Did the Amulet book series end?

Amulet, a graphic novel series by Kazu Kibuishi, was announced in 2014 as a trilogy of trilogies, with the final volume expected to be released in 2021. However, the release date was pushed back to November 8, 2022, and the book would take about another year to publish. In April 2023, Kibuishi announced that he had completed the 9th volume and was working on extra materials and preparing files for print. The final book, Waverider, was released on February 6th, 2024.

In 2016, 20th Century Fox and Temple Hill Entertainment announced production of an adaptation of the graphic novel miniseries. The project had been previously set up at Warner Bros. with Will Smith and James Lassiter’s Overbrook Entertainment and Akiva Goldsman’s Weed Road shingle, with Smith’s children, Willow and Jaden, being previously attached to star. Aron Eli Coleite was selected to write and direct the film. However, on June 10, 2021, Kibuishi confirmed on Twitter that the movie was cancelled and the film rights had lapsed back to him.

The series has been a source of controversy, with some sources stating that the project was no longer happening and the rights had lapsed back to Kibuishi. The final book, Waverider, was released on February 6th, 2024.

How old is Emily in each Amulet book?

Emily Hayes, a character in Alledia, has ages from 12 to 14-15, with each character aging about six months in each book. By the final book, Emily would be 16. It’s unclear if time is the same in Alledia as Earth, as the clock in the second book, “The Stonekeeper’s Curse”, only shows 2 o’clock in the afternoon. However, it’s unclear if Alledia has different days, months, and weeks, such as 18 months instead of 12 or 10 days in a week instead of 7. It’s worth considering others’ opinions on this topic.

Is there going to be a 10th Amulet book?

The final book in the ‘Amulet’ series is not ‘Amulet 10,’ but there is a possibility for another series with different characters. Kibuishi has considered this idea, but has other projects to do. He doesn’t reveal any screen-related projects, but mentions that there is a screen-related one and the complete series of ‘Amulet’ books, which he believes readers and fans will always return to.

How old is Emily in Amulet?

Emily Hayes and her brother Navin must travel to the world of Alledia after their mother is abducted by a monster. Emily inherits a powerful amulet from her grandfather and strikes a bargain with a dark creature, realizing her magic amulet is tied to a larger conspiracy concerning the mysterious Elf King. The fate of Alledia is in Emily’s hands. Kazu Kibuishi’s “Amulet” series, originally released in 2008, has not slowed down since its first novel’s release.

The series features colorful characters and intriguing themes, with each volume offering a tightly packed adventure. The constant danger facing the Hayes family, such as the pursuit of the Elf King and the meddling of the voice in the stone, establishes an exhilarating momentum. Kibuishi’s designs are fun, with oddball robots, airships, and cityscapes enlarging the eclectic, wondrous world. While inspired by The Last Airbender and Bone, Alledia still feels fresh, with carnivorous and gaunt elves more suited for Innsmouth than Middle Earth.

  • I’m a bit late to this discussion, even though I’ve already read book 9 a few months ago, but for book 9, it really does feel like Kazu just was tired of the Amulet series & wanted to move on to something new. Emily feels like an encyclopedia that just knows everything, Ikol being an AI makes no sense, a lot of characters like Leon get nothing to do, I actually noticed that there was fewer of these “epic moments” that take up a whole page or two, and I really do feel like the world of Alledia was not done justice. Now, I think I really do understand what essentially is “fantasy world fatigue”, where a writer can get tired from having to constantly focus on a specific fantasy world they made, instead of starting other projects that they’d also want to do, all because that one fantasy world is popular. Another series, “Wings of Fire” has suffered issues like this where the first 13 books were good, book 14 focused on stuff completely unrelated to the issue at hand, & book 15 completely fumbled the ending. How would this be solved? Do something else. Kazu could’ve taken some time away from the Amulet series, focused on The Rema Chronicles instead, and then come back to it. It’s going to take a lot of time to draw a comic anyway, so you might as well take your time.

  • Just finished book 9 last night… I audibly gasped in shock with the robot/ai/ikol reveal. It made NO sense. My theory is Kazu had a great premise to springboard off of, but wrote it linearly and wrote himself into a corner. Instead of digging into characters and doing the hard work to resolve arcs, he creatively procastinated by adding new characters, worlds, and concepts that only compounded his problem. I personally dont think Kazu wanted to do this book, and was possibly wrapping it out purely out of duty, but certainly wasnt out of inspiration. would have loved to see it contained in the Alledia, anarnia like world… and seen Leon, Luger, and others meet their potential… the amount of characters on the sidelines was just Wasteful! Also whats with Logi blowing himself up… then showing up randomly at the end of book 8…. ONLY to be completely absent from book 9!
