What If Kirby Was The Mascot Of Nintendo?

With April Fool’s Day approaching, Nintendo could potentially use this momentum to celebrate its most famous pink ball, Kirby. Despite the efforts behind the KirbyNintendoMascot hashtag, it is unlikely that Mario will ever be replaced by Kirby as Nintendo’s official mascot. Possible candidates for the role include Luigi, Samus, Link, Yoshi, Kirby, Fox, and Peach, if Nintendo decides to write off Mario permanently.

Kirby is one of the most popular characters in video games and one of Nintendo’s most fluffy protagonists. It is believed that Super Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto originally wanted Kirby to be yellow, but Sakurai planned for the character to be pink. When Kirby’s Dream Land was released in North America, Kirby quickly rocketed to a Hello Kitty-like iconic status within the realm of video games.

Despite the zealous effort behind the KirbyNintendoMascot hashtag, it is unlikely that Mario will ever be replaced by Kirby as Nintendo’s official mascot. Technically, Kirby is the mascot character for Hal Labs, which primarily makes games for Nintendo but is distinct enough from Nintendo to have its own IP. Nintendo’s mascots are the original 12’s: Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, Link, Kirby, Samus, Fox, Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Ness, and Captain Falcon. Kirby was respected more as a franchise, but his games are consistently good and plenty.

In conclusion, it is unlikely that Mario will ever be replaced by Kirby as Nintendo’s official mascot, despite the efforts behind the KirbyNintendoMascot hashtag.

Why did Nintendo name Kirby Kirby?

John Joseph Kirby Jr. was an American attorney who was most notable for his successful defense of Nintendo against Universal Studios over the copyrightability of the character Donkey Kong in 1984. Born in Falls Church, Virginia, Kirby was a lawyer with over 40 years of experience and a homemaker. He was the father of two brothers and two sisters. Kirby graduated from Fordham University in 1961, serving as Student Body President and a Rhodes scholar.

He earned a Bachelors and Masters degree from Merton College at Oxford University and was a Fordham trustee and trustee fellow. He later earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1966. Kirby was a respected figure in the gaming industry and was a key figure in the case against Universal Studios.

What animal is Kirby from Nintendo?

Kirby’s species, known as Kirbys, are small, round creatures with arms and feet, and blush on their faces. Only known members include Kirby himself, Shadow Kirby, Keeby, and other clones of Kirby. Meta Knight, Galacta Knight, and Morpho Knight may also be Kirbys, but evidence has not been definitive. There is no official name for Kirby’s species, so they are referred to as such. A Kirby Super Star Ultra commercial calls Kirby a “Pink Puff”, possibly due to his love of food.

In official materials, Kirby is sometimes referred to as a “puff” or “puffball”, but these do not necessarily mean the species name. All depicted Kirbys are offshoots, clones, or variants of the original Kirby.

Why is Kirby so pink?

Super Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto initially wanted Kirby to be yellow, but designer Sakurai planned for a pink color. When Kirby’s Dream Land was released in North America and Europe, his color was not confirmed to Nintendo’s West colleagues. They chose white, which he appeared as on the original title’s box art and game cartridge. By the next game, Kirby had his famous coloring, and in Kirby’s Adventure, he was seen as pink. Sakurai and his team also added a “copy” function for other characters’ abilities.

Who is Mario’s girlfriend?

Princess Peach, the protagonist of Mario’s first video game, Donkey Kong, was introduced as a damsel in distress in 1981. Nintendo’s creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, initially wanted to use characters from the Popeye cartoon as main characters but failed to obtain the license. Instead, he transformed them into Jumpman (Mario), Donkey Kong, and Pauline. Pauline’s role was established as the female character who is rescued by Mario and appears as the damsel in distress in subsequent games.

With the arrival of the Nintendo Entertainment System and Super Mario Bros., Pauline was replaced by Princess Peach. Nintendo did not consider making a character playable by girls, as Donkey Kong was designed for arcades. Princess Peach’s characteristics were introduced in the 1996 role-playing game Super Mario RPG, including her use of a parasol as a weapon and a sleep spell ability that inspired her Final Smash in the Super Smash Bros. series.

After Waluigi’s debut in Mario Tennis, an evil version of Peach named “Walupeach” was pitched, but was rejected by Miyamoto. The design was also pitched for the 2004 video game Mario Power Tennis but was rejected by Nintendo.

