The Penitential Rite is a crucial part of the Catholic Mass, serving as a solemn moment of communal repentance. It is omitted when used, and the Mass continues with the Gloria or Opening Prayer on most Sundays and solemnities. The priest can skip the Act of Penitence and the Kyrie Eleison by Church permission or instruction. On some occasions, when the Mass is joined to another rite such as the celebration of a sacrament or the Divine Office, the penitential rite can be omitted.
The purpose of penance in Lent is to turn away from sin and return to God. This can take many forms, such as apologizing to an injured party, healing divisions within families, fasting during the Lenten season, or graciously accepting menial tasks of life. The Penitential Act is omitted, and the Ashes are blessed and distributed after the homily. The Creed is omitted, and the Universal Prayer is said.
Lent is a time for repentance, which includes some form of penance to express sorrow and desire to renew our lives. The Rite of Penance requires the penitent to offer a heartfelt “prayer of the penitent” that expresses sorrow for sin. The Kyrie is omitted when the celebrant unexpectedly uses the confiteor and the musicians don’t notice and launch into the Gloria right after the absolution.
Lent has its own special rules, and certain things should not be done in Lent. If certain celebrations are combined with Mass, the Penitential Act and other parts of the Introductory Rites are omitted or performed differently. Venal sins are forgiven during the penitential rite, but they are also forgiven by receiving forgiveness.

Are Sundays in Lent penitential?
Sunday is considered a “little Easter” by Christians, celebrating the Lord’s resurrection and victory over sin and death. It is not considered a day of penance but a day of rejoicing. Even in 325 AD, fasting, kneeling, and other sorrowful acts were forbidden on Sundays of Lent. The Council of Nicea held in 325 AD, dividing Lent into 40 days, with only 34 of them being for fasting, as Sundays didn’t count.
What prayer do we not say during Lent?
Christians are on a spiritual journey towards the Second Coming of Christ and future life in Heaven. During Lent, the Catholic Church removes the Alleluia from the Mass, emphasizing the penitential nature of this journey. Instead, Christians acknowledge their sins and practice repentance, hoping to one day worship God like angels. More information can be found at catholicism. about. com/od/worship/f/No_Alleluia. htm.
Is there a penitential rite during Lent?
During Lent, a different Penitential Rite is performed at Masses to focus on mercy. The priest invites everyone to remember their sins at the beginning of every Mass to prepare themselves for the Holy Mass. We are all sinners, and the battle against temptation and sin will be waged until the last day of our earthly life. Even the greatest saints saw the seriousness of even small venial sins, as they add up. At the start of Mass, we come clean together that we have not lived as we should.
During Lent, we should focus on our sin and our need for mercy. We confess our struggles and need Our Lord’s help to get the most out of receiving Him in the Eucharist. We acknowledge our faults and failings, and usually have a moment of silence after the priest’s invitation. We may convince ourselves that as long as we are not killing anyone, we are okay. However, we can find room for improvement and ask for forgiveness.
What is forbidden on Lent?
Lent fasting mandates strict abstinence from meat, including chickens, cows, sheep, ham, pigs, and birds. It is also common to avoid alcohol, sweets, and fast foods made from chicken and beef. However, seafood is a great meatless meal, as it contains high-quality protein, vitamins, and fatty acids that reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke. Regular intake of fruits and vegetables is essential for the body, as research from Harvard University shows that regular consumption lowers the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.
Can the penitential rite be omitted?
The Roman Missal clearly states that the “Kyrie eleison (Lord, have mercy) invocations” are not part of the Penitential Act. If the Roman Missal explicitly states that both the Penitential Act and the Kyrie are to be omitted, such as in the Vigil of Pentecost following First Vespers, any instruction omitting just the Penitential Act cannot refer both to the Penitential Act and the Kyrie. The Kyrie was present before the Penitential Act was formulated and made a part of the Mass.
The author(s) of the Roman Missal have been explicit in not making it seem as if the Penitential Act is a “holy swiffer” that sweeps up the “holy dust” of the Kyrie when the Penitential Act is omitted. To hem and haw about or excuse omitting the Kyrie whenever the Penitential Act is omitted is wrong, regardless of whether it has been done illicitly or through misunderstanding.
Is there a penitential rite on Easter Sunday?
The Penitential Act is a litany that begins the Mass by recalling sins and placing trust in God’s mercy. It includes the Greek phrase “Lord, have mercy” and recalls God’s merciful actions throughout history. On Sundays, especially during Easter Time, the blessing and sprinkling of water may take place instead. The Gloria, on Sundays, solemnities, and feasts, follows the Penitential Act, echoing the angels’ proclamation at the birth of Christ.
The gathered assembly joins the heavenly choirs in offering praise and adoration to the Father and Jesus through the Holy Spirit. The Introductory Rites conclude with the opening prayer, the Collect, which gathers all prayers into one and listens to the Word of God in the context of the celebration.
Does the penitential rite forgive mortal sins?
