The Blue Hose is the athletic mascot of Presbyterian College, a private liberal arts college in South Carolina. The name derives from the blue socks worn by the football team in the early 1900s and later became associated with Scottish warriors. The Rebels will play their non-conference lineup against the Presbyterian Blue Hose from Clinton, South Carolina. The school colors are garnet and blue, and the mascot is Scotty the Scotsman, a medieval Scottish warrior. The team name comes from the socks worn by the football team in the early days of the twentieth century.
The Blue Hose is fifth among the top 25 Chester Cheetah’s Official Top-25 Cheesiest College Mascots. The school spirit at PC includes songs, yells, cheerleaders, the Scotsman mascot, and other aspects of school spirit. Before each game, the Blue Hose mascot, a Scottish Highlander in full kilt attire, leads the team to the stadium. Although the name originally referred to the socks worn by the football team in the early 1900s, the name was officially shortened to Blue Hose in the 1950s. Today, the name signifies fierce Scottish warriors, further adding to the college’s strong puritan leanings.
