  • The best way to de-google ur phone is to install a custom rom without gapps and use alternative apps for those google apps. It’s a hectic process but very much doable. U lose some conveniences too. And I’m sure there r ways they can track/watch u via custom roms too since the core os is android. I’m not an expert though, correct me if I’m wrong.

  • Last week I did factory data reset then i stoped every thing related to google completely..sadly my phone became crazy..the mobile data and bluetooth tethering and nearby share didn’t work but the performance became much much better and every thing was smoother and the internet speed bacame fast and stable also the battery life became very good i don’t know what google do with my phone.this article came at the perfect time thanks..sorry about my weak English

  • Thanks for your article! My two cents: Better alternative for Google Maps: Organic Maps. If you still have a Google Pixel phone or you are ready to purchase one, then the best OS alternative is GrapheneOS. For much security-minded people GrapheneOS is a good reason to purchase a Pixel phone. 😉 Great Music player: Metro.

  • Keep in mind that tutanota email can expire under certain circumstances. I forgot what exactly the term is, and i really liked using tutanota until mine expired and I had to pay to continue using it. I was kind of mad, but thankfully the address was only used for scrolling twitter so I didn’t lose anything important.

  • I love your articles but this is simply amazing. A question. Can we replace the system apps with the other you suggested to us and totally remove the standard app using “universal-android-debloater”. For example, can we remove Chrome definitely and use Firefox? And… there is an app that can replace the Phone app able to record the calls? Thanks

  • “it’s impossible to go completely Google-less unless switching to an iPhone” That’s not true. You even mention running custom OSes at the end. Speaking of which, LineageOS is not the best option for privacy. In fact out of the major alternative Android OSes it’s probably the worst for privacy. The best would be GrapheneOS. Second would be DivestOS, third would be CalyxOS, fourth and fifth would be the obscure IodéOS and /e/ (and potentially any other rather unknown/obscure OSes), and near the bottom of the pack would be LineageOS, with only like Paranoid Android below it. Not to say that LineageOS isn’t private nor a good option, just that it’s definitely far from the most private.

  • Excellent info but, this is not degoogle, you just removed the consent to some option. In some cases they do not change the monitoring that google has on you, such as maps for example, even without using it and even without active PGS they know your constant approximate position, in other ways, such as networks between devices, which even if disabled work the same. You should completely remove google to be sure… at least from that point of view because then… uff

  • I get that some people might totally freak out with all the privacy issues. but not only these are hectic and will take hours to set up, they’re no where near what Google’s offering I don’t see a scenario where someone will go so far so as to Disable or remove Google Play Store. Although that does buy you the most expensive thing in today’s time, privacy. On the other side, I once saw a guy requesting to remove the microphone from his phone cause he believed they’re listening to all his conversation

  • I de-samsunged my S22 Ultra . I have an as close to stock Android you can probably get on this phone. I turned off alot of Google crap too . I got rid of alot of ads stuff. I inse Samsung’s browser which will let me you really get rid of ads. Unlike chrome, no matter what you do you can’t get rid of ads .

  • /e/OS also has more than 200 supported devices for anyone who wants to check it out. It comes without google services and no google apps, but you are still able to install any google app like maps, youtube etc if you want. Your privacy will still continue due to tracker blocking, fake location, fake IP address etc. All trackers are blocked and your data will not be shared so openly. The OS makes sure to leak data if necessary for functions or apps to still work. The OS still has flaws etc, but now the first stable version that is still more of a beta version has been released. Flashing is very easy and detailed instructions are provided. The app lounge, their custom play store, does not require an account and has imported all the apps you could find in the play store. I haven’t yet found an app that I am unable to install. There are sometimes issues with google-login options for different apps and some apps require you to download the app from the play store (only one I found in my daily usage was the mcdonalds app). You are not per default able to install the google play store (but you don’t have many reasons to do. With the fake locations there is no way to use google maps or other GPS dependent navigation apps, but you can swipe left on your home screen and disable the blocker within 1 second. Very nice UI and very much customization possible.

  • Hey when someone from Google reads this…..You guys are really throwing your apps down the drain. I got YouTube, the pause button, play and fast forward won’t go away. I got it to go away for the regular YouTube but shorts is worthless. Then your Phone app? It’s worthess. Everytime I get a call I can’t answer because it’s so incredibly hard to answer. The swipe never works. Then when you wanna hang up, you have to hit button after button to do so.

  • Dude, you have no idea about tech. You said the iPhone is degoogled, but that’s not true. iPhones are actually tracked more than Androids, even when they’re turned off. You’re kidding yourself if you think iPhones are private. The only way to be truly private is to use a custom ROM based on AOSP, but then you can’t use apps like Uber or Lyft that need location access and a Google account. So, unless you’re willing to go back to a Nokia phone with a keypad and no touchscreen, you’re not really private. You’re being tracked and sold every minute.

  • Why would anyone not allowed to use the phone bought with their money unless they signed into Google account? It’s has happened to me and I’m very angry with that. Any deals between goggle and others phone manufacturer companies that are dictating / forcefully or compelling it’s users against their wishes need to be taken up and look into. It’s nothing but authoritarianism!!! Is it a must to have a goggle account?

  • software is programable isnt it,dont you think that backdoors put in by the developers wasnt designed to do just that….as long as there is internet access they can move in and out without you knowing, the option to turn something off is just to give you a feeling that you are in control….its not really off,you just think it is
