Grip-Rite is a popular waterproofing tape that improves air quality and wall performance by providing excellent vapor barrier protection and preventing air infiltration. It is designed for use on clean, dry surfaces and has a minimum installation temperature of 20 degrees Fahrenheit. To apply the butyl adhesive flashing tape, follow these best practices:
- Lay the grip tape over the deck, ensuring it is completely covered from top to bottom and side to side.
- Place the grip down at one end of the deck to pad the grip down and work your way to the other, making sure there are no air bubbles. If there are air bubbles, apply pressure to make them stick down to the deck.
- Use the best practices and installation instructions to get the most out of the butyl adhesive flashing tape: only apply butyl tape to compatible surfaces and have a minimum installation temperature of 20 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Apply butyl sealant tape to clean and dry surfaces.
- Follow the application guide when using Grip-Rite® waterproofing tape for windows: apply to clean, dry surfaces, and when working with gypsum, concrete, OSB, or other materials.
- Slowly pull the release liner down or across the wall, allowing the roll to unwind, while lightly smoothing-out and removing air bubbles using butyl sealant tape.
- Use Grip-Rite water-resistive barriers to provide a simplified flashing solution for doors, windows, and other protrusions.
In summary, Grip-Rite is an essential product for construction needs, offering excellent vapor barrier protection and preventing air infiltration.

Just wrapped my son’s bat with the 1.8 and it is as easy as it looks. Some advice for those using the 1.8: Use an one dot overlap with a tape that thick. I did, and thank goodness. A two dot overlap would have felt like a sponge. Also, the 1.8 finishing tape is thick. Just the electrical tape will do unless you want the cosmetic effect.
