What Makes Conspiracy Websites Favor Russia?

Russia has been using tactics such as exacerbating existing divisive issues and creating fake accounts posing as Americans in its 2016 and 2020 election-meddling efforts. The Russia-Ukraine war is now being viewed by some Americans through the lens of conspiracy theories, according to misinformation researchers. The Kremlin-backed TV station is a key part of Russia’s never-ending disinformation war against the West, boosting conspiracy theories and crucially, promoting Vladimir Putin’s Russia. For two decades, journalists and officials, in concert with the Kremlin, have merrily spread disinformation. By making Russians participate in a vote whose outcome is a foregone conclusion, the apparatus of power aims to show that Putin’s autocracy rests on the acquiescence or active involvement of the West.

In Russia and the U.S., a Kremlin-backed propaganda effort seeks to build support for Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. A woman who was injured by Russian shelling became the subject of conspiracy theories and false claims online. The main one has been the bioweapons conspiracy theory, which has provided a way to talk about the war while focusing criticism on President Biden and the U.S. government instead of Mr. Putin and the Kremlin. Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Western conspiracy theorists and the Kremlin have each spread similar disinformation online.

  • The US confirned this in a Senate hearing. Then claimed they were abandoned USSR facilities they trying to eliminate w/ Ukranian govt since 2005. But didnt make sense that it would take 17 yrs to do this. So they changed story to they were trying to secure the facilities. This also doesnt make sense. If the US is worried Russia will take these facilities then they must contain stuff the Russians have had access to b4. If old USSR labs then Russia would already have the technology

  • While the US initially slammed information about its bio warfare labs in Ukraine as “fake”, on Tuesday, Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland admitted the existence of US-funded “biological research facilities” in the country. Moscow has spent years expressing concerns about the activities of US-funded biolabs in Ukraine and other post-Soviet republics, including Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, and Georgia

  • When Victoria Nuland testified to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, she answered the question of Republican Senator Marco Rubio “does Ukraine have chemical or biological weapons?” as follows: “Ukraine has … facilities where biological research is carried out. And now we are afraid that Russian troops may try to take control of them. So, together with the Ukrainians, we are trying to make sure that these research materials do not fall into the hands of the Russian forces if they come closer. ” “I will try to use profanity on the air to describe our reaction: jaws fell, let’s say. Under oath at the open hearings of the committee, Victoria Nuland confirmed that the Russian disinformation, which for days they called a lie, a conspiracy theory, a madness in which it is immoral to believe, is in fact entirely true,” the TV presenter commented on the situation.

  • I think the U. S is doing very little to focus more on their own weakness rather than their strength. And especially when stripping Russia of its favored nation stature is without a certain hint of irony, the U.S had bullied many people from other countries who feel they had lost everything from the war by oppressive countries in the Middle East and in other war torn countries around Africa. There are certain things we know very little about Ukraine and Russia. So we shouldn’t keep jumping to conclusions without looking at some facts about the crises with Ukraine and Russia, long before Putin . And of course we should see how well the U.S handles the home grown issues because Russia is always trying to find faults with our corrupt system brewing in the U.S and around their borders, like with our dismal relationship with Mexico, along with the drug war.

  • 1 BOUNTY, 1 MAN, 1 BUNKER. SEAL THE EXITS. 40 miles of Russian vehicles are sitting in a row. 80 years ago 100 American ships were sitting in a row at Pearl Harbour . $US1.7 Trillion was spent on the multiple failed F-35 fighter jets. That is enough to house ALL the US homeless 29 times over . 2021 a F-35 was downed due to failure. 2022 a F-35 failed to land on a carrier and fell off into the South China sea ……

  • One of the tasks of the United States and its allies is to create bioagents capable of selectively targeting different ethnic groups, especially Slavs, said Igor Kirilov, head of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological (RCB) Defense Forces of the Russian Armed Forces. He stated that the infection was planned to be brought to Russia through birds, insects or bats.

  • Come on, this is just poor reporting. While I have zero confidence in pretty much anything coming out of Russia these days, and can see no reason whatsoever to think the claims are true even on my most paranoid of days, quoting the US government saying it’s not true does not constitute debunking. Just now I also watched another article where you quoted Russian death toll estimates, conveniently leaving out that those numbers were estimated “with low confidence”. You can, and very much should, do better.

