Is there romance in the last magician?
The book “New York City Fantasy” by Michael Berry is a captivating story about two physically attracted characters, Esta and Harte, who share passionate embraces and some scenes set in a brothel. The story is characterized by clever con schemes and a historical setting in the 1900s. However, the plot can be slow due to character building and the author’s tendency to kill off side characters. Despite this, the book is praised for its explanation of magic in NYC, its historical setting, and the characters’ interactions in the 1900s. The relationship between Esta and Harte grows, but the stubbornness of the characters and the insane plot twists at the end make it an enjoyable read.
How many books are in the Red Scrolls of Magic series?
The Eldest Curses is a trilogy of books, including The Red Scrolls of Magic, The Lost Book of the White, and The Black Volume of the Dead, that tell the story of Magnus and Alec’s adventures together. The books, co-written with Wesley Chu, are a romantic romp that provides readers with a closer look at these fan-favorite characters and their love story. The Lost Book of the White and The Red Scrolls of Magic are already available in bookstores, while The Black Volume of the Dead is not yet scheduled for publication.
Do I need to read red scrolls of magic?
Red Scrolls in The Shadowhunter Chronicles contains foreshadowing and set-up, providing a sense of cohesion to the world. It introduces concepts that are not introduced until later in the series, making them more accessible to chronological readers. The relationship development between Alec and Magnus is also crucial, as their first kiss was written in the first book and their big relationship affirming kiss in Glass was written from a different character’s POV.
Reading Red Scrolls in its chronological placement adds much-needed development to their characters and helps set up their character arcs for the second half of the series. However, Red Scrolls may spoil The Infernal Devices, so reading it immediately after Glass may not be beneficial depending on the order you read the books. Therefore, the revised optimal reading order for The Shadowhunter Chronicles is:
How old is Alec in The Red Scrolls of Magic?
Alec is officially 18 in CoG, making him an adult. He is almost a year older than Jace, but the date of the TBC story is unclear. The story ends with them kissing, which is a bit annoying as we never know what Magnus really got him. The text suggests that Alec’s birthday is likely in September, and the author and OI feel the same way, as they wanted to know but couldn’t find the details. The TBC story took place between CoA and CoG, and the author is annoyed by the lack of information about Alec’s true fate.
Do Clary and Alec kiss?
Alec initially exhibits a dislike for Clary; however, they subsequently develop a platonic friendship due to Alec’s homosexuality. It is therefore unlikely that they would be interested in kissing her.
What is the story of the Red Scrolls of Magic?
The Red Scrolls of Magic begins with Magnus taking Alec on an expensive vacation around Europe. However, the relaxing vacation is quickly sidetracked when Magnus is needed to track down and put an end to a cult called the Crimson Hand. A cult that Magnus started himself centuries ago. as a joke, and then forgot about. Literally forgot about (he has no memories of that period of his life). Along the way to breaking up the cult, Magnus and Alec make friends and enemies, but it’s almost always a hilariously good time when Magnus is involved.
I enjoyed the novel quite a bit but didn’t feel like I was as engaged with it as the other Shadowhunter books I’ve read. As much as I love Malec, I missed reading about other characters so I felt a bit bored during the first half of the novel, which only featured Magnus and Alec. It wasn’t until the second half that I really got into the story and that was in part due to the presence of more characters like Aline Penhallow and Helen Blackthorn, as well as a quickening in the pace of the plot. I loved that we got to see more of Aline and Helen, especially seeing how they met and I thought they really contributed to the book. I just kind of wish more had happened early on in the book because it felt really slow and threatened to put me to sleep.
I obviously loved reading more about Magnus and Alec in this book, especially since the book is set in the early stages of their relationship. But knowing what happens later in TMI kind of threw me off a little bit while I was reading this one. Nevertheless, I would never turn down a good romance, especially Malec so it was an enjoyable reading experience regardless.

Does the Red Scrolls of Magic spoil the infernal devices?
The author, a newcomer to the Shadowhunter world, has finished reading the first three books of The Mortal Instruments and was recommended to read The Red Scrolls of Magic next. However, upon reading the first few pages, a girl named Tessa appeared, which is a prequel to The Infernal Devices. The author is unsure if they should continue reading The Red Scrolls of Magic, as they don’t want any spoilers.

Looks like we are back in the world of Shadowhunters, and much sooner than I thought! Had the lovely opportunity to review an …
I started my adventure with Shadowhunters from TV series (which I know isn’t perfect but I absolutely adore nevertheless), so I came into the books already LOVING Alec as a character and knowing he is my beloved character from the very start (well, he and Magnus, really, I can’t chose which one I like more… but I definitely don’t like any other character more than them). And to be honest? I am NOT disappointed with Alec in books. I actually love him even more now, after reading all books he appears in (novellas included). That is /kind of/ the point? Him being a “moody b**tch”? He was shy, closeted, insecure, used to living in the shadows of others and not being noticed, bottling up his real emotions, angry at the whole world and lashing out because he was miserable. Like – it took ONE comment from Clary, girl he didn’t know and had no reason to trust, about him being afraid of killing demons, to make him rush head first to the fight with a Greater Demon, and almost get himself killed. The thing with him never killing a demon before is that… Alec isn’t really a killer. He is a protector. He will put his body between innocent people and the danger. He is an archer which allows him to fight from the distance, not because he is afraid he would get hurt, but because he can save more people this way. And in the span of all books and novellas we see him grow SO MUCH, partially thanks to Magnus and their love, into a grown up man with strong believes he is not afraid to voice, who is sure of himself and is a great father, husband and I am sure will be a wonderful political figure.
