Kundalini awakening is a spiritual process that transforms consciousness and the psyche by activating energy through the chakras. The process involves cleansing the Nadis through Pranayama breathwork, which is the first step in awakening the Kundalini. This energy travels upward through the Sushumna, the central nadi or energy channel in the body, piercing the three granthis or energetic knots or blockages. The Kundalini awakening process has been classified into three stages: Arambha (Beginning), Ghata (Cleansing), and Bodhi (Awakening).
Intuitionally, the instantaneous awakening of the Kundalini occurs through a shakti-pat guru to disciple ritual. However, there are other methods to cultivate this dormant energy, such as yoga, mantras, asanas, and meditation. Some common methods for awakening the Kundalini energy include practicing love, serving others, maintaining a positive attitude, living in the consciousness of Light, meditation, gentle breathing exercises, visualizations, yoga postures, Energization Exercises, and chanting.
Kundalini yoga uses a series of pranayama, meditation, asanas, and mantras to effectively awaken and unblock each of the 7 Chakras within the body. Every aspect of yoga activates Kundalini, and every activity, whether it’s jumping for 10 minutes or playing football, will activate it. Yogic systems stress the importance of stabilizing the third eye chakra, which is often described as the subtle red Bindu or drop.
To begin the Kundalini awakening, one should learn breath control, set a digital watch for one minute, breathe deeply until it aches, then blow out slowly. Unsupervised practice of yoga may increase the risk of psychosis, so it’s important to dress for comfort and focus on the third eye chakra.

How do I unlock my 7 chakras?
In order to unlock a chakra, it is first necessary to be aware of its location. Daily meditation is then recommended in order to achieve a state of equilibrium between the various energies. Chanting mantras is another effective method of awakening dormant chakras. Alternatively, one may choose to attend guided meditation classes or chakra healing sessions, where expert advice can be sought. Finally, the use of specific crystals is advised for the purpose of channeling energy to each chakra. This will assist in the harnessing of the power of each chakra and the balancing of one’s energies.
How to awaken Kundalini quickly?
The Kundalini practice focuses on a person’s consciousness, which is primarily determined by the direction of their energy flow in the spine. According to yoga science, cosmic energy enters the body at the base of the brain and descends through the spine and chakras to fulfill physical needs. However, this outward flowing energy can also draw the mind outward, causing the contemplative mind to return to the senses.
To awaken Kundalini, one can reverse this flow by focusing on the positive magnet at the top of the head, which pulls consciousness upward towards innate oneness with God, and the negative magnet at the base of the spine, which pulls us towards negativity, selfishness, and unawareness.

What stimulates kundalini?
Kundalini yoga, influenced by Shaktism and Tantra schools of Hinduism, focuses on the awakening of kundalini energy through regular practice of mantra, Tantra, yantra, asanas, or meditation. The concept of kuṇḍalinī is mentioned in the Upanishads (9th – 7th centuries BCE) and is derived from the Sanskrit adjective kuṇḍalin, meaning “circular, annular”. The term is also used as a noun for “snake” in the 12th-century Rajatarangini chronicle (I.). The term kuṇḍalī is also used as a name for Goddess Durga (a form of Shakti) in Tantrism and Shaktism from the 11th century in the Śaradatilaka.
It was adopted as a technical term in Hatha yoga during the 15th century and became widely used in the Yoga Upanishads by the 16th century. Eknath Easwaran has paraphrased the term as “the coiled power”, a force that usually rests at the base of the spine, described as being “coiled there like a serpent”.

The primary purpose of Kundalini Yoga is to enhance an individual’s awareness and move past the ego.
How does kundalini awakening feel like?
A kundalini awakening is a significant shift in one’s life, characterized by increased pranic energy, powerful emotions and thoughts, and changes in behaviors, relationships, and perceptions. This awakening can manifest in various ways, such as increased energy in the body, physical sensations like tingling, shaking, heat, and changes in perceptions. Teachers and students can observe these signs, such as increased energy, goosebumps, powerful emotions and thoughts, and a greater sense of spiritual awareness.
Intuition can also increase, and vivid dreams or lucid dreaming can occur. Out-of-body experiences can occur, and psychic abilities can be enhanced. The initiative to practice non-violence can also be initiated. A deep sense of interconnectedness with all things can be experienced, and a sudden urge for change can occur. Acceptance of reality and the desire to serve others altruistically can also occur.
Deep compassion for all life is also evident, as is the ability to communicate freely and honestly. A sense of deep connection to nature, divinity, or a higher universal power can also be experienced. A deep sense of peace and calm can be experienced, and tears of indescribable joy, awe, and devotion can be experienced.