Miyamoto said that Nintendo wanted to develop Peach into a more powerful princess in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, as her role evolved from a princess to one who fights for Toad. After the film’s release in 2023, Peach’s appearance was updated to make her more angry and determined.

What is Luigi's last name?

What is Luigi’s last name?

Daisy is rumored to be Luigi’s romantic interest, as seen in Mario Kart Wii and Super Smash Bros. Melee. Luigi was not initially given a surname, but in 2015, Nintendo confirmed that Mario’s full name was Mario Mario. He first appeared in the 1983 arcade game Mario Bros. as the character controlled by the second player, and later appeared in Super Mario Bros. for the NES, Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, and Super Mario World.

Luigi has been associated with the more difficult second acts of multiple Super Mario games, such as The Lost Levels, Super Mario Galaxy 2, New Super Luigi U, and the new game plus in Super Mario 3D Land. These games offer more challenging elaborations on their predecessors and allow players to use Luigi as the main character, with reduced friction and higher jumping. Luigi became playable in the Nintendo DS game New Super Mario Bros. as a hidden character, and as a hidden character in the Wii game Super Mario Galaxy. In its sequel, Super Mario Galaxy 2, the player can switch out for Luigi throughout the game.

Luigi also appears as a playable character in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, where four players can play cooperatively as Mario, Luigi, and two Toads. He also appears in Super Mario 3D Land, New Super Mario Bros. 2, and New Super Mario Bros. U, with a DLC mode where he is the main character called New Super Luigi U. The DLC is available as a standalone retail version. Luigi also appeared in Super Mario 3D World along with his brother, Peach, Rosalina, and Toad.

Is Kirby a Nintendo character?

Kirby is the titular character and protagonist of the Kirby series of video games developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo. He first appeared in Kirby’s Dream Land, a platform game for the Game Boy. Since then, Kirby has appeared in over 50 games, ranging from action platformers to puzzle, racing, and pinball. He has been featured in every installment of the Super Smash Bros. series (1999–present) and has starred in his own anime and manga series.

Kirby’s signature skill is his ability to inhale objects or creatures and spit them out as projectiles, as well as the ability to suck in air to float over obstacles. His Copy Ability grants him the power to adopt the abilities of the creatures he inhales, while also wearing various costumes or transforming his shape.

Kirby uses these abilities to rescue various lands, such as his homeworld Planet Popstar, from evil forces and antagonists. He often crosses paths with his rivals, King Dedede and Meta Knight. In most of his appearances, Kirby is depicted as a cheerful, innocent, and food-loving character.

Kirby has become one of the most iconic and lovable video game characters, gaining high popularity in Japan and being praised for his versatility due to his appearance in a large catalogue of games across various video game genres.

Is there a female Kirby?

In Japanese media, Kirby is often described using gender-neutral pronouns and terminology, with English localizations using masculine pronouns. However, their gender is often left vague, making it seem as if Kirby does not have a gender or if they do, it is a mystery. In a piece of art posted to the official Kirby Twitter account during Valentine’s Day, Kirby is shown with female friends making cookies, a holiday where it is common for women to give gifts to men.

In another piece, Kirby is shown with male friends making cookies on White Day, a Japanese holiday where people give reciprocal gifts to those who received gifts on Valentine’s Day. Kirby’s identity as non-binary is further evidenced in art posted during Hinamatsuri, a Japanese holiday also known as “Girl’s Day”.

Is Kirby 200 years old?

Kirby, the popular video game character, is actually a millennium old, not a young child as depicted in the popular media. In the anime, he is 200+ years old, which is not canon to the actual games. This makes Kirby far older than other popular video game characters like Mario, Sonic, Link, Pac Man, Pikachu, and Mega Man. Other characters in the franchise who lived before and after the events of the Amazing Mirror + Triple Deluxe, such as Marx, King Dee Dee, Meta Knight, Bandana Waddle Dee, and possibly Magolor, would be 1, 000+ years old.

The VS Battles Wiki has already explained this fully, but some points need to be connected to reach the conclusion that 1, 000+ years happened between Kirby and the Amazing Mirror and Kirby: Triple Deluxe.

  • “Fang the Sniper, also called Nack the Weasel, is a fictional character in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. He is an anthropomorphic jerboa-wolf and treasure hunter living in the Special Stage who tries to get his hands on the Chaos Emeralds for monetary purposes. He is a slick villain, but his aspirations are small-time. Fang uses a Popgun as his primary weapon and the Marvelous Queen “aerobike” as his mode of transportation.”

