Zul’jin is a ranged assassin that gains power as he loses his health, providing passive attack speed bonuses when his health is lowered. He can deal 2,140 to 2,360 Physical damage and places a bleed damage-over-time debuff on each target hit, dealing 1,500 Physical damage every 2 seconds for a total of 10 seconds. Zul’jin is the final boss of the Zul’Aman raid and will use forms of all previous avatar bosses while your raid fights him.
In the game, Zul’jin throws an axe forward, dealing 125 (+4 per level) damage to the first two enemies hit and marking them for 6 seconds. Marked enemies take 50 bonus damage. The card has been updated with the Zul’jin Build Guide, which was released with yesterday’s patch.
Zul’jin is a 10 Mana Cost Legendary Hunter Hero card from the Rastakhan’s Rumble set. It is extremely powerful and replays every spell you have cast earlier in the game. While the targets are random, Zul’jin and Boom perform random tasks, such as generating random spells and choosing random people throughout the raid.
Overall, Zul’jin is flexible and can fit either the role of a Sustained Basic Attacker or a “Mage” with high Ability Damage, depending on his talent. However, the random order/targeting may be unclear, and you may need to trim the deck a bit to ensure it works. Zul’jin was the Warlord of the Amani forest trolls and chieftain of the Amani tribe since before the Second War.

Playing this deck is not an easy task, only pro players can handle it, it has a difficulty of a “genius” Muligan: you are looking to play …
Arathi Humans: OK, convince us to side with either of you. Amani: We be keepin’ away from humons since Tyr slew da dark beast in da glades, possibly savin’ our loa from corruption, but we need ya support against dese elves who sundered de world. Elves: We’ll give you B I G F I R E Arathi: LFM ZA, need heals. Amani: Dude.
One thing I would like to add to your article is that, despite Vol’jin eventually regaining his regeneration at the end of it, in Shadows of the Horde, Vol’jin does in fact not regenerate the huge hole in throat because of his own self doubts. So, perhaps, despite his engagement, maybe Zul’jin had doubts about his ability to squash the high elves even though he continuously rallied against them.
I’ll never forget the first time I encountered Zul’jin playing Warcraft 2 as a kid. The character and his voice effects were so badass. It’s a shame that Zul’jin and the Amani were relegated to villains and punching bags throughout the remainder of Warcraft lore. Thanks for setting the record straight Platinum. Now the people know the TRUTH!
An interesting fact to take into consideration: the troll language is composed of many short words, often compounded together. This shows in troll names as a short given name (i.e. “Vol”) and an honorific tagged on to the front or back (i.e. “‘jin”: elder or chieftain). Zul’jin isn’t a name, it’s a title: “zul” meaning the great and “jin” as seen above. Therefore he is “the great chieftain”.
Does anybody here know what Shungite is? No not Suge Knight, I think he’s locked up in prison. Talking shungite. Anyways, it’s like a two billion year old.. like rock… stone… that protect against frequencies and unwanted frequencies that may be traveling in the air. That’s my story, I bought a whole bunch of stuff, put them around la casa, little pyramids, stuff like that.
Zul’jin never healed his eye or regrew his arm for two reasons: 1: He was pretty old, so his regenerative powers ain’t what they used to be. 2: Especially traumatic injuries can hinder their ability to heal. Even in the real world this happens, such as after people taking a blow to the head the hair growing back white or not growing back at all because of the trauma. Whether it be emotional trauma or hatred, Zul’jin’s healing was scuppered by his inner turmoil.
despite how depressing it is as someone that has loved trolls since Wc2, good article, although a couple of corrections: the troll surviving disembowelment isn’t a tale, it’s something that happened in the novel Vol’jin: Shadows of the Horde, most of the known troll regeneration lore is compiled here: wow.gamepedia.com/Troll#Troll_regeneration and second, fire doesn’t permanently stop a troll’s regeneration either, yes that is the common trope in other franchises but in WoW it only severely slows it down (which still makes it a very useful tool when fighting trolls, of course), but they can just cut off the burnt flesh and bam, regeneration is back, obviously not something that happens mid-combat but yea
I would like to note that, during the quest Kurzen’s Mystery, the player finds tablets that basically have troll holy texts engraved on them. One of the legends is of Gri’lek the wanderer, who is described as having one arm, despite the matter of troll regeneration. It is somewhat implied that he is unable to regenerate his lost arm due to being punished by the spirits, though, and it’s also only a legend, so it might be best to take it with a grain of salt.
