What Action Did David Take Upon Learning About Absalom’S Conspiracy?

In Psalm 41, David’s feelings when he heard the news of Absalom’s conspiracy are explored. David was afraid that Jerusalem might fall into Absalom’s power, and he sent for Ahithophel, who was David’s trusted friend. David’s heart longs after Absalom, but he does not act on those feelings until a wise woman of Tekoa convinces him.

When Absalom returned to Jerusalem, David was informed that Ahithophel was among the conspirators with Absalom. The conspiracy grew strong, and the people of Israel increased continually with Absalom. David asked his servants to flee, as none of them would escape from Absalom.

David took his household, 600 men, and families with him, fleeing from Jerusalem. Absalom asked King David if he could go to Hebron, and David told him to go. Absalom sent spies out into the land, and when David arrived at the summit where people used to worship God, Hushai the Arkite was there to meet him. David knew that if they tarried, they would not escape being killed by Absalom and might also put the people of God at risk.

Absalom worked a massive deception on the people of God, and David was God’s anointed king. He stole the hearts and loyalty of the people of God. Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counselor, while offering sacrifices. The conspiracy was strong, and David’s punishment involved family troubles, including Amnon raping Tamar and murdering Amnon in retaliation. Absalom then plotted to take David’s kingdom, with Absalom getting a chariot, horses, and fifty men to signal his power.

  • This sheds light on the atrocities committed against women in the hands of men who are meant to be their protectors. Often they’re trivialized with fathers failing to deal decisively with such indiscipline in their own homes😢😢 Nothing much on why Absalom was angry at his brother Amnon. Tamar’s story, even the bible, doesn’t seem to pay much attention to it, not even her pain. The community, doesn’t show their fury against Amnon for violating his sister, instead, she is judged and condemned for a crime she didn’t commit. I pray for all women in Tamar’s position

  • If David would have taken care of this right from the start like a good father, it would not have gone this far. And if David would have been paying attention, he should have noticed what Amnon was up to. I despise Amnon. Even though he didn’t do it in the right way, I like Absalom because he defended his sister.

  • King David had the responsibility to punish Amon for this violation. The culprit being his son does not exempt him from punishment. This same situation happened to the prophet Eli when he failed to discipline his sons from disrespecting God, all three died. Eli’s sons died in battle and he broke his neck, making Samuel his replacement. Had David had shown his daughter respect and justice, a lot of his problems could have been avoided.

  • I love Davis story. It tells us more about sin, repentance, and consequence. Sin can be forgiven, but consequence are not necessarily removed. Especially when the sin was too large like Urial, God himself though forgives David but also will not spare him from that consequences. That answers not yet believers misassumption on just ask for forgiveness it is easy.

  • Well, King David did have Uriah killed to have his wife, Beersheba. His price was the lost of his son as a baby. Then one of his son does the same thing, taking what was not his and paid with his life. Can’t blame Absalom for what he did. David may have favor with God but he is still a sinner. Tamar was the biggest loser out of all of this. Poor girl.

  • The Bible does not sugar coat anything. It shows humanity in its entire frailty, proneness to all kinds of sin and evil – yet God chose to become human, enter our realm of existence and to deliver us from these chains by which evil and darkness had us bound for millennia. We cannot grasp the lengths Jesus went to break this curse we brought upon ourselves and give us a future and a hope. He is worthy of all praise forever, hallelujah! Every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord!👑🙏

  • I find it interesting that Amnon could have avoided all of this trouble, if he only talked to David about his urges instead of talking to Jonadab. He may have gotten Tamar as a wife because she even said, “Where could I go in my shame? And you would be called one of the greatest fools in Israel. Please, just speak to the king about it, and he will let you marry me.” (2 Samuel 13:13) But unlikely since incest was against the Law. Either way, David probably would have a better idea than his son’s and avoid all of the trouble.

  • You have to feel sorry for Tamar to be scared for life and no punishment…It does not pay to be greedy for power it will back fire and you..When the Lord gives you a position he expects you to do his work God rules over us and sometimes we forget that but God will let us know when we are messing up…In the end what God gives you He will take it from you…Our God is a powerful God and He sure does not play with us…Long Live Our God.🌍👍🌍💯🌍🍀🌍🙏🌍💃🌍😘🌍

  • Even though Amnons actions were condemned by the culture, we can still see the underlying acceptance due to the unvalued perceptions of women of that era. It was believed that Tamar was a damaged woman after her assault; unfit for marriage and a normal life. Her brothers actions would haunt her forever and on top of that she was looked at differently for something she had no means to escape. This is a very good example of a generational curse. David’s actions with Urías wife (sleeping with her, impregnating her and killing her husband in the line of fire to cover their sin) would prove to be an example to all of us that sin has consequences that can affect a whole family. And even when God forgives a person’s past actions, restores them and even uses them in great ways, their actions opened a door that should have remained closed. The good news is that true forgiveness is available. And Gods love will give us strength and new opportunities to heal and even repair circumstances in some cases. If you have been devastated by a terrible mistake I pray the Lord hugs you today and cleanses your weary heart. There is hope and Gods love covers a multitude of sins. The Blood of Jesus has power and his presence with you can change the entire outcome of your life. God bless you.

