Prime The Strite Pool Pump?

To prime a pool pump, turn off the pump, switch to recirculate, release air, clean out the pump basket, fill the pump basket, ensure the air release valve is open, and turn the power to the pump on. Check the water flow to the pump and close the air pressure release valve once the water is constantly flowing.

To prime a pool pump, start by turning it off and flipping the breaker to your pool system to avoid electrocution. Turn the multi-port valve on the pipes next to the pump to “recirculate”, and turn the air valve on top of the filter counterclockwise. Priming a pool pump involves getting water flowing through it in advance of turning it on. If the pump is not full of water, it can overheat or even malfunction.

Tighten the drain plugs and test valves, and wrap the pump in bubble wrap to protect it from cold temperatures but leave room for airflow around the motor. A pool pump must be primed to properly function.

A common cause of pool pump priming issues is a deteriorated drain plug o-ring. Other brands of pumps may also have this issue. To prime a pool pump, turn off the pump, direct the water, unblock the flow, and make sure the pump is full of water.

To prime the pump at the beginning of each pool season, turn off the power, remove the pump lid, fill the pump with water, check and lubricate the O-Ring, and replace the pump lid.