  • Yeah, Nintendo keeps their franchises simple. Nothing for good ol’ Mario but simple 2D platformers, 3D platformers, sports spin-offs, RPGs, Paper RPGs, Olympic Crossovers, kart racing, Mario Maker, and all those dang Mario Parties! And of course, its small cast of Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser, Bowser Jr, Kamek, Daisy, Waluigi, the Koopalings, Fawful, Starlow, Toad, Toadsworth, Toadette, Captain Toad, King Boo, E. Gadd, Pauline, Rosalina, and of course we can’t forget that Wario, DK, and Yoshi all have their own spin-off series full of other characters, too! Not to mention parallel worlds, time travel, and potential tie-ins to other beloved franchises. WHO COULDN’T FOLLOW ALL THAT?!

  • I can’t believe you didn’t bring up. -Mario overshadowing 90% of Nintendo IPs. -Mario levels now just using the same Grass, dessert, icy themes -Constant focus on gimmicks -DMCA -YouTube Copyright -A fanbase that will pretend it’s ok when Nintendo does any of these things and flip out when someone else does, even if they handle it better than Nintendo. -system with little to no memory (note Nintendo fans, I like Nintendo. And I was making a joke)

  • Yeah, there are waaaaay too many reoccurring characters in Sonic games! They really should take a hint from Mario! Mario only has Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Peach, Daisy, Rosalina, Wario, Donkey Kong, Waluigi, Pauline, Toad, Toadette, Toadsworth, Diddy Kong, Cranky Kong, Wrinkly Kong, Funky Kong, Dixie Kong, Tiny Kong, Candy Kong, King K. Rool, Bowser, Mini Bowser, Bowser Jr, Ludwig, Lemmy, Iggy, Wendy, Roy, Larry, Morton, Boom Boom, Pom Pom, Kamek, Kammy, Birdo, King Boo, King Bob-Omb, Petey Piranha, Wiggler, Professor E. Gadd, Nabbit, Honey Queen, Fawful, Popple, Ashley, Starlow, Merlon and Baby Luma. The we have the reoccurring Baby forms of Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Rosalina, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Wario and Yoshi, all of which are totally seperate characters and the Paper versions of Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Bowser, Bowser Jr, Ludwig, Lemmy, Iggy, Wendy, Roy, Larry, Morton, Kamek and Petey Piranha which are once again totally not the same characters except 2D. Some of the transformations seem to have gained a mind of their own as well, so Metal Mario, Dry Bowser and Pink Gold Peach apparently are their own characters too. Not to mention the story-relevant one-offs like Wart, Princess Shokora, Terrormisu, Queen Merelda, Perry, the Shadow Queen, Sir Grodus, Lord Crump, Doopliss, the Shadow Sirens Beldam, Vivian and Marilyn, Count Bleck, Nastasia, Mimi, O’Chunks, Dimentio, Mr L(his identity remains a mystery), F.L.U.D.D., Lubba, Lanky Kong, Dread Kong, Karate Kong, Ninja Kong, Sumo Kong, Tiki Tong, Lord Frederik, Prince Peasley, Cackletta, Younger Princess Shroob, Elder Princess Shroob, the Dark Star, Midbus, Antasma, Dreambert, Zeekeeper, Smithy, Geno, Mallow, Wingo, Wanda, Twink, Kersti, Huey as well as Goombario, Kooper, Bombette, Parakarry, Lady Bow, Watt, Sushie and Lakilester; Goombella, Koops, Flurrie, Color Baby Yoshi, Admiral Bobbery and Miss Mowz; Tippi, Tiptron, Thoreau, Boomer, Slim, Thudley, Carrie, Fleep, Cudge, Dottie, Barry, Dashell and Piccolo.

