  • There’s a homeless man that lives in my town who will actually tell you he’s “alright today” if he has enough dollars for food. I ran into him at a gas station and he asked me to buy him a Diet Pepsi. I offered to give him money for it but he wanted me to get it so that I know it’s just for a Diet Pepsi. He will take a dollar if he needs it but won’t if he doesn’t.

  • I never give “homeless people” money. Instead I will offer to buy or give them food. Usually if they say yes than they really are homeless and hungry. If they say “NO I’d rather have the money” than I say sorry and leave them there. I believe no one should go hungry. Even me struggling with a broken spine and not much money. I do what I can to help out 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻

  • When I was in college I was poor. I worked two jobs but was paying cash for college so there wasn’t much money left after rent, tuition and books. I ate a lot of beans and potatoes. The thing that floored me was you couldn’t take a single step off campus without getting hit up by beggars. Either they congregated on the sidewalks just on the edge of campus or they patrolled the surrounding neighborhoods with stories about how they were from out of town and ran out of gas with their kids in the car. One day a beggar got upset when I ignored him and started following me down the sidewalk. I turned to him and pointed out that he was wearing a Starter jacket, Starter hat, Air Jordans and had a walk man. I told him I couldn’t afford those things, so maybe He should give ME some change!” He shut up real quick. When I see someone begging on a street corner, I assume they are scammers. Most people who really need the help have full time jobs and don’t have time to beg.

  • I worked at Little Caesars late last year and this lady was 10 cents short and my manager would not help her. The lady was homeless. Asked me for 10 cents and when she saw my hat she looked like she was worried I would deny her the money. Instead I went inside and bought her a pizza. Let her keep what little money she had while still getting a decent meal.

  • When I was a kid I went and worked with my step dad doing landscaping. At the time I was pissed because it was the weekend and I’d rather play with kids. Glad he didn’t just use me to gain sympathy from strangers while I just sit there. Thank you for being a father. Men have to teach their sons the value of work/ hard work. Stay blessed 🙏

  • I was at a Fry’s grocery parking lot and a lady comes up to my window that was down about 4 inches and asks me for money. I was in the middle of telling her that I didn’t have any bills…she interrupts and puts her out, as in talk to the hand, and says “I don’t want to hear it” and walks away talking crap. I was stunned. All I could do was laugh. I then yelled over to her and said you didn’t let me finish…I was going to say I don’t have any bills all I have is change…will you take that? She said YES!!! As she started walking towards me I said “I don’t want to hear it!!!” with my hand up and drove off. I heard about five f-bombs driving away.

  • I’m a college student who works at Walmart neighborhood market. I was called up to help the cashier’s. I get on the cash register and check a few people out. A lady comes to my line and is unable to pay for most of her items. She pays for like three or so things and leaves the cart there and tells me some of them she just can’t afford. so I have a full cart and a few other items (lotion and such). she goes back to shopping.. a lady comes through my line and asks if the cart of things belongs to the woman before her. I said yes (keep in mind the lady who left the cart is in a get around cart). she pays for her own things and ends up paying for the whole cart that the previous lady left. before she walks off I ask her if she knows that lady and she says “no, I just want to help out”. that woman in the get around scooter comes back up with more stuff and buys it and I tell her that someone paid for her other things and she says “oh I know…I know her ..she’s my sister) I thought to myself…that’s odd she said she didn’t know you. well the man behind her buys the other few items (lotion she left) for her. he was an active military soldier. She leaves in a really nice new car (I’m not a car person and it was dark) they pull up to the door and she got up and got in the nice new car. My fellow associate walks over and tells me that the lady does that almost every day. These people are everywhere.

  • When I was about seven, my parents took me to Wal-Mart to buy me a bike for my birthday, before my dad could even get out of our truck a girl comes by AND PHYSICALLY OPENS OUR DOOR. Then proceeds to say she needs money for gas, and blah blah blah. My dad said “I have a gas can in the back, I can go buy you some gas and bring it back. ” she refused and said she just needed 5 bucks, dad again, offered to buy her a few gallons and give it to her. She then raised her voice ” I told you I just need the cash!” My dad told her that he didn’t know who she was or her intentions with the money, but it sure wasn’t getting used for gas. She walks off and gets with (I’m assuming her boyfriend or so) in a brand new, polished sports car. Then they drive off. This is why I’m leery of giving ppl money. However I have given a total of forty dollars and food to the guy that sleeps in his truck in the ingles parking lot. He never asks for it though.

  • I live in a neighborhood with almost no homeless people at all, so when I saw a man holding a sign saying he was “very hungry and diabetic” i had to go up and ask him if he wanted me to buy him some food, but he said no thank you I’m actually full i just ate, and i was wondering why he would hold that sign saying that if he isn’t even hungry, he probably just wanted to get money from people. That’s why I ask if they want food bc some of them do it as a job or for drugs. It’s sad that people are too lazy to find a job, and that they would rather just stand outside begging for money instead of trying to better themselves, we should help them find jobs instead of only food and money, so they can help support themselves.