  • “Besides, as the vilest Writer has his Readers, so the greatest Liar has his Believers; and it often happens, that if a Lie be believ’d only for an Hour, it has done its Work, and there is no farther occasion for it. Falsehood flies, and the Truth comes limping after it; so that when Men come to be undeceiv’d, it is too late; the Jest is over, and the Tale has had its Effect…” — Jonathan Swift, The Examiner, 1710

  • I can tell by experience that Russia propaganda isn’t new. Its within there culture in the government. That and corruptions. I remember when I watched an lecture from an former finnish intelligence officer, whom was very bias his optionen. He said and I quote: “The Us imperialism is based on the oil, while Russian imperialism is based that someone threaten them” To feel safe, they wanted buffered zone. I’m finn, was little in the 80s and I always remember when Finland couldn’t even criticize against the Soviet Union. Not even say on the tv or news papers. in 1939, the Soviet Union blamed the finns that they bombardment by artilleri on their soil. Finland said this claim is false and they wanted an independent investigation from the League of Nation. The Soviets refused. So the 30th of november 1939, the Soviets invaded Finland. Modern historian said this was an false flag operation, just give them an incitament to invade. That’s Molotov cocktail came from the winter war, to mock Vjatjeslav Molotov whom was internal affairs within the Soviet Union. There is an finnish war song called “Njet Molotov”: “Njet Molotov, njet Molotov! You told more lies than Bobrikov himself”.

  • The West should starting focusing on refueling the economy after 2 years of financial effects from a coronavirus that originated at a market in China while dealing with Putin and his war. You can’t just focus on a list of sanctions from here to the moon against Russia. Anyone have a plan as to ‘how Russia will pay for some of the damages in Ukraine?’ Or how to refuel businesses/ countries budgets that have been affected by all of this. The financial world shouldn’t ‘stop’ or start driving downhill at full speed because of China or Russia. How much did the coronavirus cost? Now this? Get the economists to figure that out and maybe give that bill to China and Russia.

  • At least lots of people are better at fighting the propaganda war this time. The physical war, the think tanks ( in several countries ) should start thinking about national security in a much wider sense. Europe obviously has to do that ( the huge hole in the wall with non- Nato countries in Europe that lets Putin and his army walk straight in ). Now, it’s more about medical supplies, housing refugees from Ukraine while the military expertise ( from other countries ) has to help Ukraine as much as they can since NATO can’t be ‘directly involved’. A new refugee crisis in Europe and a country that is being destroyed day by day and Putin and Russia probably don’t even think they should pay for these damages. When Putin doesn’t know how much Europe doesn’t want war on European soil ( this time it’s due to extremely outdated Russian imperialistic ideology ) then Putin is definitely NOT intelligent ( in case anyone thinks Putin is smart ). All of Europe is thinking about national security for each country in addition to Ukraine. Then there is all the mess that will have to be cleaned up ( I say let’s all agree to give Russia the bill for the cleanup job ). Europe should find a smarter plan so we can stop a situation like this much faster in case Russia tries ‘it’s plan’ on another European country. Putin is hopefully not stupid enough to try military invasion of a member of NATO. If Putin tries that on another non-NATO European country ( except Belarus ) then Europe will help that country anyway, that’s what Putin and ‘his intelligence’ didn’t add into the equation or that Ukraine would fight back.

  • USA INVOLMENT IN BIOLOGICAL WEAPON PROGRAM IN UKRAINE 1991 – the US launches the Nunn-Lugar programme for the former Soviet countries to control/eliminate Soviet weapons of mass destruction including bioweapons. The Pentagon’s Defence Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) was named as the programme’s main executor. 1993 – the Ukraine-US Agreement on the Prevention of Proliferation of WMD is signed. 2005 – an additional protocol is signed to the agreement between the Ukrainian Health Ministry and the DTRA on the prevention of the proliferation of technologies, pathogens and know-how that can be used to develop bioweapons. This is the start of the transfer of the Ukrainian military biological potential into US specialists’ hands. 2000s – large US military-industrial companies are engaged in military biological activity in Ukraine. 2005-2014 – Black & Veatch Special Projects, a DTRA contractor, builds and upgrades 8 biolabs in Ukraine instead of eliminating military biological infrastructure, as was originally claimed. One of the facilities, a biolab in Odessa, has been financed since 2011 for the study of “pathogens that can be used in bioterrorism attacks.” 2007 – US DoD employee Nathan Wolfe founded Global Viral Forecasting Institute (subsequently – Global Viral), a biomedical company. The mission stated in the charter is non-commercial study of transborder infections, including in China. 2009 – Rosemont Seneca Partners is established by former US Secretary of State John Kerry’ stepson Christopher Heinz and incumbent US President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden.