It should be noted that the penitential rite is only efficacious for the remission of venial sin; it is not applicable to the absolution of mortal sin. The latter must be confessed in the sacrament of confession.
What prayer is omitted during Lent?
The absence of the Alleluia and the Gloria in liturgical seasons is indicative of the penitential character of the season, as we await the advent of the Messiah and acknowledge our dependence on Jesus and His salvation.
Is the penitential rite omitted during Advent?
The Liturgy of the Hours is sometimes combined with Mass, as per the introduction to the Divine Office. The psalmody of morning prayer follows as usual, excluding the reading. After the psalmody, the penitential rite is omitted, followed by the Kyrie, followed by the Gloria if required by the rubrics, and the opening prayer of the Mass. The liturgy of the word follows as usual. This norm allows for both possibilities without any preference being shown by the rubrics.
What is the penitential service during Lent?
Lenten penance services are a time for Christians to reflect on their sins and confess them to the Lord. The service includes short readings from Scripture, a reflection on sin, an Examination of Conscience, and individual confessions. The season of Lent is an ideal time for the Lord to enter our hearts and lead us to conversion. To find penance services near you, visit the link provided. The opportunity to deepen our relationship with Jesus is waiting for those who attend these services.
What are the penitential practices for Lent?
On all other Fridays of the year, including Lent Fridays, the common practice of penance is fulfilled by performing various activities such as prayer, self-denial, and helping others. These activities include attending Mass, reading the Bible, making Stations of the Cross, praying the Rosary, not eating meat or sweets, giving up entertainment for family, and limiting food and drink to support the poor. Special attention is given to those in need.
📹 12 MORTAL SINS WHICH MUST BE CONFESSED FIRST BEFORE RECEIVING COMMUNION
To help understand and strengthen our belief in the Catholic Faith to the fullest, by sharing of testimonies, information, Catechisms …
Love this refresher. The problem or danger of “God loves us” is we turn into entitled individuals, falling into false notion we can do whatever we want because God forgives us anyway. As a regular Mass-goer, I am falling to this trap. Sure, confess our sins to God. But having a Confession first before taking His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity has that profound and compelling feeling: “I am worthy and qualified” to receive You. A petty analogy, but it is like passing a prerequisite subject before we are allowed to take the next one. May I develop this inner resolve and discipline not to participate if I haven’t confessed. God is never a legalist, yet we are called to be beyond the legalities called obedience and sacrifice. “Lord Jesus, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me, a sinner.”
Thank-you Fr. John for sharing and reminding us of the importance of making a truly good confessing of our mortal and venial sins before receiving the Body of Christ.I personally fear God so much because sins commited cannot be hidden from God. Everything to God is transparent under the sun. Hence, all Catholics are encouraged to make a 4:26 good confessing before receiving the Body of Christ during the Holy Eucharistic Celebration. May God richly bless ♥️🔥🎉😂 you Father John Corapi. Blessed Sunday night.
Thanks for this my brother im about to confess this week and im examining all of the sins that i committed venial and mortal and its look like i committed 2 mortal sins one of it is receiving communion with unconfess mortal sin. I’m gonna share this article cause there’s a lot of Catholics who don’t know or forgot about this and ik all of us are sinners but one thing i learned God’s Mercy is infinite, we must not be scared or be shy to go to confession it doesnt matter if its face2face or you personally know the priest what matters is if we want to receive God’s mercy let’s be fully confident to go to Confession. God bless us all
OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST IS TOO PURE TO TAKE HIS BIDY AND BLOOD WHEN WE HAVE SINNED … I HAVE NEVER TAKEN HIS HOLY BODY NOR BLOOD WHEN I WAS SINNING … ITS BEEN OVER 2 AND A HALF YEARS THAT I HAVE TURNED BACK TO OUR LORD JESUS AND HAVE REPENTED AND HAVE ASKED HIM FOR FORGIVENESS… NOW I HAVE TAKEN HIS BEAUTIFUL BODY AND BLOOD AND I GO TO CONFESSION WHENEVER I NEED TO … HE IS TRULY FORGIVENESS AND HE TRULY LOVES ALL HIS CHILDREN … REPENT AND ASK FOR FORGIVENESS AND ASK OUR LORD TO HELP U ARE GUIDE U TO HIS HOLY LIGHT … I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO HAPPY IN MY LIFE TILL I FOUND MY LORD JESUS CHRIST AGAIN … AND BELIEVE ME HE LISTENS 😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
POPE BENEDICT XVI: “When attending Mass and receiving the Eucharist, Catholic must be filled with gratitude for God’s great gifts. Despite the fact that we have nothing to give in return and we are full of faults, Jesus invites us to his table and wants to be with us.” ST. JOHN BAPTISTE DE LA SALLE: “Some say that they are not worthy to take communion often. We take communion not because we are holy, but in order to become so… Union with Jesus in communion makes us able to share in his holiness.”
