Is there any truth in Vedic astrology?

Astrology has been criticized by the scientific community for lacking explanatory power for describing the universe. Scientific testing has been conducted, but no evidence has been found to support the premises or purported effects outlined in astrological traditions. Despite its status as a pseudoscience, astrology retains a position among the sciences in modern India. In 2001, India’s University Grants Commission and Ministry of Human Resource Development introduced “Jyotir Vigyan” or “Vedic astrology” as a discipline of study in Indian universities, stating that it allows for accurate predictions on time scale. This decision was backed by a 2001 judgement of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

Despite widespread protests from the scientific community and Indian scientists working abroad, the Supreme Court dismissed a petition in 2004 that astrology was not a promotion of religion. In 2011, the Bombay High Court referred to the 2004 ruling when it dismissed a case challenging astrology’s status as a science. As of 2014, astrology continues to be taught at various universities in India, and there is a movement to establish a national Vedic University to teach astrology alongside the study of tantra, mantra, and yoga.

Can I learn astrology on my own?

Tracking the moon’s phases and location is a valuable tool for learning about astrology and your chart. The moon changes signs every two to three days, and tracking it can help you identify planets and topics in your chart. Getting a professional astrology reading with someone who resonates with you is also a great way to connect with your chart and transits. Each astrologer has a unique way of relating to and translating astrological concepts, making it a fun and engaging way to learn about astrology.

How to learn Vedic astrology step by step?

Starting to learn Vedic Astrology involves a combination of study, practice, and ongoing learning. To become a professional astrologer, one should first learn the basics of astrology, including zodiac signs, planets, houses, aspects, and birth chart interpretation. Understanding planetary dignities and debilities is also essential. Astrology has various systems, including Western, Vedic, and Hellenistic, and it is essential to choose the system that resonates with you.

If aiming for professionalism, consider deepening your knowledge in a specific tradition. Keeping a learning journal, joining astrology communities, and participating in online courses and webinars can also help in this journey.

Where to start Vedic astrology?

To become a scholar in Vedic Astrology, start by understanding the basics of planets, houses, and zodiac signs through books and online courses. Enroll in a diploma or degree program at a recognized institution like Vedic Wellness University for structured learning. Practice by reading charts and offering free consultations to friends and family to hone skills and gain practical insights into astrological interpretations.

How accurate are Vedic astrologers?

In this article, Won, an astrologer, addresses the ongoing debate surrounding the precision of Vedic astrology in comparison to Western astrology. She asserts that Vedic astrology’s time calculations are more precise than those of Western astrology, and that the use of divisional charts and timing analysis is more detailed and accurate. Additionally, Won underscores the precision of the dasha timing system as a means of discerning personal timing and predictions.

How to learn astrology as a beginner?

Astrology is the study of the alignment of planets, often at the time of a person’s birth. It helps people identify personality traits and gain insight into their lives. Anyone with an interest in astrology can learn how it works and apply the principles to create and interpret astrological charts of their own. Sun signs are commonly thought to determine individual traits, but all astrological signs are present on a person’s chart at the time of birth.

The sun travels through all of the signs of the zodiac as the year progresses, with their alignment with each sign being as follows: Aries: March 20 to April 22; Taurus: April 21 to May 22; Gemini: May 21 to June 22; Cancer: June 21 to July 22; Leo: July 21 to August 22; Virgo: August 21 to September 22; Libra: September 21 to October 22; Scorpio: October 21 to November 22; Sagittarius: November 21 to December 22; Capricorn: December 21 to January 22; Aquarius: January 20 to February 19; Pisces: February 18 to March 21.

What is the best way to start learning astrology?

To start studying Vedic astrology, research and find appropriate sources is the best method. It is essential to learn the basics of the subject, such as the positions of constellations in the sky, which represent different areas of life, such as self, family, career, and marriage. Each house is associated with a sign, a planet, and an aspect of life. Understanding these basic points is crucial for analyzing Vedic astrology effectively.

How is Vedic astrology so accurate?

Vedic astrology uses the sidereal zodiac, based on fixed star positions, unlike Western astrology’s tropical zodiac. The systems differ in fundamental principles and basis, with Western astrology based on Greek astronomy and aligning with the Gregorian calendar, and Vedic astrology heavily rooted in Hindu philosophy and spirituality. Concepts like karma, reincarnation, and dharma play significant roles in interpretations, while Western astrology is deeply rooted in Hellenistic and ancient Greek philosophy and traditions.

