Getting started in Blood Magic has changed slightly since 1.7.10. Instead of finding a Diamond to craft a Blood Altar, players need to obtain Demonic Will. To get your first bit of Will, you’ll need to craft some Soul.
In Blood Magic 2 for Minecraft version 1.12.2, players need to know everything to get started, including Rudimentary Snares, Demonic Wills, and Hellfire. Single ring summons require a Master Blood Orb, while two ring summons require an Archmage Blood Orb. Each killed demon will drop a Demon Crystal. Blood Magic is centered around the manipulation of blood, or life essence. Players start by crafting Rudimentary Snares and tossing them at hostile mobs. A Blood Altar can be upgraded to transmute different items at the cost of blood essence. Crafting a blood orb requires filling up the altar with 2000 LP and right-clicking it with a Diamond.
To begin Blood Magic, it is recommended to have a few valuable materials lying around. The first block created is the Blood Orb.

been a while since I’ve played with blood magic but if I remember correctly at tier 2 the blood alter only acknowledges the upgrade runes to its sides but not the corners, it only recognizes the corners at higher tiers so that may be the source of confusion with the percentage, its not that its applying to half your hearts but at this tier only half the runes you placed are being acknowledged