Pre-emptive reminder that you are not in mortal sin unless your sin satisfies all three of these conditions: 1) Your action was objectively grave matter, 2) You did it with full knowledge of the gravity of the act, AND 3) You did it with full consent of the will. Regarding 5: the mere use of a contraceptive method is not sufficient to complete the offense. It must be done with the intent to prevent conception. A drug used for a legitimate medical purpose that has a contraceptive effect does not incur guilt.
One must not receive communion while in a state of mortal sin. That said, the sins listed would be mortal if freely entered. This represents a deliberate turning away from God. But there are many reasons why such sins might not be mortal. Did you hold back wages because your boss threatened to fire you if you didn’t? Fear is a mitigating factor. (But do work to resolve the issue. Start collecting evidence and looking for a new job.) Do you try hard to control your lust and fail? Physical needs might drive someone to do things they don’t want to do. Even venial sins need to be avoided. But God is merciful and understands we are weak. Do not let such temptations turn you away from God, but repent and seek God instead. God loves sinners, even you. BTW, the Eucharist washes away venial sin. Seek God and god’s protection from sin.
You cannot commit a mortal sin without knowing it. For a sin to be mortal there are three elements, all of which must be present otherwise no mortal sin has been committed. Those elements are Full Knowledge, Full Consent and Serious Matter. i.e. You must fully know that the matter is serious, you must fully consent to committing the act of your own free will and the matter itself must be of a mortally sinful nature.
Thank you for sharing Out of the 12 grave sins I committed 3 And I believe we all are sinners Because we sin in our words Our thoughts In our actions and in what we have failed to do to be obedient And nothing is hidden from God God knows everything Yet Father God loves the sinners That he gave his only begotten son Named Jesus to suffer the most painful death in order to redeem us and pay for our sins That whoever believes in Jesus Will not perish but will have eternal life . (John 3:16)
sadly mortal sin is in the 10 commandments just missing a holy mass falls into it. And one time I attended a weekday mass, and last confession was a year ago and miss masses alot, and yet all the attendees took the host and after that the priest looked at me wondering why i am not taking the host and waited for awhile as i was still in my pew. sadly as it is….even his assistant was like wondering as they taled for a moment. how sad as catholics takes the host as just like a bread.
It took me nearly a month to find a church that offered confession. It was a long time since my last confession. When I went into the confessional it was a room with two chairs. The priest occupied one and I sat on the other. What had happened to the confessional. I could not say a word, I was struck dumb, the Church had changed. Was the second Vatican Council the work of the Holy Spirit or Demonic, the Church is almost empty and after lock down there were 30vpeople at Mass.
Number 13 should be having some AI voice preaching about sin. If a man cannot preach this, something is very wrong with this site. From, mechanically read rosaries to virtual full full prayer books read with questionable editing by a machine for a few YouTube dollars is at best poor practice. Show your human face and I will ignore any stumbling words or pronunciation errors. The mechanical stuff is an invitation from the demonic with the camouflage of putting “Catholic” in the title. Wise up people: do not get suckered into hell by 90% accurate AI with 10% fabrication, perhaps demonic.
Nobody can enter heaven on their own efforts and that’s why Jesus came to be the lamb sacrifice for the entire sins of the world and everyone who calls on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ will be forevermore forgiven and saved for eternal life in heaven with Jesus. When we decide to call on Jesus having decided to follow Jesus forevermore then we’re snatched from darkness and brought into Jesus family and we become children of God with our sins forevermore forgiven. We’re then born again or born of God. Call on Jesus with your heart and receive the miracle of forgiveness and salvation and eternal life. ❤

This is such a poor and legalistic approach to sin. You need to discuss the three conditions the church talks of that need to be present before a mortal sin can be committed. There’s also the usual overemphasis on sexuality which characterised much of pre-Vatican II teaching. Many Catholics would disagree with the Church’s teaching on contraception for instance and the idea of ‘natural’ contraception v. ‘artificial’. You gloss over all the complexities
Some of these need to be updated to be more current with the changes in the world and times. I do not find some of these “sins” at the same level of others. There are many incredibly devout Catholics who live a very Christian life, but according to this would be considered sinners in the Catholic church. I am one of them. I think this is a big reason why many have either stopped attending mass regularly or have left the church completely.
Roman Catholic man made doctrine ALERT: – Bible does not say there is such thing as “mortal sin” in the way Roman ct concocted. – Roman ct claimed “only mortal sins lead to death”. Which means you can sin all you want with all other sins. – But Bible teaches “all sins lead to death”, Romans 6:23. Which means you cannot sin all you want anymore.
