The Griha Pravesh Puja is a traditional Hindu religious ceremony performed on the first entry into a new home, according to the Vastu Shashtra. It is performed in three forms: Apurva, Sampurva, and Vandandva. The main rituals include Ganesh Puja to remove obstacles, Navagraha Puja to appease the nine planets, Vastu Puja to harmonize the house’s energies, Havan to purify the surroundings, and feeding the Brahmins as a blessing.
The Puja begins on the first day of living in the new home with the first set of rituals and Homas, including Sudarshana Homa. On the second day, the Griha Pravesh ceremony is performed by two Purohits over two days. It is suggested that people who buy new homes worship holy gurus like Shirdi Saibaba and Guru Raghavendra Swamigal before the start of the ceremony.
The first step in the Grihapravesh Puja involves cleaning the house thoroughly to remove any negative energy. The Purohit performs this ceremony by chanting mantras to invoke the blessings of Vastu Shastra. The ceremony seeks the blessings of our beloved gods and goddesses, beginning with Lord Ganesha.
The Ganapathi Pooja is the first and most crucial step in the Gruhapravesam ceremony, seeking the blessings of Lord Ganesha. After the Pravesham milk boiling ceremony, various rituals are performed, including Ganesh Puja, Navagraha Puja, Vastu Puja, Havan, and feeding the Brahmins. Performing Ganapati Pooja, Navagraha Shanti, and Vastu Pooja are highly recommended for a successful Gruhapravesam ceremony.
