Maybe windless magic is something you learn from natsais side quest or even main quest once you meet the divination professor. It is ancient magic after all I’m sure we’d have some kind of ability to tap into it. Or if it is like a side quest unlock, it’s something you can switch on and off but can only do certain spells
It’s not a matter of not respecting wands, but not having access to them. Wands is an European invention, they weren’t commonplace in Africa. And if you can’t use wands, you make do. I see it like this: if you have legs, being able to walk on your hands is impressive. If, however, you were born without legs and hence relied solely on your arms and hands to get around and do things, then getting around on your hands is suddenly mundane. Wandless magic is considered the mark of a powerful magic because it is a rarity in wizarding Britain and not many can do it. In Africa, wandless magic is just life.
The majority of magical folklore I have found from the area of Africa where Natsai comes from has to do with mermaids, and the impudulu (lightning bird). I do think she’ll be able to teach us some wandless skills, and she’ll also be the best companion for any lake quests. Poppy is who I would want to take into the forest with me. Sebastian is the dark path companion.
If there’s any chance we’ll learn wandless magic at all, I wonder whether it will only be with a few spells. Maybe it could be an optional final upgrade to 2-3 spells which we choose from a limited number of options. My guess though is that it’s too advanced for a fifth year at Hogwarts. There more than likely will be some wandless magic you will use, but the wand will have to be the main weapon as jk Rowling did base a lot of her ideas from the arthurian legend and imbuning an object with power was so that you could website your power through that object/wand more stable, so the wand will be the main use of power to website through, but I do see a couple spells being able to be done with the other hand as maybe for combat use.
Alex think about this: The way they could do it without taking away the wand- In some games they’re are always a certain section (level) in the game story mode where you are depowered for a short amount of time Ex: towards the end of oh kingdom hearts 1 and recoed soars keyblade gets taken away and you have to depend on beast to take out the enemies until you get your keyblade back after you found Donald and goofy Ex 2 : towards the end of ff 15 noctius loses his powers and he has to use the ring to fight until a certain point. now I can see her teaching us hand magic in a cutscene but we can only do one spell or a couple since it’s so hard to do then it will come a time when you’re wand will get taken away or stolen or broken and you have to pregress until you can get your wand back. So basically we will only use hand magic in a short section of the game and eventually return to wand combat
I’ve been thinking about this topic since I knew there would be an African student in the game, and I was hoping it would be a skill that she could teach us. I do expect her to have a wand, as it would be required at Hogwarts, but I think it would take a lot away from her character, if she isn’t able to cast without it. It would pretty much relegate her to the status of just another “diversity hire.” One of the main complaints of those against diversity of characters is that they are just there to check a box, and offer little to the experience. For the devs to go through all of the trouble of adding a character with such possibilities for a rich back story, only to turn around and leave it out, would be a huge mistake. It lets down the character, the game, and ultimately the players. I know that Natsai having the ability doesn’t necessarily mean she can teach it to us, but she should be able to do it. I also have reason to believe that the other companions will have special skills to teach, based on what I think their wands will be. I have read up on all wands, and certain ones often find themselves in the hands of witches and wizards with particular skills. I didn’t just make my predictions randomly, but based on a lot of background reading about name meanings, folklore, and Wizarding World lore.
I’m a big proponent of sticking to lore, and the little I’ve heard about this school and this companion, I’m not a huge fan. I wouldn’t mind so much if she knew how to do wandless magic, but I don’t think it’s something that should be able to be learned or put in to the game. But, if they are expanding on the lore, I suppose it could make sense, like you said, that the kids in this region were just raised and taught to do wandless magic. That way they wouldn’t be inherently powerful or extremely skilled, but instead they could just do it since that’s all they’ve known. Hope that all makes sense lol
I believe each companion will have a unique skill to offer. I have come up with these wand woods, cores, and special skills based on some of my research, and some educated guessing. Natsai will likely have an acacia wand, with a lightning bird feather core. The lightning bird is an African bird similar to the phoenix and the thunderbird, and often nest in acacia trees. She will be most adept at wandless magic. Sebastian’s wand will probably be willow, with dragon heartstring. His specialty will be nonverbal spells. Poppy’s wand may be apple wood, with unicorn hair. She will likely have a gift for conversing with some magical beings in their native languages. Though they haven’t named the Ravenclaw companion, I have applied my system to guess what the wand, core, and skill might be. My guesses are silver lime wood, with thestral hair core. The special skills associated with silver lime are that those who are chosen by that wood are often seers, and are often skilled in legilimency. They may also add occlimency.