Can you trust Vedic astrology?

Can you trust Vedic astrology?

Astrology is considered pseudoscience due to its lack of scientific validity and effectiveness in controlled studies. There is no proposed mechanism for how stars and planets affect people and events on Earth, which contradicts well-understood aspects of biology and physics. Modern scientific inquiry focuses on the correlation between astrological traditions and seasonal birth in humans. Most professional astrologers rely on astrology-based personality tests and make predictions about the remunerator’s future.

Those who continue to believe in astrology are characterized as doing so despite the lack of verified scientific basis and strong evidence to the contrary. Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson emphasized the importance of understanding how nature shapes the world around us, as without this knowledge, individuals can easily become victims of those seeking to take advantage of them.

  • Great 👍🏽 presentation one ☝🏽 correction “Mercury represents the mind and intellect, and rules Gemini, (the sign of duality), and also Virgo. It has it’s exaltation in Aquarius. Mercury is an airy planet, associated with all forms of communication and the in-flow and out-flow of intelligence and communication. Its position indicates how your mental function will be expressed, and where techniques and skills are available to you”. Information ℹ️ from the time passages App

  • First 3 are biggies: Sun (soul purpose at 26:20) and 31:20 second house. Rahu (52:10) finding the blind spot Ketu (52:46) antidote (mirror) – always the opposite 7 houses away continuing general.RA In the third house (younger siblings)- Ketu in 9th 1:02:35 Saturn 1:27:03 – obstacle, hurdle, delay but not deny, develop. Saturn in the fifth house 1:36:16 Moon – general (1:45:09) -your special talent, emo mind, like something 4th house (1:48:38)

  • I am super impressed to see that you truly have taken tremendous interest as well as efforts to understand our culture, our mythology and the Vedic Astrology. And most importantly your way of teaching this ancient science…its EASY yet EFFECTIVE. Thank you so much Simon.. GANESHA BLESS YOU ABUNDANTLY 🙂

  • You’re a brilliant teacher and a beautiful soul. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Vedic astrology is fairly new to me, but I have always been in love with western astrology, although now Vedic astrology seems way more accurate. My chart has completely changed, and it makes so much sense, as I have sun, moon, mars, and Mercury in the 8th house in Capricorn. In western astrology, all those planets were in the 9th house in Aquarius. I always had way too much depth, and now it all makes so much sense. I can’t wait to watch the rest of your articles. 🕊

  • Simin, I don’t know if you’ll ever read this or not, but just in case- thank you so much! This has been a fabulous introduction to Vedic Astrology for me. I clicked on this article on a whim when it came up as a suggestion. I’ve never been able to find a way of learning Astrology- any Astrology- that worked for me. I had a passing curiousity and I’ve picked up an occasional book on the subject. So I’ve tried a little but I doubt I ever would’ve taken a class or tried much harder to learn because I thought that it must not be for me. This article single handedly changed my mind. I’m interested. I’ll continue to watch your content and if I keep feeling this engaged, I’ll likely progress to taking courses (I found your website where you provide them). I didn’t expect this. Thanks!!

  • Thank so much for this lesson, you are certainly honoring your sun in the 6th house. I nearly cried when you spoke about the Sun in the fourth house, because whatever I do, the money only comes to go to retreats and studies concerning Ancestors, family constellations, karma release, conflict resolution for releasing Karma, Chanting, Jyotish, whatever else I have in mind, just doesn’t work. Pleasing my ancestors and releasing the karma of my family and people that surrounds me, its the only way my money goes and my life works. I usually have a place to live and a car, never ostentatious. My grandfather’s life was not honoured, during Franco’s dictatorship and he went through terrible hardship as many other people on the wrong side of oppression and in particular civil war, and I just feel spirit was talking to me through this article, because I am so indecisive about my life purpose and how to spend my energy and money and you just made something very clear, with the Sun in the fourth house. I cant thank you enough. With gratitude, and wishing you rewards for your work 1000fold

  • Simon 35 years ago I bought all Cherio books on Palmisty. read them all and found I was quite good at reading hands so I was told. For the last 4 years I’ve been looking into Vedic Astrology which is so interesting it could take 2 life times to fully understand lol, I still cant help looking at hands when am talking to anyone !. Brenda.