  • Funny as hell, but people really need to stop hating on Sonics friends. They were fine up until 06. And Sonic has always been “edgy”. People dont know the meaning of that word. It means to go outside of your initial nature. Sonic has been that way since its beginning. Hes the dark and cool to Marios happy go lucky charm

  • It would also have some consequences like, the sonic soundtrack that we know, not able to create the awesome fangames that are being developed, maybe we wouldnt have our sonic movies, the boom animated 3d series, the sonic X anime, tho i think that they should remove the chris family from it and just stick with sonic and his friends making their own houses or something

  • Some more ideas: If Sony owned Sonic If Microsoft owned Sonic If Atari owned Sonic If Mattel owned Sonic If Apple owned Sonic If Coleco owned Sonic If Sonic was a PC series If Google owned Sonic If Philips owned Sonic If Oculus owned Sonic If Samsung owned Sonic If EA owned Sonic If Bungie owned Sonic If SNK owned Sonic If Magnavox owned Sonic Yeah, I threw a lot in there.

  • Yeah, Sonic games have too many characters. The Mario franchise has the perfect amount of characters like: Mario Luigi Toad Bowser Bowser Jr Koopa Boo Waluigi Wario Peach Yoshi Birdo DK Diddy Kong Pauline Daisy Rosalina Toadette Toadsworth Baby Luma Pr Gadd Boom Boom Fawful Kamek Kammy Koopa Koopalings Petey Piranha Pom Pom Tatanga Wart

  • The Super Mario cast is actually quit huge at this point. We have Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Rosalina, Bowser, Bowser Jr., the 7 Koopalings, Toad, Toadette, Toadsworth, Yoshi, Birdo, Wario, Waluigi, Kamek, DK, Diddy Kong, King Boo, Petey Piranha, Nabbit, Boom-Boom and Pom Pom. The problem with Sonic is not the fact that they have to many characters, the problem is they have to many of the same type of character. Most of Sonic friends are action heroes like him.

  • I wouldn’t say “ALL” the Paper Sonic games are beloved. Of course, “Paper Sonic: Sticker Star” is a bad/mediocre Paper Sonic game for most people and “Paper Sonic: Color Splash” is better than expected, but it doesn’t compare to the other Paper Sonic games. I just wish Nintendo would stick to the original Paper Sonic formula cause that worked for the early Paper Sonic games. For me, I would like a sequel to “Paper Sonic: The Thousand Year Door” called “Paper Tails” which focuses on Tail’s adventures in the Waffle Kingdom while Sonic is collecting the Crystal Stars in TTYD.

  • Like Samus kinda brings to light at the end, Sonic’s dream is essentially what he would be if he had the same role as Mario. Nintendo may be good game designers most of the time, and every single criticism of Sega in this article is totally accurate, but when Nintendo wants a franchise dead, that franchise is dead. And they’re not above shoving weird trends or gimmicks into their games as well. If Nintendo were to own Sonic, maybe it’d be a Mario level priority for them. Or maybe after a couple attempts, maybe a poorly received game or two, they’d give up and Sonic would disappear into the ether with F-Zero, and probably Metroid and Star Fox the way things are going for those two at the moment. Sega are awful. They’ve been mismanaging this property for almost as long as it’s been around. But I also don’t want to see Sonic disappear off the face of the earth either. And it’s clear that under Sega, no matter how bad the release, they’re still gonna keep trying with Sonic. Because if this series could actually be killed by it’s own stupidity, it would’ve done it ten times over by now. And that’s a fan saying that.

  • Hmmm… can someone remind me please? Is Sonic Lost world a beloved sonic game or do people kinda dislike? Just wanna check how much truth could be in there… also, after so many years we still did NOT get a proper Mario and Sonic crossover game. Like c’mon, Mario jumps, Sonic runs = Jump and Run, that’s like a no brainer! They could make levels where every character has his own path based on their abilities. Also Eggman controlling a giant Robo Bowser

  • I liked the addition of various characters up UNTIL they gave Shadow guns for no good reason. That was when Sega officially lost track of what they were doing. But then again, I’m one of the members of this polarized fan base who enjoyed Sonic games up until after Sonic Adventure 2 rather than up until after Sonic & Knuckles. So take my opinion as you will.

