QAnon is an unfounded conspiracy theory that claims President Trump is secretly waging a war against elite Satan-worshipping paedophiles in the government. Originating in forum posts on 4chan in October 2017, QAnon spread false information about various social and political issues, including the Black community. Over a dozen 2020 U.S. House and Senate candidates have engaged with QAnon, with at least two of them being right-wing groups that believe former President Donald Trump was under assault by Satan worshipers.
The QAnon movement is rooted in fabricated claims made by an organization that believes America is run by a cabal of pedophiles and Satan-worshippers who run a global child sex-trafficking operation. President Trump, viewed as a hero by the movement, has stopped short of endorsing the conspiracy theory but has described QAnon activists as “… Adherents of a right-wing group that believes former President Donald Trump was under assault by Satan worshipers were among the mob that stormed the Capitol”.
Pizzagate and its progeny QAnon are two conspiracy theories with a growing number of believers worldwide. QAnon has entered mainstream discourse, with more than a dozen 2020 U.S. House and Senate candidates engaging with the collection of conspiracy theories known as QAnon.