I would like to remind my catholic friends, having been a catholic of some importance for thirty years myself until finding a better path, That “mortal sins” is just sin in general which we all do. In order to take Holy Communion properly, a Saint must be right and proper with God the Father by confessing their sins, and restoring their righteousness. (Heb. 4:13, Ps 51:4, Ps 41:4, 130:4, Acts 8:22, & 1John 1:9) We must also remember that ALL sin is committed against God and therefore must be confessed to God and none other. Not a priest, as a priest doesn’t have the power to forgive sin, only God does through the power of the saving work Jesus did on the cross by dying you and for me. Also, we’re to call no man on this earth “father” for there is only one Father and that is our Heavenly Father as pointed out in Matthew 23:9
FACTS: About the catholic church: Change the Sabbath” Had she not such power, she could not have done that in which all modern religionists agree with her,- she could not have substituted the observance of Sunday, the first day of the week, for the observance of Saturday, the seventh day, a change for which there is no Scriptural authority.”- “A Doctrinal Catechism,” by Rev. Stephen Keenan, page 174. “The Catholic Church of its own infallible authority created Sunday a holy day to take the place of the Sabbath of the old law.”- Kansas City Catholic, Feb. 9, 1893. “The Catholic Church, . . . by virtue of her divine mission, changed the day from Saturday to Sunday.”- Catholic Mirror, official organ of Cardinal Gibbons, Sept. 23, 1893. “Ques.- Which is the Sabbath day? “Ans.- Saturday is the Sabbath day. “Ques.- Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday? “Ans.- We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church, in the Council of Laodicea (A. D. 336), transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday .”- “The Convert’s Catechism of Catholic Doctrine,” by Rev. Peter Geiermann, C. SS. R.., page 50, third edition, 1913, a work which received the “apostolic blessing” of Pope Pius X, Jan. 25, 1910. What was done at the Council of Laodicea was but one of the steps by which the change or the Sabbath was effected. The date usually given for this council is 364 A. D. FACTS: –… you may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday.
My husband and i who were married civilly more than 25 years ago. Cannot be an not be married in the Church as he had cancer of the prostate which left him impotent. We live as defined by the Church as “brother and sister” no intimacy whatsoever. Despite this he became Catholic. We have tried to resolve his impediment to no avail, so we can be married in the Church. Seems wrong to place conditions on previously married people, but we follow the Church’s teachings as they are what Jesus wants. I could not leave him because he had cancer as this seems wrong, and not something he chose. It is difficult to be Catholic, the narrow road goes to Heaven.
This is the sort of fictional fear-monger I g that drives people away from the Real Presence and the Church. There are many worse sins than what the author selected, and many of those listed are hardly a rejection of Jesus. The Eucharist I’d Bread for sinners, not a reward for the righteous. So stop thinking Jesus rejects you because you are not worthy. Come to the Eucharist and feel the compassion and companionship of God. 4:26

The secret is, when people feel accepted for who they are and loved they will deeply change their sinful behaviors. Of course, it will take time and patience. I worked with people for 50 years on these issues. But If people feel threatened with hell they don’t deeply change and permanently. This was the revolution of Jesus teaching and what set him apart from other religions. Unfortunately, many conservatives focus on fear of damnation and the nasty stuff, and it’s because they are fear-based. Their world is small. 50 years of perusal this first hand.
Keeping oneself in the state of grace is critical to our soul for every mortal sin we commit grants the Devil “legal claim” over our soul. Thus, if one were to die with unrepented unconfessed mortal sins, one will go to hell! Nothing on this earth is more important than our soul. As our Lord had said, “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?”. (Mark 8:36) Eternity is at stake, make no mistake! Sincerely repent of your sins and turn back to God now! Obey and follow the Good Shepherd our Savior Jesus Christ to eternal life. Time flies and this transitory world will be gone in a blink of an eye, to be made new for the reign of the Lord Jesus our King and his Kingdom will have no end!
I do not understand why this article is titled this way. It’s not just 12 mortal sins that must be confessed before receiving the Most Holy Eucharist, it is EVERY mortal sin on your soul that one remembers with a truly contrite heart that MUST be confessed. ANY mortal sin that is intentionally omitted by a penitent makes the confession invalid and stains the soul with yet ANOTHER mortal sin.
Oh Precious Jesus, I want to be washed in your Precious blood, make me whiter than white. I have sinned. One is just as bad as the other so it doesn’t matter which one, you already know anyway. I beg you for your Forgiveness and Mercy. I love you so much my Lord and Savior. Please Have Mercy on me….I pray in your Holy and Powerful Name Jesus…Amen…
If one is In Christ . . that is when one received The Eternal Forgiveness of God by believing and receiving Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior that is – by believing Christ’s finished work at the cross – well. . that is by believing we mean committing one’s life to Him in newness of life and no longer to the old sinfull life – one can take communion anytime to remember Him and Christ’s sacrifice at the cross.