  • Love this!! I have my Sun in the 5th house, and yes.. Rahu in my 8th house! And yes.. I am the outsider! Ex addict, criminal, pimp..! All of that! However, Even though I have been out of that lifestyle for many years, My family refuses to speak to me..! Crazy enough, it was my wife and kids who played a huge role in my flipping my life around..! And yes.. I can see how ministry and children are my soul propose..! So on point it’s almost scary! Lol Thanks again for this great article!

  • You are a great instructor! Material is very understandable. I am a newbie to astrology. If I had to put a grade on it, I would be in later elementary school I think. I started off with the western/Placidus system. In this system, I have Rahhu conjunct Mars in the 3rd house/Katu conjunct Pluto in the 9th. I am a legally blind person and my question is: in Vedic astrology, is there a house/planet that indicates disabilities? FYI: if anyone is wondering, I use the accessibility feature on the iPhone called VoiceOver. It allows blind/visually impaired people to use the smart phone. See the accessibility features in the settings.

  • I listened attentively to your astrological explanation of Zvedic astrology. I appreciate your insights. My Mercury is in retrograde in the 12th. Would you mind making a article about retrograde planets. I have Moon in the 4th conjunction with Neptune retrograde. Saturn in the 5th retrograde. So you see, I wonder if your concepts apply to me. Thanks for sharing.

  • Great article, but you skipped Saturn in 6th and 8th, both of which are the MOST confusing to interpret (maybe save for 12th). I was exactly waiting to hear those. For instamce, how is anything in the 6th or 8th you would desire? I know all houses have multiple interpretations and 8th could stand for sex, or 6th could be subordinates. BUT, the primary significations are not really desirable – servitude and enemies for 6th, and death and loss for 8th. So how is Saturn ‘delaying but not denying’ anything there if nobody wants the stuff these houses offer in the first plays? Can anyone help? Btw, my Saturn isn’t in either of those, but I was looking forward to those, because I find them the most vague and unclear.

  • Its crazy..i been looking for ways to learn astrology as i been having interest for it a few years ready..and lately thought its ok will just do it..bt then i quit my job and been having financial problems.wondering how will i really learn it.everyone is charging fees and offcoz its not their fault but then where will i fund the money.so i thought its okay, i will just wait till i get some money and then boom i saw this.and i literally teared..thank you so much.at least i can use books and ideas from your articles to first understand whats happening in my life. Thank you

  • This was marvelous and I’m grateful.I don’t understand the approach to the 11th House. I am no expert and am not stating that I’m correct but Aquarius seems to be looked at differently in this article than I view it and I think most others view it (although I agree with many things said about it). Aquarius seems to have to do more with individuality. Whats the “Vedic” view? I have sun in Aquarius and it seems to fit rebellion, revolutionary thinking, and relation to groups, for instance. I can’t identify with much attributed to the 11th house here. Is there something different I’m not understanding perhaps?

  • I have Rahu in the 8th house and have always had a fixation on uncovering occulted knowledge as well as a preoccupation with my own mortality (although I know I’ll continue after it, and even have a couple memories of before incarnating on this lifetime, so I know how incredible the other side is). I have had some of the other negative influences (for instance it took me a long time to become comfortable setting boundaries around sex and breaking the feeling of being sexually obligated to anyone who was interested, regardless of my interest). I’ve never felt particularly attached to being here, and often have felt like the ugly duckling who accidentally incarnated here when I wasn’t supposed to and I’m constantly seeking answers on why I’m here, who I am, and dealing with the frustration of how we have it memory wiped when we incarnate. Not sure how that plays in, but that’s been a primary fixation since at least a early as 3 years old.

  • Dear Sir, I like your presentation ver much. Beeing an educated astrologer. What I do not really understand is, that (because vedic astrlogy uses the siderial zodiac) puts the “things” like one sign behind (behind where western astrology puts them). At the same time it interprets the positions according to “normal” astrological interpretation would. Why can this work?

