I’ve seen this movie like 50 times. I’ve always wished this series of events was extended for like…. an extra hour. Truman just testing people and seeing what all he can get away with. Asking the other “townsfolk”for very specific information about who they are, walking into ALL the buildings, committing crimes that only he could know about, etc. His realization he’s on a little movie set is just blink over and suddenly he’s trying to escape. One good reason to delete the wheelchair/jogger part is because the director would have noticed him giving his sandwich to the wheelchair guy, and because of that they would NOT have recast him in a jogging role. Evern if they might have done it before (i.e., “Okay, this week you’re a random guy in a wheelchair, and next week you’ll be a random jogger”), the moment Truman interacted meaningfully with the wheelchair characdter, that would have changed future directorial plans.
There are countless things I really like about the filmmaking in this movie, but even looking at this deleted scene my favourite aspect is still clear. I’ve always really liked how you can’t really tell when you’re perusal from the ‘audiences’ perspective, and from the films perspective. Every shot could be well done cinematography from the cinématographes (which technically all are), or they could be very well placed hidden cameras. You never know who’s lens you’re viewing from. Spectacular.
For sure after Truman gets out… he will sue Kristof & the network for intentional inflicting trauma, invasion of privacy, fear, attempted murder, moral damages & he will be billionaire. … he will get rich, for royalties of the product placements & his intellectual property right to publish his story. Not only that, he is already a celebrity, he can guest to various tv shows & endorsements etc!
The writers and director did such a good job making him seem like he was forced here, and like he doesn’t really belong, all while being the center of attention and being forced to stay. Truman’s fake laughs, the camera angles, his position amongst the rest of the cast. So well done. It’s a really well written dichotomy.
I once saw an artist walking on a tredmill with a sign that says. This is you. This is your life. That guy always reminded me of The Truman Show. His piece of art was meant to state that life is an illusion. You only think you’re living it, but really you’re just walking in place the entire time. You never get ahead, you never go anywhere, you just keep doing the same thing over and over again until you die. Kinda like Truman. Everything is fine as long as he keeps doing the same thing he’s always been doing, but the second he changes things up the whole thing falls apart.
This movie shows you how each incarnated life works: your soul is injected into a new body (actor who doesn’t remember where he’s coming from) and then you are ready to go into a life (movie, simulation) where most of the people you meet, you have already met before in other lives (“recycled” souls but incarnated in different roles) and everything about the major events in your life and the people you will deal with was decided a-priori. And your higher self and spirit guides are there perusal, behind the scenes, like spectators, at how well you perform this time, how well you will learn the lessons you have to learn. You get programmed via education, politics, religion to start with. Then a trauma here, an obstacle there, a little shot of luck, diseases, death of beloved ones, a new lover, a bunch of friends, a job in a certain role… all already determined before you even came to life. Still some free will to get from point A to point B of your life, but A and B are pre-determined already. The Truman show is a phenomenal metaphor of life, The Matrix is its Sci-Fi equivalent. The message is the same. Wake up. Truman manages to do it and shows you the way. YES! I always knew that the build-up to Truman’s realisation that the world really was “revolving around him” should have taken longer and been more of a deep and extraordinary revelation to Truman himself – it has always felt too much as if he effectively jumped straight from “vague suspicion” of the truth to “near-certain knowledge” – i.e. to the point where he begins to step in front of moving traffic because he KNOWS for near-enough sure that the vehicles will stop for him and he is in no danger. I have ALWAYS felt that this particular part of the film was a little “rushed” – and it is a crucially important part, not only with respect to Truman’s self-realisation, but also because it equally reveals (even via one characteristically brief shot/line of dialogue) so much of the character, motivations, and paradoxical power/neediness of Christof, in showing both his complete control over every actor in “his” mini-world (that one quote: “Remember who you are”… such a telling and brilliant line, conveying not only Christof’s power, but also the irony of the Truman Show itself, since the actors are, of course, actually “remembering” who they are NOT, of course…), as well as underlining Christof’s own genuine and evident concern on seeing that Truman is losing faith in his artifical reality (which, of course, threatens the self-made meaning of Christof’s own life: the mutually dependent “creator-creation” relationship which is founded upon Truman) – and now I know why it felt rushed – it’s because it was, due to the cuts shown here (and perhaps more?

When I was a child everything was magic in nature but not in people. Then I grew up and looking at people in the streets I felt like they are all mad, behaving as if on a stage all the time. The thing which sends a chill up my spine is the strikingly similar feeling that I’ve lived this kind of life before in my 20’s… Everyone around me treated me like this and my bank account ended up empty. This should be categorised as a Horror movie. Every second of this movie is carefully planned to show us the “real” world we all want to believe we live in. The movie Matrix also describes a world similar to this where Neo finally awakens and realises that it is ALL a lie. Many more like this. They are trying to tell us this for years, but we are too afraid, unlike Truman.
If you love The Truman Show, I highly recommend that you check out Bowfinger. It’s about a skeleton crew of indie filmmakers who put a major star into their movie with him realizing he’s in it… and it’s a Sci-Fi movie. 😂 It’s also got Eddie Murphy and Steven Martin, who also wrote it, in it. Both are 2 of my favorite movies of all time.
