Just watched this and your “connection between the 3 islands” articles and I gotta give you a standing ovation, your arguments are very compelling and use convincing evidence from the games themselves. I also personally came to the conclusion that South Island and West Side Island were once connected, but didn’t think the same about West Side Island and Angel Island because I never considered Mystic Ruins could have been part of West Side before. And we knew Angel Island was originally part of the location now known as the Mystic Ruins, so theorizing that Mystic Ruins is ON west side island was the final piece of the puzzle. I personally also think you can place Station Square on the SA2 map as you show at 0:16 inbetween where the Chao head and the Pumpkin head are on the map, that collection of blocks somewhat representing city buildings? I’m pretty sure that’s supposed to be Station Square. And considering there’s a highway connecting across a body of water between that part of the map and the city that City Escape takes place in, the argument that they constructed a rail way connecting Station Square to West Side Island also seems very logical. Perhaps the rail way connection was destroyed when Chaos flooded Station Square. The idea that South, West Side, and Angel Islands all used to be connected into one continent sized landmass is solid gold when it comes to Sonic Lore theorizing though. It was actually Sonic Forces that made me think South and West Side Islands used to be connected, because the landmass in Forces has Green Hill Zone, a Casino overrun Mystic Jungle, Metropolis, and Chemical Plant Zones all being upon the same landmass together.
Wanna know what I Think happened to Mystic Ruins and Angel island itself on why they were in ruins in the present day? My theory, is that Tikal’s last of the Echidna’s Died Out after her fathers abrupt Passing and I think that the Structures they build began to decay and fall apart for centuries like thousands of years before Humans existed… and I think the flashbacks take place sometime during the B.C. Era like Long before Christ was born…. Knuckles and his family were probably one of the Last ever Ones to survive in the island…. before they died…
When Sonic Forces came out I thought Mystic Jungle was the Mystic Ruins just because they share a word in their name and are also forest themed, which made me think it was on South Island. I also think The City is Spring Yard Zone and Metropolis is either a modified Starlight or Gigalpolis from the 8-bit games. I also thought the Eggman Fortress was a renovated Scrap Brain Zone. Finally I fully subscribe Sonic Loreposting’s theory that Sonic Advance’s Secret Base is the Final Egg/Heat Shelter.

I’ve always just assumed that the Mystic Ruins were just on the mainland, and when Angel Island came down it just reconnected to where it had lifted up from, but you’ve got some good evidence all around. There is one main thing that still keeps me hesitant to accept this idea of yours into my headcanon – the train! There’s a quick train ride to and from Station Square, which has zero implication of being on an island…right?
A few problems with the theory 1:21 tails has been shown to have multiple workshops and residences like his house in Sonic battle or Tails Adventure. So him having a house near the mystic ruins is not enough evidence. especially since he lived on Westside in the classics and the modern era is after that, potentially years afterward. 2:24 I dont believe the mystic cave, hidden palace or Mystic Ruins are connected as the architecture isnt similar, as well as the fact that in TailsTube1 tails explains that Animal people live on Islands and uses westside as an example He uses station square as an example for the Human living space and it shares the same landmass as the mystic ruins. So it would not be able to take place on Westside 4:26 like you said its a reach. especially since this series is known for reusing assets and level themes like a casino, grassy area, metallic flying death spaceship, etc 4:54 the adventure cutscene has since been retconned by the Origins cutscene as the most recent info is what takes priority. Bavk in the day it is likely that they just reused the mystic jungle assets due to budget constraints for the flashback while we know the Angel island was connected to mystic ruins and the larger landmass i think its highly unlikely that it is Westside island as per the reasons I layed out before.
My Dad loved this theme. I used to play this game as a kid and he’d watch and all the way until he died, he still listened to this song. He passed 12/17/20, and when I looked in his youtube searches this was the last thing he searched for on Youtube. This song right here gives me the most nostalgia out of the whole soundtrack because of how much my younger self was stuck in Mystic Ruins. I´m from Mexico City and as many of you may know, it´s built on top of the ancient Tenochtitlán, and there are many ruins scattered around some places. Dang man this took me back to much simpler times man. I remember leaving the game on pause cause my mom would call me to go do something or help her with something.
