Magic mushroom tinctures are a simple and effective way to extract beneficial compounds from mushrooms for health purposes. To make a tincture, you need dried and powdered magic mushrooms, high-proof alcohol, and equipment like glass jars and strainers. The process involves a double-extraction process that captures both active compounds.
To make magic mushroom gummies, you need ingredients like magic mushrooms, gelatin, and sweeteners. The process involves preparing a mushroom-infused mixture and mixing it with gelatin. Tinctures are concentrated liquid extracts, and the process of “double extraction” or “dual extraction” is commonly used for immune-modulating herbs.
Mushroom oil requires fresh mushrooms, oil, and basic kitchen tools. There are several methods for making mushroom oil, but most involve infusing oil with mushrooms to create a concentrated liquid. Microdosing involves consuming small, non-perceptual amounts of psilocybin-containing mushrooms, which can affect the mind.
Psilocybin, a psychedelic compound found in magic mushrooms, can help open up depressed people’s brains. Psilocybin mushrooms, also known as magic mushrooms, shrooms, or liberty caps, are a wild variety of mushrooms that have a psilocybin extract. Another extraction method is the “ethyl alcohol extraction”, which involves evaporating the solvent and leaving behind a pure psilocybin extract.
In summary, making magic mushroom tinctures is a straightforward and effective way to extract beneficial compounds from mushrooms for health purposes.

I have a question that was not covered: If the goal is to have a somewhat standardized dosage of your gourmet/medicinal mushroom of choice, what is the ideal ratio of powderized mushroom to alcohol and subsequent powderized mushroom to water? For example, say you have 100g dried mushroom powder, should you add 200g alcohol for the first step, and, say, 400g water for the 2nd step, aiming for half of that water to boil off for a final weight of 200g water? I realize this is more technical but with so much wiggle room you could easily end up with 12 tincture bottles versus 50 or more. Also, do you have a link to the sonic machine?
An easy way to fill is a small vynal line and siphon. I set the bottles in a plastic tray and hold the bottle low until almost full then raise it up when full, remove hose and switch bottles. Just set the jar of medicine up a little higher than your tray. I do know you guys use that confection funnel thingy but I don’t have one of those yet.
Psilo question but how much mushroom matter would you recommend to double extract. After perusal your articles I went and got the gear, that was the easy part… been trying article after article and keeping hitting dead ends if you could share a little info I would be ever grateful 🙂 keep being weird.
This article was very well done and very thorough compared to other articles I’ve seen going over extractions and tinctures. Question: Instead of using something like Vodka or Everclear to extract the fat soluble compounds could I use an oil (for ex: Blackseed oil)? I know this would be considered an oil infusion and not a tincture at this point but wondering whats more effective for extracting the fat soluble compounds in mushrooms, alcohol or oil?
I really enjoyed your article. I have some fresh lions mane, do I absolutely need to dry it before tincturing it? I made a batch about a year ago with fresh lions mane that I put through a food processor. My end product has a thick layer of what I would call goo but it more likely fats/proteins/polysaccharides but I am beginning to worry that using the fresh mushroom has compromised the shelf life. Any thoughts?
Could someone take the result of the combined alcohol and water extract jars and boil them down until it’s a fine paste and then mix it in a tea? I’m looking for a method to consume one dried pound of cubes because the last time I tried, I just did a water extract and added tea and sweetener and it was the worst thing I’ve ever tasted, not to mention just how much liquid of the horrible taste there was to consume.
Instead of commenting about water simmering/boiling below its boiling point. I’ll just mention a Soxhlet extractor. With one extraction is repeated over and over creating a concentrate and its easy to tell when its done. Since the solvent will be clear once the thimble is full and the syphon tube is filled and creates a vacuum to drain the chamber. Then simply swap out the round bottom flask from one filled halfway with alcohol to one filled halfway with water. No messy filtering needed. Also if one is used and no filter thimble will be used just use cotton balls to make sure no particles make it into the syphon tube and clog it. Also blender to turn the product into a fine powder?
microbial Chitinase found in more than 70% of human gut samples… looks like healthy humans may able to extract some compounds by breaking down fungal cell walls after all (or at least our microbiome breaking them down)… maybe not as efficiently as performing extraction first, but equally, the beneficial compounds may not all be passing straight through us. Fungal cell walls are key nutritional substrate for several ubiquitous gut bacteria that may do the job.
My tip: instead of buying an expensive press. Buy a polyester filterbag. (for example from the magical butter machine). I have a 190 (that’s a size) polyester filter bag. You can really get a lot of extra from it. I think you can even more than double it. And polyester doesn’t get as dirty as cheese cloth.
Hi! Awesome article!! Congrats!! Im trying to do some extractions and I could see in your article that an ultrasonic cleaner can be used to speed up the process…I would like to know where I can find more information about its use in the double extraction process…thank you very much for share such valuable information!!!
Thanks. Why are there “opinions” on the output of a standardized process? It would seem that some pretty simple, yet controlled testing runs would give us usable guidelines (and expectations) on the impact of various techniques. While the specific results would contain some variation, the trends (if there were any) should surface clearly.
Chitin is something I just learned about maybe a 2 years ago with the push for people to eat bugs….. Never knew it was in shrooms too, also amazed how much I’ve been told chitin and fras are fake and a conspiracy theory when here it is coming up again when I’m trying to learn about tintures. :/ Much love to all and be safe.