I dont know who these people are but i do remember when I was young here in ireland ther were organisations called solidarities fr men and women, always separate, every year preachers would come and the fear of GOD, literally, would be put into the congregation, I remember the redemptorists fathers, were probably the most terrifying, the church in ireland is, rightly, much more reasonable and less dictatorial than before, I remember when all politicians feared a belt of the crazier, that is a rebuke from the bishop, but these blogs sound like they come from america and are more cultish than maga, I suspect they are done to undermine the Catholic church, for they are full of,misinformation and stupidities.. most of the rules of the church are set to form an habit of good living, none like attending AT mass, is absolute, but bearing witness by attending the holy sacrifice of the mass is recommended as frequently as possible, and as for a good confession, well who really knows, except it is cathartic, the church I grew up in in the fifties in ireland was a dark and horrible betrayal of the message of Christ, as I know it, Slavish following of any cult is only for the fools, and the dangeruous, WAKE UP . THINK FOR YOURSELVES, SUPPORT UKRAINE FREE AND AT PEACE BEIR BUA
Thanks a lot for sharing this important information. However, kindly please enlighten me further. Most of the times the priests come to our churches when there are about 5 to 10 minutes before the mass begins. This is due to shortage of priests. One priest is tasked to celebrate mass to over two churches. As such, very few christians go for confession. In this case, most of us just repent on our own and receive it without confessing our sins before the priest. In this case, are we worth receiving it?
St. Faustian, said, when she saw hell, those who suffer the most, are people who don’t pay fairly!! Do you tip as you should? Do you give a just amount to your church, or do you just put in a few dollars??? A just amount to the church is a matter to seek the lord on!! Everyone’s situation is different!! I used to put into the collection whatever I had spent taking my family out to dinner & including the tip amount!! Recently I heard of a priest who was not sleeping right, because his parishioners were not giveing a just amount at church& his mattress was very very very old!!! How do you think God felt about that????!!!!!! It was an average perish& 200 to maybe 400 for a new mattress was well within their means!! You never know how underpaying someone can affect lives!! Little children not eating because you underpayed their mom or dad, ect.ect ect.ect!! Again, this is a matter for you to take up with the lord!!!
Matt. 7:21* – It is not everyone who says to me, “Lord, Lord,” who will enter the kingdom of Heaven, but the person who does the will of my Father in heaven. Phil. 2: 12 – ….so work out your salvation in fear and trembling. We are saved not only by faith in Christ Jesus, but also by our efforts to do the will of the Father (i.e. Whoever holds to my commandments and keeps them is the one who loves me – John 14:21). The greatest commandment is love The
The World is made up of many religious choices, a lot of the religions don’t have confessions by priest or pastor, sometimes the priest or pastor committed bigger sins than the one confessing his or her sins! Tell me, who’s right and who’s wrong! I have had discussions with God daily about sin and Life, God tells me the reason Jesus died on the cross was for forgiveness, all a person has to do is heart fully say you are sorry to God and never do the same sin again and you are forgiven and you will be accepted into heaven when it is your time! I spend hours talking to God, actually, 8 long years while caring for my mother with Alzheimer’s, God let me know when she will leave this earth along with all of us! Forgiveness From God Is The Answer, Saying I Am Sorry, Please Forgive Me!
We only need to trust in Jesus, his divine mercy, especially at the hour of death. If it weren’t for Jesus, his mercy, none of us would ever get in heaven. Jesus told St Faustina, one of his favorite prayers is when people pray for the conversion of sinners, which I now pray every day, because I realize Jesus wants everyone to be saved and to come home, and I pray, the Lord will have mercy on us and the whole world.
When you accept Christ as your savior by acknowledging that he died for your sins according to the scriptures, was buried, and rose again according to the scriptures. Those priests are lying to you and they are unnecessary. There is ONE mediator between God and man; the man Jesus Christ (I Timothy 2:5)
God of Mercy and compassion Look with pity upon me My Family and the sins of the whole World. Thank You Father for shearing God’s message to the whole world, People Open your eyes, your ears, We are Seeing, 😢😮 😮😮😮😮😮😮Hearing God’s Messages, God’s time is Hes 🎉 Warnings🎉😂 Lets rurn Our lives around listen to the truth God is Seaking to Us now
I have concerns with sins 2 an 3 because it mentioned marriage and same sex, implying that cohabitation outside of marriage is a mortal sin and applies to those having same-sex relationships. Does this mean the church has approved same-sex marriage and will bless them so the sin of living together outside of marriage can be forgiven? But living together as same sex partners is in itself a sin, and as one priest said, the church cannot bless a sin, unless the church has already changed its teachings on marriage.
To be in a state of grace, see John 14: 23. If we commit any of these sins mentioned with full knowledge and consent then God no longer abides in us and we become spiritually dead. If we die in this state we condemn ourselves to Hell. We only have one life. Please,” repent and believe the Gospel.” Be reconciled to God,go to confession and get back into a state of grace. God bless. Vivo Christo Rey.
How did Teshuvah creep into the Catholic Church? Teshuvah is for those who don’t believe Christ is the final sacrifice for all sins, and the final temple (I will raise this Temple in 3 days). Makes sense if you wonder where the doctrines of diaspora Jews went when then were forced to accept Catholicism.
I have a feeling we Catholics do not abide by this rule. If we did, either we would be in the confessional every week, or the lines for communion would not be as long as they are now. Seriously! Anger alone would keep 99% of us from receiving Holy Communion every Mass. I find this very depressing. I’ve always looked at the Eucharist as a beautiful gift Jesus gives us so that He remains close to us. He, of all people, knows we are weak and sinful…..but He loves us anyway. We can never be perfect…..yet He wants to “remain with us”. Being in the state of grace is a goal…something to strive for. I doubt many truly get there.