  • I wish I knew about you back in March of 22. I had to figure out all of this on my own because nobody would help me. Facebook group would just say,”you’ll come around if you hang around.” You have no idea all the things I had to do to figure out the houses, the planets, signs, elements, modalities etc. Very challenging.

  • Look i have yo say something here 49.11 the 8th house is not all you said or not only. It’s also the opposite! It can be Karmic “luck”. It’s comforting it’s a refuge. It’s that place where you go when outside is stormy. It’s Ali Baba’s cavern! Full of sparkling treasures, it’s magic. It can be dirty or sublime. I have my 8th house in Virgo with a small but heavy stellium Venus Pluto and Uranus all conjunct and intercepted. I had to deal with few nasty witches that tried really hard to spoil my life but i managed to survive! They are paying though… and I didn’t even had to lift a finger!!! I really wanted to here more about sun 7th house but you just skipped it….

  • I study vedic astrology and my professor read my whole chart. But I am asian. I love how accurate the reading than western astrology. That I study first but makes me only confuse not because it’s wrong. Since cultural differences still respected. But I find out how western is more psychological effect and western is the deepest of you. But vedic astrology resonates me more and its easy for me to understand even though a little challenges with hindu terminology. I love how vedic astrology forms and reveals truly understanding and guidance through the sky! ❤

  • THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! What an incredible lesson 👏🏽 as someone who’s fairly familiar with the system, I still found myself learning quite a bit (I love how you framed Rahu and Ketu, so interesting!). I also enjoyed the celebrity examples, it didnt seem like the crowd were too responsive but I found they helped ground the teaching and bring a lot of the concepts to focus. I know its been said up and down this comment section but it begs repeating – you’re a really good teacher. You’ve managed to break down what can often be really intimidating knowledge, to something really accessible and easily understandable. I only wish I’d found you earlier 😅 I love the environment you create too, very open! Thank you once again. Great info. 👍🏽

  • Very interesting to listen to. Vedic astrology is very comprehensive to learn. I hope you will do more articles on astrology, specifically Vedic. Thanks for sharing this on YouTube 🙏 I have one query, why some website generate different Vedic birth charts. What do I have to take in consideration, East,South or North Indian chart? Thanks.

  • When you read the eighth house.. I have dark thoughts alright ..Jupiter and moon are there with 9th house (cusp) together in the same sign, they form a yoga. I can control the thoughts better and produce posotive results. Music especially opens the darkness in me and very honourable energy. Both dark and light. Very powerful emotions. As moon is emotions. Jupiter is expanse.. I can tell you, if you don’t have an eighth moon and jupiter…it is superb. It’s not as bad. The power I feel is worth all the money in the world. It runs through my body like an electric current. Rendering me from any fete of mind. I feel immune to anything.

  • You should put subtext during the prayer so that those online can learn it. Just a suggestion. Can herbalists and people who use essential oils to help others be seen in the 8th house? Could 12th house also be the house of transformations or the legend of the phoenix? lol Ill stop and take your full class. So many questions.

  • Its opposite mate antidote is Rahu n not ketu.. for eg if rahu is in 6th house so his antidote is not spirituality or escaping, to be honest that guy will be alredy in 12th house caught with spirituality or seeking escape by using substance and to find fullfillment (antidote) he has to go to 6th house to follow his daily routine n to showup, n in longterm he has to keep balance with the positivity of 12th house like spirituality of moksha. Hope that make sense.

  • I have Rahu in the 8th house and Ketu in 2nd. Currently, I am running through rahu mahadasha. There is definitely a sense of suffering. The worst thing is I feel like I am surrounded by a fog. I don’t know what to do in any area. I am totally lost. I don’t think I will fully recover from its effects ever in this life. But seriously, this is the worse place for Rahu, considering that I have sun conjunct with it. There are ten more years left of this dasha. God help me !! lol

  • I have gone to several Vedic websites and they all calculate my birth chart different (different ascendents, house placements). I have no idea what to go by. What’s a good accurate website that will calculate my birth chart? In western astrology, it’s always the same. I’m finding Vedic astrology difficult.

  • THANK YOU!! I’ve taken two classes, am perusal KSR, have had my Vedic horoscope done twice, plus cast it myself several times online, have a deck of descriptive cards, and the book Light on Life. This is the FIRST TIME I’ve seen an explanation of this (Roman vs. Arabic numerals) in three months since I started. Everyone assumes one knows this. SMH.