A Kundalini awakening is a transformational moment in yoga tradition where a person experiences a sense of connection or “oneness” with all beings in the known and unknown universe. It is often described as a rapturous euphoria to irrepressible and erratic movement, similar to demonic possession. The signs of a Kundalini awakening include heightened awareness of intuition, a deep sense of purpose and destiny, the urge to make life changes, and physical and emotional changes such as sleep disturbances, anxiety, surges of energy, and shaking. What triggers kundalini awakening?
Kundalini awakening is a psychophysical episode triggered by prolonged engagement with religious or spiritual practices like meditation, yoga, tantric sex, pranayama, and connected breathwork. Entheogenic drugs, particularly LSD, can also trigger it. Experts like Emily Nagoski and Tammy Nelson offer interventions to help clients overcome sex and relationship problems. However, spiritual practices are often viewed as psychological symptoms, leading to a view of kundalini awakening as a psychotic episode.
📹 Kundalini Yoga: Awakening the Shakti Within
Sadhguru sheds light on the mystical Kundalini energy, which lies dormant in every human being. He looks at the ways in which …
Yesterday while I was doing my makeup the random thought of kundalini spirit popped in my head and I kept repeating it to myself. Then I stopped and was like WHAT what am I saying? Why am I thinking this? I never knew what kundalini was and looked it up to see if it was an actual thing and it was. I am shook. I didn’t quite understand the articles I read about it and now sadhguru made a article explaining it. This is not a coincidence. I am in utter shock!!!
I had an experience one early morning years ago – just before waking I saw everything so clearly. I knew how the universe worked, but it was like I knew it already before. I understood everything and I saw that everything that happens is happening all at once. It’s like something opened up in me & I wondered why I never remembered all this before. As I became more awake I thought to myself ‘I’ll remember this, as it’s so clear to me now, there’s no way I will forget. I even said out loud softly to myself while not quite fully awake: “Now I understand… there is no past, present or future. Everything is now”. I remember that word for word & it was more than 40 years ago. But as I became more awake I actually saw & felt it moving away from me, like I was moving backward in a tunnel or void. It just kept moving away from me & I desperately tried to hang onto it. But the more awake I became it faded out until I wondered what it meant & angry that I couldn’t remember in detail, when I had felt I’d never forget. I wonder if that was a kundalini experience. I don’t care anymore that I’ve forgotten because that was my proof, if only for a moment, that there’s so much awaits us after this. I was 100% positive about it, no doubt, so I’m content with that. I was given a gift, I feel, of having a glimpse into something special to give me faith. Over the 67 years in this life I’ve had many other small things happen to me, but this has stayed with me always.
Once when I was meditating much more I learned some kundalini exercises. I used them in meditation. It was like something overloaded and blew out my internal “light” like a lightbulb with too much power flowing through it. I learned some respect and patience. I have seen many things that just opened in my life that I was not ready to own or did not trust myself to hold and live with. I pray that I may soon be ready or trust more.
When I passed through this experience I was reflecting soo deeply that I just couldn’t stop myself from thinking and questioning everything. My mind was going crazy with thoughts as though all the information that ever existed hit me all at once. It was an overload for my brain to handle, and took me about 3 days to finally relax and now I feel peace and unconditional love for all. I came to the realization that we are all here to make this world a better place for all to live in peace and harmony. I am not better than the rest, as my ego would make me feel. We are all one big family and we don’t even realize it.
Reading all the comments I think I had a spontaneous kundalini awakening and only by guidance from source I discovered articles on the subject and looking back on the past 6 months I feel with high level of certainty that’s what’s been happening. I did daily yoga practice to regulate anxiety following a traumatic relationship situation. I lost everyone and I was powerless to do anything to stop it. Drifted from place to place. Had serious psychic attacks. Strange audiovisual experiences. Darkness was after me. Only doing daily cold water dips saved me and through it I became very connected to source. I can’t engage in ‘normal’ things. Just can’t. I’m driven to go to the mountains now. Like source is giving me no other option. I also get messages as to what my mission is what I have to do for the collective. I’m having more clarity now and going with the flow. Source is holding my hand and I’m his faithful child. He is my Heavenly Father 🙏🏻👁️
Jiya Sadhguru, thank you for your teachings! This is the reason you hear about people running away from meditation retreats(!) A tiny glimpse at even a touch of enlightenment glowing out from behind a mountain — this is the ‘light of God’ they talk about in the bible that kills you instantly. For those interested in information on what is sometimes called ‘meditator’s disease’ in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, look up writings about ‘lung’ by Ven. Paula Chichester.
Thank you so much Sadhu guru! 🙏 I have been listening to you for quite some time. I came across kundalini yoga the same time I found you and so many other amazing teachers! Thank you for the ways you have helped me grow and understand that even though I went through resistance for some tome in this physical life time, I have been true to myself more then not. I am awakening things in myself I never knew but am so happy to be reconnected with! It’s my time with source and my mind and wisdom have grown so much from the awakening of your message and that of kundalini! The universe has listened to all of my desires and I am humbly and truly grateful!! 🙏 Sat Nam! 🙏