Other sins: 1) Receiving holly communion without fully confessing all grave sins 2) Not being respectfull to relatives, spouse, employees or other 3) Missed mass due to work or worked during Sunday 4) Supporting abortion or voted for politicians that support abortion or abstained from advicing someone to abstain from aborting 5) Abusing your position to gain property or money of others 6) participated in acts of corruption in or outside government 7) Not sharing time, empathy, mercy, money, resources with others in need 7) Not forgiving others 8) violating Any of the 10 commendments, acts of mercy or commiting any of the capital sins or church commendments. 9) Not confessing absolutely all sins before reciving holly communion. 10) Commuting and confessing same sins. 11) Not confessing once a month. 12) Not praying everyday and praying Rosary and not reading and learning the Bible and not sharing with others our faith.
What does one do if there is no opportunity to make confession before receiving the sacraments. Also the Cathecisim of CC teaches that you can resolve to make confession at the earliest opportunity and receive Holy Communion. Is that right or is it a modification based on Vatican II. What are Holy Days are the same as Obligation days?
Then why did it take until 1215 for confession to a priest to become a sacrament for forgiveness? And that is the only way for forgiveness? it’s not right to add to salvation of something that wasn’t instituted in the beginning. I guess the original church fathers in Catholic view points didn’t know that confessing to a priest one on one was mandatory since they didn’t even start confessing to a priest until 900-1000 AD. Before that, the congregation would just talk about their sins and to pray for one another. This is a serious question, not trying to argue. But I’m saying pure facts with my statement. And if it was mandatory for forgiveness, why didn’t the ones that knew salvation better than anyone in todays world not mandate it as a sacrament?
Jesus told his disciples to continue remembering him by breaking bread at home in his name, presided over by the head of the family where they meet; this was the only ritual he left. It was the actualisation of the community of his followers who were equal members at the service of one another. He left no priestly class to administer sacraments. His attack on the temple and the cleansing of the temple show clearly the old system of relating to God by sacrifices had to go; God did not want sacrifices, but mercy, compassion, fidelity. Jesus left us no doctrines to believe, – salvation depends on having proper relationship and caring for the needy. From 613 laws the Jews had, Jesus made just one: Love God by loving the neighbour..(Lk 19: 1-10!; Mat 25:(31-46); Mat 22:34-40)
One does not receive Christ in the eucharist, we receive Him by faith. When Paul said “whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord” Paul was speaking of the actions of many of the individuals as they did not act “Christ like” as when it came to breaking bread they were getting drunk while some ate large meals in front of the poor who had nothing. The lacked a “Christ attitude”. No list is required as if one is with sin they should not break bread. How ever number 1 is ridiculous as neither Christ nor the apostles ever said mass.
Is the secret confession introduced in the Church subsequently, after apostles period? It have many advantages. But it is now a days misused by ‘priests’. In the Kerala state of India ( where a good number of RC in 3 rites) there are many incidents of priests sexually exploited women by blackmailing with the sexual sins heard in confessions( not only in RC but in the Orthodox churches also). Why can’t we shift to common absolution. Repentance is the important thing? Kindly give a theological and biblical explanation.
In the west, the state punishes a man for being married. Then, if he does get married, 80% of the time, the wife asks for a divorce. A man often loses half of his assets and then loses his family. Without being able to annul the marriage, what is a Catholic man to do? Is he to live like a monk for the rest of his life?
All sin is mortal, but if you are born again, your sins have already been forgiven by the blood of Jesus 2000 years ago. Your flesh still sins, but you’re sin free spiritually in God’s eyes. Communion is for remembrance of what He did for us. You do not confess your sins to a man. You have already been forgiven. We are saved by grace by faith in Him because we could not save ourselves. Read Ephesians 2:8-9.
I can’t imagine anyone is able to receive the Eucharist without confessing immediately beforehand as that list feels like something everyone does at least one of those weekly. I have not been to mass in a long time and it feels like even if I want to go again that I am unable due to committing one of the 12 before Sunday mass.
FACTS: Biblical Proof the seventh day (Saturday) IS the Sabbath Matt 27:62 The next day, the one after Preparation Day……(.Saturday) Mat 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, (Sunday) Mark 15:42 – It was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath). Mark 16:1-2 – When the Sabbath was over,(After sunset Saturday) Mark 16:9 When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week (Sunday) Luke 23:54 It was Preparation Day, (friday) and the Sabbath was about to begin Luke 23:56 Then they went home and prepared spices and perfumes. But they rested on the Sabbath in obedience to the commandment.( Just before sunset Friday) Luke 24:1 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, …. (Sunday) John 19:31 Now since it was preparation day (Friday), in order that the bodies might not remain on the cross on the sabbath, for the sabbath day of that week was a solemn one, John 19:42 because of the Jewish day of Preparation (Friday), since the tomb was close at hand, they laid Jesus there. 42 And so, because it was the day of preparation for the Jewish Passover John 20:1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, (Sunday)
What do you mean by “either opposite or same sex” for points 2 and 3 ? Any relation of same sex is an abomination for the Lord, and no “marriage” of that kind is permissible so no need to say that “either” condition there, it is implied as Mortal Sin if its same sex, adds more gravity to it if anything.
