In 2015, Thor left Earth to discover the Infinity Stones, but his Megingjörð belt was kept by Tony Stark at the Avengers Tower for safekeeping. After the Tower’s sale, it was one of the items being loaded onto a cargo plane for transport to the Avengers Compound. The belt, officially known as Megingjörð or the power belt, is one of Thor’s three main possessions, along with his hammer Mjolnir.
In Norse mythology, Megingjörð refers to Thor’s enchanted Belt of Strength, which doubles his already legendary strength, power, and durability when worn. The belt, along with his hammer and iron, is one of the god’s three main possessions. In comics, Thor owns Megingjörð, a magic belt of strength that doubles his strength when worn. In Viking Myths, Thor has Megingjörð in his adventures.
The line “njótr njarðgjarðar” literally means “he who benefits from the mighty belt”, referring to Thor’s magical belt/girdle of strength/power. In 1963, Marvel Comics introduced its version of Megingjord in Journey into Mystery, Issue 91. This item was a mystical belt held in storage by Thor.
Thor’s magic belt reference in Spider-Man: Homecoming can finally be paid off when the former Asgardian king returns in Thor: Love and Thunder. The belt is an Easter egg of Megingjörð, symbolizing power and might for both Thor and the broader warrior ethos of the Viking Age.

With his hammer, gauntlets and belt, it seems to me you could make a very plausible argument that Thor is the Nordic peoples telling themselves that their advantages over other groups and nature itself comes from their skill in metal working, especially given Thor’s prominence whithin the pantheon during the late stages of Paganism
The Norse mythos are so interested due to just how unsure of so many things we are. Such as the belt or gauntlets even truly being needed to truly hold the hammer. Even in the Eddas they’re is so much conflicting info about if even Thor really needed any magical item to use it. Nonetheless amazing article!
Finally someone that realises that Thor cannot weild the hammer without the gauntlets, something that is too often missed out. Other things that Marvel messes up are the “only those that are worthy can hold the hammer,” and the fact that it returns to Thor when it has been laid down, the passages say that it returns when it has been thrown and we have stories that prove that. I am enjoying your articles and I think the costumes and make up that you do are awesome. The Hel one reminded me of Baron Samedi and I thought it was quite amusing.
Odins spear also had the ability to never miss its target, which was helpful for odin because he only had one eye. And Mjollnir had another, maybe two other abilites. The hammer could grow and shrink its size, so much so that Thor could hide it in his shirt. And the hammer would instantly kill anything it was used againts. But this could also be explained by Thors ridicoulous strength. His strongest hits with the hammer left literal valleys where there were mountains before.
To everyone commenting that the dwarfs could have chopped his head off in the middle: -They were going to need his brain intact because they were planning to use it to craft something (because of all the weird stuff that goes on up there they thought it would be interesting) -They actually did try to stab his face after he said that, but Loki has planned ahead and had a plan B in case the neck-thing didn’t work. He had made sure in advance that he had protection from all knife blades, and after revealing that, the dwarves just gave up and sewed his mouth shut instead because they were sick of his bs.
“Hi, this is Loki and welcome to jackass. I’m going to prank on my bro Thor, and his wife Sif. I’m going to cut off all Sifs hair while they are sleeping, and when they wake up they will freak out. Becuase her hair is golden like a summer wheat, im calling this early harvest, it’s gonna be hilarious.” About 8 hours later “Sooo they did freak out, but not in a funny way. They are not calming down, and i have to fix this before Thor kills me, and some dwarves takes my head. I swear i havent been this scared and screwed since that time with the stone mason, and his horse.”
I read a completely different account of events in a folk tale as a child. Where Thor was descended as a thumb sized dwarf in the land of giants with his companions, than somehow managed to shatter mountain with his hammer. In any case, i cannot help but admire the creativity of the myth tellers. No doubt a very creative person came up with these tales. A ship folded into a cloth good lord to think that thousands of years ago is amazing.
