How Magic Tricks With Rapid Changes Operate?

Quick change artistry is a performance style where a performer, often a magician, changes from one outfit to another in mere seconds. The act involves wearing different clothes on top of each other and ripping them off quickly. The entire body is usually covered by a cloth or something else for a short moment, allowing the actor to remove one of the costumes unseen. This trick has been performed by “Ellie and Jeki” on Britain’s Got Talent, who have done this routine hundreds, if not thousands of times.

The most common way to pull off quick change magic tricks is to put on multiple costumes at the same time. Costume Designer and Shop Manager Melanie Green explores the magic of theater costume quick changes, highlighting tips and tricks for making such an illusion. Léa Kyle, a French magician specializing in quick change, shares her adaptation of her quick change act and the process it takes to complete.

  • She’s fantastic. I have done magic for years and I think her stage presence is phenomenal. Her timing is great and movement are very fluid. It is obvious that she has spent many hours practicing these stunts to get them so seamless. I think she’s great and I hope she wins. I really think that the singing janitor has an incredible voice and all, but I just get tired of singers winning all the time because we already have a I,lion singing contests on. I’d like to see something different for a change.

  • in the actual performance, I observed a slight glitch which is inadvertently shown in your article at 4.35 when a portion of yellow colour dressed is revealed unintentionally under the falling grey dress on right side of her leg. So I thought someway new dress is hiding previous but wasn’t aware about mechanism. Thank you for this article. 🙂

  • I felt she was wearing all those dresses, and this explains with slow motion how it works. The black sheet retracting I guessed before this article, but you prove it outright. Thank you for explaining how they made this work I am betting her husband, Arkadio José Jiménez Rodríguez, also a magician/illusionist, is controlling those motors you identified behind the scenes as they are an act on YouTube right now where they set a quick-change record recorded online. I am subscribing as your revelations are impressive, thank you.

  • Wow 🤩 very interesting lol 😂 still I love the way she does it and if you ask me she does damn great job!!!! With experience she will get better and better at hiding those more obvious transitions ❤ I mean yes I did notice a couple of these same things that’s being discussed like positioning of her hands and body etc but I have keen sense for detail so I can’t help it but nonetheless she’s AMAZING 🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉 AND I ENJOY perusal HER PERFORM VERY MUCH SO!!!!!! ❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉🎉❤ Good Luck with your career Solange ❤😊❤😊❤😊❤

  • The first time I saw a “quick change” act, several years ago, it seemed special, even though it was obvious that all the outfits were worn from the start, and one after the other was replaced as the outermost outfit, as the next one was unfurled by the “thread pull”. Nowadays, it’s more about judging the execution of something that is no longer mystifying. It’s old hat by now, like sawing a person in half. But we can still appreciate the entertainment value; it’s just not “magic”.

  • I put a comment on an AGT post about the person who won saying I’m upset that she didn’t win and a couple of people said this is easy to do and to watch the reveal. And I did, and I’m seeing some of these comments, and like other people, it’s not changing my mind how I feel about her. She’s still a great performer, and it’s not obvious while you’re perusal her

  • don’t even really need slo-mo, just a keen eye for detail and timing. The one she mistimed the most was the black and printed dress.. the shade in the bag with the printed design scrolled up faster than she could pull her dress own, which gave a really strange appearance that there were two dresses in play.. To that degree, are we even sure the white dress in the frame was actually a dress and not just another canvas of artwork like the dress in the bag?

  • It all began with the Masked Magician on Fox TV, revealing long-held magic secrets for classic illusions. Now, what was controversial at that time… has become business as usual on YouTube. Fortunately…(or perhaps unfortunately), we live in an age where the internet and social media make it virtually impossible to keep anything a secret. So one has to appreciate the “OMG!” moments as they happen… before the reveal is posted. And I don’t agree that revealing secrets ruins a performer’s career… though it does keep them on their toes, and ‘forced’ to create new magic effects.

  • Witchcraft, sorcery, and the occult are real, which means the spiritual realm is real, which means God is real. Who is the True God? The Only God that has the power and authority to defeat witchcraftJesus Christ is the only way to everlasting life. He loves you, and He is with you no matter what. He will never abandon nor forsake you.

  • Well, all this is fine. But what about the two guys who will be standing always there at the back stage parallel to the performers. They can clearly see them right? Even though she was covering her front to make it invisible to the audience, these two can still see her as they are standing beside her. Isn’t it?