  • In Sunan Abu Dawud no. 4298, from Abu Darda ‘explains, the Prophet SAW said: Muslims on the Day of Judgment “Indeed, at the time of the great war the base of the Muslim army was in the Ghuttah area, an area on the outskirts of Medina known as Damascus. One of the best cities in Syria.” but the condition is, ukraine (cannot side with the western bloc) later (Russia, Korea, Iran, China) will fight the western bloc

  • KAMELIA HARRAS GIVES INTERVIEW TO CNM REPORTER ON THE WAR IN UKRAINE: Reporter: Ms. Vice President, how has Russia managed to stay ahead of your administration in this war? Do you expect a Ukrainian defeat Please explain it to us in detail. Harras: Simply put, its like a cow jumping a fence. First da head, then dee feet and finaly dee tail. Reporter, with a perplexed look: I never looked at it that way. Very well put. Thank you.

  • OK, just as a hypothetical, why would the US operate bioweapon labs in Ukraine? Why does the US need bioweapon or chemical weapons now? We have a very capable conventional military capacity, we have a quite substantial nuclear military capacity. Why would we, of all the major powers in the world today, need chemical or biological weapons? We’re in the position of strength, certainly in regards to Russia. What would motivate the US to take the risk of diminishing our international standing by violating this treaty? Increasing our stockpile of tactical nuclear weapons would make a lot more sense, but we don’t have many tactical nuclear weapons anymore, unlike Russia. Admittedly, Russia is in a very different security situation than the US… like the US during most of the Cold War, they are much weaker in conventional forces now, so they now need those tactical nuclear weapons to counter US and NATO conventional superiority today. Just the opposite of the situation during most of the Cold War. The US and NATO are less likely to believe they need bioweapons or chemical weapons here. What’s more, if the US were to operate bioweapon or chemical weapons labs somewhere, why in the world would they pick Ukraine? Just to give the Russians a convenient excuse to invade Ukraine?

  • “Former military men who expressed a desire to defend the country during martial law are being released from places of imprisonment and pre-trial detention centers,” Prosecutor of the Prosecutor General’s Office Andrei Sinyuk said in a comment to the Hromadske TV website. According to him, this issue is being resolved at the highest level. “We are talking about a large number of people who are in custody and are already serving sentences throughout the country,” Sinyuk said.

  • The Budapest Memorandum did NOT “grant sovereignty” to Ukraine as Ukraine already had sovereignty from 1991. The creation of the Commonwealth of INDEPENDENT states was created by the INDEPENDENT states of Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine as equal partners in a co-operation agreement. If Ukraine was not independent, then Russia wasn’t either. The overarching administration, the USSR, had been dissolved by Mikhail Gorbachev. The most significant of the Budapest Memoranda was signed by representatives of Ukraine, Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan giving undertakings to respect each others borders (AS THEY THEN EXISTED) and as such, any lingering rumblings about Crimea were put to bed. With the signing of the Memorandum, the Russian state gave up all claims that may have been being made by Russian nationalist extremists based upon the 1954 transfer of Crimea to Ukraine being only an administrative expedient were at an end. The Memorandum also signed by Britain etc undertook to respect those borders. I think the British state gave up on territorial claims on any part of Russia in 1921 following the withdrawal from Murmansk. Other memoranda included a by-lateral one between Kazakhstan and China. The Kazakhs were only prepared to hand over the nuclear weapons that they held to Russia in return for an undertaking from China to respect the Kazakh borders. The Budapest Memoranda were organised by the USA in order to limit nuclear proliferation. It was bad enough that the USSR had them but three potential loose cannon (Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Belarus) presented an added danger in American eyes.
