Zodiac signs, originally determined by the constellation the Sun was in on the day of birth, are based on the mathematical division of the year. There are 12 zodiac signs, each with its own element (fire, earth, water, or air), modality (cardinal, fixed, or mutable), polarity (yin or yang), symbol, archetype, house, and ruling. Each planet interacts with the distinct energy of its zodiac sign or birth sign to form the framework of your personality.
The “big three” are the key traits of each zodiac sign, which can be interpreted by an expert astrologer. Each zodiac sign is named after a constellation the sun annually moved through while crossing the sky. Zodiac history is primarily derived from mathematician and astronomer Ptolemy’s Tetrabiblos, published around 1,800 years ago.
The water sign is known for being determined, passionate, and competitive, while those born under Scorpio are considered mysterious and intense. The date of birth determines your sign, but these dates were decided in ancient times.
In summary, astrology is determined by the movement of Earth through space and the positions of astronomical objects in the sky. Zodiac signs, derived from the constellations along the sun’s path, track the orbit and wobble of Earth and remind us of its position. To find your element, first identify your zodiac sign based on your birth date and associate it with its corresponding element.

How is your zodiac sign chosen?
The Babylonians created 12 astrological signs, which were later incorporated into the Western zodiac. The ancient Greeks named these signs after constellations and linked them to specific dates based on their alignment with the sun’s orbit. The term “zodiac” originates from the Greek phrase “zōdiakos kyklos”, meaning “circle of animals”. Despite the Greeks’ contributions, horoscopes were not prevalent in ancient Greece.
Instead, the focus was on using the stars to connect with the gods through divination. Over time, Babylonian astrology merged with Greek divination practices, leading to the development of personalized horoscopes.
Who decides zodiac signs?
The star sign is determined by the position of the Sun in a particular constellation at birth. As Earth moves around the Sun, each Zodiacal constellation is hidden behind it. The zodiac, which stretches 8-9 degrees either side of the ecliptic, is the region where the Sun, Moon, and planets are found (except for Pluto). The narrow band of the zodiac, marked by blue lines, stretches 9 degrees either side of the ecliptic. There are 13 Zodiacal Constellations through which the ecliptic passes, including the Sun, Moon, and planets.
How were the 12 zodiacs chosen?
The twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac were selected through a process of elimination to serve as a means of measuring time. Only twelve competitors were permitted to cross the rapid river current and reach the shore finish line.
Is there any science behind astrology?
Astrology is a belief system that suggests a connection between astronomical phenomena and human events or personality descriptions. However, it has been criticized by the scientific community for lacking explanatory power and scientific testing has found no evidence to support its premises or effects. The most famous test, led by Shawn Carlson, concluded that natal astrology performed no better than chance. Astrology has not demonstrated its effectiveness in controlled studies and has no scientific validity, making it regarded as pseudoscience.
There is no proposed mechanism by which stars and planets’ positions and motions could affect people and events on Earth in the way astrologers claim, which contradicts well-understood aspects of biology and physics. Modern scientific inquiry into astrology focuses on the correlation between astrological traditions and the influence of seasonal birth in humans.
Who invented zodiac signs and why?
The invention of the zodiac by the Babylonians 2500 years ago involved dividing the sky into twelve areas, each assigned a figure, name, and specific meaning. This led to the creation of the zodiac with its twelve signs, such as Aries, Gemini, Virgo, or Leo. The Babylonian astral scientists created a body of knowledge that allowed them to assign meanings and contexts based on their calculations of planets’ positions in the zodiac at specific times.
How are zodiac signs decided?
The Babylonian zodiac system, which was divided into 12 astrological signs, is still used today. The ancient Greeks called the zone zōdiakos kyklos, “circle of animals”, or ta zōdia, “the little animals”, as the constellations through which the ecliptic passes represent animals. The Chinese zodiac system also involves a cycle of animals, with each symbol representing one year in a repeating cycle of 12 years.
The precession of the equinoxes has caused the constellations to shift eastward, causing the dates of the zodiac signs to no longer correspond to the astronomical constellations in which the Sun actually appears. The Sun does not spend one month in each constellation, and even passes through one constellation not considered a member of the zodiac.
Despite astrology not being supported by science, the belief that one’s personality is determined by the zodiac sign at birth is still widespread. A 2022 poll showed that 27% of Americans believe in astrology, with 37% among those under age 30.
Why do people actually believe in astrology?
Astrology is a popular coping mechanism for people experiencing life’s complexity. It helps people make sense of their lives and provides comfort during challenging times. Interest in astrology has been increasing during tumultuous times, such as the Great Depression and the coronavirus pandemic. This is due to the lack of meaning maps provided by traditional institutions and the welcoming nature of astrology, unlike other institutions that have failed to do so. Astrology has become a tool for comfort and understanding during challenging times.
Who created the 12 zodiac signs?
The zodiac, a system of stars, originated in Babylonian astronomy during the first half of the 1st millennium BC. It was based on stars from earlier Babylonian star catalogues, such as the MUL. APIN catalogue, which was compiled around 1000 BC. Some constellations can be traced back to Bronze Age sources, such as Gemini “The Twins” and Cancer “The Crab”. Around the end of the fifth century BC, Babylonian astronomers divided the ecliptic into 12 equal “signs”, each containing 30° of celestial longitude, creating the first known celestial coordinate system.