I memorized the literal words and can recite it on command for patch 2.3 “Gods of Zul’Aman”. Not only do I not believe Zul’jin did anything wrong, I hold him up as one of the shining kings of the Old Horde… and why Trolls are one of my all time favorite races in the game. Yes, every criticism leveled against them (being losers, not having really much in the way of relevance in the current meta)… everything about them is why I first fell in love with the game. In my old Vanilla days, I was named the Loremaster of Lordaeron (specialty: Trolls) and gave tours to the young uns on the lore. I loved the lore and I specifically fell more and more in love with the game over time as these characters showed up. Zul’jin is still one of my top favorite characters in the lore (to the point I still play HoTs so I can play him and get my team to rage quit because I am objectively shit at that game).
Great article, especially the fitting music choice at 13:46 😊 Did you know that piece, “The Morning”, was written for a drama play called “Peer Gynt”, in which trolls appear? I personally found it amazing! P.s. Zul’jin is a sweety, why they made him cry? Jeez, I wanna hug him 🤗 but, since I am human, he will kill me😅
This was a solid article, kudos there, I am heartened to see the Amani getting some respect & sympathy. Though I’ll note that if I recall the Amani didn’t attack the elves until they’d settled on sacred lands & that the Sunwell originally had no Light magics. Also I am surprised Zanza and his “Arcanum” wasn’t mentioned. On the subject of other articles on trolls, I hope the highly advanced magic and sustainability of the Drakkari gets some regard. They got screwed in canon, but if you actually look at their accomplishments they built a city the size of a country as big as Gilnease under incredibly frigid circumstances & yet somehow produced a surplus of food, had epic sized homes, a functional military, & incredible magics. They even brought down a Necropolis when it attacked them and seemed to only start losing to the Scourge thanks to internal betrayal & sabotage from the Argent Dawn & Zandalari, & even then, before the latter got there, they had seemingly been able to drive off the Scourge or stop its advance.
Random student of International Relations passing by to say, now that the Amani are a client State of the Zandalari Empire, and with their alliance with the horde, this has some massive geopolitical implications, the horde is pretty much a superpower in North of the Eastern Kingdoms, and at the sea, having easy access to Zandalar and Suramar, and don’t forget about Highmountain, which would give them across to resources, and land, and the North of the Jade Forrest, which is close to Zandalar giving them a thigh gripe in the region… The horde is a fucking superpower now, and Zandalar, and the old troll empires are key to that.
Man even though iam a Blood Elf player i have a soft spot for the Amani and feel sad everytime Blizzard throws them under the bus… AGAIN. Maybe they have a comeback like the Zandalari sometime and be a playable faction. The Amani district is absolute horrible in BfA… like most of the lore stuff in BfA.
According to lore, Trolls regenerate even grievous wounds because of their connection to the Loa. – wowpedia.fandom.com/wiki/Ask_CDev#Ask_CDev_Answers_-_Round_2 The information does retell about trolls choosing to not let their wounds regenerate, or that elven magic may be used during torture. It is also likely that the Loa cursed Zul’jin. Perhaps he did something that encouraged their wrath?
To be fair, you could use a similar “This was our land” argument to say that anyone from the Old Gods and their servant races to the Titans and their servant races did nothing wrong. Considering just how many diverse and ancient races have laid claim to the general area of Lordaeron, many of which predate the trolls, it’s a bit of a moot claim. The trolls’ problem is their single-minded obsession with restoring their empire to its former globe-spanning glory, as if that’s ever going to happen. Tribes like the Darkspear smartened up and started allying with the other races on a much more permanent basis instead of constantly declaring war and getting stomped. The Amani on the other hand, like many other troll tribes, simply repeat the same actions and expect different results. If you truly want to restore a fallen empire to its former glory, you have to face facts: You are surrounded by lots of other empires that are just as strong, if not stronger than you. You’ll never win if you have to take them all on at once. You have to learn diplomacy and play nice every once in a while, even with longstanding enemies. You have to build a strong economy, make shrewd diplomatic deals, get some strong and reliable allies on your side, get your neighbors to if not like you, then at least tolerate you enough to stay out of your way. You have to put yourself in a position where you can actually win once you finally do declare war on someone.