  • If Sonic was owned by Nintendo the games will be Super Sonic Bros Super Sonic Bros 2 Super Sonic Bros 3 Super Sonic World Super Sonic Kart Sonic Kart 64 Super Sonic 64 Sonic Party Sonic Kart DS Super Sonic Sunshine Super Sonic Galaxy 1 and 2 New Super Sonic Bros New Super Sonic Bros Wii Super Sonic 3D Land Super Sonic 3D World Sonic Kart Wii Sonic Kart 7 Sonic Kart Double Dash Sonic Kart 8

  • Haha yeah, game franchises should never have new characters, they should just keep using the same ones out of respect of their iconic nature(?)! Mario saving peach from bowser is always so fun and fresh, and a villain only gets more intimidating and interesting the more times he’s beaten! Before anyone compares how eggman has lost a ridiculous amount of times too, at least Sega knows to make him the final boss rarely. Eggman works as a final boss sometimes because it’s rare these days, so it means something. Nintendo thinks they can make someone like that the final boss in every mainline mario game and it would never get stale. Because of this I haven’t bought a mario game since Mario Galaxy 2, which was a depressing experience because of the insulting idea that they can just keep feeding us this bowser garbage over and over again. As buggy as the sonic games are, the creators get more respect from me since they at least try new ideas. Mario games are basically just for kids, people new to mario, or people with Alzheimers. To anyone still enjoying mario games if you’ve been playing them since the 80’s or even 90’s… you really might need to get your memory checked.

  • I don’t hate Mario, I just like Sonic about three times more, the franchise has better soundtrack, more developed characters, stories I could actually give a crap about and I just have more fun playing them than I do with mario, sonic adventure two is one of my favorite games ever (despite it “not aging well”, or something like that) and I even like shadow the hedgehog, this is just my personal preference, so please keep the angry comments to a minimum

  • Funny how this parody end up being a product of its time Sonia Mania came out, and people loved it, Sonic Frontiers was also pretty neat, not to mention Sonic Superstars, yes, even featuring some of the “lame friends” . Heck, we got the Sonic X Shadow generations droping soon There is also the IDW comics. The current Shadow Manga. And lets not forget Sonic Movies, where people are eager to see the “Lame overly edgy rival” voiced by none other than Keanu reeves. Sonic would be thrilled to see he has become popular and loved again, while not as big as Mario, i say the blue brat is going okay nowdays

  • Shantae – Realizes she’s a half-genie and instead grants a wish to turn Risky Boots into a frog. Shovel Knight – Takes an easier path and just digs toward the Enchantress’s castle instead of fighting the Order of No Quarter. Freedom Planet – Rather then going on an adventure, they just repair Torque’s spaceship and use it to stop Brevon from destroying the planet. Bubble Bobble – Bub and Bob instead just float to the final level via air bubbles. Street Fighter – Ryu instead calls the cops to arrest M. Bison and his gang rather then fight in the tournament. Fix It Felix Jr. – Felix tells to people to build they’re building somewhere else so they won’t upset Ralph.

  • If article game Characters couldn’t break the rules Sans: Goes down easily since he can no longer dodge attacks. Mysterious Figure/Young Xehanort (Kingdom Hearts) Does normal damage with sword strikes. Isn’t OP. Inner Agent 3: Is vulnerable when restocking Ink. Can’t roll or regenerate health. Mario Kart AI: Can’t rubberband, so is left behind easily. Mario Kart Wii: Spiny shell fire rate reduced. Geese Howard (Fatal Fury): Attacks don’t do a ridiculous amount of damage (this boss is widely considered unfair).

  • Rules broken Final Fantasy: all four characters attack the enemy at once Duck Hunt: shoot the dog and then throw bread crumbs at him Pokémon: use a bicycle inside a building Super Mario Brothers: go left at the beginning of the stage Harvest Moon (I believe): grown and maintain a pot farm Donkey Kong Country: walk on the minecart tracks Sonic: fly past Robotnik and destroy the animal capsules before he even recognizes

  • The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords: Green Link grabs the other Links’ swords and spin attacks, sending Sword Beams everywhere, killing every enemy in the room. F-Zero: Captain Falcon backflips out of his vehicle, punches Samurai Goroh out of his, and jumps back in the Blue Falcon as the Stingray explodes. Metroid: Samus grabs one of Kraid’s belly button spikes and shoots it into Kraid’s eye with her Arm Cannon. Radical Dreamers: “Magil, stop waiting for this stupid text and blast him with your magic already!” PAC-MAN: Pac brings a Mega Pallet and eats parts of the walls for quick shortcuts. Mega Man: Mega Man freezes (Robot Master) with Flash Stopper and fires at him with the Mega Buster at the same time. Game & Watch Manhole: Puts actual bridges over the gaps and rests in the middle. Space Invaders: A whole armada of ships comes to player ship’s aid and blows up all the aliens. “Huh, neat.”