The zodiac was introduced between 409 and 398 BC, during Persian rule, and probably within a few years of 401 BC. Babylonian astronomers fixed the zodiac in relation to stars, placing the beginning of Cancer at the “Rear Twin Star” (β Geminorum) and the beginning of Aquarius at the “Rear Star of the Goat-Fish” (δ Capricorni). The time of year the Sun is in a given constellation has changed since Babylonian times due to the precession of the equinoxes.
How true is astrology?
Astrology, a long-standing scientific field, has been criticized for lacking clear evidence that stars and planets affect us. Astrology relies on stories and ideas that are difficult to prove with science, as it relies on guessing about patterns in the sky rather than conducting experiments. Additionally, astrology’s workings are based on old ideas about the universe, which have evolved over time. This has led to some astrologers’ predictions not aligning with current knowledge.
For example, the zodiac sign may not be accurate due to precession, which has caused stars to move since the first invention of astrology. Furthermore, astrology lacks a clear explanation for how stars and planets could affect us, with some astrologers suggesting it is due to the stars, but scientists argue these theories are too weak to have a significant impact on us.
Why are zodiac signs so accurate?
The Barnum Effect is a psychological phenomenon that suggests that people tend to believe in generalized personality descriptions as accurate descriptions of themselves. This is due to our preference for positive statements, particularly those that reference desirable future events. This tendency is also reflected in the Pollyanna Principle, which suggests that people remember pleasant events more accurately than negative ones. Cold reading, a practice where practitioners base their guesses without prior knowledge, also uses the Barnum Effect.
These statements are vague and inclusive, making them highly accepted by the majority. Spotify and Netflix also use the Barnum effect to manage their user experience by customizing information and presenting it in the way customers want. I’ve seen in another article (“Astrology vs. Astronomy – The unequal siblings”) that Astrology uses symmetrical celestial sectors of 30° and that is why astrologers say we already live in the “Age of Aquarius” but in reality the vernal equinox is still in the constellation of Pisces because the real constellations of the zodiac are quite different in size along the ecliptic… for example virgo is 43° along the ecliptic while Scorpio is only 11°.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life. … For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. John 8:44-47 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me. Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me? He who is of God hears God’s words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God.” Ephesians 6:12-13 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Psalm 14:1 14 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. my question is why was each stone and crystal picked to represent the planets rotation? would the real knowledge of what the planets are actually made of, be a better representation of the planets and would be a better way to draw the powers from each planets. And, who decided what planet makes you feel what way? I hope a scientist do studies on this soon.
I was looking for the mythical legends of the star signs. Age of Aquarius; Future humans will reconcile their “spiritual” intuition circuit with their “logic” circuit, and start awakening a new circuit. There will probably be many wars as “technocracy” (a.k.a fascism backed by selectively chosen science) rises and ultimately falls.
The science based on assumption … Ecliptic is not real it is just a perspective of an observer on earth or we can say a trajectory of sun based on our observations but is Sun really moving … Ofc not it is we on earth at different point on earth while the earth orbiting the sun so that’s why Sun seems like moving around a path k/a ecliptic and this zodiac is an area formed by subtending angle of 30° at earth . Total 12 zodiac i.e. 12*30°= 360° which is the angular distance of this apparent trajectory called ecliptic… .. Now if solar system is heliocentric than how sun is moving ? and if we assume solar system as geocentric thn also how the character of a person is decided by sun sign? .. I mean I have seen people changing characteristics and emotions according to the prevailing circumstances 😂😂😂😂 .. See this simple statement is even destructive for the whole sham concept of astrology 😂… Fire fire 🔥
dont use cafe astrology, astrologers warn this to people who want to learn about their birth chart because it can often be inaccurate as a personal recommendation, use astrotheme also a quick and easy run down of the planets and what they mean in your chart: sun represents your ego or the personality you put for the world the moon: your emotions and inner self mercury: your thoughts, how you communicate, and how you learn (in school) venus: your love language and what you appreciate mars: your passions and what motivates you jupiter: your luck saturn: your lessons in this lifetime neptune: your imagination, dreams, spirituality uranus: your rebellious nature and innovation you can provide to the world pluto: your darker self and where you will meet the most challenges also as a lil extra something: your rising/ascendant tells you now people perceive you when they first meet you and the houses tell you how you express yourself in certain aspects of life so if you’ve got your sun in the 4th house in cancer you may have goals of having a loving family of your own one day or say jupiter is in your first house then you will be lucky in gaining recognition in a job that allows you to be yourself hope my notes help somebody

Isaiah 47: 13-14 You are wearied with your many counsels; let them stand forth and save you, those who divide the heavens, who gaze at the stars, who at the new moons make known what shall come upon you. Behold, they are like stubble; the fire consumes them; they cannot deliver themselves from the power of the flame. No coal for warming oneself is this, no fire to sit before! 👆🏾This is what the word of God says about Astrology. While recognizing the validity of celestial observation, the Lord cautions against ascribing to demonic forces or inherent any power that operates independently of God’s direction. God created the stars and the celestial bodies (Genesis 1:14-19), which do not exist in themselves. The sun, the moon, and stars all submit to the command of the Heavenly Father. “And I will show wonders in the heavens above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke; the sun shall be turned to darkness and the moon to blood, before the day of the Lord come” Acts 2:19-20).
I’m wondering why western astrology uses then the tropical zodiac instead of the sidereal (like you showed in the article). The precession caused meanwhile big differences between the tropical and sidereal zodiac. And I understand that the tropical zodiac orientates on the spring point, but for me is questionable though why then to speak about zodiac signs instead of e.g sth which has to do with the seasons, some extra symbols, instead of just acting like the charactaristica of the star konstellations equal with the seasons.
