Cruising occurs between crawling and walking, where the child pulls themselves up onto everything and starts sliding with their hands and feet. It’s best to go barefoot at this stage, as shoes might hinder their development if not the right fit. There’s no need to rush to wear shoes, as children will develop at their own pace. Myth 4: Non-breathable waterproof shoes are the best option for new walkers. These shoes can help keep feet dry but can also make them sweaty and uncomfortable. A child’s feet sweat up to three times more than an adult’s, so it’s crucial to choose a breathable and comfortable shoe. Additionally, waterproof shoes may not be as flexible, making it difficult for babies to balance and walk correctly.
There is no one “perfect” shoe for all babies, as each child has unique needs and preferences. It’s essential to choose shoes that cater to their individual needs and preferences to ensure a comfortable and safe journey for new walkers.

Early shoes may not help your baby learn to walk faster or better, as hard, inflexible soles restrict natural foot movement. Currently, barefoot is best for foot development, and socks or booties with non-skid soles are suitable for chilly toes. When your baby starts walking, choose lightweight, flexible shoes that fit well, have non-skid soles, and are lightweight and flexible.
📹 Episode 21: Handling Camera Gear On Dive Boats
You spent a ton of money on your camera rig for filming underwater. You don’t want your camera destroyed on the boat on the …
This was so helpful! Great tips for my first liveaboard to the Bahamas in Feb. I love the idea of the insulated bag, along with upfront communication with the crew re: how to handle the rig upon entry and exit from the water. Makes so much sense. 🤙 Thanks James and Matthias! Another great collaboration.
Excellent and common-sense look at how different boat operations handle camera gear. LOVE the South Africa RIB center table with bungee security! We just got back from a 10 day liveaboard in the Philippines and their RIB layout had the camera gear all stowed forward but this would have made the gear vulnerable if seas were really rough (though they were glass-smooth). The RIB operation did rely on the boat crew to properly and carefully handle our camera gear (which they did). One thing I always do on the larger 1 and 2-day boats here in CA is use my padded cooler partly filled with water and stowed forward. This gets my rig out of the boat’s rinse tank after first rinsing and keeps it out of the way of all the dive activities aft. I finally put a lanyard on the rig that is ORANGE and obviously a place to grab.