  • Had a guy in Houston panhandling didn’t have money on me so I offered him my lunch I hadn’t eaten yet. He was appreciative of it and was honest with me saying he didn’t really need the food he was out there because it was an easy way to get money. While I don’t condone this behavior I did respect his honesty at the least.

  • Here my thing… I’m a child of God.. And If I’m in a fortunate position to be able to reach out and help someone, I will do it… If that person turns out to be scam or use the money for illicit reasonings, that’s on THEM, NOT me… So don’t change who you are… just trust and believe in a superior being and his guidance…

  • Back in my days of using, I found myself talking to some old guy at the bus hub. Looked as homeless as I was. I sat and talked to the old guy for a good hour while he collected change. I had no intentions of asking for anything, I was just bored and high. Well, old dude must have just been fond of my conversation because he invited me back to his house to feed me, and send me on my way basically. He had a very nice loft, a nice car, pretty wife, nice stuff; if you want to help homeless people go to a homeless shelter. Pan handlers do well enough without you.

  • I’ve been asked for “help” by people who claim to be “hungry” and “haven’t eaten anything in 3 days”. I offered to walk with them to a sandwich shop nearby so that I could buy them a lunch of their choice. Then, the attitude changes from “woe is me, have pity” to “WTF?” Then I get yelled at with: “Damn, you MF, I want some MONEY!” Hungry? No. Need a fix but don’t want to work? Yes.

  • Two years ago while I was walking around Manhattan I seen this homeless older lady and it was in the middle of winter and she was sitting on the ground crying and praying saying “god please help me” and she only had one sweater and one sock on and had a blanket struggling to keep warm. It broke my heart seeing everyone walking right past her and ignoring her but I couldn’t do that. So I went up to her and gave her $20 and said “god bless you, I hope that things get better for you soon” and she started crying even more saying “thank you” repeatedly. I still think about her all the time, I hope she’s okay now 🙁

  • to the people xommenting that its an old mercedes. its still a car. that can take you from point a to b i.e home to work so she can get a job but theyre just lazy. what we do in my community is give money to charities and they organize food and jobs and shelter to homless people. NEVER try to do individual charity unless you know that person well.

  • My brother who lives in Dallas taught me about this trick. I started to give $5 to a mother with 2 children who claimed they were running from abuse and dumped on the street. He said wait. We sat about 20 min off in the parking lot and sure enough she walked over to a brand new minivan and drove off. They make enough money doing this they have to report it as income. It’s swindling – all panhandling, which cannot be regulated, should be prohibited and prosecuted.

  • As someone who was couch hopping practically living on the streets my whole pregnancy, no car just working my ass off. This has me heated. Smh. And the fact that shes using her “son” and the baby inside of her. She doesn’t deserve to be a mother. She doesnt know what it was really like to be struggling her whole pregnancy.

  • This same thing happened in San Antonio. Men and women, were showing up pan handling in the medical center. I always gave them spare change and cash. Then one night on the local news, they showed several of them getting into Escalade and driving to a local motel. They showed them, entering a hotel room and when they came out, dressed in expensive clothes. A few days later, they returned, but the cars driving by recognized them from tv. They were arrested, after the interview it was found out, on average, they were making 3 to 4 hundred each per day at 3 locations. After that, the cops were always patrolling those areas. They are scum!

  • This bullcrap needs to STOP and be made illegal. I see people all the time panhandling along I-40 around Knoxville. I never have given anyone any money because I can’t tell the crooks from the legit people. If they are truly needy, then there are other avenues besides panhandling on the street; this should not be allowed for anyone.

  • If I got a $1 I’ll give I saw a man outside a liquor store ask for $2. I know he went in there and bought some Jack. He followed me in the grocery store and asked for a coke. I got him that too. But that didn’t annoy me. A different homeless guy asked me for change and I gave him like $2 and said “yeah you got anymore?” A woman flagged my car down gave me some bullshit story about how she ain’t ate in 3 days and I gave her my doggybag from the restaurant I just left and she didn’t take it. She left it on the stoop. Junkies like them piss me off. People like this couple dragging their child out there and cursing and threatening people are disgusting!

