊🕊🕊🕊

  • My spread with a brand new out of the box deck after cleansing it with a few selenite. Interesting cards compared to my last rws recreation deck that got moved on just afterwards. This deck is the Field Tarot 1. Two of pentacles. Change. 2. The sun – interesting placement in this spread I thought 3. The tower – it’s about me and not untrue me thinks 4. Six of cups. Innocence – not sure if this was a mistake card or not, another interesting one 5. The moon. Got the sun and moon in this spread and shuffled lots. Keyword that caught me, intuition. Reason I bought this deck with its keywords on the cards. Apparently they aren’t on the majors though! 6. Page of swords. Curiosity, I liked that placement very much. 7. The fool – beginnings. Interesting thoughts bubble up with that keyword and the question. Any insights from anyone else?

  • Thank you for sharing. 7 of coins King of cup 8 of swords 2 of coins The fool The hanged man with 2 of swords (fell out during shuffle) Temperance reversed with heirophant and the tower (also fell during shuffling) I used the 3 cards that fell to further clarify 7 and 8. The deck interview went well for me.

  • Just got my first deck and interviewed it and here’s what it told me! I shuffled it a lot before and during the interview. I really feel like my deck and I are gonna be great friends and it’s gonna guide me very well through life :,) 1. Justice 2. King of Pentacles 3. Knight of Wands 4. 6 of swords 5. 10 of cups 6. 2 of cups 7. Judgement

  • I got my everyday tarot over five days now and this is the first time I interviewed the card. It is my first deck and it’s calm, collected, intellectual. 1. Knight of wands 2. Knight of swords 3. Six of pentacles 4. Ace of cups 5. Ten of pentacles (R) 6. Eight of pentacles 7. King of wands Thank you for this vid, lovelots!

  • I got 1. 2 of wands 2. Page of wands 3. Wheel of fortune 4. Justice 5. Queen of cups 6. The tower 7. The high priestess Number 41 Summary Teach me to make changes, travel from the other side to be a women of 25 years, completing phases, finding out the truth, motherly relationship, inspire me to face my fears, secrets to be revealed

  • My first spread with my first deck (that my husband got me as a wedding gift last weekend!) it’s called the revelations tarot. I initially felt a lot of anxiety and worry opening this deck on procrastinated using it for a good hour before finally settling on doing this deck interview to start: 1. 8 of pentacles (R) 2. The Sun 3. Queen of Wands (R) 4. King of Cups 5. King of Pentacles (R) 6. Page of Wands (R) 7. Seven of Swords (R) Using my companion book I kind of felt a negative vibe/like maybe now isnt the time to start this journey so I pulled two extras in relation to this spread to clarify: – is now not the right time to be starting this journey? Three of Wands Thought ‘hmm maybe that wasn’t clear enough let me make sure and ask a different way. -is now the right time to be starting this journey? Queen of swords Does anybody have a different interpretation of my initial spread that doesn’t feel so negative lol 😂😂😂 I did a couple of past/present/future readings with the deck after that about life situations I have a clue of but there’s some uncertainty. I will say I felt like it was spot on in why I was asking the questions and what my current state is/things surrounding the question.

  • i just got my deck today. and i have took my time with each card but i think i’m having trouble understanding what’s behind the meanings. but this was my interview. 1. the chariot 2. the lovers 3. death (reversed) 4. the hanged man (reversed) 5. justice (reversed) 6. ten of coins 7. four of coins if anyone could give me any insight please comment.

  • I got 1. Death.(upright) 2. 10 of cups(reversed) 3. Page of cups(upright) 4.knight of cups(reversed) 5.queen of cups(upright) 6.the emperor(upright) 7.the empress(upright) Can you please tell me what this means I’ve looked them all up but I don’t know how they can answer my question if you do thank you

  • 1. What is your task as a deck & what can you teach me? – KNIGHT OF SWORDS 2. What is your perception of yourself as a deck? – 3 OF SWORDS REVERSED (The deck previously owned/used from my aunt, I have been cleansing them since she gifted them to me!) I pulled a few verification cards about why this card, and asked why or how did this happen? Pulled 8 OF CUPS Reversed. I then asked, after healing from these wounds and having me as a companion now, how would you like to best imagine yourself? – THE HIEROPHANT … Wow, I was amazed… 3. How do you see me as a reader? – 9 OF SWORDS, I clarified this and the cards that followed made so much sense… 4. How can I best work with & learn from you? – STRENGTH 5. Where do we connect in a working relationship? – TEMPERANCE 6. What new passions & talents might you inspire in me? – ACE OF PENTACLES 7. What shadows of mine will you help me bring to light & love? – 8 OF PENTACLES THIS WAS AMAZING, THANK YOU!

  • I’ve been using this deck for awhile, but I never thought to interview it. I’ve always used it as my personal life deck, and I’m pretty sure that’s pretty up to par with the interview Cards 1. 7 of Pentacles 2. Death 3. The Tower (which is honestly pretty fitting for my life, sadly but honestly) 4. Ace of Pentacles 5. The Hermit 6. 5 of wands 7. Ace of Swords This deck is the Wild Unknown deck by the way 🙂

  • It’s interesting how I got The High Priestess for how the deck sees itself as when it has the word “secret” in its title, it felt like it took the cake! I feel like the deck is very in tune and is great at correlation because a few cards were related to each other and proves its point even further: 1. King of Cups 2. The High Priestess 3. 9 of Wands 4. 8 of Wands 5. 4 of Cups 6. Page of Wands 7. The World I was kind of confused on the 4 of Cups for question 5 though…

  • I recently got the Tarot de la nuit and I wanted to start connecting with it through asking general questions before asking personal questions and this article really helped me understand my deck. Here’s what I got. 1. The lovers 2. Knight of swords 3. The hermit (this freaked me out a bit because when I asked it perception of me as a reader it gave me this card, the hermit is my birth card ) 4. 7 of wands 5. The magician 6. 5 of swords 7. 6 of wands I would love to hear anyone else’s understanding of this reading 💛