I think Zul’jin didn’t regenerate his body parts as the dagger had been coated with a poison that shut off/suppressed the Troll regen power. I think it was still swimming around in his system when the cut off his arm and may have been effect enough to make the damage permanent. (He couldn’t just loop his arm off further up and regrow the whole thing.)
Dear Platinum I discovered your website some months ago thanks to Asmongold and i really love your content.SO I here are some suggestions for future articles 1.The story of the Drakkari tribe 2.The story of Sholazar Bazin 3.The story of Grizzly Hills 4.The story of Nefarian part two (Blackwing Descent)
My personal headcanon for Zul’jin not regenerating: it probably has SUPER demanding nutritional needs and I really doubt the dude was being fed enough in captivity to regenerate an entire arm and complex organ like an eyeball, especially amid regular torture and beatings. He was also kinda old by this point so that might have had an impact.
This article actually made me love every moment i played as arthas in warcraft 3 genociding the elves, back then it was so dark to think about it but now with this info it feels like ironic justice, the elves who bullied trolls by spamming magic get later bullied by the very same legion minions by spamming evil magic
Trolls really do get the short stick in everything. The stuffy elves and humans take their land, we get a troll warchief for one expansion before hes killed off, and even the cool king of trolls gets killed off after years of wanting to see him in game. We even see poor old zul’jin in revendreth as an easter egg and nothing more.
Okay. let me see if I have this right. Trolls come to exist first on Azeroth and lay claim to almost everything. Other races come to be on Azeroth by various means, some are powerful enough like the Mogu to make alliances and deals with the Zandalari and some are weak like the Pandaren and have no right to negotiate. The Dark Trolls mutate into the elves and, like the Zul Empire before them, dominate the world, they even allow the trolls to continue to exist in their ancestral homes, but these mutated trolls are viewed as upstarts and not even trolls anymore, so this sparks an ancient grudge. Over time more races come to be and they all want slices of the Azeroth pie so that they can… exist. Problem is, the trolls claimed almost everything in one way or another and deny any other races rights to exist. Every other race kicks the living shit out of the trolls in order to be allowed to exist, and every other race is a villain because they want to exist, but the trolls existed first so they are the good guys.
wow lore nowadays is all THIS TITAN, COUGH THIS VOIDLORD, COUGH THIS OLDGOD, THIS HOLY NARU OP BEING, THIS NEW DEATH GOD. I mean how I wished wow stayed in a more orc v human conflict. BFA had such potential yet 0 horde v alliance story was told that felt it had weight. If the story was actually morally grey like this one, it be a lot better imo. Still excited for shadowlands!
Initially I was perusal this via Asmongold. Once Doc showed up Asmongold has to skip that part b/c of ToS nonsense. Then I thought “NOPE, going to stop this and watch the original article now” THENNN that got me thinking, maybe the best thing for YouTubers to combat Twitch streamers with would be showing clips of Doc or whatever else is banned on Twitch but not YouTube. Maybe it will work, maybe it won’t. It gives you exposure but also a reason for viewers to watch the original instead of through a streamer IMO. Best of luck!!!
One of those cases where natives dont get that once you lost the territory there is no point in bitching about it and you should just start to trade with your new neighbors and make them into allies. Especially those claims of “oh, my people lived here 500 years ago, hence this land belongs to us” is the stupidest thing. Conquering went back and forth leaving dozens of groups with equally void claims of the same land.
Maybe they had poke his eye with hot metal, or knife heated i brazier. Its usual medieval method. And maybe he cut of his arm with that knife from the brazier that was left on torture site. Easy. And trolls. Well, species die out from time to time. They are weak in total, so they loose living space. They may be physicaly strong, but, well thats not all. You know how many burgers can you make from one Tauren warrior by the way? Hmmm juicy double cheesy Tauren burger!