  • David’s weak point was women, same as his son Solomon. I always wondered why God allowed kings to have many wives and concubines? The many children born from different women did not have any restrain. There must have been a lot of jealousy and envy and competition and in the case of unfortunate Tamar, unhealthy desires. How sad. David’s lack of restraint cost him everything he had built for God and with God.

  • Wonderful narration thanks a lesson to be learn that life is a cycle only. You can choose what kind of sin but you can not stop the kind of consequenses that may come, thats why we dont take advantages to our human kind rather choose be good and to be humble in the eyes of our Creator the God Almighty.😊

  • Faithful Redeemer, When doubts assail and questions arise, Strengthen my faith and deepen my trust in you. Help me to hold fast to the promises of your Word, And to seek understanding through prayer and reflection. Renew my confidence in your unfailing love, O Lord, And grant me the assurance that you are always with me. Amen.

  • The Bible did not elaborate much on Tamar’s pain indeed. But it did indirectly highlight God’s disdain for what was done to her with Amnon paying the ultimate price, and never having the opportunity to leave his seed upon the earth. Also, it reflects back to the dominoe effect of sin … David’s sin to be exact. Fathers aka men in our society are shunning their roles now more than ever. No wonder society is falling away at this pace.

  • Well, it just goes to show you that mankind, by nature / heart, is fallen and we so desperately need JESUS (GOD manifest in flesh ). We are capable of the most hideous acts. The Bible “exposes” ALL OF US and that is why it can state that there is NOT ONE of us righteous…no, not one. We all are sinners by birth, choice and practice. DEAR WONDERFUL SAVIOUR, thank YOU for YOUR GREAT SACRIFICE. YOU came at the right time and YOU alone are our ONLY HOPE!!! 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭. Wash me, cleanse me, LORD, is all we can ever pray for- along with prayers of thanksgiving. Oh YOUR grace and mercy. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾😇

  • David had several lovers and Bathsheba was the one he perved on while she was bathing on the rooftop of her own ” apartment”. He was perving on her from his rooftop. And ofc he lusted for her, sent his servant over there to bring her to him. Later he had her husband Uriah sent to the frontlines to die. David had the man killed. Yet the bible says “David was a man after Gods own heart” Their 1st child died at birth and David acknowledged the fact that it was punishment for the murder of Uriah. Soloman was their 2nd child. And years later David’s young son Amnon rapes his own sister Tamar, and Absolom the beautiful older son finds out and he kills ammon. Lol! I think that all of David’s “sins”are coming home to roost. David’s heart always belonged to God. He knew his sins, and repented and cried for forgiveness all the time.

  • The harsh reality to when king David and Bathsheba broke all his family and kingdom and surrounding towns, from his leadership and governing, no one respected or accepted his authority from then on. That is why King David stood lament and dormant in a since. Him (and Bathsheba) have already been showing no reliance from not only his current ruled lands, but his family as well. It does state in the Bible that King David lost control over his kingdom and family. They said ‘You did this, that means we can do that’ type of activities. It all went into chaotic non monitored governing. When the rape of Tamar happened, King David still should have stepped up. They said he had no right to correct them. 1. either step up. 2. step down so the whole existence can get back on track and thrive a bit better one step at a time by a learning capable individual. Yet, too bad the innocent still get finger pointed at and humiliated by the part of human race that accepts rape behavior. (or else there would be more justice for those whom warrant such)

  • This happened because of king David’s sins, his children paid the price as was pronounced by the prophet Nathan. I felt for Tamar, the injustice & suffering of the poor princess & her brother Absalom. He loved his sister & wanted justice for her better than their father who did nothing. David had so many children he he didn’t have time to know them all or be a proper father to them.

  • Was it because David sinned against the Lord by taking the wife of Uriah the Hitite and intentionaly sending him to his doom in fighting the fiercest warriors in the frontline. And that the prophet Nathan told king David that the sword shall never leave his house which created conflicts among his families.

  • It doesn’t say Absoloms hair got caught. It says his head. I’ve often thought about this because so many people say his hair, but that doesn’t make sense. He could have used his sword or knife to simply cut himself free. However, imagine riding into a branch where it splits to form two branches, but tight enough to catch your head perfectly. With enough momentum, you could potentially do that, as I have gotten my hand momentarily caught just climbing trees. How painful that would be on your head.

  • Well…given what David did with the wife of Uriah the Hittite… who was he to cast the first stone…?? (from Samuel….mind you, the story isn’t in Chronicles.) and for that matter Abigail’s first husband and the protection racket…. (normal enough among kings and kingdoms) And was Solomon better taking a heathen wife and building temples for her?? Absolute power corrupts. Uncontrolled lust destroys the children of God.

  • so often the kings kids do this.. why do you think the Chinese would kill or at least banish their male siblings as soon as they came to power and the struggles that went on while he was crown prince…and the various mothers of the various sons would work to destroy the other sibs. This is the joy of royalty.