Truman was the 33rd president of the United States and took office with the end of World War 2. Operation paperclip proceeded for the duration of his presidency. The 33rd president created the CIA and NASA came from the same program. Literally the very first thing the CIA did was begin overseeing the media (later evolved into mockingbird, which was in full effect at the time of Kennedy’s death). ‘The Truman Show’ is an even bigger metaphor than you think. We’ve been living in Truman’s Show since he took office, ever since he established the infrastructure to ‘put on the show’. Only a few of us snap out of it like the character in this movie.
I did DMT once, the walls went white and my two friends quickly painted the room furniture and art back up one paint stroke at a time… I heard them say hurry get it back before he wakes up… I have been living as Truman since.. suspicious that many others here are part of the illusion, or trapped and ignorant of their captivity which ultimately makes them take part in reinforcing the awakening ones illusion using drama, trauma, lower carnal desires and other emotional conflict which are outside of their control, otherwise they’re just slaves to the rhythm.
SPONTANEITY is something the controllers can’t handle because it puts them off track… they like you to be repetitive so they are always one step ahead which they can’t achieve through your Spontaneity. I’ve tried this accidentally at first…changing my mind in seconds on taking my usual path and instead quickly veering into another street. Something happened as I felt so free and everything looked peaceful and beautiful.i couldn’t understand it at first but then I again incidentally took a path that wasn’t my initial choice but in seconds changed my mind and low and behold that path had a tree that wasn’t supposed to be there as it blocked a view I liked. I saw the local dog walker and asked her when the tree was planted there….she replied it was always there. I was shocked because I knew differently. I seemed to strangely forget about until a few days later when I decided to nip to the store on this short cut path. Before I left I heard a voice in my head say “remember the tree” so I rushed to the path and the tree was gone…I checked the area and noticed an old tree stump in that exact spot. Weird or what ?! Then twice I’ve seen alongside others…thank goodness….twice in fact in different areas…large passenger aeroplanes flying so low and at funny angles that looked like they were on a projection screen…they noise they made was loud..one as if they were landing..the other as if they were taking off but none near the airport to do this manoeuvre’ s. All strange but True.
About ten years ago in my early twenties I took a massive amount of shrooms and went to a state park. Long story short I came out running from inside that Forrest in total fear, and the people outside in the entrance made me feel almost identical to this if not worse. I felt like everyone knew everything about me and would be glancing at me. Took me a long time to recover from that
I have a slightly different view of what the intention is behind the making of this movie and it’s not to give you clues or to help you become awoke to your reality. It was made in order to mock you. “They” tell you exactly what and how your reality since birth has been constructed knowing that most won’t see the truth in it and those that do are unable to do anything about it. Either way they laugh at your ignorance or your helplessness. Ask yourself why does the news choose certain stories to be considered news worthy. Out of billions of possibilities why those stories? If you decide to pay attention you might notice the underlying theme is always negative. Psychology says the more something is repeated the more it becomes true and that’s even if at the outset you knew it to be false. My best advice is to critically analyze everything that you are told. Ask yourself why am I being told this is popular, why have we been told that this country is our enemy, why must there always be an enemy to fear, why is it ok for our family members to die fighting this supposed “just cause” why if the “cause” is so just that our leaders don’t bare arms and join in the fight? Truman is playing the role of targeted individuals. The movie is so similar to our lives, especially people playing different roles in our lives and seeing them at different times in our lives. This film is a good argument that there are walk-ins in our lives, many, some people’s lives have this mysterious X-Files storyline. If you want to find Easter eggs or somehow equate this with real life, try this. Ed Harris who plays Christoff runs the show which is a faked event, and his office is in the “moon”. In Apollo 13, he was Gene Krantz running everything, sending men to the Moon, which some think was a fake event. A TV show. Haha
I see this game everyday in my life. First I thought I am so odd that people recognise my weirdness instantly and act in a certain way. It’s kind of like my appearance triggeting them for something but as times passes I realize it’s nothing but a show, article game or simulation. I never go out of my house yet I am the most famous person in this entire world, come on really? Dear aliens, make some sense at least when you develop a game. Don’t forget your human characters have an advanced AI brain that can see your stupid patterns.
I could see The Truman Show rebooted as a slow burn mini series only with us the audience being shown what is intended for the in-universe audience. We shouldn’t realize it’s an in-universe TV show until Truman does. We aren’t down the control room, except for promos/trailers/extras. The director’s voice is never heard except for the climatic ending.
It is not easy to see patterns when you are born and lived your whole life inside this isolated simulation. Because you are used to it, you simply won’t know any better, and won’t be able to spot right from wrong. Weird things happen around you all the time, so how will you spot a weird thing? In our world, things are always questioned. Nothing has fixed patterns and unexpected things always happen. Therefore the human mind will find the need to cope and predict unexpected situations. Since it is part of our survival and our need of progress. In a world like the Truman Show, you won’t need these abilities. And the only vision you have is tunnel vision. However, that doesn’t mean someone will forever behave in predicted manners. Humankind is unpredictable. And that goes also for people like Truman. As soon as someone realizes everything around him/her is about themselves, you will see weird behavior coming in. My prediction would be more that Truman begins to believe that he is more of a divine creature that can control and manipulate the world and other people in his benefit. He will begin to think he is all knowing, instead of thinking about a simulation. The people behind the scenes will in fact work with him instead of against him, keeping him away of asking those critical questions. By steering him more towards what he already believes, they can then create a new tunnel vision. It would also make it into a very interesting TV show, where he thinks he is literally divine. To control him you could send in actors who play as gods coming from above, giving him new tasks and recognition in what he believes.