What about Warcraft 3 story? In orc’s prolog Thrall actually said that axe-throwing trolls berserkers once we’re in hord (Warcraft 1&2) and he is happy that they’re not anymore. When orcs set of to Kalimdor they found small tropical island populated with spearmen trolls led by Zul’Jin. When I watched this clip I was waiting for trolls to set of for peace-searching quest which would eventually led them to these islands, f.e. making them invaders for centaurs like once they were invaded. But in story told here they never left continent. Is it Blizzard’s plot-hole-making trash-writing, or its just that WOW needed something so they rewrote whole story so they can “justify” making dumb PvP decisions, like alliance between nature loving taurens and nature hating undead?
Ever since WoW Vanilla, I always enjoyed playing a member of the underdog races, hence the reason my Main was a Foresaken Warlock and my 3 (yes, only 3) Alts were; – Foresaken Shadow Priest – Troll Hunter, and – Troll Shaman (closest I could get to a Troll Witchdoctor, which would have been very cool!) Loved all 4 of them! 🙂
This is kind of how I feel about the _Syndicate_. I’m leaving out a lot of morally questionable decisions, but they used to belong to a kingdom (a small one, but a kingdom nonetheless), then they were forced to choose between being traitors or dying, then they were exiled/banished from their own kingdom (which was then attacked and occupied first by the Alliance, before then being attacked by Deathwing, AND THEN RANSACKED BY OGRES) Then they had to steal just to survive, while narrowly avoiding the Scourge and the Plague of Undeath that was completely ravaging Lordaeron (finally a little breather), but then losing their holdings in Hillsbrad, then being driven into Arathi to live off more scraps, then losing Northfold Manor and their portion Stromgarde to hopscotch between the Go’Shek and Dabyrie Farmsteads, then being driven back to Alterac…then being driven right back out of Alterac and Strahnbrad by the Horde…and now just hanging out in tents in the Uplands (and maybe moving back into Dandred’s fold). Point is, I really feel for the Syndicate. They’ve been killed, displaced, and lost their leaders as well as what little they’ve managed to gather over and over AND OVER again to players for years! They need a new leader to finally bring some semblance of order back to their organization. #CanonizeBevePerenolde
One genocide doesn’t justify the other. Most elves alive today aren’t the same who fucked the trolls in every way possible (they live long, but that humiliation conga lasted a lot of time even by elven standards). The kaldorei of today aren’t the ones who were BFFs with Queen “psycho tyrant” Aszhara. The Sin’Dorei live less (“only” 3000 years) so most of whom burned trolls alive are either dead or have children and grandchildren.
Are you sure that Anasterian Sunstrider is the son of Dathremar Sunstrider? I always thought that Anasterian was the great grandson of the founding king of Quel’Thalas. If you think that the last King of the High Elves is the son of the Founder of the High Elven Kingdom, then Kael’thas Sunstrider must have been like 500 years old, making his feelings for Jania a lot creepy seeing how he’s way older than both Jania and Arthas.
I sincerely hope that the very last raid in the very last expansion of wow ends with the Armani and other troll tribes (including Zandalari and Darkspear) just fuck over both the Horde and Alliance and re-establish the great troll empires, they deserve it by now! Will it happen? Most certainly not. Would it be possible/make sense from a playing perspective? Probably not. Would it be awesome? You bet your sweet ass it would! #RetributionForTheTrolls
can’t help but think that if there weren’t so many times where they raided and killed these trolls that their culture would have dominated all of azeroth. yaknow? Like any other culture left t its devices without sufficient opposition. war is not just a battle of bullets. it’s a battle of resources, of willpower, and of cultures. the amani lost almost every war they’ve ever fought. Getting back up when you get knocked down may seem virtuous, but the simple fact that they kept fighting doesn’t make their actions justified. Ya know, like the Japanese in world war 2. Maybe if they weren’t so adamant on winning wars they shouldn’t fight, they’d be an allied race by now. Hulking trolls, instead of these lanky bitches.