  • My God slanders. Why is it only Muslims would defends this Prophets and the so called believers in the Bible did not? The book itself is riddled with inconsistencies and therefore should not be taken seriously as a source of religion and history. I hope Prophet Isa Ibn Maryam will come soon, to rectify the mistakes made with that book.

  • The reason why David family disaster startrd from the consequences of David making adultery to bathsebaa and he order his soldier to leave Uriah in the center of battle field and to be killed by the enemies this act angers god he punish David’s for his action by he’s family will end in painful trajedy to teach David lesson for his sin

  • I cannot say I enjoyed the article – but out of respect for the effort I gave it a “like.” I have read David’s story many times. In fact, I launched into a journey from Genesis through Revelation which I intend to complete despite several failed attempts. I am in the Book of 1st Samuel now, with Saul having won a major battle and being recognized as king – the people having rejected God as their King. Despite being a man after God’s own heart, David’s story is a tragic one – and so is Solomon’s. I’ve pondered over the years how we mere mortals can escape when two men – two great men – like David and Solomon – men who God spoke to with no ambiguity – how they could err so horribly. I gave in to my passions today – and had to repent. I do not use the excuse, “I’m just human”: I sin – and have to answer to the he One who redeemed me. I see in the story of David’s family that there are consequences to be suffered for the choices we make – and we don’t get a pass for negligence in any area of our lives. If we have committed ourselves to the LORD – then His Standard is the standard we are bound to live up to. No excuses.

  • Wow! Now I clearly understand what exactly happened. I want more articles like this. I just realized now that king David had 2 sons with Bathsheba the one died and the other King Solomon. And I also realized almost all the downfall of man of God in the Bible are women even the sons of God. Adam and Eve. Genesis 6, the union of the fallen angels and daughters of men. King Solomon and his many wives that led him to worship an idol in his old age. To King David Batsheba, murder and adultery.

  • 3:06 “Absalom, David’s second son…” Correction: Absalom is the third son of David. The second son of David was named either Chileab or Daniel, his mother being Abigail, formerly the widow of Nabal. Aside from a few mentions on the list of David’s sons, no further information of him is revealed, leading to speculation that he may have predeceased his father at an early age.

  • Absalom is the allegory of those who believe that they can attain to glory or heaven through violence. Their attitude grieves God. Adonijah represents Christians, who thinks that God is so merciful that he accepts everything. Like Adonijah,Christians believe that they have already attained the claim to heaven. But they will be shooked and surprised. Bathsheba is the pagan who believes in God, but doesn’t know how to worship or please God. Thus, Solomon who hails from a pagan woman, inherited the throne of King David, and not the sons of lsraelite women. Jesus Christ told those who claim to be the descendants of Abraham that they are wrong in their interpretations of the Word of God !

  • I hate these comments people attacking King David, no empathy for a parent who didnt want to lose any of his children. Would you kill or see killed your own child? He wasnt perfect, neither are you or any of us. Dont miss the point of the story of his life which is Gods love and mercy for those that love Him despite their not doing everything perfectly all the time.

  • 2 Samuel 12:9-12 Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the Lord, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon. 10. Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife. 11. Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee OUT OF THINE OWN HOUSE, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun. 12. For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.

  • Please leave a comment after reading this.Thank you. I didn’t elevate myself to God hood. My father who is the God you worship on this planet had to try and kill me 7 times before he declared me a God in front of a host of Angels after that the Angels kept bowing to me. I must be a God that is deficient I don’t have all the bells and whistles like my half brother Yeshua has. After my father tried to take me apart I got to meet the Monad there he explained everything to me I was made to understand everything. He explained that we God’s must stick together and that I was being groomed to be a God of some minor importance what ever that means I don’t know. Earth has only 100 years left from 4-27-2018. After that it’s all over. To possess a target body you need three demons one to pull-out the soul and hold it then two to go into the target body and three to pull out the second demon when they are done having fun with it. The reason the third demon is needed is to pull out the second because the body won’t let go of a soul because a soul is life and without that soul the body will die in minutes. The body can only house one soul at a time. If this was a real possession the sign of possession is the body going limp like death before and after possession. Theirs no soul in it when the first demon pulls the target soul out and the body goes limp, it happens again when then the second Demon is cast out during an exorcism. The body will start to die without a soul in it and with an exorcism the first Demon that is the one holding the target soul must let go of the target soul it is clearly up to the target soul to go back into it’s body or not.

  • These stories similar with Mahabharat epic stories. Story of old David son’s rivalry and rape of Tamar and Revenge of absolom with killing all amnon brothers, these events are similar with Mahabharata Old king Dhritarashtra and Rape of draupadi and revenge of bheem by killing all Duryodhana and Kaurava cousin brothers. Young David story similar with Krishna 8th son’s of their mother’s. Krishna mother name is Devaki and David mother name is not mentioned in Bible. Krishna is cowherd and David is Shephard. David kills Palestinian Giant king Golith Krishna kills Giant king kamsa

  • Idk if you guys have ever read The real version of stories being told in bible… Try seeking answers in Quran because bible is unfortunately written by human beings from their recollection of events and history, that sadly was overshadowed with loss of truth and politics. You’ll be surprised how they mixed the truth with pure filth to malign Christianity.
