How Can Spells In Pillars Of Eternity Be Learned?

In Pillars of Eternity, spells are learned through various methods, including leveling up, reading looted enemy grimoires, and paying a fee. To learn spells from grimoires, players must select them at level up and pay the cost (e.g., 100 copper for level 1 spell, 200 copper for level 2) to learn them. Once learned, they can place the spell into any Grimoire they wish.

Wizards can also acquire more Grimoires by looting them and placing them in their inventory. They can learn more spells outside of leveling up by looting Grimoires and placing them in their inventory. The process is similar to how one would use one-shot spells or hoard unique ones until they reach a certain level.

In the RPG game, players can learn spells, attributes, talents, and grimoires, as well as learn about different types of spells like druid, priest, and wizard spells. However, changing spells in grimoires is no longer possible. Instead, players can pick spells they know (without a Grimoire) or other abilities at level up and then learn them from each other.

Spell cast total is tied to the character, not the book, so players cannot cast multiple level 1 spells and swap books for more level 1 casts. If a spell is found in an enemy’s grimoire, Wizards can choose to learn it for the cost (in copper pieces) required to research it.

Wizards are spellcasters, but unlike priests and wizards, they can permanently learn unique spells from their collected Grimoires. These unique spells will be added to the Wizard ability tree.

  • Wow. Just an hour old and already some likes and comments, for such a comparably old game. I guess people are learning about its existence because of BG3. Great. Pillars of Eternity is really great, as is its sequel. Has a few pacing issues, but if you like exploring the world and its lore, and good stories, this is just the right game.

  • It seems like you really like damaging spells which is fine but the true power of the Druid kit is in its control. Overlooking spells like Tanglefoot, Calling the World’s Maw and Venombloom is just criminal. Additionally the Druid kit works very well when certain abilities are used in tandem. The storm spells are unequivocally the strongest thing they have (Maybe Plague of Insect spam ties with it) and stacking Reflex debuffs makes it even better. Opening a fight with Tanglefoot into a Storm dramitically increases the odds of those stuns to hit. Also spells like Overwhelming Wave while hard to use are incredibly strong as it stuns a huge area for a long time. Venombloom does insane Raw damage over time, inflicts two debuffs and can be combo’d with Plague of Insects for disgusting damage over time. Form of the Delemgan is also an insane buff that not only gives tons of Damage Resistances but also condition immunities and flat stats