Very old. There would maybe be 1 in a hundred so called “Catholics” who should receive communion then!!. I wish I had all those under control, you must remember, we try to be as Christ, but we are just human and as such, fallible😅. If we could all be all of these things there would be no reason for confession or pergutory. God knows that we fail, after all, he created us, and still loves us. We have been given the way, but, as humans, it ain’t easy. God Bless!.
Jesus said, “Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven. Whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.” He didn’t say, “Make up more and more new sins.” The commandments already existed but the Catholic Church decided to create even more new ones. Our Lord worked to welcome all to come to Him, e.g. prostitutes, tax collectors, lepers, etc. The Church seems to create obstacles to Christ; seems to create more and more ways to reject people. They continually create these’ have to do’ exercises, then castigate those that don’t comply with threats of eternal damnation. Missing Mass on Sunday gets you the same sentence as murder. Jesus said, “Do this in memory of Me.” He said it with Divine Love and humility, creating a symbol for us to remember the ultimate sacrifice He would make for mankind. He didn’t say, “Do this in memory of Me, or else.”
ST. POPE JOHN PAUL II : “(No one, young people included, should be led to think that) it is possible all at once to live a 100 percent Christian life without doubts and sins. The Christian life is a continuing process of conversion, of stumbling, asking forgiveness and starting over. The process is a source of good for others as well because when someone experiences his own shortcomings and forgiveness of his faults, he finds it easier to accept the shortcomings of others and offer them pardon.”
Sooo…. YOU are saying that Apostles PETER and PAUL lied when they taught that Jesus’ death 2000 years ago paid for all of our sins and gave us sinful Believers NEVER ENDING, PERPETUAL forgiveness of all of our sins ?? SEE 1Peter 2:24, Hebrews 9:12,26,28, 2Corinth 5:21, Colossians 1:12-14,20-22, John 12:31-33, etc
NOTE ALL MORTAL SINS MUST BE CONFESSED BEFORE HOLY COMMUNIONI ALL TRUE CATHOLICS KNOW THIS, IF YOU DON;T KNOW SOMETHING IS A MORTAL SIN THEN YOU CANNOT COMMIT IT. LETS THANK GOD THEIR ARE THOSE WHO TRULY WANT TO GET BACK TO HOLY SACRIFICE OF THE MASS FOR LOVE OF GOD IN THE FIRST PLACE, LETS NOT TRY TO STIR UP TROUBIE FOR THOSE WHO ARE HUMBLE AND SINCERE AT CONFESSION. FOR THOSE WHO ARE, DON’T BE DISCOURAGED, GOD HAS FORGIVEN YOU, KEEP MOVING FORWARD, GOD KNOWS AND YOU KNOW THAT YOU ARE TRYING TO BE BETTER FOR LOVE OF HIM. TRY YOU BEST FOR THE SAKE OF THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS, HE NEVER EVER FORGETS IT FOR ALL ETERNITY!!! PS, PRAYING THE ROSARY WILL HELP YOU STAY ON TRACK GUARANTIEED!!!
TWELVE OR ONE MORTAL SIN, THEY MUST BE CONFESSED IF YOU KNOW YOU HAVE COMMITED THEM. TO BE A MORTAL SIN THIS MUST TAKE PLACE, A MORTAL SIN IS DEFINED AS A GRAVE MATTER THAT IS COMMITTED IN FULL KNOWLEDGE OF ITS GRAVITY AND WITH THE “FULL CONSENT OF THE SINNERS WILL”. IF ANY OF THESE 3 ARE MISSING YOU HAVE NOT CMMITTED A MORTAL SIN. DON’T FORGET “FULL CONSENT OF THE WILL ALSO WHEN YOU GO TO CONFESSION TRULY SEEKING GOD’S MERCY FOR ALL YOUR SINS, THEY ALL WILL BE FORGIVEN EVEN THE ONE’S YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN ABOUT. IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN TO CONFESSION IN YEARS, AND WANT TO HAVE YOUR SOUL CLEAN BACK TO AS WHEN YOU WERE AS A CHILD, THEN YOU SIMPLY SEEK A PRIEST AND TELL HIM YOU WANT TO HAVE A “GENERAL CONFESSION” IN THE RECTORY!!! A TRUE PRIEST WILL TAKE YOU ASAP! FOR IF HE DID NOT, IT WOULD BE A GRAVE MATTER BETWEEN HIM AND GOD AND GOD WOULD SURELY HOLD HIM RESPONSIBLE FOR NOT HEARNG YOU!!!