  • The first house is the most important. But there’s nothing in my first house, except the moon which is 0.4 degrees inside first house. There’s nothing else infact in the first 6 houses haha. Aight I have sun in 12th house scorpio, I think it’s fair to say I’ve yet to achieve enlightenment. I have rahu in 8th house cancer, so what.. it’s because I still haven’t as of yet suffered enough emotionally. Jesus 😂 I’m not sure I’m gonna get there if suffering is trying to be enforced on my to teach me something. I see suffering as simply compassion in disguise. Tough love as they say. The solution to that blind spot you say would be to see the suffering of others. I see it trust me, but what’s good for the goose is good for the gander. People suffer I know breaks my heart. But it’s for their own good in the long run, just as it is for me…. Still not enlightened though 😅 Regardless im starting to think there’s no difference between vedic and western astrology at all other than where they ‘draw the lines’ the correspondances are the same. No different to where people draw lines on a map

  • Dear reader, if you are holding in your hands the book “Legends of the Phoenix” by A.V.Trehlebov,then in just a moment a magnificent journey awaits you filled with fascinating knowledge about the hidden history of our world and some of the most fascinating societal processes to ever occur. If you have already read a few dozen books on the subject but are still asking yourself the questions “Who am i?” “What is my purpose here?” or “Why do we die?” then this book will become a treasure within your library. If you are still searching for the answers to the age old questions of the origins of life on earth, the origins and evolution of our modern civilization, the origins of different races, the true history of the people on earth, our spiritual growth as humans, or the universal laws of the universe, then this book has come to you at the right time. Through years of scientific study, this non-fiction tractate is written in a simple yet fascinating manner and is suitable for all readers. The phoenix, as in the title of the book, is an ancient Russian symbol symbolizing the rebirth of Russia and the Slavic people. From folk tales it is written that these birds rise from their ashes, are then reborn in a magical flame and appear in a purer form. Since history has always been written by, and for the benefit of the current rulers, disregarding any previous facts or knowledge, we use the experience and heritage of our ancestors which have been laid out in the “Legends of the Phoenix.” “Legends of the Phoenix” is devoted to the revival of the ancient, million year old culture and heritage of the Slavic people.

  • Could some kind soul help me with a quick answer, please? I’m stuck. I recently began studying the basics. I learned the 12 Houses fixed placement from Simon. The lesson used Roman numerals for House numbers in a Northern style chart. I then cast my natal online (the site uses Kala). That chart contains Arabic numerals ‘all over the place’, out of ‘sequence’, and some Houses have two Arabic numerals. So, I’m thinking they’re not House numbers, but I can’t find what they are. I’ve been searching online and in “Light of Life”, but can’t find an explanation for what those Arabic numbers represent. Maybe I’m not looking for the right thing, but I don’t know what they’re called in order to search properly. What do those Arabic numerals represent? Thank you for any help on this.

  • my sun jupiter mars and mercury are in eight house in saggitarius. 10th lord saturn is in 10th house. I wish it was also in 8th house. I heard lord of 10th house involvement is necessary for true sanyas yoga. I lack courage to take sanyas but I will definately be an unmarried celibate even though I may not leave world totally and go in monastry. My rahu is in 5th Moon in 6th Venus in 9th At one point I was obsessed with finding my soulmate. Now I donot want such human relations I want to pursue spirituality but does 4 planets in 8th and rahu in 5th shows a sex addict person ? but I am not.. I am interested in spirituality not sensuality.

  • I like the idea and do believe in match making on finding the accurate partner the thing is most western cultures don’t believe in astrology or horoscopes so how am i to find the right person? esp for my nature I feel that I really need to see if our horoscopes match. Do you know any good online dating sites or matrimonials where western minded people believe in astrology? If so please kindly recommend me. Thank you.

  • Thank you sir, my name is Guru from Bangalore very facilitated with astrology and in my families life we have been lucky to have come across very good ancient practise astrologers, but now in my late 30s I am wanting to learn and understand it, and none other than your article has kick started this for me wonderfully, thank you sir, if you are ever in India please would love to meet you. Please give me your email id so I can share my contact with you. Thank you so much