  • I once pulled over for a lady in dead of winter who look cold and said she just needed to get to a gas station. Drove her there but she refused to get out of my car asking for money. At the time I had no cash and hardly enough money to pay my bills. Lady had the audacity to ask me to pull cash from the atm since she saw some of my slips in my car. Luckily there was a police car at that gas station and the lady saw me looking at the police car and got out of my car. I was 19 or 20 years old at the time and I was taught kindness and to help those that are struggling or less fortunate but since that encountered I don’t trust these people anymore. When I see them on the streets and they’re young, capable of working, seeking government assistance, pregnant, in a wheelchair, with kids or whatever 9 out of 10 times i look the other way. I still give a few dollars here and there or buy someone a drink regardless if its a beer or Gatorade when they ask. At least they’re being honest in what they want and again its that kindness. I hate that the encountered shape me into not trusting to give enough anymore but we live and we learn. Be careful out tjere folks

  • My dad knew a panhandler who was an alcoholic, he told him he made about 150 daily panhandling, but he only “worked” a couple of days out of the week, spend the rest of the week drinking liquor, then repeated the cycle. For 150 daily, tax free, he could afford a decent appartment but he spent it all on liquor

  • First of, there’s welfare and WIC for pregnant women, she and the boy look decently dressed, why would you give money??? In this country I can tell you no one dies of hunger. There’s food banks, shelters and food stamps. Come on, this state even gives out free phones with internet if you meet the low income criteria, what more do you need!

  • how do you not know if that car was donated to her and she lives in the car? YES there are people who are slackers like this but why not confront her and get her story instead of assume?PEOPLE have cars who are homeless and do live in them. AND sometimes people do donate cars to the poor so they can have at least that to live in.. IF someone is wealthy for sure and doing this then they need exposed. BUT get their story before you judge them.

  • There is a beggar nearby a chinese restaurant at my place. I never give money, instead I buy the guy some chinese food on my way out of the restaurant. That’s a safe way to spot fakes : give them food, not money, the fake ones will take it in a way that says “awww i don’t want that” and might even refuse it in a very rude manner (I got insulted once buy a guy that sprung out of nowere like a pimp having his girls beeing talked to too long, not that I should know huh). And the ones truly in need will be gratefull as they are genuinely hungry. I know the guy at the chinese restaurant is really in need, but I also know he could spend the money on something stupid like cigarettes or booze, and still starve. So if you wanna be generous and do real good yet still defeat scammers, give food, not money.

  • I agree with some others here. Offer food and if they decline, walk away. I’m from the Chicago area and have seen this all of my life. You would be totally shocked at the number of these “beggars” that live better than you and I. Give to food pantries and even people take advantage of that. They go get the free food so that they can sell their food stamps for cash for alcohol and drugs.

  • This happens way more than we know. Often, I see people on WIC, Food Stamps, and State aid and when leaving the State of Oregon building get in a Cadillac Escalade, Mercedes, and on one occasion in a Bentley Continental GT. There are way too many people that have figured how to mooch off the system and fraud the American taxpayer and government.

  • This is so upsetting to see because one time I literally was down to my last money and gave it to a homeless person and my few groceries I had just bought only for me to see him pull out an envelope overflowing with cash. More than I had. For now I will only give them food if I think they really need it. Never money

  • I am homeless. living in my truck. trying to get my life back. it was caused by my job screwing. e. I am not a druggie. not an alcholic. just another former Marine who got screwed so the boss could get his bonus. p.s. when I have money I help the homeless too. no questions asked. it’s their choice what they do with the money I give. people in this country do need help.

  • Its not about what model the Mercedes they’re driving or how much its worth. The fact that they have a very capable body, vision, non-impaired pair of hands, legs, and many other ways to earn an honest living besides begging and exploiting stranger’s kindness. the general conception of beggars is that you won’t have the means to own and operate a personal vehicle(paying it off, insurance, gas etc.), and certainly wont have the means to keep your clothes neat, clean and tidy while begging on the streets like it was a picnic… These people know that panhandling for an hour can make them 10x more then working at a low-wage job. They are definitely not idiots, they’re just plain opportunists with zero dignity. These are the new generation panhandlers! Stop giving them money, and they will stop the nuisance.

  • In Seattle after work I used to walk around looking for homeless and offered them $1, a Gatorade, a banana, a granola bar, a tooth brush, and sometimes the clothes off my back. Other times I’d go shopping and bring them supplies. I found most of them wanted $$$ for drugs and many had no wish of leaving the street life. Many refused the shelters because they have to be clean. I give exclusively to organizations now.

  • This women maybe a scammer but having a 10 year old or more Mercedes does not mean you have money or cant be homeless. That car is not worth more than $6,000. People useally ditch there homes before there cars because of the difficulty to sell and beacuse a car can be a place where you sleep and use to be mobile.

  • I don’t give money to beggars anymore. I have seen this all too often. I especially won’t give money to anyone that panhandles and brings their kids. Sometimes I have seen 2/3 kids and all well dressed. The other red flag is when they have a sign that says HUNGRY and you offer to buy them food and they decline because they want the money. This really does spoil it for those that really need the help and you feel good that you made a difference in their day by blessing them with a monetary donation to help them get food or a motel for the night.

  • I feel sorry for her, those cars are rolling piles of junk that break down all the time and its an older model too, I’ve had both BMW and Mercedes, they both suck, no wonder she has to resort to panhandling, they are expensive to fix too and always breaking down … she should get a used Toyota Camry or corolla and she won’t have to panhandle anymore
