Which High School’S Mascot Is A Poet?

Sofia Kamal, a student poet from Rancho Solano Preparatory School in Phoenix, was chosen as the student poet for the Southwest. She wrote “Gas Station” where she looks to the moon and finds it “lobed with”. Five high school students from Florida to Utah have been named National Student Poets, a program founded more than a century ago. The women’s varsity sports offered are badminton, basketball, soccer, softball, and volleyball. The four varsity teams that are coed are cross country, swimming, and indoor.

The mascots of Sidney Lanier High School, which is named after famous Southern poet Sidney Lanier, embody strength and agility. Panthers are sleek and powerful, while Wildcats symbolize independence and agility. Sidney Lanier High School has a rich history, having played a significant role in football games that decide state championships. The school’s name is a natural extension of its namesake, poet Sidney Lanier, who lived in Montgomery.

Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, a historically black public secondary school located in Washington, D.C., was America’s first public high school. Each of the poets will represent different parts of the country. Robert Gao of University Laboratory High School in Champaign, Illinois, will represent Whittier College.

As the representative of an entire college’s athletic program, a mascot should be intimidating and represent the entire college’s athletic program. Renowned poet Sidney Lanier has two lakes and several schools named after him, but only Lanier High’s student athletes are true Poets in motion.