Not good enough to confess to a priest. Go back and confess to those u have wounded. Too many cathilics confessing on the quiet. Jesus said to confess to one another. I fully expect the priest to thetefore confess his sin to me in return. Confess to one another is very important because it repairs relationships which God wants. No good confessing in secret to a priest and not the folks u hurt.
How is it possible to confess NOT BEING in front of Priest?? Behind Priest, hides the Lord of Heavens! Right; The example in Paradise shows that God wants the believer to face his sins in front of Him!! Look Him in the eyes!!!Right; Conclusion: You Catholics, have changed Christianity in deep degree!! Of course, either Catholic or Orthodox or any other Religion will be judged by believer’s actions to others!!! But beyond that.. we’ve to know what is right and what not.. Thanks,
In the Lord’s prayer Jesus taught us that we can and should pray directly to God the Father daily and ask him to forgive our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. He did not mention a priest in this process. In Luke 18 Jesus told of a tax collector who prayed directly to God and said, Lord have mercy on me, a sinner. That man went home justified before God. Again, no priest was involved. In Acts 8 Simon the Sorcerer sinned grievously and what did Peter tell him? Did Peter forgive him or retain his sin? No, Peter told Simon to repent and pray to God to seek forgiveness. Sadly, there are churches that ignore these clear teachings of Jesus and scripture that you can repent and reach out to your Father in heaven for forgiveness with no priest involved. There are no reasonable grounds to dispute or contradict this truth from God’s word.
Who decides this?? Anyone who believes that Jesus died for their sins, realises this and repents. When we do this the cleanup process in our lives takes time but God helps in this. God is the saving grace for us, not our supposed good deeds or the “teachings of the Church” Religion will kill your soul, Jesus has and will save it if you ask!¡
12? ALL mortal sins need to be Confessed (Jn 20: 23) before Communion Pornography always mortal sin; masturbation often venial sin if need to release distracting stress Get married after 6-12 months healthy monogamous relationship Read a chapter of Gospels daily. Pray one daily rosary Stay away from Satan’s divine mercy devotion (Mt 6: 7; 24: 24)
Open your eyes heart and mind to TRUTH. We only confess our sins to God our father in heaven. Not to a man who claims Tobe a god, this is blasphemy. The only way to heaven is through Jesus Christ. Jesus kept his Holy Saturday Sabbath even when he slept in the grave. No man has the right time change God’s Sabbath day. Revelation Those that are saved r those that keep all of God’s 10 commandments including the Saturday Sabbath one. Plus those that have the faith of Jesus. I was a Catholic for 30 years then I found out that I have been lied to. God said do not worship idols, statues. Why did the Vatican take the idol commandment out? Because God only wants us to worship him. Not statues,.
The true meaning of Christianity returns, not JC personally. It starts with- The proper understanding that biblical creation is of spiritual nature, not material nature has been discovered. Biblical creation is metaphors for psychological factors not material and is the creation of Adam. THE SECOND COMING OF CHRISTIANITY. (Basics) (sequence) I will send you Elijah before the great day of the lord.(the nut ball has arrived) 1 The entrance of Elijah the messenger. Embodied in the knowledge of the Old Seers. (The book of Rev. begins) 2 Christianity as present in the world is proven false. 3 The world falls into disbelief. 4 The world mostly takes on the new knowledge. 5 Governments are removed or become inert. 2 camps are created one good-the greater number falls away. 6 The good leave the cities, go into hiding for safety.3 7 End time arrives. The evil with no governance destroy their own kind. (by the hand of man will man’s blood be shed)(the great day of the lord). 8 Proper Christianity remains. (natural man) 64
Apostle PETER taught that God forgives all of our sins when we BELIEVE/faith in Savior Jesus — SEE Acts 10:38-43 — because Jesus’ blood on the altar in Heaven has given Believers NEVER ENDING, PERPETUAL forgiveness for all of our sins — SEE Hebrews 9:12,26,28, Colossians 1:12-14, etc YOU are DENYING the complete work of Redemption (forgiveness of sins) BOUGHT/paid for by Jesus’ body/blood — just like PETER WARNED in 2Peter 2:1-3
God is the only one who can forgive sins ! A sinner cannot forgive the sins of the other Sinner. in( Romans 3:23) “All are sinners, and come short of glory of God” Again in Romans 3:10 “There is no one who is righteous” So if any person or anybody claiming to forgive sins of others is Blasphemy!!! Read. Mark 2:7 “How does he dare to talk like this? This is Blasphemy! God is the only one who can forgive sins !” Also from the holy scripture, (Hebrew 9:22) Without blood shed, there is no forgiveness of sins!!! So repent, believe Lord Jesus Christ, his finished work on the cross, for your sins by Faith, you WILL SAVED.(Acts 16:31) So it is by God’s grace we have saved through faith, not by our works or our efforts, but God’s gift, so that no one can BOAST about it.(Ephesians 2:8-9) Since our own works or our self righteousness, is nothing but FILTHY Rags!!! (Isaiah 64:6)
